Setting opacity and brush size in Illustrator Line. Possible?

Just to make sure I did not miss anything.

Would it be possible to set opacity and size for brushes being used in Adobe Illustrator Line? Or this is available on in Adobe Illustrator Draw?

Also, chromatic circle for choosing colors is not a feature in Line, right?

Adobe Premiere CC and Adobe Encore CS6

Perhaps I missed this information.

In my personal notebook I already use the CC design apps like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.

My father works with video app and in his workstation he is still using CS6 applications, including Premiere, After Effects and Encore CS6. My father uses a lot the Adobe Dynamic link to easily wok with the video applications together.

Now he is thinking about installing the CC apps in his computer. Question is:

Since CC does not include Encore...if we keep Encore CS6 in the machine and the other programs as the new CC version..Will Adobe Dynamic Link be broken??? And we cannot use anylonger?

Hyperlink in the scripts's UI

Hi friends

I was looking in the JavaScript Tools guide but did not find this information (or perhaps I missed it). Would it be possible to a statictext become a hyperlink? And a portion of a text in an alert pop-up? For example:

var dlg = new Window ("dialog", "My dialog", undefined);

var myText = dlg.add ("statictext", undefined, "www.mysite.com");

Adobe Reader cannot save..just print the form

Hi friends

If this is the wrong post place...sorry.

Hope you can help me.

I made a simple form using LiveCycle Designer ES2. When finished I saved normally as PDF.

When sending via e-mail or copying to another computer...I´m opening the PDF in Adobe Reader to test if it works. All the fields are ok (I used simple fields, no JavaScript).

But Adobe Reader shows a message that the current form cannot be saved. If I want I could print to have a filled copy of the form.

What I´m missing?

How could I make the PDF opened by Adobe Reader and be able to save without problem?

Output Simulator 2.0

Hi friends

I'd like to show you a new version of one of my popular scripts: Output Simulator, now in version 2.0.

The idea of the script is to hide guides and contents outside artboards, so you have a better preview of the project. To develop this I was inspired by the Adobe InDesign's Preview Mode (when you press the "W" key on that application).

How to make this forum better?

Hi friends

I have the ability to create an announcement inside this forum. So I'm thinking about this possibility. I'm following this forum for about a time just to be sure it's free of spammers (and also for learning each time more about scripts and participating when having time).

I'd like your opinion....

What do you think about creating an announcement called "Read it before posting your questions here". The body of the announcement should tell the users links from where are the manuals of Illustrator Scripting and the JavaScripts Tools Guide. This could help people find useful informations of Illustrator scripting and know more about it. Do you think it would be useful?

Also, do you think some times...is there some users who ask questions, but, at true their objectives is to make the specialists here to create an entire code for them?? ...like..."Hey, I want to create a snow ball in Illustrator. How could I do via script?"

If you perceive there are such users, do you think would be good to include in the announcement a paragraph to warn about this?? So, this would alert this forum is a place essentially for "help"?

Can you share your inputs about this subject, on how I could create a good announcement to help new users to use it better?

Compare two images and leave only the different pixels

I'm working together with a photographic studio in order to study better ways to cut subjects in their photos. So, instead of using the ways we use to cut, we had an ideia, perhaps crazy, but anything that we have never tried. We have taken 2 photos for the product. The first is only the background, and the second is the beackground with the product. Look at the attachments in this message. It's a simple example (not taken in the studio, with control of lights and so on, but should work for testing purposes).

Looking at the 2 images, you can see the bottle and his reflex or shadow is the unique content that changes between the 2 scenarios. If you try, for example, place each file as a layer, group them into a smart object then use stack modes, you can take off the bottle from the scenario. We are trying to find a way to get the inverse (leave only the bottle). So, if finding any combination of technique that works, we could speed time in the cutting process by already taking images this way.

Do you have any advice or technique you know and could be adapted in Photoshop so we can test and see if you get near the result?? (perhaps a combination of blending, use of channels....), anything that could compare the 2 images and calculate the different pixels (this case, the bottle)? or perhaps reach an alpha channel that makes easy to perfectlly cut the image.

