AirHelp printing: can RH redirect user print requests to PDF/.doc versions? Or can the print menu be disabled perhaps?

Hello. I am looking for a way to either: remove the 'Print' menu option in an AirHelp app... or if that is not possible, some way to point that menus options to print PDF or perhaps .doc versions of my content (as the quality of printing from AirHelp is atrocious at best)? Essentially I seek any way to improve upon my customers' experience when and if they migrate to that pesky print button. Unfortunately however, I have yet to find anything. Is there a way to do one or both of these tasks, or if not... perhaps there is another way to improve the quality of printing from AirHelp (or remove the option entirely)? Any advice would be most appreciated, thank you!

I'm using RoboHelp 11 to generate Adobe AIR browser-based help with content categories included. The output looks great when I open it from the local SSL directory; however, once I transfer the files (via FTP) to the server on which my website is hosted, the browser-based help looks VERY bad. I'm not quite sure what's going on. It could be something very simple that I'm overlooking. I created my website using Adobe Muse and it's hosted through Adobe Business Catalyst so I'm not sure why my Help files aren't displayed properly. Here's a link to the file on my website: index

Behavior for updating locally-installed AirHelp

I'm generating my help file using RH 9 Air Help (locally-installed) and trying to wrap my head around the behavior of when there's an updated version of help. When the user initially downloads the help to their desktop and when the help is opened each time thereafter, does RoboHelp point to the server (location of help files) each time the user opens the help from their desktop, or are the help files downloaded to the user's desktop? (The latter doesn't seem right if I can auto-update the help contents for locally-installed help.) And if there's an update to the help file, the user is notified of the update, correct? I've worked with RoboHelp (mainly WebHelp) for several years and love the look/feel of AirHelp and its capabilities. I'm just stumped on this one area--one which I need to be ready to answer when I speak with our developers tomorrow. Please help!

RoboHelp's air installers no longer install with AIR 4.0 update?

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

After updating to AIR 4.0.0.1390, our RH air help installers no longer work. This includes .air help from 2 - 3 years ago, which have installed fine all these years, all the way up to a recent .air file we created for an upcoming release. This problem occurs on both Mac and Win, with the US version of AIR and the Chinese version of AIR, and it's a critical problem for us. Now when you double-click the .air file to install the help, you get this message:

"Sorry, an error has occurred. The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author."

Well, the application author is us. But this isn't a problem that we can fix, because it happened with the AIR 4.0 update.

Version 3.8 of AIR works fine. Version 3.9 broke our context-sensitive help on the Mac (bug 3648177, filed in Oct, not that it did us any good). Now version 4.0 has broken our air help completely. We are transitioning to HTML5 help but not quickly enough, it seems.

Can anyone confirm that the same thing happens?

Hello All,

My help topics were created using RH8, and am looking into other web base help solution due to the large amount of files that Web Help currently outputs. For example, Adobe Air in RH8 has the following Output Types:

Adobe Air Application,
Browser based help,
Air Application AND Browser based help, and
Help Content.

My ultimate goal is simply to have a compact output file (e.g., like a CHM file) so my developer can incorporate into his workflow solution (SharePoint 2010) to automatically deploy my web help to not just the central admin server but also all sub-servers. The initial approach of incorporating the help files (currently using RH WebHelp) into the install package did not address that scenario. Unfortunately, for him, he cannot dynamically include all the files into the solution; they must be included one-by-one, which is pain and will cause issues if new files are added later on. Hence, my inquiry to find another web help platform output to reduce the number of files needed to be included in the solution.

In closing, what do you recommend out of Adobe Air web help solution?

AIRHelp stand-alone application takes a while to launch

Hello,

An AIRHelp stand-alone application with about 50 topics is taking about 20 seconds to launch and sometimes the navigation from one topic to another is delayed. I removed videos and external links and it runs faster and there are no broken links in the RoboHelp files; however, this sped the output application a bit, but it is still slow. Does anyone have any suggestions on how this can be made faster? Are there any formatting issues that would slow an AIRHelp application down when generated?

AirHelp formatting

I have a published WebHelp site being hosted on SharePoint on the company intranet. The goal is to publish a stand-alone version of the same project as an AirHelp application that can be easily accessed by having it pinned to the Windows 7 taskbar. However, when the AirHelp App was published all of the topics lost their indentation at the left, such that they appeared as though the text started at the boundary separating the TOC from the actual topics. In other words, there was no space buffer between the boundary and the text. I consulted the Help Desk but they informed me that this was the difference in generated output. The alternative was to create a duplicate project and re-format it so that the left margin was indented and looked appropriate in AirHelp. I did that and it looks fine, but this raises a dilemma. The help system is evolving, and so this would add to the amount of work if I had two duplicate projects that had to be updated each time a topic was added, modified, or deleted. Is there a way around this so that I can use one project? I am using RoboHelp 10.

