I see there is not yet a Responsive forum so I'll try the question here...

We would like to do the conditional build thing to tailor the users' views according to content specific to them. This will work, but will produce multiple sets of compiled files

I am hoping there is a dynamic approach out there similar to what is described on Peter Grainge's site at http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/rh_tour/index.htm but this is for WebHelp only

If it is not possible in Responsive, then it woud be a very usefult new feature to suggest to Adobe

Robohelp menu banner not working

Hello RH for Word stalwarts!

This is for RoboHelp 9 and 10, Generating WinHelp 2000, Word 2007

The RH banner menu at the top of the screen has stopped working as of a couple of weeks back

Any item selected from here does nothing, then when the cursor is put back on the Word, Word crashes

That means I have to insert graphics, mid-topics and other useful stuff manually

That's quite annoying so if there any ideas, I'd be happy to hear them

Can HTML5 be published to a local drive

Here's my problem:

I have some large multi-screen projects that can take a very long time to publish - as long as 24 hours indicated. It usually takes several manual restarts to complete the publishing so it is not just a matter of leaving it alone overnight

It would be handy if could publish to a local drive, then ftp everything up to the site - but I see no mechanism to do that

Any suggestions?

Hiding the navigation pane in multiscreen layout

I am creating a small project which is just a supervisory page to launch other projects, and the nav pane is not needed. Is there a way to prevent it from showing?

There was a thread in the WebHelp forum, which seemed relevant but I could not pursue it properly

Microsoft downloads for WinHelp in KB 917607 do not apply to server 2003

We have a user who is attempting to load our WinHelp project on his Windows 2003 server

The procedures in the KB article for downloading the winhelp engine apply only to server 2008 and when he attempts to use that, he gets a message that it is not valid for his server version.

Does anyone have any experience with running WinHelp projects on server 2003?

Please note - this is NOT a question about running RoboHelp on a server

Relative addressing in WebHelp (9 or 10)

I have an area on our website that is a repository of a number of pdf files. I would like to be able to open these files from links within separate WebHelp projects.

I can do this by using an absolute reference to the location of the files from within the projects but would prefer to use relative addressing

A simplified structure is

www.mysite.com/pdf for the repository of the pdf files

and

www.mysite.com/project for the location of a project file.

If I use a link in the project containing an absolute reference of the form www.mysite.com/pdf/file.pdf that will work properly

If I attempt to specify the link as ../pdf/file.pdf, it will not work and ends up as www.mysite.com/project/pdf/file.pdf.

Am I using the wrong syntax, or is this just not supported?

WinHelp, Windows 8 and Ultrabook - macros not working

Our products are generated for WinHelp 2000 using RH9 for Word

The user has symptoms typical of macros not working. This has normally been caused by the user not properly doing the step described in the Knowledgebase article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607 regarding " How to enable macros on a single computer after you install the WinHlp32.exe"

I have updated a machine to Windows 8, performed the Knowledgebase article items and our products work fine. I have also verified that the user's machine has the correct registry settings, so it looks like Windows 8 is not the culprit. That leaves the Ultrabook

This combination of Windows 8 and Ultrabook is quite new and I am hoping someone using WinHelp 2000 has already run into it.

Please let me know if so.

Anyone noticed that the varmints at Microsoft will no longer let you download the x86 version from KB917607?

The item is there, but there is no "Continue" button next to it to proceed with the download

I hope this is a temporary oversight

Compiled file size ballooned , WinHelp, RoboHelp 9

I notice that the compiled .hlp files are now 2-4 times larger than when they where compiled with RH8..

We distribute on CD's and this is causing a major headache.

Anyone tried going back from RH9 to RH8?

RH9, Office 2007, WinHelp 2000 - strange topic behaviour

This just started happening after the combination had been working perfectly since upgrading from RH8 ..

When I create a new topic named abc, it displays in Word as # $abc Kabc @Status|0|||0|||||| abc

- instead of the expected format similar to #.$.+.K.abc

When I look at the topic properties, the topic title is blank.

Any changes made to an existing topic also results in the same sort of behaviour

I have installed the RH9 update - at least I think I have - the "About" still shows Build 9.0.0.023

I am dead in the water on a bunch of WinWord legacy projects until this is resolved, so any suggestions would be most welcome

RoboHelp HTML Version 8 - File containing publish info

Can anyone advise which file contains the publish information used to publish WebHelp?

Typical info for publishing contains the username/password, server destination folder etc

We are using Subversion as our version control system, and for some reason, this information does not get committed to Subversion, so it is all blank when the project is next checked out.

Font lists appearing when converting from WH2000 projects

Each topic generated in HTML when converting from a WH2000 hpj has a list of fonts inserted at the start.

It's no big deal to delete the list in any HTML file, but we have hundreds of topics to address, so it's a huge time-waster

Any ideas on how to avioid getting these fonts listed in the first place?

Is it possible to insert Greek characters - alpha, beta gamma etc?

Will WinHelp run on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine?

We have a client who cannot run our WinHelp products on a 64-bit Windows 7 system. The Microsoft Knowledgebase article provides the WinHlp32 engine download but there no mention of whether this same engine will work on a 64-bit W7 system.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

As a footnote, we have another client who successfully runs the winhelp engine on a 64-bit XP system

RH8 for Word - Strange page breaks and non-scoll headers

RH8 and Word 2007 generating WinHelp 2000.

Normal page breaks are full page width.

When I insert one in manually, it shows as only 2 inches wide.

A tiopic with this short break does not show as a non-scroll header and does not get included in the browse sequence

Any ideas folks?

Microsoft download of the WinHelp engine fails

I notice that the download of the x86 winhelp engine no longer works. It is needed to run WinHelp under Vista.

It was fine a couple of weeks ago.

I get the message "The update does not apply to your system"

I have been looking for winhelp.exe on my system, hoping I would be able to copy it, but it is not to be found.

Has anyone raised this issue with Microsoft yet?

WinHelp 2000 search file failure

Here's a weird one...

Our products consist of a number of WinHelp 2000 help files.

One client could not generate the .fts search file trying one of the products. I found that his IT people had blocked writing to the Windows/Help folder which is where the generated fts file is placed - hence no search. OK, I understand that.

IT allowed him write access to the area, but still no search file generation for that one product. He tried other products that he hadn't tried before and they worked fine. Just the first product failed to work.

It's as if Windows has an evil streak and took offense at the first attempt and decided it wasn't going to let it create the search file - ever.

The client has tried rebooting, reinstallation of our product, searching for the fts file placed somerhwere else on his hard drive - nothing. The client is running XP.

Any ideas people???

RH7 and Vista slow, slow, slow

I find that that most actions in RH7/Vista are very sluggish - 60 seconds or so to display a topic's properties, or to create a link. No such problems in RH6 and XP

Does anyone else see this? It is really slowing us down on projects with a large number of links.

Header font changed to TNR by compiler

This is an old problem that I thought would go away with the change to Vista, Office 2007 and RH7.

Previously, with Word 2003, the compiler would change the font of Normal and Header 1 to Arial and TNR respectively. It was caused by a Word security update that changed how rtf files were handled. The cure was to reinstall Word and block the automatic Microsoft updates. Adobe support seemed unaware of this.

Currently, the Header 1 font gets changed in compilation to TNR. Normal seems to be unchanged. So some of the problem is still there.

Anyone else seeing this behaviour?
