TRIM, LiveCycle and PDF forms

Hi,

I am using LiveCycle Designer ES3 to produce a form to which I then applied reader extensions through Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. The users of the form have been using Adobe Reader 9 to fill out and save the form. The form is loaded into TRIM (a records management system. See http://www8.hp.com/au/en/software-solutions/software.html?compURI=1173707) and via a TRIM workflow various users fill it out as required. This was working okay in TRIM until a recent network changeover and this is where the explanation gets complicated.

The form hasn't changed but some users are now on a different network from the TRIM server and these users are also using Reader XI. When trying to get the form out of TRIM to work on it they get a message "This document enabled features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available. Please contact the author for the original version of this document.". Upon opening the form they find it locked down and they cannot make any changes, let alone save them. The thing is the document has not been changed. What has changed is that the document is in TRIM. TRIM is on a different network and the users have to log into it to access it.

I sent a Reader XI user a form via email and they were able to edit and save it. When the user uploaded it to TRIM and tried to open it they received the errror message and were unable to edit the document at all.

Any suggestions or thoughts are much appreciated.

Thanks,

Greig

Import slides from one project into another

Hi,

Apologies if this is the wrong forum. I am using Captivate 7 and am trying to import slides that I have recorded in one project into another project. I have a 800 x 600 project and have reduced some recordings to 640 x 480 in another project. I now want to bring those small slides into the 800 x 600 project so I can add notes and logos to the top and bottom but can't work out how to do this in Captivate 7. This is something that I used to regularly do in Captivate 4 so I am sure it can be done. I just can't find out how nor can I seem to ask the right question in help or these forums as I can't find any answers there. I don't care about doing it via importing if there is a better way.

Thanks,

Greig

Captivate 7 Crashing

Hi,

I have recently installed Captivate 7 and am having some crashing issues.

I converted an old project to Captivate 7 and was able to open it, edit it, save it and close it. I then tried to create a blank project and Captivate crashes. Captivate puts a template slide in the blank project for me which looks like a PowerPoint slide with instructions to "Double click to add title". Being new to Captivate 7 I have tried to do this only to end up with the following error messages:

"A fatal error has occurred and the application is being terminated. Adobe Captivate has tried to save all your work in the respective project folders as ".cpbackup" files.

Please restart Adobe Captivate."

A randomly named backup file also appears (the randomness coming from the fact that I have not saved the new blank project I guess, although I did try a save and got the same issues with crashing).

As the blank project is still opened I have tried to go back and double-click to add a title only to be told:

"Placeholder_1 is either a reserved keyword or is already assigned to another item. Provide a different name for the item."

This is a bit odd as it is Captivate doing the naming, not me. I suspect that it might be in conflit with the cpbackup file?

Anyway, has anyway got any ideas before I blast it all away (not an easy option as I have to get ICT support to do this as I am not allowed to be an administrator on my machine) and reinstall or get my money back and go to an earlier version of Captivate that I know works?

Any help or suggestion is appreciated. I have tried renaming the resource folder in Application Data\Adobe but this did not seem to work.

Thanks for your time,

Greig

Text field in table not overflowing onto next page!

The problem I am having is that if I put a lot of text into the text field it will not expand on to the next page so not all of the text is visible. If I just set up a 1 row table the expansion works as I would expect and takes up as many pages as needed. Somewhere along the line the add, remove buttons or their associated javascript or the Repeat Row option seems to be having an effect.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Greig

I have set up two diagram options - portrait or landscape - using master pages to control the orientation. I have ticked reapeat subform on the diagram pages and they are turned on via the buttons I have set up on the first page - one for landscape diagram and one for portrait diagram. What I would like to do is that, once a portrait diagram has been chosen, have the landscape diagram appear after it, or vice versa. So, for example, the resulting form could have a layout that goes landscape, portrait, portrait, landscape, depending on what order the buttons are chosen by the user.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for your help,

Greig

I have been trying to adapt a bit of JavaScript from the help files which moved a subform but I have had no luck.
Dynamically add data to a table field from a drop-down?

