(Updated) Product inventory control for attributes (beta)

Overview

This much anticipated feature enables your clients to manage product inventory and stock levels based on what we now call “ product variations”. These are created starting from selected attributes (e.g. color, size, material).

You can enable this on a site-by-site basis from the new "Site Settings > Beta Features" section of the Admin Console.

How to enable it on your site

Step 1 – Enable the product inventory control feature

At release, this functionality is initially turned off. To enable this feature, login to your site admin and open the “Admin -> Site Settings -> Beta Features” page and check the “Enable inventory control per attributes” box. This menu is only visible to partners.

Enabling inventory control per attributes will update the following user interfaces:

Product Detail > Attributes – edit attribute screen now allows admins to specify which attribute would be used to generate variations from;
Product Detail > Inventory – allows admins to generate and manage product variations based on selected attributes
CRM > Orders – variations are now visible in orders and admin users can pick variations when creating an order from admin interface
Reports – Customers and orders, eCommerce>Products, eCommerce > Top 5 Products reports have been updated to include details about variations and attributes

Regardless of Product Inventory per Attributes feature being enabled or not, the Customers and Orders report now has the possibility of selecting/filtering by a new field, Order Item Description (attributes) which will expose the attributes values in the same format they appear in shopping cart or in order (e.g.: Red;Small).

Notes:

Once enabled, the feature becomes available for all site users (business owners and partners)
This feature is not available in the old admin user interface

Step 2 – Create a new product

Once the feature is enabled, you can create a new product starting from your site admin user interface. Enter your product details, pricing, add images and define attributes and attribute options.

Optionally, you can use an existing product that already has attributes defined, but no ability to manage inventory. IMPORTANT NOTE: enabling inventory on an existing product will discard existing stock levels on that product. The operation not reversible.

Step 2 – Enable stock control per attributes

Once you have created or picked a product for which you want to create variations for, go and enable stock control by attributes by editing your attributes settings in the "Product Details > Attributes" screen. Edit each attribute you want to create variations from, and tick the "Keep stock?" checkbox.

Step 3 – Generate variations and update stock and variation codes

Now that you have selected which attributes you’ll use to create product variations, you can ahead and create those variations. Switch to “Product Details > Inventory” tab and click on "Generate Variations" button.

The system will generate all combinations resulting from the attribute options that you’ve picked to keep stock for.

Once done, you can update the variation codes and stock. You can also choose to disable some variations, as you might not have those combinations available for sale. Disabled variations will not be displayed on the site front-end and customers will not be able to purchase them.

Step 4 – Update product layouts to reflect the variations

When inventory control is enabled, the following product tags change their behavior to take advantage of the new functionality:

- horizontal – display attributes horizontally
- hideDisabledVariations – true or false
- autoSelectFirstVariation – true or false
{tag_instock, syncWithAttributes, noSelectionMessage, disabledSelectionMessage}
- syncWithAttributes – true or false
- noSelectionMessage – specify the message displayed when site customer has not selected a variation;
- disabledSelectionMessage – specify the message displayed when site customer has selected a variation that is disabled
{tag_onorder, syncWithAttributes, noSelectionMessage, disabledSelectionMessage}
- syncWithAttributes – true or false
- noSelectionMessage – specify the message displayed when site customer has not selected a variation;
- disabledSelectionMessage – specify the message displayed when site customer has selected a variation that is disabled;
{tag_productcode, syncWithAttributes, noSelectionMessage, disabledSelectionMessage} – with variations enabled, tag product code will render the variation code instead of product codes in all layout where it is used; additionally, we’ve added three new parameters:
- syncWithAttributes – true or false
- noSelectionMessage – specify the message displayed when site customer has not selected a variation;
- disabledSelectionMessage – specify the message displayed when site customer has selected a variation that is disabled;

The product layouts will require some updates to make the best use out of variation information: e.g. change {tag_instock} attribute in product layout to {tag_instock, true} to synchronize its value to the stock level of the selected variation. Use the syntax above to create your personalized product page.

