I just purchased Adobe 7 Captivate on March 28th, 2014 and Adobe 8 has just became available. I am extremely upset that now I have to spend $299.00 once again to pay for an upgrade; I had to save for an entire year for the 7th edition and Adobe will not let me upgrade with a discount depsite purchasing this on the last lag of the 7th edition.

I have 400+ projects to upgrade from Captivate 3 to Captivate 7.

Adobe support said that I would be able to download and install intermediate versions of Captivate (perhaps 5 or 5.5) to perform the upgrade, but I cannot see where to find trial versions of past versions of Captivate - if that is what I need.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Smart shape nav buttons broken in project upgrade from 6 to 7

Captivate version: 7.0.1.237 Windows 7

I have a project with navigation that worked properly in v6, but now the smart shape navigation buttons are broken. I've tried relinking the existing smart shapes to another slide and creating new smart shapes to link. The shapes themselves change visually when clicked (the normal change), but the project does not go to any other slide.

Does anyone have suggestions for what else to try? I have a workaround in my back pocket (transparent button over the smart shape), but I would much rather do this appropriately.

Upgrade from 5.5 to 7 - no longer step by step slides

I opened a project previously created in 5.5 using our upgraded Captivate 7. I need to make some adjustments to specific slides, copy & extract individual slides to put in another project etc. The entire project is still on slides but is now a full on video with no ability to edit the slides. This is not how it was originally done. Am I going to have to re-do every project ihave created to date if changes are necessary?

I am running both CP6 and CP7 on Windows 7.

I am still working on projects created with Captivate 6 in Captivate 6. However, since installing CP7, any projects that I edit and publish with CP6 freeze up on the slide just before the first question slide.

Since I have only begun experiencing this issue since CP7 was installed, I am assuming that it is something to do with the fact that i have both versions (6 and 7) installed.

The only solution I have found so far is to open and publish the project in CP7, but this is not ideal as the projects I am working on in CP6 are new versions of ones already published in SAP LSO and I am concerned that publishing new versions of my courses from a different CP version will cause issues in LSO.

Any ideas why this might be happening? Ideally, I would prefer to continue to use CP6 for existing projects and only use 7 for new projects.

How can I upgrade earlier lessons to CP 7?

I have many lessons built in CP 3, 4, 5.

It seems that CP 7 won't upgrade them, as it only shows lessons with the .cptx file extension.

How can I upgrade these earlier lessons? Do I really have to use cp6 first and then re-do them in cp7?

Saving Captivate 5 as Captivate 4?

I work for a very large training organization. Only my group of 6 individuals are upgrading to Captivate 5. Everyone else will be remaining at Captivate 4 for the time being. I don't see a way to save as (or export to) Captivate 4. Is it at all possible? If not, this is almost a deal-breaker.

I have some current content that was created using Captivate 5 that is basic system demonstration with some simple interactions, clickboxes and buttons. When I open in CP6, it previews fine, publishes to swf good, but when I publish to HTML5, the mouse jitters and has an undefined motion, then moves back to the origination point. This is particularly obvious when there is no motion set for the mouse.

Also, the mouse is always on the top layer, even when I want something over it. This is less important than the mouse jitter and undefined motion, but would be nice to have a fix.

I am using Captivate 6 on Windows 7 Professional.

I have tried the following to resolve.

Saved as the newer version of Captivate prior to publishing
Shifting the timing of the mouse, saving, then shifting back, saving, then publishing
Blank project:
- Exported backgrounds from original
- Created new blank project the same size as original
- Imported the backgrounds from the original
- Added the mouse on each slide

Item 3 fixed the mouse jitter and undefined motion, but still always layered on the top layer. I would move forward with item 3, but I have several projects that need to be in HTML5 format, therefore I need a better solution.

Project update to 6 = error: content seems to overlap playbar area

Hi we have a large amount of tutorials made in Captivate 5.5 and I'm working on a transition plan for us to update them to Captivate 6 so we can finally all install eLS6.

I experience errors related to the playbar where content seem to overlap down into the playbar. This "overlap" is showing up as white areas on sometimes on top of the playbar or in the area right next to the palybar. Please see screen shot:

It's not an option for me to choose Stretch TOC because I use the area below the TOC to put a logo.

