FM 11.0.2 suddenly totally unresponsive

I'm running FM 11 on the following Windows 7 machine:

Core i7 with 16Gb RAM

I also have the following CC apps installed:

Photoshop

InDesign

Illustrator

Premiere Pro

I was working on a FM doc yesterday no problem. Today FM seems to be totally unresponsive, apart from being able to open, save and close books and or files. I can't enter text, scroll down a page or use the navigation keys. No other Adobe apps seem to have been affected. Anyone else had this issue?

2 separate lines of text in DocumentWatermark.jsx

I'm trying to implement the above sample script in InDesign CS5.5, and I was wondering whether there was a way to have 2 lines of text.

At present you just have one line - myDocument.watermarkPreferences.watermarkText = "Confidential";

I'd like to have a new line underneath, i.e. Not for redistribution

Do I just need to place a new function under the existing and play about with the Horizontal and Vertical Offset?

RoboHelp 10 Crashes consistently when trying to delete linked FM11 book

I have a linked project where RoboHelp absolutely refuses to display part of a topic and some of the images. So I decided to delete the linked FM book file and start again from scratch (this was a FM10/RH9 project originally). This causes RH to crash consistently. Any ideas?

RH 9 Mangles single XREF from FM 10 page

I have a linked project from FM10 to RH9

One one single page, a single Heading 3 is being mangled by the RH import, and for the life of me, I don't know why. There are other Heading 3's on this page which come across fine. For example:

<p class="FM_Heading3"><a name="XREF_33020_System_Preferences"></a>System Preferences</p>

But one (it is only this one!) comes in like this:

I've even removed the whole section from the document and input again from scratch, but it keeps doing it. Why would it try and link to the related FM file? In Design view it flags it as an unknown tag

Auto populate a table cell with some text

I'm a long time FrameMaker user who is starting to get to grips with InDesign (CS5.5). I have a question about tables.

In FrameMaker I create a 2 column 1 row table style to create a formatted Note style. The left hand cell uses a Paragraph style that has the text Note: in the Autonumber format field (see screenshot).

This means when I add the table to a document, the text Note: is added automatically, formated as per the paragraph style.

I have tried the following approach in InDesign:

I've created a new Table style (2 column, 1 row)

I've created a Cell style for the left hand cell. This references a Paragraph style with the folowing set up in the Bullets and Numbering section.

However, the text "Note:" will not appear automatically in the left hand cell, unless I enter a letter, number or character, which rather defeats the object. I'm assuming that there is a way for InDesign to do what I want, but I just haven't found it yet? Any pointers appreciated!

RH9 Custom skin files broken in RH10

I.ve just imported a RH9 Web Help project into RH10. This upgraded without a hitch and can be viewed in all browsers necessary

However I'd created a custom skin and had modified the following files:

whskin_frmset01.htm

whskin_mbars.htm

whskin_tbars.htm

whstart.js

When I overwrite the generated files with my amended versions, all that is displayed is the top tool bar. No TOC, content or anything, and the search/index is also broken. I'm guessing that these files have been altered somewhat in RH10?

Upgrade Question

Having just successfully upgraded to Version 4 from version 3, I was wondering whether it is safe to uninstall TCS3 from my machine? As I have version 5.5 of Photoshop as part of Creative Suite, I wouldn't have a problem removing TCS3 if I can do so without any issues.

RH 9 AIRHelp Browser based help requiring pop-up blockers turned off

On Firefox and Chrome, but not in IE!

I've just handed off a browser based AIRHelp system to the software developers. I've tested it on my machine on Firefox and IE and have never had any problems with pop-blockers.

This is what they are appending to index.htm for the CSH call

#<id=7>>newwnd=false

However the 2 developers have not been able top get the CSH IDs to work unless Firefox and Chrome have them turned off.

Anyone any ideas?

