Enable Single Window Mode in Acrobat 9

Please re-enable the Single Window (MDI) Mode in Acrobat 9 as it is an un welcome user experience of having dozens of Acrobat windows open in the taskbar. I can suggest to have either of the following:-

1. Give an option to the user whether to open the multiple or single Acrobat windows as is the case with Acrobat 8 with "Preferences->Documents->Show Each document in its own window"

2. Introduce tabbed browsing in Acrobat similar to the one implemented in IE 7.0 to have multiple PDFs opened in a single Acrobat window.

How to properly release the Acroform OLE Automation objects with Visual C++

While releasing the Acroform OLE Automation objects for classes AFormApp and Field, we are getting ASSERT failure in dbgheap.c method _CrtIsValidHeapPointer. Below is the code for the same.

The ASSERT failure (screenshot below) is coming at the statement delete pFields; However if am using the method pFields.Release, it works fine. Similar issue is coming with release of AFormApp objects. Can anyone throw some light on why this strange behavior is happening and the proper way to release Acroform OLE Automation objects?

How to resolve Invalid Color Space error with IE ?

We are in the progress of upgrading to Acrobat 9.3.4. We have approximately 1400 fillable PDF templates in our repository, and are getting an error displaying 10 of these forms after upgrading to Acrobat 9.3.4. The error is:

"There was an error processing a page. Invalid ColorSpace." All the forms were created with Adobe InDesign, then embellished with fillable form fields using Acrobat 7. From reading other posts, this seems to point to a corrupt PDF, but we do not believe this to be the case and we believe this is a bug in Acrobat 9. Here is what we've witnessed to back up this conclusion...

1.) The problem only occurs when displaying the PDF from within an Internet Explorer browser window (both IE6 & IE8). It does not occur if we simply open the PDF from the file system within Acrobat.

2.) The problem is random and not consistent. We usually get the error, but sometimes it opens fine.

3.) When the problem occurs, we're able to view the PDF by right clicking on the PDF and toggling the "Resolution" settings in the Page Display Preferences (either toggle from 96 to custom, or change the custom number). However, this is not an acceptable long-term workaround for our end users.

4.) We've tried recreating the PDF by opening it up in Acrobat 9 and doing a "save as...". The problem still occurs with the resulting PDF (we have not yet tried altering any other Acrobat options).

5.) The problem does not occur when opened in the browser with earlier versions of Acrobat (7.x for example).

Please provide any update you may have on this issue.

Enter domain names or wild cards in Trust Manager

Hi,

One of my application accesses pdfs stored on a server to populate data and display to the user. With enhanced security turned on by default(9.3.2 onwards), we added the server name e.g. www.x.example.com to the Privileged Locations. However, since application resides on multiple systems (approx 5000), any changes to server (e.g. name) will mean changing all 5000 systems. To avoid these changes, we tried generalizing the server name using wildcards as listed in IE (list of trusted sites) like www.*.example.com. However, Adobe is not recognizing wildcards even if "Automatically trust sites from my Win OS security zones" is checked.

Please let me know any option of generalizing the privileged location entry e.g. www.example.com or www.*.example.com when pdf resides on www.x.example.com or www.y.example.com

Am currently using Acrobat 9.x on Windows XP SP2.

Document certification becoming INVALID after Ctrl+F in Acrobat 9. Possible bug?

Am using document certifcation to protect my application Pdfs. Have came across an issue where in the document certification is getting invalid. AM also able to reproduce the error by working with pdfs outside my application. Below are the steps

1. Create a Pdf with 1 text field. Put some default value in the field e.g. Testing

2. Certify the document using File->Save As Certified Document

3. Close and Re-open the document. There is a document message bar on top with text "This document is certified......"

4. Press Ctrl+F and search for the value in the text field (say Test). The searched text is highlighted & selected.

5. Go to Advanced->Sign & Certify->Validate All Signatures.

6. The Certifying signature becomes crossed out and the message bar changes to "Certification is invalid"

Has someone come across this issue or Any idea why this is happening?

Formatting changes on clicking inside the fields. Is this expected?

Recently came up with a formatting issue in Acrobat 9 where in if we click on some PDF fields (filled with comma separated values e.g 1,234,567.00) and comma (,) is removed automatically (e.g. 1234567). However, the format reverts back on clicking on outside of this PDF field.

This issue only appears in the PDF fields where field level formatting has been set to convert the numeric text passed from code.

This is happening only when the select tool is selected (Tools->Select & Zoom->Select Tool), not with the hand tool (Tools->Select & Zoom->Hand Tool).

Error while opening a Pdf in Acrobat 9.3.4

Am getting the below error message while opening any pdf on Citrix (built on Windows 2003 Server) with Acrobat 9.3.4.

