Is there a way to show/hide a group of objects that will work in html5?

I consider myself to have a fairly decent understanding of captivate and its functions but this recent issue has stumped me.

I have a button with javascript attached to it that runs a typical if loop: (pseudo code to follow)

if(variable = 1){
show "group" and variable = 0;

} else{

hide "group" and variable = 1;

}

Now normally, I would do this with single images, etc, and it would work fine. You click the button (the image being unticked where it says "visible in output") and the image shows itself, then you click the button, and it hides. Very standard stuff.

My issue, is that captivate seems to let you name a group you make....but they have not given you any control of that group.

Problem:
I want a way to show and hide a group of objects by only clicking one button (when published to html5).
I want to only have to reference the group and dont want to need to write a separate line of code for every single component that makes up that group (assuming the solution has to be coded).

Is it even possible to control groups like this within captivate?

Thanks!

Question X of Y screws up when numbers get too high

Hi, we are having an issue right now where we have courses which are entirely question slides (random question slides). In each question slide at the top there is a box that says the "Question X of Y" which obviously changes into "Question 1 of 50", etc. depending on what slide we are on. We publich to html5 and this issue doesnt show itself on ipad (safari) but it does on windows (any browser).

here's the issue:

The question X of Y on certain slides becomes:

question X of

Y

it doesn't matter if we increase the width of the box, and all standard options don't work either. Whats massively peculiar is it seems to effect random numbers of X. For example, 7 of 50 will screw up but 26 of 50 will be fine. That's with all shape and settings across each question slides set to the exact same.

Anyone got any insight into this?

Since the most recent update, any previously made captivate files we republish won't display

(skip to "I'll break down the problem as best as i can" to avoid rant )

Essentially, we have near a hundred eLearning courses we have made using captivate dating back as early as captivate 4. We have been upgrading through the versions as we go and where there has always been little glitches that present themselves this one makes the list sense. This isn't even an upgrade in version, just a little patch (that seemed to add the ability to resize the "Question X of Y" bits on question slides).

So, does anyone have any help on this problem? Adobe have been so far not very helpful, essentially offering the wisdom and clarity that comes with years of not trying to fix problems. Their advice being to basically remake each course from the ground up, something that will take a LOT of time (and for what!? to fix their mistake?).

I'll break down the problem as best as i can:

Since recent patch to captivate, pre-existing files that we publish again will not display on windows computers but does display on Ipad's, etc. Uploading to a server does not fix the problem, it remains the same. The internet window opens up the same as normal but after a brief loading bar moment, the window remains blank. A check of the code shows that the files are being loaded but simply not displaying in any form. If we publish a completely new file, it displays fine. The type of browser has no impact on the problem. We have also found that if we go into the console and use a command to skip to, say, the second frame, it works!? So the issue literally seems to be with displaying in the first place.

Thanks in advance if anyone can even help suggest ways to get round this problem, it has come at a terrible time when we need to make changes and present material to another company but can't even view our publishes files.

Captivate 6 - Quiz slides, submit button behind other buttons problem

Inserted swf animation plays slowly 50% of the time.

Hi,

Basically, I have a captivate project where i have condensed 20 slides into an animated excercise, its much better than it was before. The swf file, produced in flash cs4, is on 1 slide of the captivate project.

What i want is to be able to make sure the person cant go to next slide without having first done the flash excercise. Now my first thoughts were to have the flash excercise have an object over a next button in captivate, then when the project is finished, the object disapears and the button is visible. The problem was that the button was still clickable even with the object on top.

So I am also looking at ways to actionscript the problem.

realistically, any idea, regardless of how simple or 'cheaty' it is, is going to be good enough for me. Don't care how i do it, just want to make sure people cant advance till the animation is completed (or on frame 2).

thanks

Most efficient way to play and pause swf animations in captivate 6?

Hi, I have a bunch of animations i have created to put in captivate 6 projects.

In the past i have had many problems with my animations not playing properly, etc.

Having fixed those problems, I am now ready to add play and pause buttons to my animations, restart, etc.

Basically, my animations moving parts are all on the top layer, so when captivate pauses the slide, it will pause my animation too. This is not what i want as you cant set a slide to have infinite time. because my user may want to replay the animation for hours, technically he can't because the slide will eventually hit its own timer and the animation will freeze where it is regardless of its own actionscript, etc.

However, as i have read before, if i convert my animation into a symbol it runs even if captivate pauses. This is what i want, as i want the pause, restart buttons to be within the swf file, not captivate.

The problem is that, apparently, having animations with moving parts that are not the top layer causes problems, apparently (if this is true, then adobe is such a lier, boasting creative suite when the most basic functions of one aren't functional in another). So i don't quite know what the best way to do this is now.

My animation basically is a well kill process, in stages the animation runs then pauses to inform the viewer of some facts, they are presented with a resume button to continue, it plays after button is clicked then pauses on own, etc, etc, then at end it pauses on own and presents a replay button. Again, all of the moving parts are currently on the top layer.

Anyone know what my best path should be to achieve this without sacrificing playback quality, etc?