Lost link to FrameMaker Book

I have my RoboHelp project with a linked FrameMaker book checked into a Mercurial source control repository. The original machine I was working with (XP) was starting to blue screen regularly, so I was given a new Windows 7 64 bit machine.

Having cloned my repository, I opened up the RoboHelp project to find the FrameMaker book link had disappeared, but with the last Update folders for each chapter present. I linked the FrameMaker book again, and this created a new lot of output folders when generating the output (WebHelp). The help system is not picking up the new files, only the existing ones, and I can't seem to delete the old folders.

Anyone else had a similar issue?

Autonumbering sequence failing for one chapter in a book FM10

I have a series of appendices in an unstructured book (A, B, C etc).

For each screenshot I have set up a Caption Paragraph style with the following autonumber sequence - Figure: <$chapnum>.<n+>

This works fine for each chapter except one (H), where it works fine up the 3rd instance, then goes back to Figure:H.1 and repeats 1 for each subsequent instance. There is only Flow A, so It's not that. This is not even the last chapter and all before and after work as nature intended.

Anyone any ideas what migh be causing this?

Language settings

This should probably be filed under stupid questions, but I was asked to investigate anyway by my current client. This is not my idea!

Can I re set the language for FrameMaker 10 from English to Japanese on an English version of Windows XP and then open a FrameMaker book (English) and insert Japanese characters to replace the existing English text? And what affect would this have when printing to PDF?

Would I, for example, need to change the default language on Windows (the language packs have been installed) to Japanese?

The idea is for a Japanese person to remote desktop into the machine and translate the English FrameMaker files. I repeat, not my idea!!!

Links to open PDF not working in WebHelp RH TCS3

In my FM files I want to create links to open a pdf file (ideally at named destinations, but that seems a distant dream )

In RoboHelp I have included the PDF in my baggage folder (in it's own folder, called PDF)

My Go to URL link in FM is: message URL PDF/ICM_User_Manual.pdf

The link seems ok as far as the view source for the .htm file is concerned

The help is being served from a folder on a Tomcat web server, if that makes any difference.

However, the link does not display as a hyperlink (no hand is displayed). I've tried all kind of things to make it work, but to no avail.

Having searched the forums, I haven't come across a definitive answer as to:

A. Whether this actually works in a linked project.

B. If it does work, what the correct syntax is in FM to persuade the link inn RH to do as it should?

Pressing Enter in Search field doesn't work (Chrome, RH9)

Just spotted that entering a search term and pressing Enter does nothing in Chrome. Clicking Go works fine. Pressing Enter works on both IE (V8) and Firefox (V6.0.1). Anyone know of a workaround?

W3C markup validator doesn't like FM 10 HTML DOCTYPE

My current client is using InstallAnywhere for their software installer. It has the ability to display help (in HTML) for the individual install screens. So I put some FM pages together and used the Save As HTML option.

InstallAnywhere didn't like the HTML pages and refused to display them (even though they display fine in Chrome, Firefox and IE). So I put the files through the W3C markup Validator.

The Validator wouldn't recognise the FM DOCTYPE - <!DOCTYPE HTML FM_PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0//EN"><HTML>

I had to change it to the 4.01 Transitional DOCTYPE - <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" to make it happy. Even then, it didn't like the <BODY BGCOLOR="#ffffff"> tag

Question I have is, can I change the DOCTYPE setting somewhere to the Transitional one, so I don't have to keep amending these files every time I update.

ePub output - bulleted lists mangled RH9

I was pleasantly surprised when doing an investigation in to outputting to ePub format, that everything seemed to be transformed quite nicely, even my tables, which according to what I read don't get handled too well by the ePub output.

But (there's always a but!), as seems invevitable, bulleted lists don't work, with the bullet appearing in the text, as below.

All lists in my project are affected. As this is a linked FrameMaker project which normally outputs to WebHelp, is there anything I can to to change this?