Example - display the variation stock with customized messages when selection is invalid; display the product attributes as drop-downs, including the disabled variations.

For those that need more flexibility when creating the product layout, we have created 5 additional tags that will output a JSON format that you can customize using JavaScript:

Step 5 – Play with it and share your feedback

You’re almost there. Now you can go ahead and purchase products, view orders, view reports and share your experience.

Importing and exporting products

In our December release, we are going to update the existing import engine so that it support product with variations. Thus, we will be updating the product import template to add three additional columns to accomodate products with variations. These columns are optional so that customers do not have to update their existing import files if they don't use variations.

Note: while the feature will be in beta turned off, the product export will not include these additional columns.

Overview

Three new columns will be added at the end of the import file:

"Variation Code" :
1. Expected values: empty for products, string with the variation code when the line is a product variation
2. Default value: empty
"Variation Options":
1. Expected values: product option names (ex: Red, Small, V-Neck); the must be entered in the same order the they are defined for product attributes
2. Default value: empty
"Use Variations":
1. Possible values: Y or N
2. Default value: N
3. Products with variations will need to have this set to Y
4. Variations will have this cell empty

Please check the attached Product_Variations_Import_File.xls file for a sample import template.

Export behavior

Products without variations:

only Use Variations column has value N

Products with variations:

will output one row for the master product and one row for each associated variation
master product will have Use Variations: Y
each variation will have
- Product Code: the code of the master product
- In Stock, On Order, Variation Code - the corresponding values set on the variation
- Variation Options: the options that form the variations separated by semicolon (the order is that of the attributes as they appear in Attributes filed)

Import behavior

A variation row is one that have Variation Options not empty and Product Code not empty. The product code identifies the master product and the variation options identify the variation within that product.

The variations are processed always after the master product. A variation row only updates an existing variation (the master product must have variations enabled and the corresponding options must exist in keep stock attributes).

Create a product with variations

Add the keep stock on each attribute that keep stock: Size*|5|Y :Small|,Medium|,Large|;Color*|5|Y:Red|,Blue|,Green|
Use Variations: Y
Update each variation details by using the Variation Options as a key

Update a product with variations

keep stock on attributes cannot be changed on a product that has variations enabled (if an attempt is made there will be an error)
every variation that appear in the table will be updated using Variation Options as a key
in stock, on order will be ignored for the master product

Remove variations from a product

Use Variations: N
if there are variations in the table that point to that product they will be ignored

SOAP APIs updates

With the December release, we are also updating our eCommerce and CRM SOAP APIs to add support for products with variations when managing products and orders. We have added additional properties to accomodate support for product variations.

You can find attached a sample of the updates WSDL for review - eCommerceandCRMWebServices.zip.

What’s missing and known issues

While this release does include a complete end to end workflow for managing inventory for products with attributes from the admin user interface, there are still some workflows missing, as well as some minor known issues we plan to fix before officially releasing this feature. Go through the list below for more details:

Inventory control for product attributes is only available on the new admin user interface;
The "hideDisabledVariations" parameter of the {tag_attributes} tag causes JavaScript errors in Internet Explorer 8 when selecting attributes from the attributes dropdowns in the product details layouts;
Editing and saving an attribute that is displayed as a drop-down list using Internet Explorer 8 will cause a JavaScript error in the new admin interface, the Product Attributes tab;

Where to report issues

Please use this thread to post your feedback or requests about this feature. We would like to have it as open discussion about what's currently in the release, and what is absolutely required to make it work for you.

Note: Beta features are not officially supported and we do not offer a guaranteed response time. We usually respond within the next 48 to 72 hours, but this might vary depending on the team load and issue urgency.

Accepting eftpos payments

Hi.

Can anyone please assist in advising how my client can collect eftpos card details and allow the user to purchase their products? They don't have an eftpos machine. They do have a current payment gateway to process online transactions via their website, but that only allows for credit card / COD etc options.

Ideally, when a customer walks into their shop, they'd like to be able to take down their eftpos card details and enter them into the system to allow them to purchase their products. Is this possible?

