Locking/Unlocking Table of Contents Navigation in CP8

Hi all,

My client wants to have the Table of Contents lock/unlock for slides that were visited by the learner. So they shouldn't be able to skip ahead using the TOC, but they can click on any previous slide they've already visited and be able to jump to it. I know that with CP8, there is a new System Variable that makes this easier to accomplish than before, but how are you setting it up? On slide exit? And how are you writing up the action?

Can you still download Captivate 7?

My PC crashed and I need to install CP7 on my Mac to finish a project. I can't seem to find anywhere online where I can still download the old version. Is that possible at all? They don't want me to use CP8.

Can you link interactions to Google Drive?

I'm working on a project where I have a thumbs up/thumbs down and I want to report the interaction to a spreadsheet in Google Drive since I won't be hosting this in our LMS. I know you can do that with Lectora, but I don't know if it's possible with Captivate or how that would work.

Has anyone tried it before? I'm on CP8...

Captivate 8: Can you still change slide quality?

Hey,

I just downloaded CP8 and WOW is this interface different. It's taking me a while to find everything. I imported some images and they look pretty pixelated. They look fine in a preview. But I'm wondering if you can still set slide quality?

It's just bugging me that they look so pixelated as I work on it.

Knocking out the stroke on text

Hi,

I have read several other forum posts on how to knock out a stroke on text. I'm creating a logo and I want the stroke around two letters to be completely transparent. I don't just want to fill the stroke with the background color because I want whatever the background color is to show through the logo.

I've tried creating the text as outlines, using the appearance panel to add a stroke, changing the stroke layer to be under the Contents layer, and then applying a knockout group. I've also tried using the Pathfinder to exlude or divide the stroke.

I must be missing something because nothing is working. I didn't think it would be this hard. Could someone walk me through it?

Reporting the Same Score Regardless of Right/Wrong

Hi everyone,

This is a very odd request...my client, for some reason, wants to report the same score for the quiz regardless of whether it's right or wrong.

So, if the learner gets the correct answer, they get 1 point. If they get it wrong (even after giving them 2 attempts), they still want it to report 1 point.

It sounds like they don't want to change it to 0. I've already offered that as a solution.

They want the pass/fail settings to report 0%.

This request doesn't make any sense to me. It completely goes against the point of reporting a score.

Any ideas on how I should address this with them and give the same score regardless of right/wrong answers?

App Packager messing up Quiz slides

Hi,

I created an HTML5 course in CP7. I imported some Edge animations using App Packager, and it's messing with my quiz slides. I do have a Master slide background on those slides...(if that makes a difference).

It's hiding the radio buttons. All of my quiz slides are multiple choice. You can still click on an answer, press Submit, and then move forward, but you can't see any of the radio buttons to remind you which answer you selected.

Why would it be doing that? Is there a way that I can fix it?

Transparent Playbar in HTML5

Hi,

I am working in CP7 on an HTML5 course. I have created custom navigation, so I'm not using the playbar. However, in order to get the Closed Captioning to show up above my custom nav, I turned on the playbar, turned off all of the buttons, and made everything transparent.

Everything looks great if you watch the SWF version on a PC, but if you open the HTML5 version there is a thin, gray vertical bar that shows up in the bottom center area of the project (so it's clearly my transparent playbar).

Has anyone tried this before as a workaround to getting the Closed Captioning to show up higher than normal so it doesn't overlay on your custom nav? And is there anything I could do to remove that thin vertical line? I've tried changing the colors to match the background, but it still shows up in that same gray color.

Buttons stop working at end of project...

Hi,

I am working in CP7 and I haven't seem to run into this issue before. Maybe I just didn't notice...

I have several buttons on the last slide of my project. One is a shape button that is displayed for Rest of Project and opens a help caption. Another, is a click box displaying for Rest of Slide to open a survey link. Another click box to open a PDF. And then a button to Exit the course.

I noticed that when the slide ends (and the project is "over") the buttons no longer work. So if the learner were to wait until the audio finished to click anything, none of them work.

Is that normal? How can I change that?

My initial reaction was to extend the timeline, but I also don't want that to affect the learner completion. Would it? We're publishing to Adobe Connect.

iPad and the Mute button

I am using CP7 and publishing to HTML5 for use on the iPad 2. In all of our testing, the mute button does not work. Even when I have created a custom mute button.

How to toggle a caption?

Hi,

I am creating an HTML5 course and I can't figure out how to toggle a caption throughout the entire project. I'm using the latest version of CP7.