I have tried to remove all widgets, choose a Captivate 6 provided skin, playbar and preloader as proposed by RodWard http://forums.adobe.com/message/4718279#4718279 - still with no luck.

Any ideas on what is happening?

I am not able to open projects done in 5.5 in version 6. I tried to copy and paste slides from an older project to a blank one in version 6 but it gives me an error response. How can I get my 5.5 projects to open in 6 so that I can update them?

My team recently upgraded from Captivate 5.5 to 6.0. One of us encountered a problem when she opened a file created in 5.5 in 6.0. The properties tab window did not apprear to be sized correctly. When my co-worker tried to insert an image button, there was no file folder button to choose an image. It looks like it is just off the screen, but we can not figure out how to get the button back. We tried resizing the properties tab and that did not work. The issue does not occur when we start with a blank project in 6.0. Can anyone help?

I know they've released CP6 and I saw an ad for eLearning Suite 6 ( I guess we skipped the other numbers) is either available or coming. I have a subscription for eLearning Suite 2.5 and I was told they'd upgrade when there were changes. I've written and asked Adobe about this but haven't heard anything. I was wondering if any of you might have an idea.

Upgrading from 4 to 5.5 Text Box Resizing

I am having an issue when I open a file I created in Captivate 4 and save it as a Captivate 5.5 file. All the text boxes are resizing and I have to manually fix each and every one. Is there a global setting that I can make so that this does not happen? I have over 3000 files so this is a BIG issue for us.

I am having an issue with the question resizing when I open a file created in Captivate 4 and save it as a Captivate 5.5. The questions are moving over the left and the default text is changing. Is there a way to fix this globally so I don't have to reset all the questions in each and every file? (I have over 3000 files).

Serial Number Verification and Network Connection

I have a subscription license for Captivate 5.5. I launched it yesterday and got a message stating I was not connected to the Internet for S/N verification. Well, I was. In fact, I had adobe.com open. I clicked the Try Again button with no luck. I uninstalled and reinstalled the program and had the same issue.

Thing is, I last used it on Sunday with no problems. I don't think it's my ISP because I tethered my laptop to my cell phone and used its WiFi connection and still got the same result.

Any suggestions? I'm going to call Adobe tonight when I get home from work. The timing on this is bad because I'm in the middle of a large freelance project that I need to wrap up in 10 days.

CP 5 Project templates wrong after upgrade to CP 5.5

Hi,

I just upgraded my CP 5 to CP 5.5 and discovered that all my project templates are NOK anymore

This is what I see:

All Placeholders no matter which one have an angle of -1 in CP 5.5.

I opened the templates in CP 5 and they are still OK.

Reopen in CP 5.5 same issue of course.

I hope that someone can give a tip on what the cause may be and has the remedy

Unfortunately, after paying and downloading I find out that I had to have CS 5 to get the upgrade price.

My most recent version is CS4 which is broken under Mac OS X LION (which I just upgraded to).

I either want my money back or want my upgrade to work. Adobe..this is a very frustrating experince

I am upgrading a project from Captivate 5.0 to 5.5. Two of the lessons that worked fine in 5.0 have problems in 5.5. Both lessons use the Tab key to move from field to field in a data row and then the Enter key to calculate at the end of the row. This worked fine in 5.0. In 5.5, pressing Tab caused jump to browser address window. I searched blog and found following solution to add: so.addParam(seamlessTabbing:, :false:); to the htm file generated when publishing the file. This is not a desirable solution for long term course maintenance, but it did work. Unfortunately a new problem then appeared. The project moved ahead without waiting for user input in the simulation exercises.

For slides with click boxes using Tab shortcut key and no other interactive objects, the movie just skipped ahead without waiting for user click. I would like the project to pause until the user presses the Tab key and then move to the next slide. The properties for the click boxes are:

Action:

On success: Go to the next slide
Attempts: Infinite
Allow mouse click - yes
Shortcut: Tab

Options:

Captions: Failure only
Others: Pause for Success/Failure Captions and Pause project until user clicks

Timing:

Display for: Rest of slide
Appear after 0 seconds (I have played around with this setting, but it does not seem to make a difference.)