The difference blending mode, for example, makes a calculation of pixels, but I did not get so much sucess working based on this blend

We are making various tests here. But perhaps my knowledgment of Photoshop is not so far as yours to try other alternatives.

Any way to force Photoshop to launch and keep visible a window of type "palette"?

Hi friends

I have a script that works perfectlly in Adobe Illustrator. Now I want to make a version of this script for Adobe Photoshop. The problem is: the scripts is based on a window of type "palette".

Basically the original script launches a window of type palette with some buttons. It gets visible and allow user to work normally. When user presses a button, the script configures a BridgeTalk object then sends the specific function as a message to Illustrator executes. Works great in Illustrator.

But, AFAIK, window of type palette is not compatible with Photoshop (at least is what manual describes). In my tests, If I try to lauch a dialog of type palette in Photoshop, it shows and instantlly closes automatically (it does not keep opened). I´m not considering the run via the ESToolkit. I´m talking about the direct run in Photoshop.

Perhaphs I´m missing anything, but, Is there any way to launch a palette in Photoshop?

I´m not an expert in computer specifications (at true I have just an overall knowledgment about this) and I do not want to compare computer manufactured by specific companies (this is not the intention of this post).

We work with Dell computers since 2005. Now we are thinking about buying a new desktop computer for work. We are focused on social movies, like weedings, birtdays and so on. We record and edit in FullHD. We work with Premiere, After Effects, Encore (also other Adobe softwares like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and sometimes we do some work with 3Ds Max to make some animations.

Well, acessing the Dell´s website we perceived there´s two models of computers that has a similar price (but a considerable difference in configurations). The first is a New Dell XPS 8700 and the second is a workstation Dell Precision T3600.

if you would choose from one of them, which one would you choose? Why?

With my poor expertise about computer specifications, I tend to choose the XPS, because of the bigger Ram memmory, the bigger HD...should I assume the video board and processor of XPS is worst than the Dell Precision??? this is why the price becomes similar?

Any advide?

A "preview" checkbox with JavaScript

Hi friends.

I´m writting a JavaScript that sends the active document in an appropriated way to print. Before calling the print command, I wanna display a dialog box asking the number of copies to print. So I thought I could also use this box to show some "auto" adjustments options (for example "auto levels"). If the user active "Apply auto-levels" then image refreshes to show the result (like a live preview). If user disables this box, then auto levels must be retired from image.

Well..hope you do not laught on my solution. The way I found to do it is..apply auto levels and refresh when user enables the field, and return in the history and refresh if the user disables this field. It get the expected result. BUT, if I have more checkboxes in the same dialog box, then this solution will not work so well (sure).

Do you have any other consistent solution to have previews of commands, but retire if the user disables the field?? Would like to learn a little about it.

Expose or not the JavaScript code for the public?

I´m planning to develop some public JavaScript scripts for Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.

I perceived ESToolkit has a command that´s able to transform the code into a JavaScript Binary file. This is used if you want to share your script but do not want to expose and allow others to read or change your code. What do you think about it? Do you use it?

My first idea was to share my public scripts as a normal JSX file..code exposed..anyone could modify. When you share your scripts, do you care about exposing your code? Or it´s a good idea to share using this Binary file?

What do you advice?

Window of type "palette" and onClose event.

Hi friends

I´m having a trouble with an onClose event in a panel of type "palette". Let´s try to explain the problem.

Suppose I have this single construction:

var myDialog = new Window ("palette", "My dialog", undefined, {closeButton:false});

var bt = myDialog.add ("button", undefined, "Ok", {name:"ok"});

myDialog.onClose = function(){

//for example: app.activeDocument.layers.add();

};

myDialog.show();

If I change the window to type "dialog", everything looks preety good, but if I keep the dialog as "palette", then the button "Ok" does not close the dialog and, sure, the onClose does not work.

P.S: I need the onClose event because I want that closing code executed even if the user hit "ESC" instead of using "OK" button.

Any idea how to manage or an alternative to make the button and the onClose works??

