Three problems here:

1....the thumbwheel that appears when you highlight a portion of the audio file has disappeared. Its the little wheel that amplifies the sound of the highlighted portion of the track. Any idea how it went away and how to bring it back?

2.... Is there a way to disable the MIXDOWN from being inserted into the multi-track? When I Bounce To new Track, the mixdown inserts itself into the middle of my other tracks. I solve this problem by saving before i mix down, but is there a way to keep it from being inserted?

3.... We have Adobe Audition 3.0 on five machines. On two of them, we can minimize while playing back and it will continue to play back. On the other three, anytime you click to a different window or minimize, it will stop playing. Any settings make the audio still play (as in ON AIR) while minimizing?

How do I create random pitches (only the chromatic scale, within specified lowest and highest pitches) lasting for random durations (specifying only 16th notes through whole notes) ?

I want to create a track with random pitches occurring for a specified amount of time or specified number of bars.

I've been using Audition 1.5 for many years, generally to slow down and transcribe music.

It's been reliable and I have had no problems. I run Windows XP.

Today it won't start up. The message is get is: "There was an unknown error starting the application".

I look in the event viewer on Windows, but see no error messages.

Drilling down into the program, all the sound files are still there.

Earlier this week, I installed Adobe Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements.

Would there possibly be a conflict?

Any advice much appreciated.

I've just upgraded my PC to Windows 8.1 and installed Audition 3.0

Everything else on the PC - sound-wise - is working perfectly (Premiere, Media stuff etc) but whenever I insert a CD OR play a YouTube song and try to record via Audition, NOTHING!

I'm tearing my hair out trying to get it to link to the on-board sound on the motherboard, but it won't

Can't use a separate ASIO card because there's only ONE PCi slot and that's got a graphics card in it with the Firewire adaptor for my mini-DV tapes.

Any suggestions, please?

Multitrack View not showing up on Adobe Audtion 3.0

You have your Edit View, Multitrack View, and Cd View. Edit View and Cd View work when I click on them but Multitrack view doesn't come up when i click on it. The time selection although does change and I am able to navigate my cursor blindly not knowing what I'm doing almost like there's a multitrack window going on in the back but I can't get to it. Please help, anything would be greatly appreciated.

recent install of AA3, with ASI sound card 5111 with WDM/wavecombo - v.4.10.29 driver. On-board Realtek sound disabled.

I can play but can't record in 22,050 (just 44,100) "we do not support recording when your file does not match your current sample rate. Your current sample rate is 44100)

previous install of AA1.5 had no problems with various sample rates. Changes to the ASI driver settings has no effect. Is this a driver issue or an issue with AA3?

How to split a MP3 file into several files?

Hi, I have Adobe Audition 3 and I would like to split one big MP3 file (an album) into separata tracks (and save it as separate MP3 files).

How can I do this the fastest/least tedious way?

And will the MP3 be preserved or will it encode it again (I don't want that).

Keyboard shortcuts in Audition 3 like CS6's Transport/Shuttle/Right and Left

I can't find a way to emulate video editors' J K L keys (shuttle left, stop, shuttle right) in Adobe Audition 3.

Video editors rest their fingers on the J K and L keys. One press of L plays normally, a second press plays faster, and a third plays faster yet. Same with the J key in reverse.

In Audition CS6 they're called Shuttle Right and Shuttle Left. I tried all of the Transport Play control settings in AA3 with no luck.

I remember accomplishing this long ago in Audition 1.5 so there MUST be a way to do it in 3.0!

Any hints?

Hi! Is there a way to highlight multiple portions of a waveform within the same file to then apply an edit? For instance, if I wish to reduce the volume of breath intakes on a vocal by 10 db in six spots in the file. Can I do this all at once by highlighting all six breaths, then do the edit? Many thanks!

Audition 1.5 saving to lousy settings

I've been using 1.5 for years and had no problems until it started saving my mixdowns using very lousy settings.

I work in radio and I've been getting burned by this for a few weeks now unless I manually make sure the Save Options (pictured) is where it should be.

My Multitrack settings are where they're supposed to be

but once I get to the 'save as' command it defaults to some really bad settings.

Is there a default I can trigger so that everything is saved (mp3) to an 'airable' quality setting (192kbps, 44k, 16bit)?

Hello hive mind,

When I click on a file to edit it, initially that file appears in waveform edit view mode and then andter a second or two it flips to spectral frequency display.

It is easly enough to Shif+W to get it back to waveform display, but why does it do this? and more's to the point how do I stop it from flipping to spectral freq disp?

I would like the default view in edit mode to be waveform.

Can you help, please?

I am running Audition 3.0 on a BRAND NEW HP Envy running Windows 8.1 For the last month AA 3.0 has been working

fantastic until just this morning when I opened a file and it appeared on my timeline just fine.

BUT, the name of the file did not appear on the upper left hand portion of the screen - nothing, nada, blank.

Below is the screen shot showing my audio file, but NOTHING in the left hand dock...

This is causing a TREMENDOUS slowdown, need to get this fixed...any solutions???