Has anyone else also seen the same? and how to resolve the same?

Signature status not coming correct during silent printing. Bug?

Am using javascript inside my plugin to get the signature status in Acrobat 9.3. Below is the code.

This is working fine, except during slient printing. Everytime including normal print, am getting the status as '4' i.e. signed which is correct.

However, while printing silently in Acrobat either via code or manually by Right-clicking on the pdf in Explorer and selectting Print, am getting '1' i.e. unknown status for signed signature fields.

Have also tried executing the menu item "Advanced->Sign & Certify->Validate All Signatures" before trying to get the status but am getting the same result.

Please let me know if anyone else has also experienced the same issue and what is the cause/resolution of the same or this is a bug in Acrobat?

Acrobat 9.3.2 Pdf opening without data. Is this a bug ?

In previous versions till Acrobat 9.3.1, opening a fdf file containing data would open the corresponding pdf with data already populated.

However in 9.3.2, pdf opens without data. Below are steps to create sample Pdf and Fdf to reproduce the issue

1. Create a pdf file with 2 text fields and save the same.

2. Populate some data in them and generate the corresponding FDF by exporting the data from the menu Forms->Manage Form Data->Export Data.

2. Close the Pdf without saving.

3. Now double click the fdf created in step 2. Pdf opens without the data.

4. Repeat the step 3 in Acrobat 9.3.1, Pdf opens with data populated.

Let me know how to attach my sample Pdf and Fdf as attachments are not allowed in this mail.

Has anyone else also experienced the same issue and whether this is a bug in Acrobat 9.3.2?

Open Acrobat directly in minimized mode

C++ example to use Acroform OLE Automation

Can anyone provide me with an example for using the Acroform OLE Automation objects AFormApp, Fields and Field. The only examples provided with the SDK are for VB or C#.

When I use CreateDispatch to instantiate AFormApp object in C++, am getting a compilation error saying CreateDispatch is not a member of the class. Please let me know if the implementation has changed with Acrobat 9 SDK and I need to use it differently.

We need to run a plug-in compiled with Acrobat 9 SDK under Acrobat 7. However, when I copy my plugin to the Acrobat 7 plug-ins directory and open Acrobat, it gives an error saying Plug-in is incompatible with this version of Acrobat.

Please let me know how can we enable the plug-in to work in Acrobat 7.

How to Disable right click pop-up menu items.

I am disabling some menu items when opening my application specific Pdfs. However, the same menu items are enabled again in right click pop-up context menu anywhere in the document. Can someone let me know how to disable specific menu items in the right click menu? Also, is there any possibility to disable the entire right click poop-up menu in my Pdf?.

Possible bug in Acrobat 9.1.1?

I encountered a possible bug in 9.1.1. Below are steps:

1. Select the option "Always hide forms document message bar" in the Edit->Preferences to Hide the Document Message bar coming on top of document

2. The Message bar disappears.

3. Close and Re-open the Pdf.

4. The message bar again comes on top.

5. Go to Edit->Preferences. The option is still selected.

Please advise whether this is a bug or am missing something.

Able to install Acrobat 9.1 over the pre-release build

I am able to install Acrobat 9.1 over the pre-release build, however, the release notes say otherwise i.e. to un-install the pre-release build before installing the 9.1 release. Let me know whether to log a bug for the same.

Reason for Error "No form is open in Acrobat Viewer"

Am trying to use the AcroForms plug-in using IAC in VC++ to populate fields by opening PDFs in memory. The method PDDoc->OpenAVDoc is bringing the Acrobat window in front. If I comment this method, am getting the error "No form is Open in Acrobat Viewer". Below is my code

How to open PDF in Acrobat 9 without displaying the Acrobat window

Am using IAC in Windows XP via VC++ to open and modify PDFs in memory without displaying the Acrobat window so as to the PDF Processing in the background. To open the PDF, have to call the method PDDoc.OpenAVDoc which opens the Acrobat window for displaying the document.

As a workaround, I tried to minimize and hide the Acrobat viewer, using the AcroApp.Minimize and AcroApp.Hide methods. However opening, minimizing and hiding the viewer is creating a flickering effect (Acrobat window coming and going) especially when a no of PDFs have to be processed in a loop.

If I use only PDDoc.Open without the call to OpenAVDoc, am getting an error "No form is open in the Acrobat viewer".

Can anyone suggest a workaround to open and process PDFs in memory without displaying the PDF.

Install/Un-install problem

To install Acrobat 8.1.3, one needs to install all the prior Acrobat 8 updates i.e. 8.1, 8.1.1 and 8.1.2 one by one before proceeding to install 8.1.3. Also, a restart is required after installing each one of them.
This is very tedious and takes lot of time.