For slides with Text Entry, the failure captions display before the user has a chance to input anything. Sometimes the captions flash several times at random. I would like the failure captions to only display when the user enters an answer that does not match the stored answers. The properties for the text entry boxes are:

General:

Default text: blank
Retain Text - checked
Validate User Input - checked
Var Associated: Text Entry Box ## (## changes from slide to slide)
On Focus Lost: No action

Action:

On Success: Go to the next slide
Attempts: Infinite
Shortcut: Tab

Options:

Captions: Failure only
Others: Pause for Success/Failure Captions

Timing:

Display For: Rest of slide
Appear after: 0.5 sec.
Pause After: 1 sec

Transition: No Transition

To test whether it was something I was doing in the editing, I went back to the original 5.0 version of the lesson and imported into 5.5 again and published without doing any editing. The lessons that worked fine in 5.0 did not work in 5.5. Then I tried replacing all the click boxes with new ones created in 5.5. That did not work. I tried adjusting the timing. That did not work. For the text entry boxes, I tried using Show Button, creating transparent button with Tab shortcut. That did not work. Several of these suggestions were ones that I found elsewhere in the Blog with similar but not identical problems. I never found a problem that combined the seamlessTabbing with the missed pauses.

I am puzzled and frustrated that these lessons that worked fine in 5.0 don't work in 5.5. Our primary edit is only to update the screen images and add a few new fields. I would often reposition an object on the slide, but not change its properties. Since most of the lessons are working fine in 5.5 and only these two that heavily use the Tab key are not working in 5.5. I don't really have the option of going back to 5.0. I need to put them in an aggregator and they all need to be the same version.

Is there a patch or a quick fix? Also, can the patch to the htm file be built in or is that what is causing the problem? For future course maintenance, it will be complicated to have to treat these two lessons specially. Also, we usually link to the swf file and not the htm file. Our users often use browsers other than Internet Explorer.

Help! Need to open a Captivate 5.5 file in Captivate 5

Hey smart people.

I created a Captivate file using 5.5, and the customer is still using Captivate V5.

I still have Captivate V5 loaded on my machine. When I open Captivate 5 and try to open the CPTX file, the system gets to about 30% (opening Project(s)) but eventually gives me an error. "Adobe Captivate could not open "file name" ensure that:..."

I even tried to copy the slides individually from Cap 5.5 to Cap 5 and when I paste the slide nothing happens.

Is there a way to save the file to be compatible with V5?

A way to export to V5

Full Motion recording screen size

I've updated a project from v3 to v5. The full motion recordings are not displaying correctly. They appear to be zoomed in and part of the screen is cut off. This occurs when editing the slides as well as after published. The recordings were originally made in 1024x768 then resized to 800x600. When converting to v4 the recordings are fine, but going from v3 to v5 or v4 to v5 causes this issue. This is happening on all projects. Any thoughts?

Hi,

I just submitted the bug report.

And would like to confirm again in this forum to see if anybody has any update.

To reproduce this issue is very simple.

Open Widget Panel and insert TextArea.swf or CertificateWidget.swf, as an example.

It's OK for typing in English but not supported in Unicode (i.e., I typed in Traditional Chinese).

Captivate 5.5 Projects on Captivate 5

I have just intalled Captivate 5.5 on my PC. I shared this information with my other team members and I came to know that there is a serious issue. All my other team members have Captivate 5 and I was informed that if I make any changes to an existing project in v5.5, it won't be accessible in v5.

I just Googled some things and came to know that many users have this issue while working on a shared project.

Is this really true? If yes, then what is the solution?

Issue with 5.0 to 5.5 quiz upgrade. Clicking on 'Incorrect Caption' stalls quiz...

I have about 20 AC 5.0 quizzes that I have upgraded to AC 5.5. I did so hoping that my 'Continue' button issue would resolve... haven't been able to test that yet.

Two main things I noticed.

1. My 'Review Area' converted from a word-wrap area to a long string that just goes off the stage on both sides.

2. if my Quiz user clicks on the 'Incorrect Caption' bubble it stops the whole quiz. All buttons don't work and I have to reload the swf.

