Remove Blog Release Date from Google Searches

Hi Everyone,

We are noticing in webmaster tools / analytics that the blog posts we rank highly for that show an old date (e.g 4 years ago!) have a 0% click through rate - we think this is because they look "old" as they used to have a much higher click through!

Does anyone know how we can keep the date showing on our website blog but hide it from Google searches?

The code we currently use in the Blog Post List Layout is:

<h4><span>Published on: <time datetime="{tag_blogpostdate}">{tag_blogpostdate}</time></span></h4> (in Blog Post Details Layout)

If we just remove the <time datetime="{tag_blogpostdate}"> will it hide it from google searches?

Bug - Wholesale AND Retail pricing bug on one order?

Hi,

Has anyone else had this issue? SA wholesale customer has done an order on our website where:

1) They have logged into wholesale zone and have wholesale pricing applied

2) Their order has some products in wholesale pricing but ALSO some pricing in consumer / retail pricing.

3) They chose a retail shipping option yet they are a wholesale customer and should have seen different shipping rates.

Getting worried about BC - this is a really serious issue. Surely the order wouldn't be able to process as wholesale AND retail pricing on one order? Surely as a wholesale customer they should only see wholesale shipping?

Any know a fix or had this happen to them?

Upsell at Checkout? Anyone done this?

Hello,

Has anyone managed to create upsells at shopping cart / checkout?

So when customers view their cart there is a box which says something like "have you thought of also buying" etc which shows them images and descriptions for products and all they need to do is hit "add to cart" and it will update the shopping cart?

Group / Bulk Pricing - How to do? Eg Buy 3 Scarfs for $30 (or 1 for $20)

Does anyone know how to do bulk/group pricing off a set group

e.g say we have 55 different scarfs available - each with own product code, inventory, page and SEO

Each scarf belongs to a category called "Scarfs"

We would like to do a promotion where if a customer buys any 3 scarfs, the total price in the shopping cart will only be $30.

But If they only buy 1 scarf it will only be $20.

Does anyone know the best way to set this up and keep each product as separate urls / codes / inventory / SEO (they only show together on one category page)?

Other shops / sites seem to be able to set it up fine eg:

Can't login to site (AU)

Hi,

It's not possible to login to our AU site - it keeps refreshing and saying "ERROR: You can only login using a secure connection. Click to login securely:" so we click the login there and it keeps showing error.

There's no way to contact support as we can't login to do so.

We've noticed our google rankings and DA have dropped recently and when we run google tests it looks like a speed issue on our site.

Pingdom says our site is slower than 84% of websites.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve the speed of our site or somewhere I can find this info for BC sites?

Australia Post Shipping - Can't get to work

Hi,

I have read all the online support docs I can find and I just can't get Australia Post Shipping to work on our site for international orders.

Everywhere it says:

Choose your shipping provider
Enter your account details
Your customers see real time shipping costs!

But Australia Post selection doesn't let us enter account details - does anyone know where I enter them?

And after I allocated sizing, weights etc to every product it doesn't even look like it even works:

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it to actually work? I can't imagine BC would role something like this out if it didn't even work but from all my googling I can't see that anyone actually uses it (or at least comments on using it!)

Public report - secure or "public"? Link in excel?

I've googled high and low and there is no BC documentation on public reports so I'm hoping someone here can help?

Is a public report open to the public? Or only via a secure link?

Will it show up on google?

Basically we'd like to build a sales report (with sensitive customer data) and pull this into an excel spreadsheet automatically to build graphs (showing weekly sales goals etc).

Does anyone know the best way to do this? (Automated preferably)

I'm scared to use a public report when there is absolutely no documentation on it and worried it might expose sensitive company info.

Email web form (for newsletter) - how to Stop having it create a wierd first name?

The trouble is it wierdly makes their email address their first name too..

E.g someone signs up with email testingform@emailaddress.com.au then BC will strangely automatically make their First name field testingform which is wrong. E.g smittenkitten@gmail.com has her name as smittenkitten <- so when Polly Bloggs does an order her parcel gets addressed to 'smittenkitten' not Polly Bloggs which she enters in her Checkout page.

Has anyone found a fix or have a solution?

Canonical URL - Where in Product Export / Import?

Hi,

I'm so happy BC has finally allowed Canonical URLS but I'm completely confused how to update them in bulk.

E.g BC says:

By default, BC will pick the first product URL and make it canonical, insert a link rel=canonical in page head and response header to instruct browsers and search engine which is the preferred URL of the product. Customers will be able to change the canonical URL through the edit product interface from admin console or through the import engine (for bulk updates).

There is no canonical field in bulk updates though.