App.activeDocument.cropBox returning an error (CS3)

Hi friends

My script currently being developed is working perfectly in Illustrator CS5, CS6 and CC. When testing in Illustrator CS3, the line where I read the cropBox property of the activeDocument returns an error. So I tried to isolate this property in order to test it. So here's my test:

var doc = app.activeDocument;

var v = doc.cropBox;

Even running from Extended Script or directlly in Illustrator (and even declaring #target illustrator and #targetengine main) the line about cropBox stops and gets the error. Debugging in ESTK it returns the error:

"The property was not initialized"

Am I missing anything?

In newer Illustrator versions it works fine. But in CS3 not.

Register an even to run a function every time a document is saved

I´m was looking in the Illustrator JavaScript manual..but did not find this kind of information. Can you tell me if I´m missing anything obvious?

I have a function and would like to run this function every time the user invokes the process of saving the active document.

For example, the script is running. If the user go to File > Save or File > Save As, then... Illustrator invokes the function "x" in my script;

Is it possible? Where I can find information on how to register events in Illustrator?

Solution to capture videos from VHS, Mini-DV and other tapes

Hi friends

We have a lot of VHS and Super VHS tapes (old family memories). In the last decade (wow hehehe) we had a Pinnacle DC-30 and after a DV-500 (capture card) to capture these videos.

Now, our camera is based on memory card, so it´s very easy to download the movies. We do not have a computer equiped with a capture card anylonger (the maximum is a firewire card and USBs).

My question is: Is there any equipment or a solution to capture these videos from VHS, Mini-DV and other tapes. For example, the video cassete has an RCA output...If having a way to convert the signal into a Firewire or USB, that would solve.

For mini DVs, we have an old Sony HD1000 camera, but the firewire output of this camera is damaged :/ So, we are also not able to capture videos from these tapes any longer.

Do you know any solution or equipment? (I know a capture card like a Matrox would be a good solution, but from now it´s a little expensive for capturing home videos )

Introducing Collect Links v3 (for Ai CS3 and higher)

This script is expected to be compatible with Illustrator CS3 and higher. It automatically collects the links in the AI document and organize them in a folder along a copy of the Illustrator file (it´s such a function avaliable in Illustrator CS6 and CC´s Package official feature).

Capture videos from a DVD disc

Hi friends

We have some DVDs with images of family (2 years ago we converted the VHS old tapes into DVDs). That time, these DVD were recorded using Adobe Encore, so it has menus, chapters, titles and so on.

Now, we would like to make a new collection. We want to "capture" the images from the DVD again and convert to a format like *.AVI or *.MPEG in order to open in Adobe Premiere and make the necessary compositions, edits...

Is Adobe Premiere able to capture images from a DVD? If no, do you know or advice a software to do it?

Edittext and onChanging event

Hi friends

I´m creating a dialog and one of the fields in this dialog should accept only numbers. So I thought I could use a combination of Regex and onChanging function with the edittex. Here´s the concept:

var dlg = new Window ("dialog", "Test", undefined);

var txt = dlg.add ("edittext", undefined, "");

txt.characters = 40;

txt.onChanging = function (){

txt.text = txt.text.replace(/[^0123456789]/g, "");

};

dlg.show();

With this code (it´s working) I´m sure user will not be able to type letters or anything else than numbers. But the problem is: if the user hits a letter in keyboard, then, after removing correctlly the letter, the function automatically inserts the pointer of the text in the beginning of such field..So, the next key user presses, it will be inserted in the beginning of the string. And it´s a problem when inserting the text.

Is there any alternative (not necessary needs a regex) I could insert in the onChanging function, so the pointer of text always keep in the end of the field?

If my explanation and question was confused, please tell I try to explain again

Best way to manage an "Esc" pressed by the user

Hi friends

I normally create dialogs to offer options to the user before executing the script functions. So, having a "Cancel" button in this dialog would suit the need for an user to cancel the operation.

But let´s say the user selected the options in the dialog and pressed button OK to start the execution of the process. The dialog will close and process will start. Suppose it will take 1 minute to complete.

