An Error Occured on BC sites

Secure Zone Login failure best practice?

Hi all,

What is BC's reccomended way of handling incorrect logins? Is there a way I can validate with an AJAX response before redirecting users where they need to go? At this minute, my login goes through to an access denied page if the login is incorrect, which is different to the login page itself.

Is there a way I can simply stay on the same page, or validate and return to the same page with BC? And along with that, have the login inputs be the same as when you pressed login.

Any help is appreciated!

Disallow Spaces in Image Names

Hi,

There is a long running problem with Business Catalyst at this moment in time - it allows spaces in file uploads.

This is a severe problem and simply shouldn't be allowed in any modern CMS.

If I give an isolated example, I recently helped a client of mine launch an Email Campaign from their CP. Everything appears fine in all browsers, however in Gmail, images with spaces in simply break.

This comes down to our client uploading images with spaces in, which suffice to say we have told them not to do. It's easy to say we should tell our clients to do this however this will not do. It is simply a requirement of all CMS' in this day an age as files with spaces in will almost always cause problems somewhere.

Before I carry on ranting, is there a way for me to enable a requirement for spaces in file uploads?

If not, this feature needs to be implemented.

Web App Submission Security.

Hi All,

Just a quick once, but a worrying one.

What are business catayst's security measures for web app submissions? I am just building an app allowing one of my client's customers to submit web app items when logged in. And while the submissions are being moderated before being accepted and put online, I do worry for the security. We can do a certain amount to filter what is being submitted client-side, but as we all know it takes very little to disable javascript and overide that completely.

The main thing I am worried for is script injection, for example if I posted:

Hi, I'm Andrew making a fake enquiry that your client will think is okay and happily accept, woo!

Now clearly having a script file injected into the page is bad, bad news, considering what you could do with that.

What kind of security measures does Business Catalyst have in place to prevent this? There is nothing we can do client-side.

Secondary Emails?

I've noticed that the email field is labeled as Email 1 (Primary), but I can't seem to find a default Secondary email.

I can implement it with the extended CRM, but am I missing something here?

Is there already a secondary email implemented?

Custom CRM form field not updating/showing

Hi,

I've got a problem with my user details form. I've created a user details form, by inserting one onto a page and then taking that form's markup, as there doesn't seem to be a proper way to insert these forms. In any case, everything appears to be working correctly for everything else except one form field, which is a new one I just created.

I've attached the html for this below.

Is there something I'm missing? I've added some data in on the CRM and it still doesn't show anything. Yet this is the module reference the add to page is giving consistently and is correct looking at the references on the CRM Custom Form.

Getting rid of BC's detail code

Hi,

I'm loading in a web app item detail page using AJAX, but what I am finding is BC is adding it's own code not inside the detail layout template I have created. Namely, linking stylesheets such as the module stylesheet and such.

How do I go about getting rid of that?

Web App Detail layouts loading in via AJAX with specified template

Any help is appreciated with this one.

I have a system running, that essentially is your standard list and detail view Web App. Currently, when a list item is clicked on it loads up a lightbox that is populated with javascript. The JavaScript gets the data for that population through hidden fields in the list items content. However, this is beginning to get a bit ridiculous for continuous upgrades and is generally a bad idea. Ideally, the best way to be doing this would be to load the content in through AJAX. With the dynamic nature of web apps, this is difficult. At first thought you would want to load it in like a detail page (i.e. www.website.com/webapp/detail-item-name) however, the detail page layout is being used for the detail page, which has the entire site's template applied to it. What I would like to do is load the item as a list item, with my specific AJAX tpl template. For example a way of doing this would be to do this:

www.website.com/webapp/detail-item-name?template=ajax.tpl

Of course it's never that simple.

The original september announcement mentioned that multiple detail templates was not supported. However is there a system or functionality that I am missing here that would help greatly in creating a system like this?