The only one I could think it was would be: "Product URL"

BUT The import template says"

#Product URL

#This column is ignored. It is only available to ensure that an exported file can afterwards be imported

Am I missing something?

Shopping Cart / View Cart missing in some browsers

Has anyone else had complaints that the view cart button doesn't show on some browsers / computers?

We've had 2 customers ring up to complain they couldn't see it lately - and when I was at the airport last night I went to our site and it wasn't their either. (Qantas Melbourne lounge - safari - mac). The button was completely missing.

What's strange is I've tested it on 3 other safari mac's before and it was there.

Does anyone have any ideas?

We have just added paypal to our site and would like to send an email to everyone this week saying if they pay with paypal they will get free shipping.

Does anyone know the best way to do this?

I can't work out how to make a discount code / free shipping only apply when this payment method is selected as payment and discount code are on two different pages.

This is my experience today and I did it myself so it is 100% correct.

1) I add an "email only" user for a new staff member

2) this afternoon they tell me they are getting every workflow etc of all new orders placed and EVERYTHING...

I think 'what'.. that's impossible, I JUST added an email account NOTHING else..

Then I check under User roles and low and behold they are included in every single user role. I never included them in a user role as they are JUST an email account.

This, to me anyway, is a serious security breach as I never wanted them to see all our orders, product low notifications, applications etc - why would BC do this.

Understanding Pricing tags.. I'm so confused :(

Ok I'm completely confused about the pricing tags and how to include and exclude tax based on customer...

What I need:

Consumers - see pricing including GST

Wholesalers - see pricing excluding GST

Wholesalers - see also volume pricing excluding GST

When I use on the large product layout

* {tag_totalprice} Total price of the product, i.e. Sale Price + Tax

= This works for consumers perfectly.

But how do I make it so wholesalers will see Price Excluding GST?

I tried using {module_isloggedin} and also tested with the catalogue set to show pricing to everyone - but then it wont show their wholesale pricing even when they are marked as a wholesale customer..

* {tag_totalretailprice} Total retail price of the product, i.e. Retail Price + Tax = This works for consumers perfectly to see the original amount.

But wholesalers don't have an option of seeing the normal price / pre sale price.

Another option I thought of was to make consumers pricing with no tax but We have to include the Tax amount on the tax invoice so it's not possible to select no tax for consumers as that wouldn't be right / our accountant would have a fit as legally we must include taxable amount...

Can someone point me in the right direction pretty please or paste in what they did that works?

Shopping Cart - Show discount code is applied and the discount amount (only when entered)

Customers are getting confused whether their discount code is applied or not - does anyone know a way to show that a discount code has been applied (but if no discount code is entered then they wont see the line)

We tried {tag_invoicediscountamount} but this shows for everyone - we would only want it to show if a discount is actually entered like below:

i.e. if no discount code is entered then they wont see any of the yellow circled bits.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

We use site search on our website to show products (we can't use product search as we can't track what is being searched on - long story!).

The site search results are a complete mess - does anyone know how it's worked out?

I contacted support and they didn't know the algorithm.

The issue is when we search the word "home spray" it doesn't show the products with home spray in the name first.

Instead it ranks other products higher that don't even have home spray in the keyword, or in their name, or even in their description..

BC support said it searches each word separately but again doesn't know whether it searches the keywords first or the description, or the tags etc. It makes no sense on why and how the results order is chosen. We tried even

Bug - Quotes Tax Issue - Pay Later orders DON"T get forced to select destination state / tax

Quotes aren't forced to select destination state so many come through without tax.

I've lodged this with BC support earlier in the year too but just an FYI for everyone to check your quotes being placed!

It's happened now a handful of times and it's so frustrating as

1) there is no way to apply the tax to the order via admin

2) the order needs to be deleted and reprocessed online to apply tax

3) which again is frustrating as you need to reset the customers password to login as them to place the order!

Different layouts for different catalogues?

Our current catalogue layout is where the items are displayed (2 across x 20 down) plus the catalogue description at the very bottom of the page.

I'd like to make one of the catalogues have an image up the top, then a description, then the items (2x20).

Does anyone know the best way to do this?

I tried to create a new page and add modules of products and catalogues etc but I can't get the products to show like the small layout (the standard layouts).

Any ideas?

Hi Everyone,

Just an FYI with the new passwords. It says they must contain special characters but Adobe's definition of special characters is different to standard websites.

The special characters which you can use for passwords are those from the number keys on the top row of the keyboard layout, all other special characters are forbidden and they will not work.

E.g using <, >, ?, /, {, } etc will NOT work.