Any thoughts on these two areas?

I got around #1 by manually putting line feeds in the text of my review text, but that is pretty lame.

My project after published in AC4 is a way smaller than the one converted and published under AC5. It is the swf file that changed dramatically - under AC4 - about 4 mb, under AC5 - about 19mb. THe content is exactly the same. It is a significant difference as it makes my project to load much slower. What may be solution to this problem. Any suggestions?

Erratic behavior in playback of CP5 File converted from CP4. Help Please

Hi,

I've got several CP4 files that I have opened with CP5 and re-publised.

When playing these files back, they have erratic behavior like not pausing, and skipping ahead to places when there is not links or slide actions that point there, and navigation that does not flow correctly.

I have discovered the following so far -

For an upgraded CP4 to CP5 project that contains multiple clickboxes on one slide, all the clickboxes for that slide need to be erased and re-created.

and

For an upgraded CP4 to CP5 project that contains multiple clickboxes on one slide, you cannot copy and paste a click box on the same slide, change tha parameters a little, and expect it to work.

Figuring this out was a nightmareish, long and tedious process, I hope none of you have to go through it. Please use this information to save yourselves the headache.

Now, that being said, is anyone else having this issue?

Seen this behavior? What did you do to fix it?

Any thoughts?

I noticed that Captivate 5.5 is available today and I am eager to upgrade and check out the new features.

However, I am trying to find to find out what has been fixed with Captivate 5.5. Is anyone aware of any release notes or knowledge base articles that explain what has been fixed/improved?

To clarify, I'm not looking for information on new features, just what's been fixed/improved.

I've installed Captivate 5 in a Windows XP...It works fine with new files, but when I try to open a Captivate4 file, the software closes!!

Hi all,

I received a project from a client that they had started in Captivate 4. I only have Captivate 5, and notice that immediately upon opening their file, it converts the project into a .cptx file.

Since the client only has Captivate 4, I want to make sure they still have a workable version of the file when I return it to them. Thus, I'm wondering if it's possible that I can work within their .cp file in Captivate 5, without it turning into a Captivate 5 (.cptx) file.

Cp4 to CP5 Audio Issues

I have a number of CP4 projects that when opened in CP5 the audio sounds like the presenter is in a gold fish bowl yards away from the mic! I've tried going into Audio > Edit > Project and attempted to adjust the volume and also tried changing Audio Processing which all plays back fine in the Audio Preview, but as soon as I do a swf preview the sound reverts back to the goldfish bowl effect!

Any ideas?

Hello,

I've been reading through the different forum categories hoping to find a solution to opening CP4 files with CP5 without the program crashing. I'm seeing a lot of discussion, however, I'm not seeing too many solutions. I'm holding out hope the other members were able to work out their issues and that's why many of the discussions seem to end three to five months ago.

My company just installed CP5 on my PC and when I converted my first project it actually imported with just a few issues. The background graphic was missing and some of the text formatting was jumbled. Other than that it was fine. However, when I saved, closed, and then tried to reopen the project I received a message stating there was an error with the file and it wouldn't open. So I have all of these CP4 files with the CP5 program that won't accept them.

Are there any solutions?

Captivate 3 to 5 module conversion issues

My colleagues and I upgraded from Captivate 3 to Captivate 5 for Windows and have been having problems converting modules from the previous to the current version. Buttons seem to disappear, lose their type, and/or get moved. FIll in the blank questions have their drop down shifted from the question to the upper left corner of the screen (not a clue how to fix that). Generally speaking, it is a headache to have to go through an entire module and manually make changes to 30+ slides per module, and we are talking about a lot of modules. Does anyone know of a patch or way to smooth the conversion of modules from 3 to 5? Thanks.

Loading multiple projects

I upgraded from CP4 to CP5 in order to be able to load a rather large project that I have.

It's at 377 slides in total using Optimized output.

I even tried making smaller projects and published them to the same directory but can't get the projects to load from one antoher.

What am I missing?

I just upgraded from Captivate 4 to Captivate 5. When I open projects created in Captivate 4 and then resave them as Captivate 5 files (.cptx) the file sizes increase dramatically (e.g., 26,000 kb to 184,000 kb). I have deleted all unused objects and resaved, but the file sizes are still very large. Should I do something other than just opening them in Captivate 5?

