Where can I find the Script Browser tab?

I need to use the Script Browser function of Dir. 11.5.9. I am instructed to click Window, Script. Then select the Script Browser tab. But when I open the Script Window, I do not find a Script Browser tab. Can someone assist me?

Error 148.3?

My Director 11.5.9 suddenly will not launch. It brings up an error dialog box that says:

"This product has encountered a problem which requires that you restart

your computer before it can be launched.

If you continue to see this message after restarting your computer, please

contact either your IT administrator or Adove technical support for help, and

mention the error code shown at the bottom of this screen.

Error: 148:30

Has anyone seen this before?

Xtras Errors

I have an ongoing problem with random Xtras errors. When some movies begin, a box pops up that says the "text xtra is either missing, or didn't initialize properly. Please be sure all the appropriate Xtras are in the Xtras folder." Or, it is often some other Xtra. No amount of juggling with putting them in the Xtras folder, or including them in the projector seems to make any difference. It seems that more times than not, when I make a projector, I get into that loop and can't seem to get out of it. I imagine I am doing something wrong, but I make notes, and try to do things the way that worked before each time. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

I never have really understood just how to determine which Xtras are really needed by a movie, and whether they go into the Xtras folder, or should, or should not be, included in the projector. What is the exact procedure for including the proper Xtras, and placing them where they belong? And perhaps I am not utilizing the Publish Settings properly as well...?

Those problem seem to occur on the Macintosh mostly. It is running OS Mavericks. I have very little problem with them on my Windows machines running Win7-64.

is there a way to port director movies as apps without using x code?

I have many years of experience with Director, but no experience with C++ or Xcode. As I understand it, there is a long, steep learning curve on X without a good foundation in C++. Is there a way around using it? Does it require a lot of
Xcoding, or just an interface, etc.?

How do I determine what xtras are needed?

From the searching I have done it appears that xtras equired are mostly trial-and-error.

Is there an efficient way to determine what xtras are needed for each lindividual movie?

My programs are divided into a series of sequential movies. At the end of each movie

there is a goto statement to launch the next movie. Does that require me to determine

xtras for each separate movie?

In a perfect world there would be a way for Director to search a folder for and present an aggregate list of all xtras required for that set of movies.

If no such method exists, what is the recommended hunt and peck system?

Why would a Standard Projector call for Shockwave

I have 30 titles authored in Director and updated to Dir. 10.5.9. I have both Mac and Windows versions. In 20 yrs. I have never put any shockwave content into any of these programs. Yet, suddenly, I shipped CDs to two Mac customers who both have the same problem.

I included Standard projectors in all the CDs, tested them on our Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion. Both customers have either Lion or Mountain lion on their Macs. Yet, when they loaded the programs and double clicked on the projector, an error message came up saying the program was unable to find Shockwave. ??? That has not happened in 20 years of selling and upgrading these programs. And it still isn't happening on our Macs with the same OS. Yet two of our latest customers both have that problem.

Even more mysterious is that one of the customers downloaded Shockwave 12 and it wouldn't work, so she found a place to download Shockwave 11 and her programs startted working. Yet, theyi are not shockwave programs or projectors. They shouldn't need Shockwave at all.

Has anyone ever heard of that happening before? Can someone offer some suggestions of what I might try to fix it? Since there is no shockwave content in the programs or the projectors, I don't even know where to start.

Bar across bottom of screen

I run Dir. 11.5.9 with Win 7, 64 bit. There is a bar running across the bottom of the stage in my movies that sometimes partially obscures navigation buttons near the bottom of the screen. I never had that problem in any other version of Director. Does anyone else have that? Does anyone know of a fix for it?

I'm running Director 11.5.9 on Windows7, 64 bit with Intel Core i7-2600K CPU @ 3.4GHz with 16 GB RAM.

I'm trying to insert some videos into an existing Director program written in 640x480 rez. A QT movie looks awful at full screen. AVI doesn't run at all. Some mpeg xtras no longer work with Director 11, so what formats do I have available to work with in Director 11?

Am I to understand that Director 12 offers some tools for porting Director movies as apps to i-devices? Can someone say more about that? For heaven's sake, there is a new version of Director our and Adobe isn't even promoting it? What in the world is going on here? I cannot imagine releasing a new version of a product and not even promoting it!

Where can I read about it and find out about it's capabilities? What does it offer? What does it cost? Is there a trial download? Where?

How can I Find/Replace a word on all cast members together rather than one at a time?

I currently use Director 11.5.9 with Windows 7 64 bit

I have some director movies I programmed years ago. I included the file extension .dir when I used "go to movie" statements (I didn't know any better at that time). For example, I would write, go to movie "alpha.dir". I have now updated those movies to Director 11.5.9 and want to protect them by updating them to .dxr movies. Obviously, the code "go to movie name.dir" won't work any more. I need to take out the .dir extensions from every occurance in those movies. Most all of them are cast scripts on buttons. A few of them appear in score scripts.