Took a few hours and a chat request to work out what you can and can't use. Thought this might save someone else the frustrating pain!

Mixed pack pricing yet?

Hi,

I remember this as a topic in the last forum or wishlist but can't find where it's at now.

We sell lots of products where they are e.g $4 each or $2.50 each if they are bought in a mixed pack of 20 (which is the outer carton). So 20 of one is $2.50 each or 2 x 10 different types should be $2.50 each and each item is inventoried.

Is there a way yet to have the customer charged the $2.50 each when they take 20 or more items from a specific group of products?

Destination Country - Dropdown not working on some computers

I've just had our second customer state that on the shopping cart page they can't scroll down to select their destination state:

"I had to put American Samoa because the drop down menu wouldn't let me scroll down to US on my lap top."

I can't see how to change the list via modules - shopping cart page.

Add Phone and Email to Packing Slip?

Hi,

Does anyone know how to add a customer phone number and email address to the packing slip layout?

The tag doesn't show in the options. I've tried to use all I could think might work without any luck. (e.g including {tag_addressbilling} {tag_addressshipping} {tag_recipientaddress} {tag_emailaddress})

But on the blog - http://www.businesscatalyst.com.au/bc-blog/new_release_163_on_8th_of_j une-_with_many_wishlist_items_fixed - it shows in the image it can be done.

Any ideas?

(We have now moved to sending with TNT and they require the email and phone to be entered on the con note but our factory only use the packing slip which doesn't seem to allow these fields to show. I can get them all to show on the invoice but not the packing slip. The only thing I can think of is to give the factory the invoice - but then it's not set up well enough for them to mark off the checks when it's made and packed (we have special boxes on the packing slip for this) plus then they can see pricing which we try to avoid.)

How do people export then fix and reimport customers?

We need to fix up minor (but important) fields in our CRM (e.g rating, CRM fields etc).

How does everyone else reimport and fix their CRM data in mass?

- I can't find an easy way to export customers, make a few changes then reimport them. There is no report that lines up for an import.

Does anyone know how we can remove GST from a manual order?

The tax is greyed out at 10% and can't be changed but this customer is an overseas customer that pays our Australian pricing but does not pay tax.

Any ideas?

Hello,

I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light on a tax issue with BC as I'm really loosing faith with Business Catalyst over this issue!!!

We sell retail, wholesale and do manual orders.

We sell retail where the price needs to be including tax.
We sell Wholesale where the price needs to be excluding tax.
As there is no tag that will show retail price including tax and wholesale price excluding tax we were told to use {tag_totalprice} on the products page to show pricing.
To get our website to work we were told to install {tag_shippingoptions,true,,} on the shopping cart.
We were told to have tax on retail products as GST
We were then told to make tax Not applicable on wholesale products so that the tax wouldn't be included in the price but assigned with the {tag_shippingoptions,true,,} on the shopping cart.

This was all working fine until a wholesale customer rang to change their order and do another order.

if you change a manual wholesale order then it REMOVES the tax!
if a wholesale customer rings up to do an order and we can't see their password - we need to do it as a manual order as we can't login as them. Hence again no tax.

Really dissapointed in BC over this - does anyone have any solutions?

Easy way to Close Multiple Cases?

I was sure there was a way to close multiple cases at once, but the only options are to assign them to someone, blacklist them or delete them.

Does anyone have a solution?

Cases are a great idea but it's really time comsuming to have to open each one and close it.

Product Meta Descriptions - Vanishing!?!

Hi everyone,

Has anyone else had their product meta descriptions vanish?

I've spent hours updating the meta descriptions for new and top products. They all save fine and I've check they were there (plus made a note in a custom field they were updated)... but now many are missing and have completely vanished.

I exported our excel products sheet too - and some aren't their either.. but they were when I had last exported.

Is this a bug?

This is happening to products we have sold recently and have recently made. We use onesaas to sync our stock levels and sales to our accounting system so I've asked them too but they say they don't touch product data except for units on hand..

2 year old BC site - buy and install a new template?

Hi everyone,

We have an existing BC site.

We would like to have our website made into a responsive website and have been quoted 100+ hours to do this.

We were thinking about instead buying a ready made BCGurus responsive template but is installing a new template easy and possible? Other websites eg wordpress seem to do this effortlessly but I wasn't sure the best approach in doing this with BC.

- is it just a case of creating a new site wide template, pasting in code?

- then pasting in the css code?

- then just checking site fixing minor issues on pages etc?

I read somewhere else on the forum that it's better just to create a brand new site but we have 2+ years of customers details, activities, newsletters, reports, products and orders etc in it which we can't loose (so creating a brand new site isn't possible).

