How do I adjust a symbol's scale using code?

Per user input, I'd like to adjust the scale, position, etc. of this symbol (which is just a white sphere that bounces on using the animation in it's own timeline).

How do I address scale, position, opacity, etc. attributes of my symbol via the code, and where can I find a good, solid reference on syntax? I keep bouncing into jquery libraries, which I don't yet really understand how to implement. I'm missing that reference manual that defines all the functions we have at our disposal.

Thanks for any input.

Question about "this". Scope problem?

Hi there. I don't understand what's not working correctly
when I try to dynamically call a movie clip from a function. For
example, this doesn't work: (see first attached code).

I'm guessing the "this" in the call to play is getting stuck
referring to the function, instead of the timeline. But it works if
I have a leading _mc in the call, such as
graphics["b"+count].gotoAndPlay("intro");

How do I refer to the timeline where this code is by using [
] ? Should I be using eval instead? Should I always send out to a
new function? What's the best practice?

I've figured out workarounds, like calling a new function and
passing the reference (see second code block), but I'd like to know
if there's a best way to do this.

Thanks for the help,
Greg Neumayer

CS3 Video Encoder not as good as FLIX?

I had the disturbing experience yesterday of having to ask my
client to encode their own flv for me to use. They had given me a
QT file, which for whatever reason, had a glitch in it that
prevented it from properly encoding on my stock CS3 video encoder
software. They don't have Flash, and are on a PC (I'm mac). They
encoded it using their Flix encoder, and talked about the newest
version ("S" or something like that). Case in
point, their flv worked and mine didn't. (Mine was playing fine,
but something in the metadata was getting goofed and not throwing
an end-of-file status flag for me to capture. So, I couldn't get
the program to automatically close the video and move on.) I
checked for an update to my CS3 encoder, which simply took me to
the basic "Adobe software update" software, which
suggested a few other updates that I'm assuming are irrelevant to
Flash. (Reader, Version Cue, Bridge, StartMeeting, After Effects).

So, my lengthy intro leads me to the question, "Is
my stock CS3 flv encoder not the best thing for encoding
(On2).?"
Is there an update or better solution I'm not aware of?

Thanks,
Greg