I have a shape button on my Master slide. And on my title slide, I have a caption that I named "help" that is not visible. At any point in the course, I would like for the learner to be able to click the Help button and display the help caption. When the button is clicked, it should pause the slide. When the button is clicked a second time, it should hide the caption and resume playing the slide. I have been able to accomplish this by adding another shape button to the help caption to close the course, but the client would prefer for the custom button that I created in the nav bar to display AND hide the help caption.

I know I will need to use advanced actions to accomplish this...can anyone help me out?

Is there a widget that allows you to import HTML pages in CP7? I've found widgets for older CP versions, but not for 7.

I'm trying to get Edge Animations imported into Captivate without using the App Packager because I need to place some click boxes on top of some of the animations.

Screens are freezing before quiz slides

Hi,

I am working with a course where the screen right before a quiz slide will freeze when you click Forward and it won't load the quiz slides. It doesn't happen for every browser, but its happening for the majority (IE 10,9; all versions of Chrome).

I'm using Captivate 7 on Windows 7 and testing in Chrome 32.

Has anyone experienced this before? I've never seen this happen.

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a course that someone else made. The screens are freezing during testing on the slides before the quiz questions. They don't freeze anywhere else. I noticed that that the previous developer has an "on enter" assignment for each of those slides and I don't know what it means.

Video is skipping beginning and end (Video best practices?)

Hi all,

I haven't worked with video all that much in my Captivate projects, but I'm currently helping someone else in fixing several courses where they have embedded video. I am using Captivate 7 in Windows. So I have two questions here...

1. When testing the course using Windows 7 in IE 10, 9, and in all versions of Chrome, the video is skipping the beginning and the end, and seems to be struggling to download the video. I have it set to progressively download right now. I believe they imported an m4v and from what I'm reading, we need to convert that to flv or f4v. Is that correct? How can we ensure that the video plays smoothly and plays the entire video?

2. I've been trying to find some video best practices documents out on the Internet for Captivate 7. Do you know of anything that I can use as a reference for using video in Captivate?

Click box is stopping the audio

Hi,

I am having an issue with a click box stopping the audio. I'm working on a PC in Captivate 7. I have a click b ox that is set up to open a PDF. Audio is imported to the slide that plays as the click box appears. During testing, if you click the click box while the audio is playing, it stops the audio. I do NOT have the option checked in the click box to "stop slide audio" when clicked. So I'm not sure what would be making the audio stop...

How can I get the audio to keep playing even after the click the click box?

Edit Points in a Slidelet (Cap. 6)

Hi,

I have searched all over in Help and online and I can't find out how to add more edit points to a rollover slidelet. I'm using Captivate 6 and I'm on a Mac. I found out that I can move the four edit points by holding down two fingers, but I need to be able to add more edits points to really shape the rollover area and I can't find that information anywhere.

Is it possible? And how do I do it?

Adding a logo to the playbar

Hi everyone,

I have a new template that I'm working with in my courses and I've customized my playbar to match the branding. What's bothering me is that it looks like our logo and copyright are "floating" above the Captivate playbar and I'd like to integrate those elements with the CP buttons if I can.

Is this possible? I would think it is, but I haven't been able to find any existing posts that can help me out with this. I'm using CP 5.5. I've tried searching through the Application files to find my saved playbars, but I can only find the CP template playbars.

Here's how it looks now...I'd like to push that logo and copyright to the bottom (and into the CP playbar itself).

Custom Pause Button...

I am trying to create a custom pause button in my course. I've created Closed Caption and Mute buttons before using variables and Advanced Actions, but I can't seem to get this one to work.

I created a Variable called playPause and gave it a value of 1.

Then I imported my play image and my pause image and named them.

I created a Conditional Advanced Action. I assigned my new variable to 0 and assigned the rdcmndPause to 1. Showed the play image and hid the pause image. Then I reversed all the for the Else condition.

Why doesn't it work?

Text entry in CP5 isn't working right...

I've created many text entries in the past, but this is the first time I've done them in CP5. Usually, I have the learner type the text and then press Enter (which takes them directly to the next slide). I don't like to use the Submit button because it ruins the integrity of the course (that's not something you'll see in the actual application you are learning about).

I'm attaching a screen shot of my settings for the text entry boxes I've created. Am I missing something? I do have another click box on my slide that takes the learner back one page. Could it be interfering with that?