Hi,

I have been trying to create a drop-down to dynamically populate a table based on what drop-down option is chosen. I can get it to work for adding a row at a time, which is fine, but I want to add text related to the chosen option to a field in the newly created row. I can get this to work using Row1.Field.rawValue = "blah blah blah" but when I want to get dynamic and call the row being created by using something like resolveNode I can't get anything to be entered into the field. Can this be done at all?

Here is my script:

==================

topmostSubform.Page1.tabletest.DropDownList2::exit - (JavaScript, client)

if (this.rawValue == 1) {

 Table4._Row1.addInstance()

 Page1.tabletest.Table4.Row1.Identity.rawValue = "Easement for Transmission Line"

 };

if (this.rawValue == 2) {

Table4._Row1.addInstance()

Page1.tabletest.Table4.resolveNode(Row1[Table4.Row1.instanceManager.count-1]).Identity.ra wValue = "Easement for electricity and other purposes"

xfa.host.messageBox("Ausgrid");

};

===================

The first part, for this.rawValue == 1 works okay for one instance of adding. The second part, where I have tried to do a resolveNode, adds a row but does not enter any text.

Thanks in advance for your help with, and consideration of, this problem.

Cheers,

Greig

Search Highlight in Merged WebHelp

Hi,

I have created and published a Merged WebHelp Project. I have
used the highlight search script as outlined in Method 1 on Peter
Grainge's pages. When I search for a term in the default topic and
click on the search results list to see the page I get a pop-up
error message stating "Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet
site 'drive/startpage.htm'". Nothing drastic happens when I click
the message but it is not nice for the users!

Any thoughts? Does it matter that the search JavaScript is in
a folder on the parent project and is called from there?

Thanks,
Greig

I just want a simple collection of data that shows that someone has completed the quiz, which just a set of multiple response statements, and who that someone is. I have started by using Text Entry Boxes (TEB) to collect their name and assigned a variable (v_Name) to this to reuse the information in a certificate. So far so good and this works. I have set up email reporting on the quiz and, providing users actually hit the button and accept both messages, the email gets sent. All I am looking for in the email is that a user has completed the quiz. The score and results do not matter. Now, here comes the issue. I would like to record the user's name (v_Name) in the quiz results that are emailed in. No matter how many reporting options or marks I give the TEB or what options for reporting I select the information will not appear in the emailed report. I can set up a question slide to ask for the name and this will appear in my emailed report but will not appear in my certificate.

Any ideas?

I have tried to play around with padMail in the resulting HTML to try and draw out the variables but had no luck (I am a JavaScript novice).

Is there a way of emailing a slide view? The problem I am having with it, however, is that when I click in the text entry box in the published flash file on a server (seems to be okay run from my local files) to enable entry the focus is lost before I type, meaning that I have to click in the text entry box again to regain focus. It usually loses focus again before I get to type. Third time seems to be lucky. If I wait a while then click and type seems to work on the first attempt. I have the TEB appearing after 0.0 seconds.

I don't mind having to click and then type but doing it a couple of times is quite annoying!

Any ideas?

Thanks for your time,

Greig

Captivate Updates

Hi,

I have seen mention in the forums of a couple of updates to
Captivate 3. I would like to know how to get hold of any updates
without having to go through Help > Updates...

I am running Captivate Version 3.0.0 Build 580. I also need
to know what is included in any updates as I have to make a case
for installing the update.

I am not the administrator of my own computer. I have to log
any installs and updates with my ICT Help Desk. When programmes
such as Captivate are installed they are usually done when I am not
around and the installer likes to turn off features such as
checking for updates. I have similar problems for the whole
Technical Communication Suite. In fact, I didn't even get the
latest version of Acrobat 3D as the installer decided that, seeing
as though I had Acrobat Professional 7, I didn't need it!

I looked at the downloads section for Captivate on the Adobe
website to find that it had an update for Version 1.01 -
http://www.adobe.com/support/captivate/downloads.html

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions anyone can
provide.

and close via a mouse rollover rather than relying on them being
clicked. My problem is that I am using text-only pop-ups in pages
that are already pop-ups and clicking to close the text-only pop-up
closes the whole window! My hope is that by using a roll-over the
user will still have the original pop-up page when they move away
from the text-only pop-up and, also, to make the text-only pop-up
appear via a mouse rollover as a click is not necessarily intuitive
for the user.
