Flex App Performance Issue in Chrome "PepperFlash" Player 12

Here's a video that demonstrates how the January 2014 update to Chrome's "Pepper" Flash has crippled the experience of our Flex / Flash Web App.

In short there's a 5 to 20 second wait between screens ( states ) and our customers are complaining.

Our App used to work great in Chrome until Mid January and it works great in all other browsers.

I know there are other Flex developers experiencing the same ( via the Chrome Forum) .

Anyone else ?

The latest update to Chrome pepper flash coinciding with Flash player 12 has destroyed the Flash experience on Chrome.

We're seeing screen updates taking 5 to 10 seconds instead of milliseconds on other browsers.

When you click the URL bar in Chrome you can force a screen refresh.

I can't see any official noise about this yet. I imagine it's easy to fix because it's so obvious.

Anyone else see this?

Does anyone else have problems with FP12 in chrome?

I've noticed an issue in Chrome with Flash 12 which appears like a stall to the user.

In fact what seems to be happening is flash is not renderiing ( or sometimes taking 10+ seconds) the final frame in a sequence of programmed animation or a state change - it just hangs on it for 10+ seconds

It is possible to "wake up" chrome / flash 12 by clicking the URL or waiting for 10-15 seconds - but by then our customers think the fault lies with our app.

Were using Flex 4.6 to compile our web app in Flash builder using noting too fancy, just programmed animation and state changes.

The issue starts with the preloader and wrecks the experience throughout. The app plays well in other browsers - not yet tested them with FP12.

We're on Win 7 64bit. We have version 12,0,0,41 installed

Coldfusion 10 Flash Remoting deserializing Error

Our Coldfusion 10 Standard server ( win2008 IIS7 ) has been handling flash remoting requests from our flex app and AIR IOS, AIR Android APP sweetly for over a year until a few days ago.

We're now getting frequent errors of the type:

REMOTEOBJECT ERROR Client.Packet.Encoding Error deserializing client message. null

- when sending a VO to a coldfusion CFC as follows:

mainApp.routeRemoteCall('lessonService','recordLesson',{aLessonVO:myLesson,runIte:runIte}, this)

etc etc

We've made no code changes on server or apps to trigger this. We've restarted server.

The errors are intermittent and distributed across users.

Typically you get an error when you start a session of use then it resolves.

Errors are more common when more users are connected - as you always expect - however this could indicate a scale issue.

regarding scale we would only have max 50 or so users using the apps at one time.

Could this be a scaling issue?

How does Coldfusion allocate flash remoting sessions?

Multiple application domains are not supported on this operating system.

I'm getting this error from an IOS app compiled with air 3.6.

No code has changed from Air 3.5 which is error free. Web app / android versions of the same codebase do not error.

See the stackTrace below ( well done Adobe for providing this since air 3.5 !! )

I use swfloaders for loading embedded swf vector art graphics. This has not caused any issue until now. Should I load all art into the main app's application domain ?

The error does not crash the app and I could suppress it easily but is could the tip of the iceberg because application domains are scary stuff.

Cold Fusion 10 Standard - Throttled Flash Remoting or Not?

We have server running CF10 Standard which basically a one trick pony - doing one only thing - handling flash and AIR romote object requests from browsers and devices.

I'd expect this to go smoothly but we're seeing a number of errors popping up when the server is under load ( we're talking pretty small loads - maybe 100 concurrent users across browsers / devices )

The errors are often duplicate http session or recently Error deserializing client message and they don't seem related to the code / device just distributed randomly.

What I'd like to know is simply:

Is CF10 Standard throttled for Flash Remoting in some way ?

Was this introduced in CF10 ( and was not in CF9, 8 ) ?

Aside from upgrading what can be done in CF Admin to optimise Flash Remoting in CF10 Standard ?

Use of compiler argument -swf-version=18 for AIR3.5 IOS and Android with Flex4.6 ?

I've just downloaded the latest Air 3.5 SDK and merged it with Flex 4.6 inside Flashbuilder.

This leaves the merged SDK with 2 playerGlobal.swc files. 11.1 and 11.5 ( swf version 18 )

For IOS and Android projects do I need to add the compiler argument -swf-version = 18 so that the compiler uses the latest version of the playerGlobal.swc ?