If, inside this 1 minute, the user presses "Esc" key in keyboard, then the execution will stop, but it will display an alert (like an an error) it was not possible to finish the process (sure, he cancelled the operation).

What I want to understand: Is it possible to manage this "cancellation" of the user via the ESC and do not display alerts? For example, write a function that tells...If user presses "ESC", then abort the process and display no dialog.

Would an event listener that reads the keydown "ESC" would be suitable for this task? or is there any simpler or suitable way to do it?

Not able to use the Documento.selection.select() function

Hi friends

I want to make a selection that takes more or less 1/7 of the height of the active document (see the attached image, the white portion is the simulation of the region).

So I thought I could use the app.activeDocument.selection.select(region) function. In the manual, the "region" parameter is an array of numbers. So I wrote this:

app.preferences.rulerUnits = Units.PIXELS;

var doc = app.activeDocument;

var sizeH = new Number (doc.height - Math.round(doc.height /7));

var totalW = new Number (doc.width);

var totalH = new Number (doc.height);

var coord = new Array (0, sizeH, totalW, totalH);

alert(coord) >> it´s an array of numbers;

doc.selection.select (coord);

But ExtendedScript is returing "Invalid argument" in the last line. So it´s not accepting "coord".

What Am I missing?

Where variables are stored in disk?

Just a question more for curiosity. It´s a technical concept question around programming.

Suppose I have a script which has variables declarated outside any function. So they are global variables.

When you are running the script, these variables "take a space in memory" and can receive values.

What´s the real concept aroud this "taking room or space in memory (or disk)"?

I mean, does the system running the script create any phisical file in the disk with the name or the variable waiting to receive (store) and read values inside? Like a text (*.txt) document???

Or the system processes global variables without creating any phisical document...and this space is disregard when concluding the running of script?

I´m using Windows 7 64 bits OS. If each variable was considered as a file, which folder is it stored? Could I check for any remaining unused variable? Could I open it? See it in disk?

Export all pages to JPG

I use to write scripts for Photoshop, Bridge and Illustrator. But it´s my firt time writting scripts to Adobe InDesign (and my first to this forum too). I´m accustomed with the JavaScript referece document of that 3 softwares, so I´m getting a direct help via the "Object Model Viewer" inside Extended Script Toolkit for writting with InDesign.

I want to export all the pages of my document using JPG as file format. So I set the properties to an instance of JPEGExportPreference and would like to use this configuration to export all the pages. Am I right to use the method app.activeDocument.exportFile() ??

Because I did not find a place to declare the method to read my JPG preference. It´s also getting an error page range was not set. Could you analyse my code and see what I´m missing?

Read metadata for a file without Photoshop or Bridge

Suppose I have a file in desktop called "test.jpg". So I create this variable:

var myFile = new File ("~/Desktop/test.jpg");

This file has some keywords and instructions I need to read. And if the reading process finds the correct keyword, then it copies the file to the appropriated folder. Well, in resume, I could do everything directlly using #target estoolkit. I´d not like to involve (opening) Photoshop or Bridge.

Is it possible to read the metadata of a file without targetting Bridge or Photoshop? Reading the reference I did not find any method or property for this, expect for the metadata library. BUT

If I try to load the metadata library using:

Adjust again the limit of rendering to automatically fit the entire work area

Hi friends

I suppose this is a very basic command. My father works with Premiere to edit movies of birthdays and weedings.

But I do not know he does or where he presses in the work area...the limit of rendering (highlithed in my image) leave it´s original position. So my father every time needs to manually drag it to cover again all the clips in Timeline.

Sure he could Undo the action but...My question is: is there any command he could use to revert this and set the rendering limit to automatically fit the entire motion in Timeline (the default behavior)?

I´ve just concluded the version 1 (BETA) of my new script for Illustrator called "Collect Links". In resume, it will collect all the links in the opened active project and copy it to an output folder along a copy of the own *.AI document.

The script is expected to be compatible with Illustrator CS3 and newer.

In my tests it´s working. Hope it works on our side.

It mimics such process of links collection executed by the Illustrator´s CC (and CS6 for Adobe Creative Cloud members) Package command.