Hi folks,

i use a helix board 24 MKII into AA 3.0.1 to record multitrack sessions. recording works fine, but playing it back does not.
now before i start blaming the firewire interface or some other technical flaw, i would like to make sure that i've set it up properly in the AA interface settings.

i have the audition 3.0. windows sound, ASIO4ALL v2 and Phonic 1394 ASIO drivers to choose from, the latter i use as the input source right now.

What i would like to do is record via the helix board and play it back via my laptop's internal audio interface, out through the headphone jack --> power mixer --> speakers.
seems quite logical to me but apparently it's not that easy

one important thing: the guy who sold us the helix board said that the firewire interface is somehow broken. we didnt't quite believe him but now it looks like he was right.

As far as i can imagine, i would have to choose ASIO4ALL or Audition 3.0 Windows Sound, then click control panel... and enable both the internal audio interface as well as the helix board. then choose what i need for default input and default output?

having tried that, it didn't work.

any help appreciated with this one!

Cutting long recording into smaller pieces

Hi everybody,

in our last rehearsal we didn't want to stop recording everytime after a song (in fact we were in a pretty good flow ) so we just kept it on for about 50 minutes.
now i would like to cut it down to extract all of the songs and have them separately for editing.

how can i make separate audio files from a long recording?
i have already cut out the talking and joking in between the songs and obviously the audio files are still the same. so how do i get each of them isolated?

Yes i have the same problem with adobe audition 3.0 windows 7

first i got error visual c++ run time error . ( old windows )

then i install new windows and every time i try to lunch adobe audition . stuck and error message

last step i did i ordered original CD of adobe audition 3.0 and expecting it next week .

but it bother me because i love working in adobe product i don't want to record in any other software .

My computer crashed. Lost all my files. A2007 Sony Vaio Windows 7. The Adobe help Desk helped me reload Adobe 3.0.. I loaded my RME babyface drivers. OK. I don't know what caused this, but I attempted to open Audition last night and it didn't happen. I got the odd prompt that the serial number was invalid. (I bought this program many months ago, and it is installed on this and another computer.)

I then attempted to uninstall it so I could then reinstall it, but have been prevented from doing so for some reason. There are two options in the Install Wizard on the disc, Repair and Remove.

When I attempt to repair, it completes the installation successfully. Then I attempt to open the program and get "The serial number is invalid. Please reinstall Adobe Audition." again. I can't!

When I attempt to remove it, the process gets stopped at the same point each time, prompting the following the message:

"The wizard was interrupted before Adobe Audition 3.0 could be completely installed.

Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again."

In the Control Panel's "Uninstall or change a program" section, there are two entries for Adobe Audition 3.0

One has the options to Uninstall, Change or Repair and has no listing under the "Publisher" column.

When attempting to perform any one of these options, NOTHING happens.

The other, with "Adobe Systems Incorporated" has only a "Uninstall/Change" option.

Choosing this sole option results exactly the same way as when attempting to perform the uninstall from the disc.

Ugh. What's happening? How can I resolve this, and what might have caused it?

Dynamics Processing in 3.0 Seems To Ignore Thresholds

Migrating form 1.5 To 3.0 I find my Dynamics Processing Custom Settings don't work properly...the thresholds seem to have no effect. I have several customs settings which I've used for years in 1.5 which I duplicated in 3.0 which compress at a ratio 4 to 1 below -8 DB or -12 db as examples but it seems to compress everything equally regardless of level so the net effect is only to reduce the overall level...there is no selective compression with respect to volume levels. Sounds crazy but I've checked these settings over and over and I just can't get it to work like it did in 1.5 and yes...I've checked all the pages in the setting dialogs and have Peak selected, overall gain is set the same and attack and release times are the same.

What am I missing?

Audition 3 CD List file size discrepancies

Was trying to quickly burn a CD of my recent edits this morning and discovered that the 20 mp3 files I was trying to burn were coming up as being over the 700mb cd limit. A quick compare in windows properties showed me that each file was about 5mb. But once I imported them into the CD list, they were recognized as ~30-50mb files. This unexplained discrepancy meant that I could not burn all these files on one disc, despite the fact that the entire folder contents was only read as ~90mb in windows. Anyone seen this before? Why the difference in file sizes between what Windows sees and what Audition sees?

Tempo slows down when copy and paste

I write 8 bars of hi hat which fits perfectly to the tempo of the track I'm writing using Audition 3, but when I copy and paste the 8 bars to follow on from the first 8, the tempo slows down by the time it reaches the end of the 8 bar measure and seems to be one or two bpm slower. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and advise what I can do about it?

hiccup between tracks when transposing down a step

I have audition 1.5 and I'm transposing background split tracks for the choir at church. After doing this there is a glitch in the sound each time the soundtrack goes from track to track in the body of the song. Each song has 4 to 6 cuts in it for rehearsal purposes and I can't smooth out the transition between cuts. Any advise?

I work for a radio station so several people use Adobe Audition 1.5, including interns who have little to any previous experience with it. When files are saved, I tell them to save everything as an .mp3; also, most everything that's saved has the date in the file name (as in 2-15ComedyClub.mp3 or McDonalds2-20.mp3).