Remove product from cart AND go to catalog with 1 button

How can I modify the remove item from cart button to also go to a catalog when the item is removed on click?

Here's the button:

I used javascript to change the text to "Continue Shopping" and changed the href value from "#" to "/all-ttha-gear".

This link is being displayed in a modal when a user drops the shopping cart total below $40. I want them to click continue shopping and have it remove the bonus item from the cart.

As the a tag is displayed above, it removes the correct product but stays on the same page.

Any thoughts?

Stop cash payment method showing order as paid in receipt and orders list

If I use the cash payment method (or EFT or cheque) the order and receipt show as paid when they are still pending payment.

Further, when I go to manually pay the system says that it is already paid.

I don't want this to happen. How do I fix it or is it a bug?

Product Filtering on Ecommerce Site

Does anyone have a good solution to provide product filtering for an online store??

The {tag_browsepanel} is too simple and only allows for price search. Would like a similar function to occur, but based off of assigned categories that would be assigned to the different products.

The client needs filters set up for criteria such as:

Color
Product
Size
Material
Price
Manufacturer

Would liquid be any help in this? Is there any known plugin that works efficiently with BC?

Can BC do Multi Domain eCommerce like Magento?

Hey there, we're locked into a pitch against a Magento crew. The client wants a multi domain ecommerce solution like www.Wag.com, using different domains but a single shopping cart and back end. Does anyone have examples of where BC has been used as a multi domain ecommerce solution? Any advice? The client wants a low maintenance solution, I think BC is perfect for that just need examples of where BC has worked as a multi domain solution.

Can I set the BC website to only display certain products to visitors residing in certain countries?
Can I set the BC website to display different prices and currencies to visitors residing in certain countries. (I'd assume that I can apply the appropriate currency, but can I set the specific price too)?
Can I have the same website, display a different country domain based on where it is accessed from?

Ecommerce invoicing and tax caluclations for multinational stores where all prices are stored as rrp with tax included

We have a client that has a large ecommerce store with around 900 products.

The below scenario is stumping us and have found only one real work around but it requires using 3rd party apps to do the invoicing.

Any suggestions from Partners or devs that have a similar issue would be greatly approciated.

Taxation – Current prices include tax, need pricing schedule for countries

Currency 1 is $AUD and GST tax rate. Prices to be entered as inc tax. Tax deduction to calculate back from RRP
Currency 2 is £GBP and VAT rate. Prices to be entered as inc tax. Tax deduction to calculate back from RRP
Sub domains needed for each currency
Deduct the tax for none tax countries
Calculating or reporting on tax amounts for BAS

Comments

Potential is TWO currencies. Each to have RRP entered manually.
Which currency displays will depend on where customer access to website is from. AU will show for all world initially, later to be broken down as AU (for AU, NZ, Oceania, Asia,) £GBP, for rest of the world Deductions automatic for all consumer retail purchases when customer is outside

Testing
- using discount code hidden in shopping cart to detect country from drop down and then removing tax from rrp (or using JS to detect url and adding code automatically, this has been tested and is working)
- invoicing for different countries to be different
- using the api to remove the tax for non tax countries
- using api to retrieve tax summary

So far the solution we are suggesting but there might be issues with syncing with a server hosted Myob Accounting package

Accounting package - MYOB is Account right plus. Just downloading V2014.16.7861
BC shop has about 900 products
Options for syncing data
- http://myob.com.au/addons/listing/41/transpost/
- http://www.onesaas.com/integrate/myobaccountright-with-businesscatalyst (looklike this might not work with server hosted)

Systems restrictions that we can’t get around

Invoicing - for some reason there is only one system invoice, if this was not the case we could easily set up different invoice formatting and content for each region and apply appropriate tax calculation.

Proposed set up based on findings

based on extensive consultation with Business Catalyst, reference material and testing the following configuration and management is the best solution and in some cases the only available solution to satisfy the criteria set out above.