Returning the status of a linked file

I´m having this problem:

I created and array to receive linked filed (let´s say var pItem = app.activeDocument.placedItems;)

After it, I used a loop to know the File each link is associated. So:

Of Course, I could try using an "try" statement...but..Just to know: Is there any way to evaluate the status of a placedItem (to know if it´s missing or not)?? In the user manual I did not find any property that checks for this. We have properties to check for bounds, matrix, notes, tags, if it´s locked, visible...but not for checking the consistency of a placedItem, right?

Copy 5 layers (or a layer set) to another opened document

I have 2 opened documents. The first has 5 layers. I need these 5 layers to the second opened document. And this is my problem. The 5 layers creates a composition. So if I copy one by one, the position related to others layers will change.

In my script tried linking the layers before copying. No sucess. Tried to create a layerSet, but did not find any method to copy this layer set to second document :/

Any idea how to copy the 5 layers to other document???

Clear all filters set in Filters panel. Scriptable?

I´m looking for app events but did not find any method that is able to reset the filters set in the Filters panel.

Suppose the Filters panel has checked some options (like to see only green label photos and 2 stars). I want to clear all filters and see all files in the folder. So I can continue my scripts task.

Can you confirm if this kind of "reset Filters panel" can scriptable??

Continue a script in Photoshop

I need to write a script that export artboards as PSD then open these files in Photoshop in order to continue the processing.

So here´s basically the concept:

#target illustrator

...body of the code to be executed in Illustrator, concluding with the document.exportFile (...) method; //it´s perfect up here. It generates the PSD properly.

The problem is. How it could change the target application in the middle of the script? (this case, inside an IF loop)?

Dropdown list with autocomplete

Hi friends

Perhaps this is not the right forum to ask this question. So I appreciate if you could help me on this. It´s a question about CSS or (JQuery).

I´d like to have a dropdown field. So user could click to the arrow to see the options and choose one.

But this same dropdown should also allow user to type anything and (like Google does) the options (already loaded by dropdown) start to be suggested in a poup below.

For example....imagine a dropdown where you have a big list of professions (designer, teacher, director...)

You could use the arrow to expand the list, navigate and select the profession you want...But..you could also start typing T...so any profession starting with T are displayed in a popup below...easily allowing to select the correct.

I have no idea on how I could create such feature? Do you have any tip?

call a function when the active document is closed

I have a portion of my script (at true a specific function) that I´d need to be executed every time the user close the app.activeDocument in Photoshop.

I know there´s a Photoshop script called "Script Event Manager" where we can associate actions and scripts with events (like closing the document). I´d not like to use this script because..as I told...it´s not my entire script to be runned when closing a file..but only a function.

Tried to search in the Script Event Manager for any event called "onClose" () but sure there´s nothing.

How could I insert an event in the body of my own script that calls a function every time user close the active document?

Export each chapter as one H.264 file

Hi friends

I´ve made a project in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 (using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits). The length of the project is about 2 hours.

I´ve already divided the timeline into 20 chapters (in order to use in Encore when creating the DVD or Blu-Ray).

Now I´d like to publish a copy of this project to Youtube. But 2 hours is too length for one video. I thought I could separate the project into it´s 20 chapters. So I upload to youtube 20 files...the chapters.

My question is: Is there any way to order Adobe Premiere to export each chapter as one H.264 file suitable for Youtube (using the Youtube Widescreen HD preset)?

What´s the best way to do it?

Assigning ICC profile to an AI or EPS document (that has no profile)

I´m using Illustrator CS6.

I have some AI and EPS files without embed ICC profiles.

I´m trying to write a JavaScript that opens each document, assign the working ICC profile then save and close.

Have already done everything about opening and closing. It´s perfect.

The problem is the embeding ICC profile. Reading Illustrator JavaScript reference I did not find any method I could use to assign an ICC profile to the activeDocument.

Can you confirm it´s really not possible? (to assign an ICC profile to the opened topmost document)

How to set a Navbar to load just after Bridge stars?