Linked PDFs do not open in AIR help window

I am creating a help system in RoboHelp 10 and outputting it as AIR help. The help topics include links to several PDF documents, which are stored locally (they are not on a server or Web site). When I click any of the links in the AIR help window, however, the window goes blank; the content from the PDF does not appear. No other windows open, either. How can I get the content from the linked PDFs to appear in the AIR help window? Thanks!

Default font in AIRHelp's left-hand nav pane?

This may seem like a strange question, but does anyone know the name of the default font that is used in the left-hand navigation pane of the AIRHelp window? I'm talking about the AIRHelp window that you install on the user's PC, not the browser help. Any ideas? I'd like to match it and can't figure out which font it is.

Update Adobe AIR help content without necessity of installation for users???

Hello there,

I want to make our manuals available as Adobe AIR help applications. Unfortunately for our users it is not possible to regularly install these applications. Therefore I decided to generate a help viewer as AIR file and help content as RHA file ("help content only" ssl option). So admins only once have to install an initial AIR file. Afterwards users are able to replace help content to update help files.

I proceeded in a similar way as described here:

In principle this is a good solution - but here is my problem:

Help content itself already consists of different projects (merged projects). Merged projects unfortunately cannot be generated with "help content only" ssl option.

Anyone has got an idea how to satisfy all my conditions:

- Customers only once have to install an AIR file

- Afterwards help content can be updated by replacing files (without installation)

- Help content itself contains merged projects .

Generate different outputs (RHA files) for the merged projects is not a possibility. The merged projects with regard to content belong to ONE single manual - I'm not talking about different manuals. So users should be able to search the whole manual and so on ...).

Air Appears corrupt, cannot find Application descriptor

I have had Air installed for at least a year. I was updating a separate program and something went awry with the update. All of a sudden most of my 32bit programs would not work and had to be reinstalled.

When I tried programs that work with Air, I get the cannot find the Application Descriptor error. The programs I use are Less Parser, Crunch(another less parser), and Tweetdeck.

I cannot uninstall Air with Windows, I cannot update it, and as you see below I cannot install Air applications. I uninstalled Crunch and tried to re-install it. I am hoping there is a way through this.

Air Help topic navigation links broken

I've logged this as a bug, but was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem.

When generating the "Air Help and Browser Based Help" output format (and uploading the browser files to the web server and installing the AirHelp application), the navigation links that appear above the help window and below the search bar/navigation buttons are broken. The example below shows the uni-pane template, but the problem occurs with all templates.

Upon clicking the first or second topic link (in the red circled area), this displays "The page cannot be found" and the navigation links themselves disappear.

I noticed that the problem only exists when the topics in the Project Manager are organized into subfolders. If all the topics in the Project Manager reside in the top-level folder, the links navigate properly. Also, the links are only clickable when in online mode, not in local mode. I've been unable to either disable the navigation links entirely, or make them un-clickable in online mode.

I'm running RH9, Windows 7 (64-bit).

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I recently upgraded a RH8 project to RH10. The project is a multiple merged help system as described in

The merged AIR Help output from RH8 worked fine, but now when you search for any text in AIR Help from RH10, the message "Error: Failed to initialize database" appears.

All other aspects of the upgraded AIR Help project seem to be ok. Is this a known issue with RH10 Air Help?

Linking to topics in browser based help

Hello everyone --

I was wondering if there is a way to link to a given help topic in the browser based help, that is not the default topic, and still have the ToC and header appear as it does when you link to /help.htm

For example, let's say URL for the general help guide is http://www.hardware123.com/help_doc/help.htm

This help guide has a topic on sprockets (sprockets.htm). From the sprocket section of the website, can I add a link to http://www.hardware123/help_doc/sprockets.htm that will still generate the ToC?

Hi all.

I am new developer to AIR. I am working with Flash Builder 4.6. My app for Android uses camera with overlayed stuff and it works great when I deploy it to my Samsung Galaxy S3. FB installs the Adobe Air 3.1.0.488 into the phone and the app works. After that, when Adobe AIR update to 3.6.0.609 from the PlayStore, my app works wrong sometimes (show white image where camera video content should be viewed) or directly crash closing itself.

One idea is to update any SDK, but I don't know how even if that could solve the problem.

Any help is very appreciated.