Sub domains for regions

3 regions should be set up UK, AUS and Rest of the world. UK and Rest of the world should use subdomains while Australia would use the default domain. UK.dccconcepts.com, world.dccconcepts.com and dccconcepts.com

Displaying different currencies

Subdomains and using country drop down in the shop to direct people to the correct currency symbol and pricing.

Deducting tax from rest of the world.

As the discount system is not in use we are able to create a script that will deduct the required amount when shoppers are in this region by checking the url they are on and applying the discount. Their order total would then reflect price with the deducted amount.

Invoicing

As every order is checked manually we are proposing that the system invoice is modified to show the order total and explain that a sales invoice will be sent out once the order is finalised with tax, shipping and order modifications if required.

The order informatiuon would be sent to the accounting package via onesaas.com sync up

Or http://myob.com.au/addons/listing/41/transpost/ ( this would be a more manual process but looks like the better option for syncing with a server based myob)

You can then apply your tax, shipping and amendments and add tax exempt labels just like you do now with server hosted package to the level of detail you wish.

Reporting BAS would then be as per your normal account process.

What I find very frustration is that eCommerce is supposed to be multi currency , muti national but simple things like have a different invoice for each region created like they have with a separate shopping cart for each region and VAT, BAS and tax reporting a fundimental activity for business in all countries is lacking

Again any incites or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

C.O.D option in eCommerce cart

So I am helping a friend design an eCommerce store for their rising business, but I have run into some trouble that I am hoping is an easy fix.

If you follow this link: Online Store

You will see that my custom template is showing properly. (this is the catalog page)

- But once you click on the picture to view the individual item page, it is having trouble showing the template and tells me "Some files on the server may be missing or incorrect."

I have been scratching my head for an hour now and I need to move along to styling the pages and adding the rest of the products.

Just a side note, I did make this template using Muse.

Hi There,

I'm using business catalyst and am trying to create a slider for my webpage that pulls in products by tag using {module_productfeaturelist} tag.

This is the example of my code:

The problem that I am having is that Business catalyst outputs its own Ul and Li list e.g the copy marked orange below is Business catalyst generated code from my above snippet

Bulleted lists in a Custom Field for products

A customer wants products with a bulleted list separate of the product description (to be able to place it on another section of the Large Product Display.) My solution was to place the information in one of the 4 custom fields, like so:

<ul><li>Excellent performance and durability.</li><li> Top-quality design.</li><li> Made of 100% leather.</li></ul>

I know this to work in HTML, but the bullets do not display in BC. The items break into lines, but no bullets.

Can it be done in a custom field, or is placing the bullet list in the description the only way BC can read the HTML code?

Affiliate commissions

I need to set up an affiliate program, but I can not see to get it to work, and have some questions -

I set up an affiliate program.

I set up an affiliate and added a percentage.

I used the link supplied to go to the website, and enter a different customer and email address

I set up product and order (under product I also added under "more options" a commission payment percentage - trying to make it work, when the first did not.

1) After entering an order, I go below to Commissions, but it tells me that commissions are disabled, and for the life of me I can't see how to enable them.

Anyone know how to enable commissions?

2) In the BC guides -

Commissions apply to orders made by customers on your online shop after clicking an affiliate referral link.

Note: Affiliate commissions for purchases can only be tracked correctly when using a seamless payment gateway or PayPal standard.

Now the intention was for the client to send out Affiliate links, and they were going to enter the orders manually to create the trail of commission payments. No intention of using the shop or any payment gateway - they just want to use the affiliate program.

Does that mean that it just won't work as it needs a payment gateway?

3) I go to the clients details, but can't find the referrer details.

Am I missing something, or they are not shown?

If I go to the referrer, their activity just shows someone used their link, and does not even show the client. Should it now show the client details.

Clutching at straws, until I have to tell the client, Affiliate programs as advertised won't work, unless you have a gateway! and without that gateway is there is no possible way to identify the affiliate or their client.

Viewing Products is delayed

Hi BC team,

I was wondering if there was a system or database update recently because as of the 1st of July, about the same time both yesterday and today, our website is taking about 10 times the amount of time to load a product page.