Would love any feedback from someone who has done this before

Hi all,

I was hoping someone that has a website that is both wholesale and retail could shed some light on some issues.

We currently only sell wholesale on our website but are looking to add on retail to consumers too. To say we are petrified on how to do this is an understatement!

e.g

We sell bottles in wholesale quantities with minimum units of 50 per item at e.g $1 each + GST = $50+GST = $55 total

But we want to add retail to our website the same item where the retail minimum would only be 10 units per item at $4 each incl GST = $40 total

We have over 1000 product lines and good SEO on many so I don't want to hide any or more the wholesale behind a secure area etc.

I'm trying to work out how it is best to implement this on our website.

I've found another BC website that does this by having the wholesale pack as $50+GST as 1 unit (and with text via custom fields they say it is $1 + GST per unit and the pack size is 50) but we can't do that as the inventory would be all wrong as a wholesale order of 1 pack = 50 units and a consumer order of 10 units would be 10 units. Our inventory would have a spasm..

Does anyone have any advice on how they manage a wholesale and retail website on one site and deal with inventory and minimum units?

We also have bulk pricing to add to the mess too! e.g when a wholesaler buys 100 units they come down to 90c + GST and retail would come down to $3 including GST for 20 units... So I'm confused how volume pricing will show retail as including GST and wholesale as excluding GST.

Paypal redirect error - redirect ok for checkout but not for pay later invoices

Has anyone had success in people paying paypal after an order?

We have paypal set up perfectly for checkout. Customer pay then they come back to our website and see they have paid.

But if the customer gets an order and then logs in online to pay it (e.g http://bit.ly/Uc85R5), Paypal will take them to their payment page, take the payment but when it takes them back to our site an error message comes up:

ERROR: An unknown error occurred. This is most likely due to the merchant profile not being set up correctly. Please contact your system administrator for help.

The payment works though, it's just the redirect page confirming their payment. I think the reason for the error is something to do with the code.

Sometimes I feel my BC posts are because of problems, but I've just found something super fabulous BC does with email campaigns. Just wanted to make everyone new about the button Actions customers took - you can see who placed an order from the newsletter - ie resulted in a sale.

Hi,

I just discovered that some products are assigned to catalogues that don't even exist - so we can't remove the catalogues. I think there is a bug in Catalogues.

Has anyone else had this problem or know a fix?

I think this is also why our Shipping Options aren't displaying correctly as BC thinks a product is in a catalogue that doesn't exist.

E.g our Chocolate oil is assigned to 5 catalogues in the detail screen:

When I paste into my browser each of the URLs from the first pic, the first one doesn't even work / it doesn't exist. It looks like a bug as there is no "/15-ml-fragrant-oils" catalogue. And I don't know why it is even showing it as it doesn't exist.

So then I checked on the Catalogs screen and there are only 4 catalogues showing: (the 15ml oil isn't their either, only on the URL above)

So I checked out the excel products export sheet to see if something happened there, but that looked fine:

- there are only the correct 4 catalogues

- the "Product URL" is pulling the correct URL (/fragrance/aroma-oil).

I'm completely confused why BC is showing a catalogue that doesn't exist. Is this a bug? Has anyone else had this problem?

Landing Page with Buy now Buttons for products?

Hi,

I've been searching all morning and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction please.

We have 1000 products on BC and I wanted to create a custom landing style page offering 3 set products that people can click to buy now. ie just a simple buy now button.

I don't want it to look like our normal small or large catalogue but as a separate landing page.

I would like when the customers to click Buy Now or Add to Cart that it adds them to the cart.

e.g

blah blah blah

large image of the item

underneath = Buy Now / Add to cart

blah blah blah

large image of the item

underneath = Buy Now / Add to cart

etc.

I tried using {module_product} inseting the item but it only shows a tiny pic and has no buy now button.

I also tried inserting an actual html code of the products button, but it didn't work either.

If I just create them as text is there a product specific buy now button I can insert so that item gets added?

I've seen websites do this with a paypal buy button but then it wont go through our CRM etc.

Any ideas?

Advice please - Monthly Sales Reporting - figures all different and wrong?

Just looking for some advice.

How do you do a thorough monthly report on invoices?

We need to do monthly reports on sales (e.g Invoice $, Units Sold, Most popular items, plus hopefully $ per range / catalogue).

I've been playing around with BC and there are so many different reports available - but they all give such different information = they can't be properly used as the data is so skewed

e.g

1) the Ecommerce report looks great but doesn't seem to include manual orders so doesn't give proper figures = can't be used. Plus I can't even find how this report is worked out and if it includes Freight? What happens when a customer adds on to their order is this included if it's a manual addition?

