How do I use the NOT boolean operator in WebHelp output

I am using RH 11 and am trying to figure out how to use the NOT boolean operator in my WebHelp out.

For example, when I type "Body NOT text" (no quotes), I get the following message:

"The words you typed is not a valid expression."

Am I doing something wrong here or does this not work?

Is there a way to create favourites in a chm file that was converted from a WebHelp file?

I am using RH 11. We generally output our help projects to WebHelp, but we still have a few .chm outputs.

Marketing has provided us with a new branding for our Help projects. We implemented the new skin for the WebHelp and then applied this skin to the chm outputs.

This works really well. The only issue is that in the new chm output, we no longer have access to the Favourites functionality.

Does anyone know how to add this functionality or a workaround to create favourites in this new chm output?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Does the fix for WebHelp issues in RoboHelp versions 10 and 11 work when accessing Help from a Web Server?

I am using RoboHelp 10 with the latest WebHelp fix.

I copied the files in the fix to the specified folder in the instructions, regenerated the Help, and tested my WebHelp on IE 8-11.

When viewed locally, the WebHelp output seems fine.

The Help is accessed by our users from a web server, so I put up the newly generated output on our web server and tested the output and this is what I found:

IE 8: Index and Glossary take 3-4 seconds to load, which i guess i okay.

IE 9: Index and Glossary take 3-4 second to load. Index entries are too big and use a different font.

IE 10: When you click a topic in the Search pane, you get a blank page. When you click an entry in the Index you get a blank page. After using the Index/Search and then go back to the Contents page, you get a blank page.

IE 11: Index entries are cut off

Has anyone else run into these issue? I can live with the issues on IE 8/9/11, but the blank pages on IE 10 are unacceptable. Does the fix not resolve these issues or am I doing something wrong? Why would the fix work locally but not when accessed from a web server?

Any info would be very much appreciated.

How can I best manage Image Files in FrameMaker using TFS?

I am using FrameMaker 11 with Team Foundation Server 2010 and have a question about managing graphics.

We have several people working on the same book file (all in different locations).

Everything works very well except we kept running into issues with the graphic files.

We used to import all the graphics by reference, but it became difficult to manage the graphics outside of the frame files using TFS.

We have since copied the graphics into the Frame files which makes the file sizes very large.

I am wondering if anyone has experience with this and knows of a better way to manage the graphics.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Topics created by other writers using TFS and RH do not appear in the project

I am using Robohelp HTML 10 and TFS 2010.

We are 4 writers trying to work on the same project.

The project was successfully added to TFS and was working well with one writer.

The other writers have recently started working on the project, but I noticed that topics created by other writers do not appear my version of the RH project.

You can see here the files that were added to the TOC, but these files do not appear in my project.

The files are in TFS and appear in my local working folder, but not in my project. When I generate the WebHelp, it finds the missing files.

I had to import the files into my project to see them. This seems to defeat the purpose of using source control with many writers working on the same project.

Is there something that we need to set up to make this work properly?

Has anyone seem this before? Any help would be much appreciated.

What is the Adobe Technical Communication Suite 4.0 Content link for?

I just upgraded to Tech Comm suite 4.

My IT guy went to the Adobe site to download the package and supposedly there are two downlinks:

1. Adobe Technical Communication Suite 4.0

2. Adobe Technical Communication Suite 4.0 Content

He was asking me what the content link was for and if I needed it.

Anybody know?

RH9 in TFS Crashes When Trying to Add an Index Keyword to a Topic

I am using RH 9 with TFS (Visual Studio 2010) on a Windows 7 64 bit system.

My project is checked in to TFS and is running well.

However, when I add an index keyword to a topic (Topic Properties > Index tab), and click Apply, RoboHelp crashes.

I get the following error:

I have other writers using RH and TFS and they don't experience this problem.

Has anyone seen this before and any ideas how we can solve this?

Automatically expanding all drop-down and expanding text in a project.

I am using RH8. The project I am working on has a lot of drop-down text and expanding text. I was wondering if there was an easy way to auto-expand all the text within the project.

Any information on how I might be able to do this without manually doing it would be much appreciated.

Creating context-sensitive HTML Help without using Map #s

I am uisng RH 8 and am producing a compiled HTML Help file.

I am wondering if there is another way to call a topic from our application without using the MAP numbers in RH.

The developer would like to use the MAP ID (string) instead.

Is there a way to do this?

When I rename a paragraph style can I automatically apply it to the paragraphs using the old style?

I am using RoboHelp 8.

I want to rename a paragraph style from Body to Bodytext (because the new css we have to use uses Bodytext).

When I rename the Body style to Bodytext, all my body text switches to the Normal paragraph style.

Is there no way to automatically apply the Bodytext style to all paragraphs that were using the Body style?

I am trying to avoid having to apply the style to each paragraph individually which would take forever.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Creating Links between FrameMaker books

I am trying to setup a series of links from a Getting Started document to the User's Guide.

I can create the links easy enough in Framemaker by creating a cross reference. The links work find in Framemaker, but as soon as you create the PDF the link is broken. This actually makes sense to me because it doesn't know where to find the other PDF. Is there a way to create these links in Framemaker so they don't get broken in PDF.

I am using FrameMaker 9.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Glossary Tab Content is not Showing in .chm on Windows 2008

We just discovered that our Glossary content is not showing in the our compiled .chm help files on Windows 2008 64 bit.

We made sure that the HHActiveX.dll was on the machine and registered it, but it still does not display the content on Windows 2008 64 bit machines. We did the same procedure on Windows 2003 and the Glossary content is now displayed. It also seems to work on Windows 2008 32 bit, so I assume that this is a 64 bit issue. Is this a known issue? Is there a workaround?

We are currently using RoboHelp 8 (Technical Communication Suite 2) to generate the .chm files.

Any information would be very much appreciated.

Removing fonts from a Frame document

I am using Framemaker 9 with the latest update.

Whenever I save a file as a PDF, I get the message that the Helvetica and Times fonts are not available and are replaced with some other fonts.

I am not using Helvetica or Times. When I do a search for these fonts in the document, I can't find them. I looked in the .mif file and these fonts are not there either.

I find this very annoying. Is there any way to get rid of these fonts once and for all.

RH4FMver9 message when opening FrameMaker

When I tried to close FM the other day, my computer bluescreened.

I rebooted and everything works fine, but when I start FM now, I get the following message:

FrameMaker: entry for client RH4FMver9 is missing fields (4 required)

Does anybody know what this means and what I should do to resolve the issue and get rid of it? FM seems to work find, but I assume it has to do with the link with RH, even though I am not using RH at the moment.

I am using Tech Comm Suite 2 and I just upgraded to Frame 9 patch 3.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Fonts Missing on AdobePDF printer

I just installed an evaluation copy of FrameMaker 9.

Our company is using Helvetica fonts, but for some reason the AdobePDF printer does not have this font and substitutes the font for arial whenever I try to PDF a document. How can I get the AdobePDF printer use these fonts?

Any help would be much appreciated as I can't PDF anything at the moment.