This may be a stupid question. I am new to Captivate. I have version 5 installed and from what I can tell of the projects I have been given, I can only edit the content of these projects by opening the .cp (version 3) project file.

Unfortunately, I just ran across one project that has no project file, but several .xml, .swf, .htm, and a few .js files with it. How should I proceed to edit these files in Captivate 5 if I can't find the associated .cp project file?

My Creative Suite 4 is useless now!?!

I used to work with CS2.. until 2010 Dec, I got a project which needed to be work on with a newer version of CS. I didn't wanted to spend too much money, so I got the CS4 in suite which apparently was hard to find on the market because CS5 was out and cost near 5k.... Right after Christmas, my family cheaped in and sponsored some money for me to get a MacBook Pro.

My PC CS4 is not compatible with the Mac. I just spent 3k to get the CS4 a month ago... I don't want to spend an other 4k to buy the Mac CS5.... I need to find a way to upgrade by PC version of CS4 to Mac version CS... and yes, mine is the Student Edition.

Please tell me i got options rather buying and buying the new version on Adobe.. and new version just because i got a new computer? =(

We developed a solution using Captivate 5.....now we found out that it cannot publish using AS2.... and some users are using Flash 7 (no control over it).

Are there any solutions rather than purchasing Captivate 4 and rebuilding it in Captivate 4?

For Example:

Converter for C5 to C4

A plugin to enable backward compatibility for saving as C4

A plugin to enable Flash 7 to run solutions built with Captivate 5

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all. I can't find a similar question posted in obvious related posts; so... I have CP4, and used to be able to open an older project created in CP3. You could watch it convert the slides then provide option to save in v4 as new file name. Now I cannot do this, beyone the Save as diag box option, then ...nothing.. I had a reinstall of programme - which has not resolved the issue; and - yes, I am working locally, and only small number of frames.? Lucky I still have CPv3 but am frustrated by this. Is this by design? Thanks for any help or advice.

URGENT HELP NEEDED

I have been running design premium CS4 windows based and design premium CS3 mac and now want to upgrade to design premium CS5 on both. I however sit with the dilemma of not knowing which is the correct upgrade to buy as there are different versions of upgrades when visiting my suppliers. Each supplier has their own idea of why their product is the correct one, but with no return policies how am I guaranteed of purchasing the correct upgrades. Is there anyone out there who can assist with advice?

Problems with Shortcut keys

I have a project originally created in version 4. Opened it in version 5 and there are several slides with short cut keys that do not work. The keys are Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V. These slides are showing how to move cell contents in an excel spreadsheet. I can change them to another short cut such as Ctrl+C and it works to move to the next slide but that is not the correct combination needed in the project. Anyone have an answer to this problem?

Re-publishing CP4 files using Captivate 5

I recently upgraded to Captivate 5. I opened my existing CP4 files in Captivate 5 with no issues. I am creating a training/demonstration file, so I added several(~20) new slides capturing the content with Captivate 5. I'm having two issues that are really show stoppers!

1) When I publish the file with Captivate 5 into a .EXE, about 50% of my users get an error opening the file. "The application has failed to start becuase its side-by-side configuration is incorrect".

2) The new section I captured with Captivate 5 is noticeably slower than the older section, where I captured the content using Captivate 4. So much slower that many users commented they're not sure they'd use it in front of their customers. The older section where I captured the content using Captivate 4 is still very snappy and responsive.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

In Captivate 5 I don't see PENS as an option in the preference dialog box. It is discussed in the Using Adobe Captivate 5 PDF that comes with the CP5 software.

Can't open version 3 documents with version 5

Hello,

My company didn't upgrade me to version 4 so I'm trying to open my version 3 .cp files with version 5. Every time I try to open one, it crashes.

I'm using a different computer (still Windows XP, though) than I had when I last used the version 3 files and am accessing them on a remote server via VPN.

Any ideas? I've tried restarting my computer when it doesn't open and looking for a version 4 to download so I can try opening it that way, saving it, and then opening it in version 5, but I haven't had any luck so far.
