tagging an image with a callout and caption

The document is created in MSWord 2013. It contains screen captured images along with added call-outs and a caption for each (see image #2 below). The call-outs extend outside the image border. I used the 'group' option in Word to group each of the elements together as they tend to move around the page during the editing process. The 'picture' group is formatted as 'inline with text' or 'top and bottom'.

In Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, I am trying to fix the tags for the figures. Although each of the elements are group in Word, they are appearing as separate elements/tags. (see image #1 below) ...the image is one Figure, the call-out is another Figure and the caption is yet another Figure. How should I handle this type of situation? I have tried:

1. to tag all three elements as a 'Figure'. Sometimes this works; sometimes the caption and/or the text in the call-out disappear.

2. to tag all three elements as a 'Figure/Caption'; however, I get the same results as above...sometimes the caption and/or text in the call-out disappear.

3. I also tagged the call-out as 'background' and then tagged the image and caption together as either 'figure' or 'figure/caption'; however, when selecting the image and caption, I must select the call-out as well because of it's proximity to the image. End result: text in call-out disappears.

What is the proper way to tag in this situation?

As an aside, I find the entering the ALT text in MSWord does not carry over to the PDF. I've experimented with the too. I've added the ALT text to the image on its own and to the group. I've added it to the "Title" field; however, the ALT text field in the PDF is empty. I've given up on adding this in Word and now add them directly to the tag.

If someone can help point me in the right direction on how to fix the tag issues for images/callouts/caption, I'd be very grateful!!!!! (BTW, using a page layout application is not an option. I must use MSWord 2013 to create my documents.)

How does a screen reader read text found in headers and footers?

I create training materials and include our support hotline phone number in the header. I want to ensure that that information is accessible; however, when running the document through the JAWS screen reader it didn't read the text. How can I make sure it does?

tagging order vs reading order

why does the tagging order of a page differ from the reading order? i noticed this in a document i created in msword and converted to pdf. how do i ensure the correct order is read by the screen reader?

I created a one page MSWord 2007 document that contains a screen image in the middle with numbered text boxes around it explaining the various features found in the image. The numbered boxes go clockwise around the image. How can I set this up so that when it's converted to PDF, the PDF screen reader will read the items in the proper order? Is it even possible to do this??

working with Background images

HI. I have a project which contains a few slides with the same background image...an image that was caught with Snagit and then merged onto the slide. I anticipate needing to replace this image with an updated one in the near future. Is there a quick and easy way of replacing that image (which contains a number of captions, highlight boxes, etc) without having to recreate the entire slide from scratch?

Pausing slide with Rollover captions

How do you edit a PowerPoint in Captivate?

I am reading through the CP 4 User Guide and am on the chapter on PowerPoint. I think this chapter was written pre-Office 2007 as some of the instructions are incorrect. Anyway, in reading how to edit a PP within Captivate 4, it states that after importing the PowerPoint, go to Edit mode and click "Edit PPT". I can't find this option. Does anyone know where I can find it? Thank you, Minka

Auto play does not work

I have a CP4 project where the first slide is a PowerPoint slide that contains an animation (see attached). I set the project start option preference to Auto Play, however it does not start playing the movie. I must click the play button in order to activate the movie. Does Auto Play not work with animated PowerPoint slides? Minka

I am learning how to create quiz slides in CP 4. I created a multiple-choice quiz and noticed that it added a 'review area' to the slide; however, I am not quite sure why. I noticed in its properties that I can modify some feedback, but when I run the slide I don't see the feedback on the slide. Help. Minka

where is the script window in captivate?

I am reading through the Captivate 4 User Guide and am on Chapter 11 on "Variables and Advanced Actions". There is a tutorial on scripting on page 148 that steps me through how to set up a login slide with user name and password. It states on page 149 that to create a script I need to click on the Project menu and select Actions. "In the script window, create a script named validate with the following code:..." When I click Project>Actions, I don't see the script window. Any idea on what I am doing wrong? Thank you.

capturing keystokes

How to blur part of an image

HI: I am new to Adobe Captivate and wondered if I can blur part of an image on a slide. I am capturing an image off a website that contains some confidential information and I want to blur-out only that part that contains that information. Is this possible? I am using Windows XP and Captivate 4.

Rescaling in Captivate 4 affects click boxes

I used the Project > Rescale option to reduce the size of my project and discovered that some of the boxes did not rescale along with the slides. Consequently, they ended up in the wrong location. See images below:

Is there a fix/workaround for this?