I have used RoboHelp HTML help (.chm) to support our fat client product for several years now. We are now moving our product to the cloud as a web application. Consequently I am converting our help to webhelp. (I am using RoboHelp of course.) Question is, does it make sense to use Air? The whole idea of going to the cloud is that we want our customers to be able to access our application from any internet connected device. Is Air something we load on our server, or must it be downloaded onto every computer that accesses our application? I like the dynamic skin with commenting that Air offers, but I don't want to force our customers to have download someting like an Air application before they can view our help.

Is there an easy way to get an AIR app published from Robohelp onto an Android tablet?

Browser Based AIR Help Publishing Issue

My publishing workflow for browser-based AIR help has performed flawlessly until recently. I now receive publishing failure notices (as pictured below) without exception. Up until December 15th (when I made my last update), I have never encountered any problems. I have made no overt changes to my computer configuration. I am of the opinion that this issue is specific to RoboHelp as I am still able to successfully utilize the exact same destination and server information to upload content in both Dreamweaver and Filezilla without any issues. I have tried to remedy this using RoboHelp version 8 and RoboHelp version 9 on a second computer as well. HostGator tech support (which is excellent by the way) states that the information I am using is accurate.

Sure I can still overwrite all the content using Filezilla but that's hardly an optimal workflow.

I am stumped and would appreciate any thoughts.

Hi All!

Publishing with RoboHelp 8...

WebHelp generates and publishes properly to the server. Viewable, working, all good.

Browser Based AIR Help previews, generates, publishes, but won't display via IE or Safari. All that I get is a blank page instead of index.htm

Side Note/Side Issue: Project contains links to Baggage File PDF's. The links in the WebHelp version works properly. The BB AIRHelp only displays a blank page

Any thoughts?

Search returns "null" on first search only

When our Help is installed on a clean machine, the first time you search, it returns "null". Then subsequent searches work normally.

Does anyone have a clue what this could be? I don't want to discourage users on their first try.

Browser compatibility for Adobe AIR (browser-based version)

Hi there,

I'm using RoboHelp 10 to create the browser-based version of Adobe AIR. My understanding is that this version of AIR uses Flash for some of the navigation, such as the table of contents.

Can anyone else share their findings on which browsers and Flash plug-ins will reliably display the browser-based version of AIR? I've found that it displays fine on IE 8, but not IE 9, and not Google Chrome (version 23).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Encrypting Adobe Air Help

Two questions:

1. Is there a way to encrypt (password protect) an Adobe Air Help so that a user cannot download and access the Help file outside of the application? The application data files are encrypted, and I need to encrypt the Help file (if possible).

2. Is there a way to remove the Print icon from the Adobe Air Help file?

Expanded air files

Hello,

We're using RoboHelp software to create our help files. The output is generated as .air file.

For deployment we're using InstallShield Basic MSI projects.

In order to include the help files we have 2 options:

1. Include the .air file in the IS MSI and run the AdobeAir installer (silent, eventually) to install the air files.

2. Include the expanded (installed somewhere and copied) help files / folders in the IS MSI and just copy them on the target machine. The expanded air files/folder do not require any other registration, etc, in order ru be used.

The first option would be the correct one, but I have 2 problems:

- I cannot (simply) fully identify the airinstaller.exe location (Versions/1.0/Ressources) considering that the '1.0' could be different on client's machine;

- A proper AdobeAir install will record the help package in the installed programs which will look weird as a distinct piece of software from our installed product.

So, I want to try the second option. This implies that the RoboHelp output .air file has to be first deployed (expanded) in order to get the list of files and folders.

Is it possible to set up RoboHelp so it generates all these files directly?

We are working exclusively under / for Windows OS.

Table Sorting in AIR Application Help

Does anyone have a solution for creating tables with rows that can be sorted by clicking on column headers in Adobe AIR application Help? I successfully created the functionality in CHM help and AIR browser help by following the information provided here: ttp://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/tables/sorting_mingyi.org/sortrows.htm (minus the Killer Stripes alternate row color method, which is no longer available).

However, when I generate AIR application Help, the sort functionality doesn't work.

I'm running RoboHelp HTML 9.0.2.271 in a Win 7 64-bit environment with Java Version 7 Update 9 (build 1.7.0_09-b05).

Note: For what it's worth, I have successfully deployed the "Show / Hide without Twisties - One button" JavaScript functionality described on page 9 of http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/twisty/Twisties1.pdf in AIR application help.