Hi all

I´ve written a script to add 3 buttons to a top navbar. Running from Extended Script works perfectlly. However when adding this script to Bridge´s startup folder (to run it one Bridge opens)..then I get an erro. This could be because a script should wait until the loader finishes. But how I could tell Bridge to run this script after Bridge completes loading the panels???

Here´s the code:

Problem when passing value to resolution (Export TIFF)

I´m passing by a strange script behaviour. I´m trying to refine a script to export artboards as TIFF.

So suppose I started "var op = new ExportOptionsTIFF()"

And I set op.resolution = 250

Now I try to run this script via Extended Script Toolkit. I press play and it goes right...But If I make more tests I have this problem:

If I set a differnt resolution (for example, 365) the Script will ignore this new and will use the only value 250 defined in the past (in my first test). If, for a third time, I set another new value, the Extended Script will ignore this value and use the 365 I set in a previous test.

Look´s it´s recording the differnt values I put but it is always delayed one or two times :/

Do not know if I was able to better explain the problem.

Have you already passed by it?? Should I consider this as a problem? Or it´s only an Extendes Script software mistake?

Error: "Enumerated value expected" when exporting an artboard to TIFF

I´m trying to export a simple artboard using TIFF as extension. So here´s a simple code:

I get an error in the last line (the exportFile method). The error is "Enumerated value expected."

I´ve already tried changing the TIFF options and even the path. But the problem persists. What Am I missing?

Progressbar in script UI problem

2: Progress bar does not work. It´s expecting myself to close the dlg2 in order to start running the "for" cycle.

What Am I missing??

When writting scripts to Photoshop I can use the app.runMenuItem() method to acess commands in the menus. For example: app.runMenuItem (charIDToTypeID("ZoomIn")) will run the Zoom In command.

Does Illustrator have any such method (or accepts anything like action description) to enable us to acess it´s menu items? For example acess Expand comnand, or Object > Live Paint > Make....

Changing the angle of a linear gradient fill

Suppose I have an object filled with a linear gradient. This object is the only selected. I just would like to change the angle of the gradient to 25 degrees. So I think I could do:

var doc = app.activeDocument

alert(doc.selection[0].fillColor.angle) // the result is the exact angle of the gradient fill of the selected object. Suppose 12 degrees.

//now the try to change:

doc.selection[0].fillColor.angle = 25.0

No errors are found by the Extended Script Toolkit..BUT...it does not change anything. As Illustrator reference manual does not say this property is read only, I think I could write.

Am I missing anything?

Move a folder

I´d like to write a script that is able to copy (preferred) or move a folder from a place to another. target is #estoolkit

In the JavaScript Tools Guide.pdf I do not see any method for copying or moving folders. The copy() function works only for Files, not Folders.

Is it possible to copy or move a folder (for example ~/Desktop/myFolder) to another place (for example ~/Desktop/Destination)

Problem when transform command is invoked in a dialog

I´m having a problem with the script UI. I tried various things to correct but I´m not able to get sucess.

The code in the script is correct. The problem is: when I run the script and click the "execute" button...Photoshop would need to execute the "Transform" function it is called and would allow me to freely transform the selected layer.

BUT...it does not allow me to drag the axis of bounding boxes to transform. This is because Photoshop is understanding my dialog box UI is still active, ---even calling dlg.close()--- (and I cannot transform since a dialog box is active).

How to abort the run of a code in the middle

I'm writting a JavaScript script for Photoshop and in the middle of the code I inserted a Confirm call (variable receiving this is called "continue1")...If user click Yes button Then, continue to run.

So I need to tell the code "If continue1==false then abort and do not read the code lines remaining.

Sure I could embrace the remaining code with an If (continue1==true){

...

}

So code wont be executed if user clicked no in the confirmation.

But...

Is there any reserved word or method that stops the execution of a JavaScript in the middle of the process?

(If I was inside a function I could use "return") but I'm not inside a function...so a return would not work.

Pass a function when calling onClick for a button (UI)

I´m now studying and adventuring myself in the Script UI creation. I´m enjoying it !!!

I´m having the following trouble: I added a button to a dialog box and would like to tell script to run some commands when users click on the button. So this is a simple (poor example):
