[CS5.5]Generating IDML schema causes crash

I need to generate the IDML schema for Indesign CS5.5. This is done with a very simple one line ExtendScript:

app.generateIDMLSchema(File('~/Desktop/idml'),false);

This has worked as expected for CS4, but crashes Indesign CS5.5. The crash happens while the schema file datatype.rnc is being written. Other schema files are written correctly.

This is on Windows 7 computer.

[CS4/JS] Cannot find Folder.appData on a Mac

I'm using ExtendScript with InDesign CS4. Developing on Windows, but the users will also use Macs.

Everything works well on both platforms but I get inconsistent results with File and Folder objects on the Mac.

So this works perfectly on Windows:

var savePng = new File (Folder.appData +'/ProjectName/Resources/save.png');

But it fails on the Mac. Yes I believe that I have followed the instructions in the JavaScript tools Guide, so what am I missing. I admit to having very little experience of the way the Mac uses file and folder paths so perhaps it's obvious to some of you?

Can't read processing instructions from XML

I am trying to read the contents of some XML processing instructions using this bit of JavaScript:

XMLFile.open('r'); var readXMLFile = XMLFile.read(); XMLFile.close(); var book = new XML (readXMLFile);

var PIcontent = book.processingInstruction('pgw');

This should return the content of the PI such as <?pgw 8.5i?> which would hopefully mean that PIcontent === '8.5i'.

I thought I had found the source of the problem by using the static property XML.ignoreProcessingInstructions = false; but although that made the PI show up in book, it made no difference wth the handling of processing instructions.

I also tried using xpath, but again with no luck.

The cut-down XML looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE book SYSTEM "book.dtd">
<book xml:lang="en">
    <?pgw 8.5i?>
    <?pgh 11i?>
    <?slug true?>

<?info true?> <title>Example XML fragment</title> </book>

PDFXML and Type 3 fonts

Is there any known issue with creating PDFXML from PDFs that use Type 3 fonts? In some instances the conversion fails with the message "The file contains Type 3 fonts which are not converted to Mars format correctly."

Any idea if this is an expected problem?

Replace structure in tagged PDF

I have a large number of documents that have been made accessible, but with everything marked as an Artifact. This effectively makes the PDFs unaccessible. I do not have the source for these documents so I need to run a batch process that clears the page structure then runs Make Accessible.

I cant find any way to do this using JavaScript, perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place.

Cannot open Mars example files

The Example Mars files cannot be opened with the latest Arobat plug-in. Can we expect to see some updated examples?