In searching this forum, I did find some tips for search/replace on ALL cast scripts, but when I attempted to follow them I did not find the options they suggested on the drop down menus.

Can someone tell me the steps for going into a Director movie and telling the Find and Replace function to replace ALL occurences of ".dir" in Cast Scripts with ""?

Currently, I am having to find them manually and replace them one at a time. There are a LOT movies with a LOT of occcurences of .dir, so this is far too slow. I'm sure it can be done more efficiently.

Any help than anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated. I have a project that is coming due very soon and I don't want to delay it if possible.

I have large large gaps on my pages between lines, blocks of text, graphics, etc. I need to know how to "view" the code that creates those gaps and adjust the code to eliminate them.

Missing Font Error Message

I am using the Arial font to place some text on some pages. I have done this same thing many times before. However, I suddenly am getting an error dialog box when I open the pages that says:

Missing Fonts

This movie uses fonts that are not available on this system.

Director will use a default font to display the following:

Matisse ITC

I can click the OK button on this dialog box and the program continues to run properly. However, it's annoying to the users, and looks unprofessional, so I 'd like to be able to fix it.

Here's the odd part; I don't even have a font called Matisse ITC in my director list of installed fonts. And none of the text I have entered on the various pages use anything but Arial. So why is the system suddenly looking for a font called Matisse ITC, and how to do I fix this issue to stop the error dialog box from popping up every time these pages are opened?

Mac path statements

I need a mac computer to locate a file on its CD drive. I don't know how to write the mac path statement. The operating system is OS Lion, by the way. Basically, the file resides on a CD called July Research in a folder called JFYData. Inside that folder is a file named 31854%75.rtf. If I wanted the program on the Mac to access the CD in the drive, find the TstData folder, and see if it contains 31854%75.rtf, what is the Mac syntax for the path statement?

New use for Zinc 4?

If Adobe let's Director wither on the vine, could we convert our .dir movies to Shockwave and create crossplatform projectors with Zinc 4? I have not used Zinc, so I don't know exactly what its capabilities are. So, my question is, could Zinc be a viable tool for "rescuing" our existing Director movies if necessary? Or perhaps it might even be used for creating cross-platform projectors now, if needed?

Maybe someone with some Zinc experience could enlighten me. I have 30 titles that I market, and I'm a bit nervous about the way Adobe is treating Director like an unwanted stepchild.

Creating Buttons in Dir. 11.5.9

I've been using the buttons tool menu in Director for 18 years with no problems. Now, in this new version of Director, I can't get buttons to work any more. Example: I click on the pushbutton icon in the tool menu. and put a button on the stage. I select the button and click on the background color icon, select a color, but the button background color does not change. I try to place a cursor in the button so I can type a label on it, but I cannot get a cursor to appear. So, I can't label the button, and I can't change its colors. Am I the only one with this problem, or is it a known problem with (hopefully) a solution?

mpg video won't run now

I have an mpg video embedded into one of the pages on my web site. I recently upgraded to windows 7 64 bit, and to Director 11.5.9. The video now doesn't load or run. Is there something special I need to do in either Win7 64, or in Dir. 11.5.9 to correct that?

Mac OS Lion creates alias instead of copying files/folders

I placed some files from a PC onto a flash drive and tried to copy them to a folder on a Mac. I used Copy and Paste (keyboard shortcuts, right click and selecte Copy/Paste functions, and also Copy and Paste from Edit in the menu bar). As I recall, I also tried drag and drop.

All of those methods had the same results; Instead of actually copying the files into the folder on the Mac, the Mac simply placed an alias for each of them into the folder. ??? I tried the same files and the same flash drive on another MAC, and they copied and pasted with no problem.

Is there a setting for that, or is there something wrong with the other Mac? Can someone shed some light on this?

Why does Mac OS Lion ask for Shockwave with Standard Projector App?

Updating .dir movies after update to 11.5.9 on Lion OS

I am using a Mac with the Lion OS. I just completed purchasing/installing Director 11.5 and updating it to 11.5.9. I am trying to update Director movies created in Director MX to 11.5.9. It says it is having trouble saving the files. I'm not sure I have correctly chosen the code page it asks for pertaining to what the movies were created in. I have tried both the default Mac and default Win pages, but neither will work. I'm not sure what page to select, or if that is even the problem. Can someone give me a hand on getting these .dir files updated? My programs won't run on lion until I get this done, and people are waiting.

Is there a standard script that runs when a projector stops?

I know there are a couple of scripts I can use to set things up when starting a Director movie (startMovie and PrepareMovie). But are there also scripts I can use that run when the user chooses to shut down a projector? I want to run a script that sets the user's screen rez back to its original setting before shutting the projector down.

Button scripts not working

I don't think we're in Kansas any more, Toto. I've been programming with Director ever since version 3.0, and I can't make my buttons work in Director 11. I realize they are now Flash components, and I realize that may present a whole new set of rules for the game. Right now, I have a test movie set up to experiment with the Buddy API xtra for desplay resolution set and reset. The first movie has a button labled "Continue". It has a sprite script that says,

on mouseUp me

go to movie "nextMovie2"

end

The movie entitled "nextMovie2" has a button with a sprite script that says,

on mouseUp me

quit

end

Neither of those scripts works. The buttons highlight when you click them (as long as the mouse is down), and unhighlight when you release the mouse, just as they should. But nothing happens.