I'm working in CP5 on a Mac and I can't see the slide duration in the timeline. It's cut off. I tried closing out the timeline panel and re-opening it. I tried dragging it up and down and I can't get the entire bar to show up. Has anyone had this problem?

Manually controlling the Closed Captioning

When I create CC in Captivate, I have it automatically scroll with the narration (as I'm sure most of you do). However, I am receiving feedback from my learners that they can read faster than it can scroll...and they will, of course, turn off the audio.

Besides just dumping all of the text into several lines of closed captioning (therefore taking up more real estate on my screen), is there any other way I can allow the learner to manually scroll their own closed captioning? Or any other ways in which you provide the CC content so the learner has more control over how fast/slow they read it?

Losing image quality after publishing

I've been working in Adobe Captivate since it first came out and I've never had this big of a problem before. I'm working on a course that based completely on screen shots of an application. I'm accessing that app on my PC and taking the screen shots with SnagIt. I resize the image in SnagIt and then transfer it over to my Mac where I have Captivate 5.

I import the image and everything looks super crisp. When I publish the file and then preview it on my PC (as all my learners will do), the screen shots are soft and I have to squint to make out some of the text.

I've tried importing the screen shots as bmp, jpeg, and gif...no real difference there. I changed my slide quality settings and didn't notice a real change there. And I modified my publishing settings.

What else can I try? I'd rather not push out a course where people have to squint...

Transparent Playbar isn't transparent

ACE Certification...CP4 no longer available?

I just dropped some cash to get some Captivate 4 ACE practice tests. When I went into Pearson VUE to sign up for the ACE test, it said they were no longer available for Captivate 4. Seriously?

My company isn't going to upgrade to CP5 and I didn't know they were going to discontinue the ACE for CP4 so soon. Did anyone else know this? Due to all of the changes in CP5, I'm not sure that it'll be worth it for me to take the ACE exam.

Any ideas? Anyone else mad about this?

Adobe's Upgrade Schedule

Hey everyone,

Do you know if Adobe releases an upgrade schedule for Captivate? It seems like new versions come out every year and while they are always worth upgrading, it costs our company a ton of money to upgrade all of our users every time. I want to make a case for us to upgrade to Captivate 5 because I want to be able to use it on my Mac and it does seem a lot more efficient with the new platform. However, if Captivate 6 is going to come out in six months or a year, I'd rather wait. We already upgraded everyone to Cap. 4 earlier this year and IT is starting to give me dirty looks when I even say the word Captivate now because they know I'll be asking for an upgrade.

Muting the Audio on the Second Visit

I am using a branching scenario and I've set up variables and advanced actions to make that happen (with a lot of help). I'm still not understanding the process for all of that, so I need another class.

Anyway, I have them returning to the same slide three times and I don't want the audio to play on the second, third, and fourth visits. Can someone give me the steps for completing this? If there's just too much to try and explain, I understand. I have notes from a class that I took where they did this same demo, but obviously the information didn't stick in my brain.

SCORM - Course won't send to transcript

Hey guys,

I'm new to SCORM, but luckily Captivate has made it pretty easy for me to do. I have my manifest file made and I've uploaded it to my LMS. However, I must be missing something in my Manifest file because the course won't send to the student's transcript on the last slide--it reads that it is still in progress.

This could be an issue within the LMS, but I have a feeling that its something I need to do within Captivate.

Any ideas or where I can go for the answer?

Maintaining Bookmarks in an LMS

Publishing to SWF changes the course size

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this problem, but when I publish my course, its changing the size of it. In my .cp file, I have the course set to 700x513 in order to fit in our LMS. When I publish, its coming out at 700x553 according to the HTML file.

Is the playbar affecting this? I don't have any borders on the course...

Background Audio (Running on select slides)

I have narration on most of my course and I want to run background music on six of the eight slides.

When I select background audio it adds the music to all of the slides and I don't want that. I tried to import it, but it only lets me put one audio file per slide. I am working with Captivate 4.

Any ideas?

Reviewer keeps freezing

I am trying to run the Cap. 4 reviewer. I've had four other people comment in the file and I can open it, but then it freezes every time. I closed all my programs and I'm hard wired and that didn't make it go any faster. Then I moved it off the network to my desktop and that did nothing.

It's only 6,000 KB. Any ideas on what I should do to get this thing moving?

Slides won't copy from one .cp to another...

I usually just create question slides once and then copy them from one .cp file to another when I need them. That way I can keep the background, fonts, and buttons intact.