I've checked our analytics and there aren't a lot of people visiting the website so I dont think it's due to an overload of users.

Both times it has been in the afternoon, about GMT + 10hrs, 16:00

Is there a backup done at this time of day? Is this something we can check?

Can you please advise?

Is it possible that the Product Stock Quantity (In Stock) not to be updated on Add to Cart event or when the basket still exist?

And the updates/decrease of quantity will only happen when the customer have successfully paid or checked out.

Catalog Discounts Automatically Setup

My client wants to be able to offer customers Catalog Discounts in there E-Commerce Shop. This is possible by letting a customer sign up for an account and then going into the Manage Cutomer Subscriptions area in the backend and manually adding a % to each catalog.

My question is is there any way to do this automatically when a user sign up for there account? (i.e. apply 10% discount to certain categories for anyone that signs up to a certain Secure Zone?). Not sure if this is possible through basic forms or if in theory possible through API?

moving from secure urls to non secure urls

I have a simple shopping cart with a that takes the client to a secure url with the payment form which is fine until my client surfs away from that secure page. The problem being they are now usint the secure url wherever they go in the site, even for non secure pages. Support suggested that i just make the links in my forms absolute which seems to work. I just wanted to check that this is the best way to fix this problem. I seem to remeber other solutions mentioned in the past. thanks for any help

Stop recurring orders sending out invoices (invoices go from Quickbooks - not BC)

Our client needs to create subscription orders in BC against a client, these recur once a month. BC automatically creates and emails an invoice against these orders. However the client wants to use Quickbooks for their accounts to create and send the actual invoice, and BC simply as a CRM system. BC is automatically creating and sending invoices every month for the clients against the order raised in BC - effectively duplicate invoices of the Quickbooks invoice - which we do not want to have sent out.

Can the automated invoicing be switched off in BC or is there a way around this.

On my shop template i have an contentholder with this {module_shoppingcartsummary template="/ModuleTemplates/shoppingcartsummary.tpl"}.

I want the shoppingcartsummary to show something like this instead of the default layout :

Within my shoppingcartsummary.tpl I still have the default layout:

and it all works fine but I need the shoppingcartsummary to behave like a "light-weight" shoppingcart that just give the customer an easy way to see whats inside the shoppingcart (and delete items) without having to leave the page he is on. I cant use the shoppingcart tags inside the shoppingcartsummary.tpl but perhaps someone knows how I can use {tag_productimage} etc in this layout?

Adjusting attribute costs based on quantity

Hi all,

Is it possible to adjust attribute costs based on the quantity of a product?

For example, if the product was a hat, and there was an embroidery option as an attribute for an additional £5, is there a way to make that attribute £8 if the customer selects 2 hats, and £10 if the customer selects 3 and so on?

I want to create an ecommerce site where a registered client will access to his specific selected product list to pass frequent orders...

In fact client are regroup in types of clients and there is catalog and list of product depending on the type.

How to do that on BC ?

The ideal, will be that when a client return to purchase that after login a list of favorite articles appears from the global list type where he can select quantities to order and then validate all the order at once...

I am considering to use BC for web shop to sell printed products. I would like to add a feature that customer can choose printing size and server side script would count final price of the product.

I am now choosing a platform for my e-commerce but I do not know enough if BC is a good platform for developers? Is it possible to add this kind of features with BC API?

I have a client who would really like to offer percentage-based shipping to his wholesale customers, but as far as I can tell it's simply not an option. Does anyone else have any experience in this area, or possibly a work-around? I don't even mind looking into a custom BC app if this can be accomplished.

BTW, is percentage-based shipping a common offering on other e-commerce platforms?

Quickbooks Integration

Hi Adobe Community,

I have a problem when trying to integrate Quickbooks with a Business Catalyst site.