My guess is that the JavaScript that provides the row sorting is the issue. Is there a modification I can make to the free mingyi.org sort JS file that'll enable the functionality in AIR application Help? Alternatively, does anyone know of a another table sorting JS file that's AIR application help friendly?

Does anyone know of a way to produce working twisties-with-ShowHideAll controls that work in AIR applications produced from Robo 8?

Peter Grainge's web site (http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/twisty/twisty.htm) provides excellent information about implementing a variety of twisty methods for webhelp output that displays well in Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Google Chrome.

Currrently we use the "twisties with a one-button ShowHideAll" implentation that works great in Webhelp format. Unfortunately, this method uses the "original" twisty method with a single-button ShowHide script - neither of which currently works in AIR output.

There is another twisty method (TS Paul's) that works fine in AIR, but cannot be combined with ShowHideAll button functionality.

RoboHTML 8 does provide a fairly crude, built-in method for implementing twisties that is supported through the default RH webhelp Javascript file: ehlpdhtm.js. However, this method only supports a single twisty implementation per help project, and it doesn't support any ShowHideAll controls.

Does anyone know a way around this limitation, that would allow including Twisties-with-ShowHideAll functionality in RoboHTML so that it is viewable in AIR format?

Non-local searches return "null" results

I'm creating a Merged help output using AIR Browser Based Help. Said output currently has one major flaw: null search results when viewed over a network.

Now, I have read through the thread on this forum about people who initially got a "null" search result when searching a local project, but with the search subsequently working, and indeed that behavior is what I was initially seeing. That is, on my local copy of the project, my first search would return "null," and then things would work normally. However, when other users accessed my local project over our network, they never got anything other than "null" results. (Quick aside for relevant information: output was from 64-bit RH9, testing is on FIrefox 13 and I.E. 9) If I move my local copy onto the network, I am no longer successful in searching.

I have performed the suggested fix on the whfhost.js file, and while it fixed the problem locally-- I no longer see "null" results-- the problem persists for non-local access. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hi everyone,

Border-radius CSS does not work within the help framework in IE9 when producing browser-based AIR Help (RH 8.0.2.208).

If I access the page directly, it works fine. But if I access it from within Help, the corners are square.

Any ideas?

Navigation (Back/Forward) buttons not working in Firefox

I'm tring to put together a Browser Based help guide, and for the most part it's working as intended... except for the navigation buttons within the help guide themselves. By that I mean...

Those guys. The way I would assume they work is that they provide back/forward navigation between topics as you move through the guide, but they don't seem to be functional. As in, they do nothing, ever. They don't even act clickable.

(The forward and back buttons provided by my browser do seem to work, but I'd like to get these working, as well.)

We're testing mostly in Firefox 13; we've also tried IE 9, and the buttons work correctly. Any ideas?

Air 3.3 with iOS 6 cannot render well

Hi there,

I've just tried to run an air app on iOS 6 but all the vistual elements doesn't render properly, e.g. the tab view cannot render tab icons/tab bar, the action bar cannot render anything at all.

Please let me know if you have any idea about that.

RH 9 AIRHelp Browser based help requiring pop-up blockers turned off

On Firefox and Chrome, but not in IE!

I've just handed off a browser based AIRHelp system to the software developers. I've tested it on my machine on Firefox and IE and have never had any problems with pop-blockers.

This is what they are appending to index.htm for the CSH call

#<id=7>>newwnd=false

However the 2 developers have not been able top get the CSH IDs to work unless Firefox and Chrome have them turned off.

Anyone any ideas?

Does anyone know if it is possible to configure AIR help output in Robohelp 8 such that the TOC synchronises with topics (as per HTML help)? Many thanks in advance and apologies if I am being thick.

Airhelp browser-based output and Chrome

Hi,

When we produced our help system (airhelp browser-based) and tested it in different browsers we found that in Windows Chrome if you mouse over a topic in the left pane that has a long string of text, it overlaps into the main window. We are using an Airhelp multi-tab accordion template style and the text overlaps so it is hard to read the text over text.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any workarounds or solutions?

are we doing something wrong when we generate the help?

Captivate won't play from TOC in IE

RH 8, AIR Webhelp output

Hi everyone,

I have some Captivate videos in my project. When I make an inline link from a topic to the HTML file that is generated by Captivate, which loads the video, everything works fine, but when I add the HTML files to the TOC, I get an empty page in IE (everything works fine in FF). A look at the source shows a really empty page, with only the following: <HTML></HTML>

So it seems like it's not loading the Captivate-generated HTML file at all.

I have tried adding the Captivate-generated HTML files to the project as baggage files, and I've tried adding <meta name="generator" content="Adobe RoboHelp 8" /> to the header and importing them, but th results are the same.