There is no manual, of course, and the help files are, well, shall we say, a bit unrewarding to search through?

Can someone tell me what I'm missing, please?

Adding xtras in Dir 11.5.9

In previous versions of Director, all I had to do to "install" a new xtra was copy and paste it into the Director application's Xtras folder. I'm currently attempting to "add" an xtra that way to a project. Yet, when I click Add, the xtra doesn't show up in the list, even though it is in the Director application's Xtras folder. Am I missing something?

I have tried just copying and pasting the xtra into the Xtras folder in my project folder. But the projector can't find it. This also happens to be an xtra that needs to be included in the projector, and I published the projector with the "Include in Projector" box checked. Nevertheless, it can't find it.

Download from internet with lingo

Can I write lingo that will allow a Director movie to download a file from the internet and put it, say, onto the desktop of the user's computer? I don't mean in a "stealth" fashion. I mean a Director movie that the person chooses to run because they want to download that file.

I tried downloadNetThing, but from the example in the manual, I can't seem to get the syntax sorted out properly, or there is some other problem. Here's the code I'm currently trying:

Read/Write Registry in Windows 7

Still having trouble writing to the registry from Director in Windows 7. Anyone know how to set permissions in Windows 7, or have other ideas what the problem may be? The code is ok. It works to read from the reg, but not to write to it.

I'm getting more familiar with Buddy API now. Some of it is coming back to me. But there is an issue that may not be related to that Xtra. I find that I cannot write to the registry. This is my first exposure to Windows 7, so I'm wondering if it's a permissions issue, or??

Here's a sample code:

set OK = baWriteRegNumber("PVOUT", "OVR",99,"HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT")

When I check my registry, the KEY named "PVOUT" is not there. If I go into regEdit and create the KEY manually, then run the above code string, it does not write 99 into it.

If I manipulate the registry directly, I can read from it with Lingo. But I cannot write to it with Lingo.

Very frustrating. Any ideas?

I searched the thread by that name, but didn't find an issue that was close enough to mine to solve my problem. After a couple of years, I am back on a project that uses the buddy api xtra. I am rusty on its implementation, so I may be doing something glaringly obvious that is causing the problem.

The first thing I want the program to do is take a peek into the registry and see if a Key is there called PVUD/2d.. If it doesn't exist, then write it and set its value to 0.

If it does exist, then leave its value alone and jump to frame "compare".

Can you enlighten me on what I'm doing wrong?

It appears that the new iPad from Apple is going to be a hot item. We already have customers asking if ouir programs will run on it. Does anyone know whether or not the new version of Director has the capability of making projectors that will run on the iPad? Or, is there perhaps an iPad app in existence, or in process that will allow them to run?

How can I get video clips to play in a browser?

Scenario: A client visits my Web site. A shockwave movie plays automatically. It contains a video clip. When the SW movie encounters the frame containing the movie clip, it simply skips over it and continues. The video never plays. I have tried avi, windows media, mpeg and quicktime with the same results.

I have found that the video plays fine as long as I open the director movie with Director. But when I open it with a browser, the video clip does not play. I have tried Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers.

Does someone know what I am missing to make the video play in a browswer?

File I/O Xtra

I need to put code on a CD that will allow a user to launch a Director movie a given number times. Once that number is exceeded, the movie would not launch and an error message would inform them of the expiration. I would need to write a file to their hard drive that would keep track of the number of launches and direct the playback head to the "expired" frame once the number of launches is exceeded.

I can probably use the fileI/O Xtra that comes with Director MX, but I can find no information on how to use that Xtra. Is there a tutorial somewhere that might help me?

Xtras - why?

Is there a way to discover why a particular director movie "requires" a certain Xtra? In trying to make Mac projectors I am maing the hqx file on the PC and running it on the Mac to spawn the projector. All is well until I run the projector on the Mac. An error dialog box comes up saying the program requires a certain projector that either doesn't exist or didn't initialize properly. Please be sure to have appropriate Xtras in the Xtras folder. The Xtra indeed is in the Xtras folder in the same folder as the Director movie. But it's one I copied over from the Xtras folder on the PC. In fact, I just copied the entire XTras folder from the working PC version over to the Mac. Can Xtras not be interchanged that way?

1. How can I discover what Xtras a program requires?

2. How can I eliminate the need for a particular Xtra (how can I find out what the "need" actually is)?

3. Can an Xtras folder be copied over from a working Windows .dir movie and be expected to work on a Mac version?

Authoring Problems in Vista

Display Resolution Set Xtra

Can someone recommend a good Xtra for setting the user's monitor resolution? I own and old one from Andrade, but it doesn't work properly with Director MX. When I tried to purchase an upgrade I found Andrade no longer exists.
