RH11 Responsive HTML5 Rendering Delays?

I am using a trial of RH11 to investigate upgrading from RH9. We currently produce WebHelp but we're also thinking about trying Responsive HTML5 output since our application runs in IE and also Safari on iPad (the Webhelp on iPad, even that produced in RH11, has some issues with parts of the search tab being cut off from display...thus the thought to try Responsive ouput).

In the trial output of Responsive HTML5 used in IE, we experience delays anywhere from 3 to 5 sec up to 20 sec sometimes (usually less than 10 sec) as we use the interface. For example, when help first opens up and begins to display its content and interface components, there can be pauses until the content is finally displayed in the browser. Another noticeable delay time is anytime we happen to adjust our browser size on our desktops -- for example, maximize or downsize browser to fill up various amounts of the desktop screen so that we can see how the help layout adjusts itself given the amount of browser space available. This is in IE10 and 11. I did not expect such overhead or delays when trying out that help format. Webhelp ran from the same server doesn't have the delays.

Has anyone else experienced these Responsive HTML5 delays? If so, have you found any work arounds or settings in your help project or browsers that either contributed to the rendering delays or helped reduce the delays? I assume all the scripts that run behind the scenes are a factor. The delays occurred whether I used one of the standard screen layouts for the help or had made some adjustments to the layouts such as to its color scheme. With the delays we're experiencing now, the Responsive HTML5 help isn't as appealing an option as I had hoped.

Karen

RH 11 Imported Screen Layout Not Displaying in Gallery

Began using a trial of RH11 today and am experimenting with Responsive HTML5. I am trying to understand how to use a newly downloaded/imported screen layout while setting up a new single source Responsive HTML5 layout. I downloaded the screen layout from the Adobe site, which was a single file in a zip file. I unzipped the layout file to the same download folder and imported the extracted file into the Screen Layouts folder in the Project Set-up pod within RH11. Then while working in the Responsive HTML5 Settings window, clicked Gallery and expected to see the newly imported layout as an option there. The layout does not display. The layout name does display under the Screen Layouts folder folder in Project Set-up though.

How do I get the layout to display in the Gallery? I am wondering if I extracted the layout file to the wrong location? Does it have to be extracted to a folder within my project files such as the SSL folder or within the folder to which the RH11 trial software was installed? I assumed the Import process in Project Set-up would copy the layout file to wherever it was needed for it to work in Robohelp.

4/3 addition to original post -- adding a picture for reference regarding where I can't get the new layout to show. WIthout it showing here, how would I go about assigning the layout to my single source layout?

Message was edited by: KFarrelly

RH9 Search field/button expand out of view as search results load in safari

I create Webhelp output in RH9 with XP Blue skin. Primary viewing means are via IE where the Search panel functions fine. There are issues with the search panel when help is viewed in Safari on iPad. When search results populate the left panel, the length of the Search field and Go button in the panel expand right such that they are no longer visible. Some assumptions: (1) Text in the search results is forcing the expansion of the Search field/button as results fills up the space (characters from the results are cut off from view as well on right side of left panel). (2) This behavior is due to the frames associated with the Webhelp output.

Is anyone aware of a work around in RH9? I am not ready to upgrade to RH10, which I believe would potentially solve this and other issues related to output on Safari on iPad/Mac.

Note: I already have a fix for the partially hidden 'Search results per page' section in the second image thanks to the http://forums.adobe.com/message/2635086 posting.

IE example, no issue.

Safari on iPad example.

Regards,

Karen

RoboHelp HTML 9 Search Pane Max results controls

By default when our users do a search in compile dhelp, they see 10 search results per page. Is there a place in my RoboHelp interface where I can change that to larger number? I have found a line of code in a *.js file where it looks like I could manually change it, but would prefer not to have to do it that route in case that causes unintended hiccups elsewhere.

var nMaxResult = 10 ;

Second part of my question is related to statement in release notes/new features notes for RoboHelp 9 that state users can control the max search results per page on-the-fly as they use the Search pane. This feature only applies to WebHelp or WebHelp Pro and my output is WebHelp. I can see a line of code for that feature in the whfform.htm file but nothing shows up like that in the Search pane within compiled help. Is this a bug or is there a control somewhere in RoboHelp project settings that allows me to enable that option for users? The last 2 lines below would seem to control this area. The Search pane items referenced in first 4 lines do show up ok in my Search pane.

gsTitle = "Type in the word(s) to search for:";
gsTitle = "Type in the word(s) to search for:";
gsHiliteSearchTitle = "Highlight search results";
gsHiliteSearchTitle = "Highlight search results";
gsMaxSearchTitle = "Search results per page" ;
gsMaxSearchTitle = "Search results per page";

Thanks for any insight you can provide,

KF

scripts to open chm files

I have 7 chm files and I want to make each accessible from a
single topic in another chm file (my "base" chm help file). For
example, when a user opens topic 1 in the "base" help, that topic
would open for them and one of my other chm files would open in a
separate window. I am trying to do this by inserting a script into
each topic. I can't figure out the text or format for the script.
Has anyone tried this and can you send me an example script if so?
I know I could potentially merge the 7 chm files into the table of
contents of my "base" help, but that I am trying to match how the
files worked when they were created years ago in Winhelp format
using Doc-to-help (in which case an ExecFile script or command was
used in a topic to automatically open another Winhelp file).

Thanks in advance for any ideas,