Any ideas?

EDIT: It turns out you must have Enable Protected Mode selected (Internet Options > Security). So now the question is: How do I get around this, since it's not the default setting.

WebHelp - TOC Default View

Using Adobe AIR/WebHelp, when my Help application initiallly opens and displays, only the parent-level folder is visible (see attached "TOC-current" image).

Question:

Is there any way to force RoboHelp (or the application) to display with the second tier of folders visible to the user (see attached "TOC-desired" image)?

Methods for sending Online Help URL/Link to users

Like a lot of people (and due to frames), when I send a URL to a user that points to a specific topic, I will:

Right-click the main content screen and select Properties.
Copy the URL details on to my clipboard.
Paste into an email note (if communicating via email)

The problem with my AIR-compiled WebHelp is that the TOC disappears unless I append a hash/number sign to the front portion of the topic filename (e.g. #topic.htm) up in the address bar of the browser.

My question:

Because I'm getting complaints from the support group about these extra manual steps that only take a few seconds to do, is there another more elegant (and quicker) way to do this that I'm unaware of? I was even thinking of adding some sort of link on every page (in the header maybe) that says "Send this link . . ." but don't know how to autopopulate the complete URL path with the "#" since it would only seem to eliminate part of the "problem" (not necessarily a problem to me, of course).

Context Sensitive Help in the Main Browser Window

I am outputting my Adobe Robohelp as Browser Based Help and am working to implement context-sensitivity.

I've made some progress with my context-sensitive help, in that I'm able to get it to open on the right page in a popup window with the TOC pane.

My code for this is:

myserverroot/index.htm#<str=map_ID>>

I've been reading the following site and it broke down the API into easy to follow chunks:

Given the methods described here, I should be able to have my context-sensitive guide open up in my main browser window rather than a popup by utilizing the following string:

However, when I run my tests, the UG still opens in a new popup window.

How can I fix my code so that it displays in my main browser window with the TOC rather than a popup window?

What is the CSH call format for AIRHelp BROWSER format?

We have a Airhelp generated with RH9 under linux...

We have multiple custom softwares that each have a help button, when clicking on one, we need our Airhelp to start at a specific topics. How would you achieve this, map ids ? topic ids? role ? I m quite confused on how do to this...

Merge TOC

Using RH 8.0.2.208.

My parent TOC looks like this:

My child TOC looks like this:

yyy

zzz

I expect the result to look like this:

xxx

yyy

zzz

But instead, I get this:

yyy

zzz

xxx

Is there a way to actually merge them? It seems like they're just appended. I'm looking for a solution that does not involve post-production work. We update Help too often to make manual changes every time we build.

Air Help not a valid option for some projects?

RH9, multiple projects that are currently deployed as merged webhelp.

I opened the project we use as the 'parent' project and was able to change the output to Air, no problem. But when I try to open the other projects that we use as 'child' projects, it doesn't allow us to select Air. The option doesn't even display in the output drop-down.

Is there a setting we need to change? My understanding was that Air can do merged help projects and does them in the same manner as our existing format, Webhelp.

Sharing Comments between different Content Categories

Hello!

For the record, I'm using RH HTML 9.

I am producing a Air Hel output, in which I have more than one content category (for instance Supervisor and Staff). I was wondering if there was a way to set it up so that the Supervisors could see the Staff comments, as well as their own comments?

I'm guessing it could work both ways: since some topics are hidden to the Staff, they will not see the comments on those topics anyway. Basically, can the comments be shared among the different content categories?

AIR Damaged, can't access PS5 Help

I have been trying to access PS5 Help, but all I get is a window saying that this installation of this application (AIR) is damaged. Try re-installing or contacting the publisher... I have unisntalled, re-downloaded, reinstalled repeatedly. Same result. Obviously, PS5 help is no help, since I need AIR to access that.

search capabilities for mergedhelp

Can someone explain what the outcome of the search function will be with mergedhelp? (I am attempting to do merged help with AIR output.) It looks like if you don't use merged help, but instead, simply insert a CHM reference in the TOC of a project, the topics in that CHM are not searchable. Is this one of the advantages of doing merged help?

AIRHelp and the web

I'm having problems connecting my AIRHelp app with Webhelp Pro on Robohelp server.

In the Adobe AIR SSL there is a field to enter the 'Show Online Content'.

On Robohelp server, my project have the link: http://<server>:<port>/robohelp/server?project=tips

What should the link be in the "Show Online Content" field? The same link does not work, even if it works when opening the project in a web browser.