Context Sensitive ID Opens wrong help section RH9

I have a help ID that when accessed via the software, displays the incorrect help section. I've checked everything, from the FM source, to the link assigned in the Map file, to the ID being called in the software. The URL in the browser window is also correct

It always opens the same (incorrect) part of the help, but the section it opens is not even close to the correct section.

I now what it is doing, but not a clue why!

I have a section called Additional Frames, which is repeated numerous times throughout the FM chapter. When RH pulls these in, it numbers them Additional_Frames1, Additional_Frames2, etc.

The link is set to Additional_Frames10 in the Map file. However when the help is being called from the software, the URL is this:

.../Additional_Frames5.htm#XREF_39786_Attribute_Editor

The XREF is correct, but it thinks it is Frames5 not Frames10

I note that the script requires 7-zip to be installed. If I have another zip tool (WinZip or Izarc) can that be used instead, or does it have to be 7-zip?

Conditional Text setting for FM Xref ignored by RH (TCS3)

I have some Xrefs in my linked FrameMaker book that I don't want to appear in the help, as they go to parts of the PDF version, that I dont want in the help system. However RH seems to to have problems with the Xref, and the text appears in the Help build. If I convert the Xref to text with the same condition applied, it doesn't show in the Help.

Anyone any ideas?

Custom button to URL using target="_blank" RH9

Hi,

Ive got a custom button in my Navigation toolbar that links to a web site. I'd like the site to launch in a new tab/window, but I can't seem to use target="blank" when modifying the code in whskin_tbars.htm

Does anyone have a JavaScript action that would do this, or is it not possible?

It would be nice for the user not to lose the help when being sent to the site.

Build Tags applied to TOC being lost TCS3

I have a chapter in my linked FrameMaker book, that I don't want to appear in the help. I've used a build tag (auto converted from the FM Conditional Text) that I have applied to the chapter. When I generated the help, a TOC book structure isauto generated for that chapter. I applied the same build tag to the TOC book, and this works fine, as long as I don't close the project.

When I do close and re-open the project, the build tag setting is no longer applied to the TOC book, but is still applied to the FM chapter. THE TOC setting seems to override the FM file setting and the chapter is visible in the help.

Is there a way of keeping the build tag applied to the TOC book, the way it is to the FM chapter?

Stop Auto Play in Aggregator project (CP5)

I've got a collection of software demos that I thought would be useful to bring together in an Aggregator project. Having done this, when I launch the project, the movies in my TOC automatically run, one after the other.

I set my individual projects not to Auto Play in the Start End Settings, but this hasn't made a difference.

Ideally, I want the first movie to auto play, then let the user select which of the others they want to view.

I'm assuming I'm missing something basic here, but I can't suss it out

Captivate 5 to PowerPoint 2003.

The ppt file plays fine when in slideshow mode, but if I save the file as a pps (PowerPoint Show) the movie doesn't play automatically and I get a blank screen. If I right-click on the pps, the Play option isn't selected (even though I've selected the property as true in PowerPoint). If I then select Play, the movie starts.

I'm assuming this is a Flash Player security issue, but I thought I'd ask in case there is a way around it?

Adding a hyperlink to text in a Master Slide (V5)

I have a master slide that contains a web url (in text). As the Click Box Option isn't allowed on a master slide (not sure why?), is there any way of creating a hyperlink to the text in that master slide, rather than me having to manually add the click box to the slide when used in the project?

More Bulleted List Weirdness (TCS3)

I have a linked FrameMaker book into my RH9 project. I'm using the RHStyleMapping.css for all my topics. My Frame styles are linked to a RH style (source) and I'm using the 'convert Autonumber to HTML List' setting for both levels. I'm outputting to AIRHelp browser based help.

In Frame I have 2 levels of bulleted lists.

My converted styles are:

p.FM_Bulleted

p.FM_Bulleted_indent

When these topics are converted, something strange is happening to my second level indent. Here is the style used in a section of a numbered list:

This is how it should be.

