Will FMv9 work after installing FMv12?

Running Win7/64-bit. Have been running FMv7 and FMv9 for some time now.

Recently, I installed v12 and had tinkered with it for a few days before getting around to opening v9 - at which time I've discovered v9 will not start. With splash screen up, only Localization starts, and then "Internal Error 9004, 6921628, 9677518, 0. FrameMaker detected a serious problem and must quit."

I cannot know if v12 installation affected v9, since I had used my pc, worked business as usual, etc. for days before getting around to going into v9.

I am also tinkering with third part add-ons, so I might back track and find this myself. All I am really asking for at this point is for confirmation that v9 and v12 will can be expected to play nice together?

Thanks,

Dave

FMv7, Open With/File Association

If I Browse to v7.exe and select it, the Open With dialog still does not show v7.

We have to abort Open With, start FMv7, and then drag v7 file onto FM program window. Or, in FMv7 program, do File Menu > Open and navigate to v7 file.

What happened to the File Association to FM v7? And why can we not open v7 files via Open With?

Thanks,

Dave

Issue Background:
EDD is well modified from original Spec.
Structured doc contains two Elements, Contents and Illuslist.
Each contains a list of entries - all are Hotlinked, like a Generated List in a Book File.
Each element, when selected in Structure View, highlights a large chuck of content (ie, all the entries in the associated list) in Doc View. For the Contents element, which occurs as first child in Structure, the selected content includes the top titles in the doc.
In doc view, list content can be edited; however, after clicking into a line, one use of cursor arrow (eg, UP), takes insertion point to top of content chunk.
New entries can be entered, but only using Soft Returns and tweaking settings in Para Designer.

My Question(s):
1) How are these lists created? First answer might involve the tocentry attribute that is on some elements; but it is not on all the elements to which these linked list entries go.
2) How to update the lists using some "auto-generate" function? The files are stand-alone and not part of any Book File. As far as my users recall, the files never have been part of a Book.

Can anyone provide insight here?
Regards,
Dave

Point Page Numbering in FM 8?
Is this available?
Thanks,

Filling Tables by Column not by Rows
After import into FM7, we add three columns; then we want to tell FM7 to wrap the single column so it fills from top to bottom (Col 1 first), then left to right (Col 2 thru 4), Page 1 first; then onto Page 2 and after.
Could someone tell me if we can do this, and if yes, how?

Thanks.

Mstr Pg Text Bx not showing on Body Pg

Running WinXP/Pro, SP2 and FM 7.0p579.
Text Boxes installed on Master Page do not show up on Body Page -- as they used to! This is in a file that was fine last time it was edited, but now, the box is missing from view.
On Master Page, it looks normal. If I give the border a pen assignment, or if I enter data into the box, the border and content will show on Body Page. Previously, the box showed on Body Page with View > Borders turned on.
My process:
On Master Page, I draw a text box and select 'Template for Body Page Text Frame'. I assign an unused Flow Tag because I do not want it connected anywhere. I then go to Object Properties and remove the Tag and disable Autoconnect.
This is a process I've used for years, but suddenly is not working.

Any ideas?

Validating Files in Book File

Running FM 7.0, patched-up; Win XP Pro/SP2.

Book file contains several files, all of which are known to contain unset, required attributes and missing/invalid Structure.
Book file is not using valid EDD itself, so displays invalid Element at top, "NoName". Element > Validate caught this invalid HLE at first run, and I clicked to Allow Special Case. But no other error in file set would get caught.
Now, even when I click Clear Special Cases, the HLE in Book File will not get caught.
Individually, files will validate normally, even allowing and clearing special cases will toggle.

Suggestions?
Thanks,

BookMarks revert to previous destination

Adobe Acrobat 5.05/Prof (WinXP/Pro, SP2)
[Edited Acrobat Version, 6/10/08]
Top four Bookmarks revert to previous destination. If clicking between two of them, a flickering loop starts; where each one reverts to the other.
If I drag vertical scroll button out of these top four bookmarks, everything works - until I click to one of the four offending ones again. When I do, the offending Bookmark works until I click off it again. When I click off it - no matter what Bookmark I choose, the system reverts to this destination and loop begins again.

Detailed process looks like this:
(1) Start at one of the top four Bookmarks in the file.
(2) Click from that Bookmark to any other, everyting is ok.
(3) Click to any Bookmark - other than top four offending ones - and everything is ok.
(4) Click to one of the top four offending ones, and everything is ok.
(5) Trouble begins here: Click to ANY Bookmark and the destination appears for only a moment, then reverts to the previous one.
(5a) If the Bookmark selected in (5) is one of the top four offending ones, it also reverts to previous destination - which is one of the offending ones. This starts a flickering loop where the two destinations are blinking on display in a never-ending loop.
(6) I interrupt the looping by dragging the vertical scroll button anyplace outside the top four offending destinations.

Is this clear as mud? Too much info?
Any suggestions?
TIA, Dave.
