Autonumbering figures off in 2 chapters of book. What should I look for?

Using FM 11. I have a nine-chapter book. The first figure is in Chapter 2; that chapter has only 1 figure. I am using the paragraph tag F:Figure\ <n+>. The figure labels are in text boxes inside the anchored frame with the graphic, but not grouped with the graphic. All the figures are auto-numbering correctly with the following exceptions:

Chapter 3, restarts numbering. First figure should be 2, but it restarts with Figure 1. An easy work around: I entered n=2 on the first figure in the chapter. That corrects all of the figure numbering through Chapter 7 which ends with Figure 55.

Chapter 8 restarts with Figure 1. It should be Figure 55. Chapter 8 has 26 figures.

Chapter 9 is totally off: starts with Figure 47. The 3 figures in the chapter are numbered 47, 48 and 49.

I have checked and double checked the formatting and have one chapter that I use as the "master" chapter – 6 because it has both tables and figures. I have imported the formats from the master chapter (6) to all other chapters. The chapter, pages and tables number correctly through the entire book. The first table is in Chapter 1, the last in Chapter 9.

Where should I look to see what is different in Chapters 8 and 9 and possibly 1? If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Book numbering properties window – Section and Sub-section grayed out

In FM 12, I have a book composed of one front-matter file and 9 chapter files. The chapters (1-9) auto-numbered without any problems and pagination is correct. I want to add section and subsection numbers. Within each file I added autonumber format tags to the headers used specifically for section and subsection titles on the first chapter page and autonumber format tags within the body of the chapters. The autonumber tags are –

<$chapnum>.<$sectionnum>\t

<$chapnum>.<$sectionnum>.<$subsectionnum>\t

for paragraph tags Heading 2 and Heading 3, respectfully.

When I select numbering in the book file window and click on either the Section and Sub-section tab, the windows are grayed out. I know I'm missing something obvious. I've gone through help files, manuals and tutorials for hours and can't find what I need. Any advice about where I can look to sort this out?

Thank you.

PDF bookmark out of order

Hello to those with great FM skills,

I am saving a FM file as a PDF. The document has 7 sections with a few sub sections. All is well in the PDF except, the first section in the document is ending up last in the bookmarks sidebar of the PDF. It doesn't matter what I select in the PDF Setup dialog box. I've tried Thread by Column, Thread by Text Frame, and unchecked without success. The FM paragraph tags for each title are the same. It's a one-column doc with a left side head. The section titles begin in the side head and continue into the column. Any suggestions?

Thank you very much.

Frances

Adding a space between items in a list

Is there a way in the Autonumber Format to add a return to create a blank line between items in a list? Right now, I can only do it by removing the Autonumber format for the new paragraph and then add it back in for the next line. Seems like there would be a way to add a building block for this.
