EXTENSION MANAGER DOESN'T INSTALL "AI" FILES

Can someone please tell me how to download an Illustrator pattern -- the William Morris Thistle -- download available in the Illustrator Exchange area. I've downloaded it now several times; however, cannot get it into the Illustrator library. I've tried "open" with Illustrator, doesn't do anything. I've tried to use the Extension Manager and go to my "downloads" file (which is where I see it downloaded as an .ai file), but the Extension Manager file options don't include this type of file. Extension Manager files are "zxp" "mxp" and "mxi".

How does one actually get these downloads to work and load into Illustrator? There must be an easy way to do this, but I can't find anything on the Abobe site that's actually helpful in explaining why this isn't working and/or how to this step-by-step for these exchange files. So, Adobe, how do you do this? Also, I've downloaded the Extension Manager several times (uninstall and reinstall) and the link on it that's supposed to go directly to Adobe Exchange does not work. I've asked about this problem several times in the past and there's never been an answer to the problem. And, no, it's not my 2 month old computer that has dual processors, max ram/memory, etc. since that seems to be the standard answer "it must just be your computer".

DESIGN VIEW in blocks, dashed lines

DIVS won't line up, Footer creeps up

Here's what I'm trying to do:

Put in a box (#contentDiv) into the middle of the website that will hold three colums: 2 on the left stacked, 1 on the right

#contentDiv {
width: 940px;
height: 1275px;
padding: 10px;
background-color: #FFF;
position: relative;
top: 6.6em;
float: left;
}

Left Side

1. Box One (#specialsContent): that has 3 absolute positioned items within in line -- one left, one in the middle, one right. Plus there's a header line and a graphic above these items. I got it to work by position the surround box ABSOLUTE to #contentDiv (335px wide / 175 px high). Then I positioned the header as a <p> tag, dropped a graphic below that and, finally, ABSOLUTE positioned 3 separate Divs #divONE #divTWO and #divTHREE. This is working.

#contentDiv #specialsContent {
position:absolute;
float:left;
width: 335px;
padding:5px;
height:175px;
border-right:3px dashed #3CF;
z-index: 10;
}

I haven't included the other div's I used to position the graphics and text inside this #specialsContent div because it's all working and lined up.

2. Box Two #mainContent: to site right below Box one. This is where I continued to have a problem with this box jumping up and sitting right on the right border of the above BoxOne. Then my #rightContent #greenBox would move to the left margin below BoxOne and snug on the left margin of #Box Two. Once I changed the position:Absolute of BoxOne, I could get this one to move to the left margin, but I did have to give it a negative margin-left to move it all the way over.

#contentDiv #mainContent {
position:relative;
top:12em;
width: 335px;
padding: 5px;
/* [disabled]height: 100%; */
border-right: 3px dashed #3CF;
float: left;
z-index: 20;
left: 11px;
margin-left: -.7em;
}

PROBLEM: As content was being added, it would move down with the content. And, the #contentDiv that sits behind it was moving along with it giving it a white background. But the #contentDiv STOPS about 2 inches from the bottom of #mainContent Div. The only way I can get it to move -- #contentDiv -- is by giving it a height of 1275px were leaving height blank or putting in height100%. Even tried putting in a height:100% with this div, but that did nothing.

3. This is the RIGHT Box -- it's working.

#contentDiv #rightContent{
position:relative;
float:right;
width:550px;
}

There are two div's within this #rightContent div to hold a sign-up form and graphic with some items in it. Both are working; therefore, I didn't inclue the code.

FOOTER is having a huge problem:

The footer will NOT sit below the #contentDiv. Nor, does it sit below the #mainContent or the #rightContent div's. I've tried clearing the float, tried clear:both; tried position:relative, everything I can think of, but it just creeps up underneath #mainContent and #rightContent div's. I expected it to hit the bottom of #contentDiv and stop, but it's not working. Finally, I applied a POSITION:ABSOLUTE to it and moved it off the top of the #contentDiv. It's now holding it's position, but that's not how I should be doing this, I believe. I also had to negative margin the left side to get it line up on the left (must be picking up padding issue).

#contentDiv #footer {
background:url(../biz_images/footer_floridaMap.png) no-repeat;
width:960px;
height:500px;
padding: 0;
position: absolute;
top: 81em;
z-index: 100;
margin-left: -10px;
clear: both;
}

IF SOMEONE CAN PLEASE HELP ME SOLVE THIS ISSUE/MYSTERY, I would very much appreciate it. I've now spent two days on this problem and it's driving me crazy. Thank you.

EXCHANGE won't connect in Extension Mgr

I'm having the following problems.

1. Extension Manager wouldn't 'install' a couple of extensions into Photoshop last night. I can see them in the Extension Manager and they are "enabled', but won't install into the Photoshop/presets/tools, etc.

2. I couldn't get it to work, so I uninstalled the program and then went to Adobe and reinstalled Extension Manager. Now Extension Manager's "Exchange" button nor the " File/Go to Adobe Exchange" will even connect.

3. I've uninstalled and installed several times and still nothing.

Anyone have any suggestions? I've tried all the "help" buttons on the product, but -- needless to say -- they don't help at all. There isn't anything there about troubleshooting and trying to get any help from Adobe is useless. I typically have to go to other web forums to find answers to problems with Adobe. You would think a company that seemly puts out useful products would be more intune to the issues and problems their customers have. With that said, if there are any development companies out thinking about building similar software, if great support were provided, you'd have a gold mine of customers. I'd switch in a heartbeat!

I'm running Windows 7 Home Edition and have Adobe CS5.5. I'm currently trying to connect with Explorer, but have also tried Chrome. I'm very frustrated at how difficult this is to try to figure out why it's not working! Any suggestions would be appreciated.