However, where I have used the same style in the middle of my first level bulleted list, it comes out like this (from Telnet to rlogin):

When I look at the HTML for the generated page (the WYSIWYMG is ok), what seems to be happening is that the '_' between Bulleted and indent in p.FM_Bulleted_indent is being removed when included as part of a bulleted list, causing the problem.

Any ideas how this can be happening?

Can't change Start Page in Browser based AIRHelp (TCS3)

I have changed the Start Page for an AIRHelp project (from index.html), but despite the new html page being launched (as shown in the browser), the Help still displays the original default page. Any ideas anyone?

TCS3 Can't edit FM to RH conversion settings from imported book

I was demonstrating to a client last week how the FM to RH conversion process works (using AIR Browser based Help as output). The FM book has imported fine, TOC etc all working as they should. However the RH output has used the FM styles with no conversion, so I checked the Conversion settings, and they are either blank (Paragraph & Character settings for both FM and RH), or greyed out (Pagination etc). The project is using the in built RHStyleMapping.css. It's not a panic at this stage as this was just a proof of concept excercise, but I do need to have this working at some stage .

Anyone else seen this?

TCS3 Index ToolsPro conditional text problem

I'm using Index ToolsPro to handle the index in my current project. This creates the conditional text setting, which is then imported into the RH project as a conditional build tag. This is used by default in RH to hide the Index ToolsPro index entries. However, I've had an issue with bulleted lists.

If the entry is in a list entry, the conditional text setting also includes the bullet and space up to the beginning of the list entry, which means the bullet is removed from the help.

Ive attached a screen shot to show what I mean.

Is anyone else using Index ToolsPro and having issues like this?

TCS3 FM Imported table titles displayed to left of table, not above

My imported table titles are not displaying correctly in my help output (AIR, Browser based, Multi Tabbed Accordion). They are always displayed to the top and left of the table, rather than being above the table. I;ve also tried outputting in WebHelp, with the same results. I've checked the conversion settings and cannot find anything obvious that I have done wrong.

Anyone any ideas?

Selected Index Entry not highlighted

I'm outputting to AIRHelp (Browser Based) with the multi tab accordion setting in RH 9. I'm linking from a Frame 10 book in TCS3. I have an index in the Frame book, which is pulled into the Help output no problem. Bu twhen I select an item from my index, the index term is not highlighted (like Search Results are) in the page content. Is this a bug or a feature?

Conditional Text tag not including Autonumber format

I'm trying to apply a conditional text tag to someTable titles . However the Autonumber format is not being included in the selected text. I've made sure I include the carriage return when applying the Condition tag, but the autonumber refuses to join in.

My autonumber format is as follows:

Table Title: - T:Table <n+>:

Bizarrely, when applying the same tag to a figure caption, the autonumber is included in the show/hide setting. My Figure caption autonumber format is: - Figure: <$chapnum>.<n+>

So is this something to do with the way Table Titles are incuded in the table format?

Captivate media embedded in FrameMaker converted to RH?

I've just started a new contract using TCS3. I want to use Frame for content creation and then import/link to RH to produce an AIR based help system. The client also wants some Captivate media for walkthroughs etc. My idea is to embed the flash files in Frame, hide for PDF conversion, but import into RH for the help.

The RH help for version 9 doesn't mention Captivate (Flash) media in the page about FrameMaker components converted into RH, so I was wondering whether it is possible?

I'm trying to avoid any post import/link editing in RH.

Using Mini TOC with a style class rather than Heading style

I've got a project which is round tripping from DITA to a Frame (9) book which is then linked to a RoboHelp (8) project.

It doesn't use the inbuilt Heading styles in RoboHelp, and I was wondering whether I could use a <p class="title'> etc to use in a Mini TOC as apposed to the <h1>, <h2> etc styles?

I have a a FM TOC as part of a book I'm importing into RH 8.