Occassionally, however, someone accidentally mistypes and uses a period with the date instead of a dash, which will cause the computer to think it's a file extension; i.e. saving the file McDonalds2.20.mp3 instead of McDonalds2-20.mp3.

In doing that, this changes the "files of type" section when you're trying to save a file. Normally, in that "files of type" section, you'd see mp3PRO (FhG) (*.mp3) if you wanted to save an mp3 and Windows PCM (*.wav) if you want so save as a wav, etc. However, when the file name is saved incorrectly, the new "extension" shows up. Using the current example of McDonalds2.20.mp3, If i go to save a file, under the save drop-down menu, in the "files of type" section, I'd see mp3PRO (FhG) (*.20.mp3, *.mp3) as the file type. And then when a new file is saved, the extension is .20.mp3.

How on earth do I fix this? (Besides the obvious, don't save things as the incorrect file name/extension)

I am a student at the National Film School.

I have completed the Audio Post - Production of a short film, which will now be taken to the production company "Bolivar Films" in which they will make a Dolby 5.1 mix. The problem is that i used the Adobe Audition 3 software for the Post-Production and Bolivar Fims use the program ProTools and the only way to pass the work session from one program to another program is using the AATranslator, which costs $ 199. In Venezuela we have a "monetary control", so we can not change our currency to dollars very easily and its imposible that the goverment authorize our credit cards for online purchases. So we will appreciate any contribution you can do in order to complete our audiovisual project. Thank you.

Recording with multiple instances of audition 3.01

Hello again.

Recently I upgraded a few machines from windows xp and audition 1.5 to Vista and audition 3.01

The most glaring difference now seems to be when our users have multiple audition windows open in 1.5 all recording from the same audio source.

The board ops might have 3 instances running so they can capture "highlights" and while they are editing a particular piece of audio the other instances are still recording.

I have the setting unchecked that releases the asio driver when the window is not in focus.

But when you start the record button on a second instance both recordings stop

Is there a way to set up version 3.01 to do this or will I have to go back to using v1.5?

I am having difficulty finding the loop content for my former version of Audition 3.0. I've reactivated as I need to re create an old music track but after unzipping the loopology files and extracting, etc. I saw it installing yet afterwards cannot find the files?

Changing a length of more than one audio file in same time

Hi! I'm searching a way to change a length of the several audio files at the same time (this applies to ads that will be broadcast at the radio. The sounds need to have same time accurate to milliseconds). Let's say I've got 20 audio ads, which were originally meant to have 30 seconds, but each of audio file has small differences reaching less than a second. I would like to do a one-off activity, that will change length of each file to equal 30.000 seconds. In a word, is there a way to stretch several audio files, which have different time, to the same length at a same time ?

I have recently had to move audition to a vista machine.

Now setup is a minor pain in the *** mostly due to Vista being Vista.

But now that I have it set up under my profile how can I keep these setting for all users?

When a new person logs into this computer it goes to the default built-in hardware (which of course is not connected to anything) and not to the sound card that is connected to the mixing console.

So what I am after, is a way to save all the settings(including work-spaces) and make them default for all users (including future users)

(Please tell me there is a way to do that... Having to set up AA for each and every intern or guest is going to be an incredible pain in my ***.)

Extract audio from CD fails in Win 7

I recently purchased a new Dell Studio XPS 8100 running Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium.

I purchased Adobe Audition 3.0 and upgraded to 3.01.

Extract audio from CD does work at all -- it does not even open a window to choose a track.

If I try to use the open command, I see the tracks but it says file type .cda is not supported.

(All of the above work perfectly with my old XP computer.)

I know my new hardware is working well because I can extract a CD track to a .wav file using
Windows Media Player. I can then opoen the .wav file in Audition and edit it.

What kind of dirty tricks is Microsoft Win 7 plalying on me?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Are there any patches to Audition or the OS to fix the problem?

I have been using Audition 3.0 since 2011. As of yesterday, it won't allow me to load new audio files. When I try, it simply freezes once I select the file. I re-installed it. Same problem. Then I installed it on another computer - same problem.

I've been seeing reports that Audition 3.0 is now in the public domain and that Adobe is making AA 3.0 available free? Is this true?

Audition 1.5 issue!

Hello everyone. First of all, i would like to thank you for your time in reading this.

I have a problem that happened when i put together my new pc

I work on Adobe Audition 1.5 from my old pc and when i used to work, i could import MP3's no problem and now on the new pc i cannot which is hindering my work badly as i have to sit and convert them into wav's then enter them( Using a separate converter coz MP3's are not even being read by Audition )

Ive tried multiple things to solve this but was unable to.

One peculiar thing i would like to mention is when i went tocontrol pannel to re-install, i hit repair instead to see what i can do, and it showed me my file associations and apparently everytime i tick MP3 over there, and hit repair, if i go back and do the same thing, it shows me MP3's as unticked. It automatically removes MP3 as a file association for some reason. I really need help in this if anyone can, Thanks again for your time!