Both the Web Connector and Business Catalyst gives me the following error:

Error message received from application via getLastError(): The Selling account in your site is not synchronized to your QuickBooks version and affecting the Orders sync process. Please contact Business Catalyst support to clear these records and refer your site ID # 1224961. If the message does not help much, please review the qbsdklog.txt file (Intuit\QuickBooks\).

I have tried Help and Support but obviously they have limited resources when it comes to E-Commerce.

Please help me sort this out if any person can.

Paypal entering information twice

Test Country Specific Shipping Options

Hi guys,

Is there a way to test region specific shipping options?
I've got it set up so anything in Australia is free shipping, Asia Pacific is a charge, then all other international orders another charge again.

I've set this up within the shipping options, but if the free shipping is loaded for my area it doesn't bring up any of the options, and I just want to know if I can make sure it's going to load the other shipping options for the specific countries.

Reaching out to everyone and anyone to help with this. Has anyone had any luck (in British Columbia) dealing with PST Exemption for Youth product? More specifically if a product has a full tax item (12%) and a Youth Exempt Item (5%) in the cart, at the same time.

As you know, if you add to British Columbia Tax Codes (BC-12% and BC-5%) and you have product in your cart, like the above mentioned - the Destination State overrides any product level Tax Codes.

Looking for some help with this one.

quantity discount thresholds

Presently, when I select the Enable Volume Discount tick-box ...

Quantity Threshold 2: and Sell Price 2: and

Quantity Threshold 3: and Sell Price 3: fields are displayed.

Our existing eCommerce facility allows us to have up to five thresholds (six prices levels in total) per each line item.

Is it possible to similarly expand the number of Quantity Thresholds in Business Catalyst?

Collecting payments via web form with drop down $ choices

Hi:

I have a client who has a simple web form to collect payments - but it is a text field (asking the person to enter their own amount). We were hoping to change this over to a drop down (offering a few choices to people, $5, $20, $50 and up), but I am not sure how to convert this field over and still have it be recognized as currency. Is this something I can do through BC, or would I need to have the gateway do it (which in this case is EWay)? Thanks in advance for steering me in the right direction.

When using any of this tag, coordinates are displaying less characters than google needs to resolve the addres causing a location error.

I'm trying to set up my catalog and it's only displaying 12 items per page leaving me with 13 pages of items. Is there any way for me to have it display 60 items per page or something similar?

I got it to display 6 items across using {tag_productlist,6} but can't get it to display a set amount vertically.

I have a client who wants to be on skroutz and I am a bit lost.

From what I know skroutz needs the product list in xml format, this shouldn't be an issue, but, what else is necessary to integrate this list into skroutz?

Is it possible to accomplish this with BC or should I tell the client to move to another platform?

Been reading the skroutz doc and wasn't really helpful.

Could anyone please give me any guide lines?

Apply tax to an event booking invoice?

Is there any way to apply tax to an invoice for an event booking out of the standard module?

At the moment my client is having to generate an invoice in-house for customers requiring a tax invoice. I'd like to be able to get them to use the invoice in BC but the tax is always at $0. using the e-commerce module is not an option as there are too many variables (accreditation levels, mulitples, discounts etc).

I have build the site http://www.amrrc.com/ using the Min Tech template (http://www.bcgurus.com/template/mintech-electronics).

In the shop (http://www.amrrc.com/online-shop) I have tried to integrate the clients Paypal account using the option in the admin - PayPal Website Standard.

The order transfers to paypal with the correct information, but when paid for (at current I am using the Sandbox testing environment) no information of a transaction is registered within the paypal portal.

I realise this is more of a Paypal issue, but I just ask if anyone else has had this issue and am I setting it up correctly. In the old website the client used to just use paypal buttons, which worked fine but I am trying to utilise the shop within the Min Tech template.

How to set 'default' company record for a contact record for invoice?

I have a contact record with numerous relationships to company records.

Although their current work address can be stored on the contact record, their current company isn't stored on their contact.

When producing an invoice for any of their orders, it's showing the first company from the list of related companies; not the one just entered on the checkout form?

How do I ensure that the invoice for a new order makes use of the company record that's just been entered?