However, there is only one Acrobat version displayed in the Add/Remove Programs implying that un-installing one patch un-installs full Acrobat from the system.

Please comeup with a single patch to install all the updates in one go and also provide an option to un-install the patches separately instead of full Acrobat.

Registry key to Hide Document Message Bar not working in Acrobat 9

In Acrobat 7, am hiding the Document Message bar on top of every PDF document by setting the registry key
i HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\9.0\FormsPrefs\bHideDocumentMessageBar.

However, same key is not hiding the message bar in Acrobat 9. Please let me know what is the key in Acrobat 9.

Able to clear signatures in a certified document in Acrobat 9.0

While testing Acrobat 9.0 feasibility for migrating my application from Acrobat 7.0, I stumbled upon a security issue that the signatures can be cleared in a certified document (Only Form Fill in and digital signatures are allowed) by right clicking and selecting Clear
Signature. After clearing the signature, the document status still remains valid i.e. it doesn't gets invalid even if the signature is cleared. Below are the steps to reproduce the same.

1. Certify a document having couple of signature fields by selecting Certify with Visible Signature and
i "Form fill-in and digital signatures"
as the Permitted Actions after Certifying.
2. Close and re-open the document.
3. Sign a signature field.
4. Close and re-open the document. Right click on the signed signature field and select Clear Signature.
5. Save the document, close and re-open the same. The signature is cleared
and the document status is valid.

This behavior is different from Acrobat 7.0 where
A) User is unable to clear a signature in a certified document
B) Even if he somehows clears the signature, the document certification becomes invalid.

Also, if you right click on the certifying signature in Step 4 above, it also can get cleared.

This behavior of clearing the signatures in a certified document nullifies the purpose of a certified document to prevent users from changing a document. Also, the option of locking the signature during the certification process is missing in Acrobat 9.

Please let me know whether this is a bug or expected behavior.

gHWND coming Null in Acrobat 8

Am using the condition if (NULL != gHWND) to check whether document has been loaded in Acrobat and is visible.

This is working in Acrobat 7 Standard/Professional However, in Acrobat 8 Standard/Professional gHWND is coming NULL even after the document is opened causing the condition to fail.

Please suggest whether the functionality of gHWND has changed or what needs to be checked to determine whether the document has been opened and window is visible.

SDK Compatibility

We're planning our migraton to Acrobat 8, and prefer to do phased rollouts whenever possible to minimize risk and avoid synchronization issues with the other applications on the same platform that also integrate with Acrobat.

Thus, we would like to understand whether we can compile our code with the Acrobat 8 SDK, and continue to run that code with the Acrobat 7 software. ie....we realize that we need to have conditional logic in the code before performing any Acrobat 8 specific functionality (such as disabling new toolbars, menu items, etc...), however we just wanted confirmation whether all the "core" functionality is backward compatible to 7, and that this is a "supported" configuration (compiling with 8, but running under 7).

Acrobat error CryptAcquireContext

We are getting a strange error CryptAcquireContext Failed <Error Code> in Acrobat 7.0 when using the same on Citrix platform. Error code on opening the document is 80090024 and that after signing the document is -2146893788. Please let me know what does CryptAcquireContext used for and why is it failing. We are trying to use Acrobat on Citrix platform and have installed the same in C:\Apps instead of the default location C:\Program Files\

Text is automatically adjusted to a lower pt font in Acrobat 8 than in Acrobat 7 for text fields having font size as "Auto".

Steps to reproduce bug:
1. Create a text field say 'Text1' in Acrobat 7.03 Professional with the following properties: Font Size = 'Auto', Font = 'Times Bold', Height = '0.12 inch', Width = '2.67inch', BorderColor = 'NoColor', FillColor = 'NoColor' and TextColor ="Black".
2. Enter the text 'PruTrackULThreeEAFCont'in the field 'Text1'. The font size is automatically adjusted to approx 6.5pt font.
3. Empty the field, save and close the form.
4. Now, open the form in Acrobat 8.0 Professional/Standard and again enter the text 'PruTrackULThreeEAFCont' in the field 'Text1'. The font size is automatically adjusted to approx 5.8pt font unlike 6.5pt font with Acrobat 7.03.

Results: Behavior of Auto Font property is different in Acrobat 7 and Acrobat 8 as text is automatically adjusted to a lower pt font in Acrobat 8.

Expected results: Behavior of Auto Font property should be same in both Acrobat 7 and Acrobat 8.

Please clarify the following :
1. Reason for this difference in behavior of Auto Font property.
2. Is this is a "bug" or expected behavior.
3. Is there any way to force the old Acrobat 7 functionality.