2) the CRM-orders report is based on create date not invoice date so if an order is a quote then invoiced the next month it's not in the right month (plus quotes are included even though not a sale) = can't be used.

3) if we build a custom report (Customers and Orders) - and include invoice date and products purchased it shows all the orders and products which is good but requires a lot of excel work to make it useable.

Does anyone have a great way of doing monthly or even weekly figures?

Gmail emails now not working - SMTP error?

Hi there,

We have been using gmail (normal) as our mail system.

It has been working fine for almost 2 years. Until today.

Last night I changed my business catalyst password for security and now I can't send any mail as they are all coming back.

(ourbusinesscatalystsite.com is for reference, I have replaced them with our actual site)

Technical details of permanent failure:

Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the relay mail.ourbusinesscatalystsite.com by mail.ourbusinesscatalystsite.com [64.98.36.5].

The error that the other server returned was:

535 5.7.8 Error: authentication failed: Authentication failed (SMTP AUTH failed with the remote server)

The funny think is we also have another 2 gmails and they are set up exactly the same and still work fine. I've updated my password and kept every detail the same as the other gmails and mine wont work.

I have it set up as gmail - Send mail as:

Email = my BC email

Treat as alias

send through ourbusinesscatalystsite.com SMTP servers

SMTP Server = mail.ourbusinesscatalystsite.com

Port 465

username = BC email to login

password = BC password (new)

Secured connection using SSL

but it keeps saying:

Authentication failed. Please check your username/password.

[Server response: 535 5.7.8 Error: authentication failed: Authentication failed code(535) ]

Does anyone know what's going on. I've tried all the other connections and all the other ports and I'm getting all error messages.

It's worked fine for years so I just don't get what's changed (other than my password which it wont let me update).

Split Testing?

We are looking to do some split testing on our website to increase conversions. I was expeciting to see some discussion on here about split testing.

Has anyone had any luck implementing split testing?

We extensively use ad-rotators (to see which is most clicked on) but has anyone had any luck working out a system to see which page designs and content convert better? e.g 50% of visitors are shown 1 and 50% the other and you see which page lead to sales.

In wordpress and lots of other website systems they have inbuilt split testing for everything from forms to headers to even email campaigns - was hoping there might be something similiar in BC?

Hi,

Has anyone had any luck forcing item sales only in set pack sizes for some products? E.g customer can only order in multiples of 6?

We have some products that are prepacked in 6s and some customers order 10 or 20 which means we need call them to change or need to open a 6pack and make new packaging. (We still need pricing to show as for a single item. We have minimum units already as 6).

Thought there was a thread on this but couldn't find it.

I use this feature all the time and today when I go to Products - Export and open the file it comes up one cell with

"Special Custom Order" in it - no products or anything else. (image attached).

Has anyone else had this issue?

Anyone got this before?

ERROR: You've provided a Sell Price 2, however Quantity 2 is either missing or less than or equal to 1. Quantity 2 must be greater than 1. Ensure you have also provided a Sale Price 3.

But the sell price one is $1.99. The RRP is 0.00 as we don't use it.

The sell price two is $1.89 for 100 units

There is no Sale price 3.

The minimum quantites are 25.

Does anyone know why it's being funny? I'd look in the knowledge base but kb.worldsecuresystems.com is still down..

Bug {tag_productsubtotal} - doesn't take off discount

Hi,

It says in the KB -

{tag_productsubtotal} = Total price of all products excluding tax in the cart

But when the items are discounted it's the wrong price that is displayed. It only shows the prediscounted total which is super confusing and incorrect as that is not what the customers are paying.

Ie there is a bug not letting the {tag_productsubtotal} show the real total price excl tax.

Can't search product in admin anymore with firefox

Using firefox, when you login to admin - click Ecommerce - > Products -> in the search box type a product name nothing pops up. This used to work fine. We can now only get it to work in Internet Explorer.

Also when you type in a word (e.g red) and click search - nothing comes up - not that it ever did but this and the above bug just makes the search product function in admin really poor form.

Hoping BC are improving this!

Shipping cost flat per area - look up postcode?

Has anyone been able to get BC to look up the shipping postcode to determine which shipping option to offer the customer?

We have flat shipping options per area.

E.g Sydney is $10 but NSW Country is $15 and currently customers have to choose their own shipping option - problem with this is that customer not in Sydney will select Sydney and then we loose out of freight and have to call each customer to get the extra amount = very time consuming!

As we charge based on flat rates regardless of invoice total, we need BC to lookup the postcode.

Does anyone have a website that has got this to work?