Today, I was trying to copy a slide in Captivate 4 to a new course and it won't show a paste option in the new course. When I Ctrl+C in the old course, it shows that its copying the slide, but when I go to paste in the new course, it doesn't paste anything.

Any ideas? I made sure that nothing on the slide itself was locked, but that didn't do anything either.

AIR help font is really small

I am using Adobe Air to view the Help files for Adobe Captivate 4. It has been fine until today when the font became extremely small...it must be about a size 6 font. I can't seem to find out how to make it any bigger and it wasn't like this last week. Any ideas? I tried to resize the window, but that doesn't do anything.

Cap. 4 Playbar Borders and Buttons

Hey everyone,

I am trying to change the size of the playbar border. In Cap. 3, I had it at about 18 pixels so that the buttons were half on the border and the upper half on the course. In Cap. 4, I keep modifying the border size, but it doesn't change, it stays at about 30 pixels as you can see in the screen shot and I don't want it that big. Any idea on why it won't change for me?

Also, I noticed that the info button is gone...

Problem with the voice download for Cap. 4

I just downloaded the male and female voice to use with the text-to-speech feature in Cap. 4. However, I don't know where to place the folder from the download in order for Cap. 4 to recognize them.

Reader 8.1.2 Review Features Not Working

Hey everyone,

I am on Reader 8.1.2. I keep reading that in order for the Comments to be enabled, I need to set the rights when creating the PDF. However, I don't know where I need to set those rights and I can't find it anywhere in the help (this is a suggestion to Adobe to consider adding this as a help topic).

My current process for creating a PDF is to click Print in Microsoft Word and to choose Adobe PDF as the Printer. Within those settings, I don't see anywhere that I can set the rights for commenting.

Once the PDF is created and comes up in Reader, it doesn't give me the option to allow for comments. Plus, I would like to create a review meeting, but the help just tells you how to join a meeting, not how the author can set up the review for comments.

Any ideas?

Animations not working

I am trying to insert a pre-built animation on a slide, but it's not playing when I preview the course. I have used them in the past and everything worked fine, but for some reason they won't play when I insert them. I played around with my timeline, I tried synchronizing it, and I tried playing with the animation settings, but nothing is making it play.

Stop a slide from fading to white

Hey everyone,

I searched the forums and found a couple of older posts on this topic that no one replied to, so I am hoping that someone has solved this problem.

I have a transparent button on each slide that stops the slide from going to the next slide until the user clicks forward in the navigation. On the same slide, I have a button that links to a URL so when the user clicks the button for the URL, the slide starts playing again and fades to white.

I have the transparent button that stops the slide set to have "No Action." I have the click box for the URL set to open the URL in a new window and to pause until the user clicks. However, the problem is starting after the user clicks the link.

Any ideas on what I can do to truly stop this slide from playing and from fading out to white?

I am attempting to make my text roll back so that it basically looks like it's on a cube and the cube keeps flipping backwards.

I am using this in a template for my team so the text needs to be editable. Adobe put in some great text effects; however, none of them work for this purpose.

Revolving menu

I really want to create a revolving menu where you can see text in a circle on the screen and when you click arrows they rotate around and the active text becomes larger. I am terrible at ActionScript, no matter how hard I try, and I am wondering if anyone has come across this in a Flash library.

Placing an image from Photoshop

I am using InDesign CS3 and Photoshop CS3 on a PC with Windows XP SP2.

When I save the PNG in Photoshop it is a 6x6 in. image. When I place it into InDesign on its own layer it changes to 25 inches. I attempt to resize it and it just clips the image and eventually disappears.

What am I doing wrong?

Visible print lines

Thanks to everyone that helped me with importing and placing transparent images yesterday. So I got all of that to work out that way I wanted to, but now when I print it I can see the lines where the transparency ends so it's not coming out exactly transparent. I also imported a PSD of a transparent image and changed the opacity a bit and you can see the line where I did that when I print.

I can't see these lines when I am viewing it on the computer, so I'm stuck as to what I should do to make it look right.

I want to create a PDF that you can "flip through." I've seen it done before, but I'm not sure how to do it. I am creating a flyer and I want to send it electronically, but I want the readers to be able to still flip through the flyer as they would if it were in print. The way I have seen it done is there are arrows under the flyer and they click the forward arrow and the screen makes the image look like it's opening and then it displays the inside...same thing when they move to the back cover.

Anyone know how I can accomplish this?
