Bookmark Edit Gone on reopening file

I need help understanding why certain edits I make to the bookmarks in a pdf file dissapear and what I can do to prevent it.

I have a pdf file with some bookmarks in it that were created by the file's author. As I read and review the document, I want to add additional bookmarks of my own. I am using Adobe Acrobat X Standard.

Sometimes when I add bookmarks and save the file I find that when I reopen the file, all my bookmark edits are gone! The bookmarks have reverted to what they were when I received the file. Through trial and error I have narrowed down the circumstances under which this occurs to cases where I tried to put a new bookmark at the head of the bookmark list. In other words, it happens when I drag a new bookmark to the top of this list pane.

As long as the file is open there is nothing to show that anything is amiss. But, if I save the file, close the file, and reopen the file all the edited bookmarks will be gone and the only the original bookmarks will be there. Amazingly - to me - this is true even if I add a bookmark at the head of the list, save the file, do some more edits (maybe including adding other bookmarks elsewhere), save the file again, close the file, and reopen it. When I reopen it, all the bookmarks I've added will be gone.

It appears to be the case that this problem won't occur if I don't try to put a new bookmark in the first position.

I believe that others have encountered this odd problem before. There was a discussion that sounded like the same problem at http://forums.adobe.com/message/5367663#5367663, but I didn't see any sign of an answer there.

I would be grateful for any helpful suggestions that somebody might have.

John

Bridge Ignores .CR2 files in camera, but OK on Computer

I am having a problem using Bridge to see and/or transfer raw files (in .CR2 format) from my camera (Canon EOS20D) to my computer. When I open the window in Bridge to transfer pictures from my camera to my computer, all it "sees" are any .jpg files that are on the camera. It does not recognize in any way that I can discern the existince of the raw files. No icon, no preview, no nothing.

If I use the Canon software that came with the camera to transfer the files to folders on my computer, then Bridge sees them with no problem. I can browse them, I can open them in Camera Raw, I can open them in Photoshop. Once they get on the computer, they are fine.

I am using PS CS4. I have installed the latest version of Camera Raw (5.4). The computer runs Windows XP Pro, and Windows is all the way updated.

I have tried corresponding with Adobe Tech support who suggested: i) Installing the latest version of ACR. (They apparently did not read my query telling them that I already had the latest version installed. This has caused me to lose confidence in them.) ii) Purging the cache, which I did.

However, the problem persists.

I would be grateful for any helpful suggestions that any of y'all would be willing to make.

Thanks.

John