Is this done automatically ?

Is it essential / undesirable ?

Any clarification is greatly appreciated

We're getting the "duplicate session" error using Flash Remoting from Air 3.4 Mobile Apps ( IOS and Android ) with Coldfusion 10 Standard.

faultCode:Server.Processing.DuplicateSessionDetected faultString:'Detected duplicate HTTP-based FlexSessions,

generally due to the remote host disabling session cookies.

Session cookies must be enabled to manage the client connection correctly.' faultDetail:'null'

Have read most of the docs about this error -all to do with LCDS

Notes:

Not using LCDS,
No Remote Calls from loaded Sub-Apps,
No Errors from the Flex Web App which is pretty much identical and calls the same cfcs.
The error does not happen all the time and is hard to reproduce - say 5% of app sessions at a guess.
Could it be a two first time remote calls hitting the server together before a session is set up?
Our remoteObjects are in two places 1) Main Application.mxml and within a class compiled into the main app - can't see how this would be an issue.
I enabled session management for the CFCs in Application.cfc but still occurs. Is this neccessary - it's not in any docs?

Spark Image can't scale embedded SWF symbols?

Can anyone help me make sense of this?

Using Flex 4.5.1 (Spark only compile) I've found that the new Spark Image control works inconsistently when loading SWF at runtime and embedding SWF symbols. See these two situations:

1) OK - Spark image loads a whole SWF in runtime. Swf loads OK and scales up to desired size with perfect smooth anti-aliased edges

2) Not OK - Spark Image loads an embedded swf symbol as follows:

( or using a bindable class )

And the image is pixelated and totally unusable.

It seems unfortunately that when embedding Swf Symbols ( which is a big element of the Adobe Flex - Flash - Illustrator workflow ) the "vector" images are reduced to bitmaps at their original size and don't scale.

I know spark swfLoader is a possible option - but surely it's too heavy for loading many images?

Spark Video (osmf) and Vimeo Pro

We're using Vimeo Pro to deliver video inside a flex 4.5 app using the spark video player which I believe is basically a wrapper around osmf v1.0.

Vimeo Pro handles video as progressive download only. They provide 3 mp4 URLS - High Def, Standard Def and Mobile.

We'd like to use the video source appropriate to the user's bandwidth.

Can anyone suggest a method to identify if / when the user's bandwidth is insufficient and a way to switch video source on the fly?

Is text input in a browser-SWF possible on a mobile device using virtual keyboard?

I know that text input is possible in packaged mobile apps using styleableTextField however my question relates only to web-page-swfs via a mobile browser.

I've tested on a couple of android devices found it impossible to trigger the virtual keyboard when browsing to a swf that otherwise performs great.

Please can someone at Adobe give me some clarity on this. Or if anyone has solved this or experienced it - please respond. Thanks.

I have a Flex 4.5.1 swf web app that works a treat on a Galaxy S2 except that the virtual keyboard won't appear.

( Android 2.3 Flash player 10.2 and 10.3 tested ). I think I've covered all bases - see below.

Director 11 and actionscript 3

PLease can someone (at Adobe) confirm whether Director 11 supports Flash CS3 content with Actionscript 3. The feature list says: "Flash CS3 Professional, including files using the ActionScript™ 2.0 language." implying no - but this seems unlikely given than AS3 has been out for one year plus.

Hi All,

I was hoping that the F.C.K . would create components that are accessible in flex however it seems not so. The UIMovieclip class seems to implement the IFocusManagerComponent:

class UIMovieClip extends MovieClip implements IDeferredInstantiationUIComponent, IToolTipManagerClient, IFocusManagerComponent, IStateClient

So I would expect it to work however it just doesn't -- the flex app just wants to keep hogging the focus all the time!

Has anyone done this? Help very welcome!

CF MX 7.2 XP Install Problem

I'm going through the much documented problems installing coldfusion developer version on SP2 and it is quite annoying. Ports are open and yet CF will not install without errors. "Go and configure the web connectors manually" is the installers advice - I've a better idea I'll maybe try B1ue Drag0n - which installed 1st time!

PLease help - I really want to evaluate Cold Fusion MX7.