Despite setting up the import to select the file as the TOC, I get a blank file in RH. I have to use the auto-generate option from RH on the rest of the imported book files.

I was asuming that RH just picked up the FM TOC Paragraph styles as defined in the document?

Is there any other FM settings I need to be aware of before trying the import.

I'm assuming that this shouldn't matter but the FM book is created from DITA files from withing FM.

RH 8 running on W7 via Parallels on Mac

Have a new MacBook Pro (i7 - 4GB RAM) and have W7 working as a virtual machine via Parallels with 1GB RAM assigned to the VM. I've had no issues with this, until I needed to look at a RoboHelp project.

Adding books or pages to the TOC, changing any of the SSL output settings, editing the HTML is so slow as to make RH impossible to use. All other members of TCS 2 work ok.

I know someone else who has had the same issues. Is there any way around this?

RoboHelp 8 getting stuck importing a DITA map

Hi,

I'm running the latest version of RH8 on W7, with full version 1.5.2 of the DITA Open Toolkit installed (and working). I'm trying to import a DITA map, but all I get is RoboHelp saying 'importing' and the W7 'circle of death'. Eventually I have to exit RoboHelp.

I've tried with a large map that I've created, and one of the small sample maps from the Open Toolkit, all to no avail. No error messages, nothing.

Anyone else encountered this?

Frame 9 DITA map file won't open

Hi, I have Frame 9 (fully patched) running on Win XP (SP3) on an AMD Athlon 64 1.8GHz machine with 2 GB RAM and with 70GB of disk space.

My problem is with creating new maps and opening existing ones. For example I have just waited over half an hour (then gave up) for a 33KB map file to load. There are no CPU or Page File issues showing on the PC.

I wasn't sure if it was a network issue, but the same file loads in under 30 seconds with the free version of Syntext Serna.

Creating map files is also an incredibly slow process.

I don't seem to have any problems with creating topics etc, so I'm not sure what could be causing the map issue, unless its a parsing problem.

Anyone else had the same problem?

Cross references in FM to table titles don't work in PDF

I'm using FrameMaker 8.0p277.

I've inserted numerous links to Table titles in a book. They work when I Ctrl+Alt click them in the FrameMaker file. However, none of them work in the resulting PDF.

All other cross references to Heading styles and URLs work fine, it's just those to table titles that fail.

I've tried checking the paragraph & character styles for any gotchas as I've been caught by those before, but there don't appear to be any.

Anyone any ideas what isn't working?

Text insets and conditional text settings

I'm planning to use a .fm file as a text inset that describes common command line options for both Windows and Linux (in one single table, to make future editing easier). As the syntax for entering the script is different for each OS, is it possible to set up conditional text within the text inset, but have the show/hide options different for the relative Windows and Linux chapters, while leaving the text inset to show all?

Shared Review with Acrobat 9 Trial and Thunderbird

I'm trying to demonstrat the shared review functionality of Acrobat 9 to a client I'm working for. I've installed a trial version, and created a shared network folder. I'm trying to send the email to initiate the review, but when clicking Send, nothing happens. The client uses Thunderbird as its email client. As far as I know Acrobat 9 supports Thurnderbird, so is there a problem with using the trial version for this?

RoboHelp X5

As part of a rre branding project, I have copied a complete project to a new folder, made the necessary changes and re built the index. But when RoboHelp crashes when compiling. The c:/err file contains the following:

HHA Version 4.74.8702
htmlproc.cpp(114) : Assertion failure: (pszTmp == m_pCompiler->m_pHtmlMem->psz)

I've checked and re compiled successfully the original project.

Any ideas why the project should fail at hte the HHA stage?

TOC book not included in browse sequence

I have set up an automatic browse sequence based on the TOC. However when compiling and then viewing the help, the last book in the TOC does not get included in the browse sequence (the next button does not work). All other books up to this point work fine.

Anyone else seen this?
