Is there a way to "TYPE" in a slide number to navigate?

Hi all,

I'll admit, I'm knee deep in work and I can't spare the time research this and I apologize if this question has been asked and answered.

I have a project that has a TOC, a pop up menu AND navigation buttons...and the client still wants the user to be able to type in a slide number to navigate to that slide. And upon thinking about it for a while, I just told the client I couldn't see how that could be done (frankly, three ways to get around seems overly adequate) but nevertheless, it has come up again. I figured if there's any way it could be done, someone here would know and could give me some insight on how.

Output has RED blocks everywhere...what happened?

For some reason, my output (PDF and HTML5) is displaying RED BOXES over most of the elements...has anyone had this happen before? Any idea how to get rid of it?

Custom progress indicators?

Hey all,

I have a project that just seems like the client wants to continually add new functionality after every submission...now it seems they'd like to have a custom progress indicator.

Basically, they want to have a page that depicts all of the branching scenarios represented by a graphic...once the user goes through a branch and returns to the page, the branch they completed, its graphic would be DIMMED (replaced by another image with a dimmed look--or a transparency setting).

In essence, for example...IF > slide 10 has been visited > OnEnterSlide (the scenario graphics images slide) > hide slide10indicator image //show slide10dimmed image...I'm guessing something like this could be done with some Advanced Actions...but how might one pull this off?

The way I've written this, it's making sense to me...let me know if I can make it any clearer to anyone looking to help.

Is a history "back" button possible?

I know Captivate has incredible undocumented gems or should I say very imaginative solutions for those in the know; but I'm thinking this might be one of the exceptions.

I'd like to know if there's a way to have a button with multiple "BACK" ability [you know, the last visited slide, the last visited slide before that...and that...and that]...like a browser (history) back button?

Just a quickie, but I just can't seem to find the info no matter what criteria I Google...

I'm currently using Captivate 6...I'm beginning a project and the task manager has offered to get me Captivate 8...not really interested in the new learning curve, but every version of Captivate I've used brings in Photoshop (PSD) files as the layers they are, but the text layers are converted to images as well...

Does Captivate 8 import Photoshop text as editable text?

Formating cpInfo date...

Hello all,

I have a certificate that I need to put a date on formatted with the "MONTH" in January, February, March format...is there a way to do this? It seems that CP will only spit out NUMBERS...i.e. 03/08/2012...this isn't the desired format for my project...

I'm hoping (even if can be done) that I don't have to use Advanced Actions (i.e. IF cpInfoCurrentMonth IS EQUAL TO "1" ASSIGN January...for all 12 possibilities)...and by using that approach would mean I would have to use all three variables (cpInfoCurrentMonth, cpInfoCurrentDay and cpInfoCurrentYear) as separate text boxes to create the DATE format I want...

...I probably just answered my own question but you never know

I'm not sure if anyone here can help...but I've been lucky so far...

I have a certificate that the user prints when they pass an exam/quiz...however, no image size or resolution prints without jagged edges...even the text prints jagged. I know Captivate outputs bitmapped images and not vector text (which I still can't get my head wrapped around) but why is the print out so awful?

Is there a way to adjust or increase the resolution of the bitmapped image to get a better print? Or should I say, increase the resolution of Captivates output...

My document size is 792 x 612 (or whatever the pixel size of letter landscape is) and published as an EXE...

...do I need to make the doc size MUCH LARGER?

Hey everyone,

I'm not sure what to do...there are NO BUTTONS in Review Quiz...so basically, at the end of the quiz, I click the Review Quiz button and I see if the question was answered correctly or not...but there's no NEXT/SKIP or buttons of any kind...what did I not set correctly?

FYI...the quiz is 30 Pool questions (3 questions each--and yes, it took two days to do 90 questions)...I'm only using the "Submit" button on the quiz slides with the "User MUST answer the question to continue" in the Quiz Prefs...

I know its not much to go on, but its what I got...I know I did/omitted something elementary...or is this an issue because of the number of pooled questions?

TEB character count

Greetings all,

I've been trying to find how to STOP the text entry box (TEB) from displaying characters AFTER X amount of characters has been entered...basically, I have a TEB on a sign in page...I have it set up with Advanced Actions to SHOW an error message if the filed is left empty (which will not continue without some input)...in addition, I'd like to have the text in the TEB STOP displaying characters once the user types in more than 30 characters...

I've been looking into this assuming its a validation thing...is it? And for those possibly willing to help, the product for which the app will be distributed will be extremely specific so validating for any other purpose is not really an issue...

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anything useful...maybe bad search criteria...can anyone here help?

Projector will not center content...

I have a Flash GUI loading in external SWFs, published as a projector file and the functionality seems to be working perfectly...however, for some inexplicable reason, when I press Ctrl + F to view in fullscreen mode...the stage snaps to the top left corner...

I even put in:

//stage FULLSCREEN and positioning

stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN;

stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;

stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_RIGHT;

...just to see what would happen...the result...well, the above code worked...for about a half-a-second...then the main movie (i.e. the stage) snapped right back to the top left corner...has anyone run into this before? Or can anyone HELP ME FIX this extremely bazaar behavior...

Resume from exit frame

I have a Flash GUI...I need to produce a product for delivery on CD/DVD and one of the requirements is for the application to "resume" from the spot where the user quit the application.

The fact is, I found a way to do it and it was working perfectly...but once I edited the FLA and republished, the SO only resumed up to a certain point...and the only thing I added to the file was AS to disable the primary navigation buttons at certain locations.

...can anyone help me fix this or give me another way to do it?

I'm using a SharedObject with this code:

CP5.5 quiz in Flash GUI not working...

Greetings,

I have a project that includes a number of CP SWFs in a Flash GUI...but the quizzes don't work...or should I say, don't completely work...

For instance, score tracking, results page, review, work just fine...but questions with dropdown menus, the dropdowns don't work so the question can't be answered...the e-mail for test results doesn't work...and for the record, I did publish as EXE and everything...and I mean everything worked perfectly...so the file is setup properly...

Does anyone know if there is a trick to "loading" a CP SWF into a Flash-based GUI (or more actually into another SWF) that would enable ALL of the Captivate functionality?

Greeting all,

I've got a sticky-wicket...for reasons too complex to go into, I am forced to include (by way of the loader class) a CP quiz in a Flash application.

The problem...when the user finishes the quiz and (PASS or FAIL) I need the timeline of the parent Flash movie to advance to the next (frame or designated frame label)...basically, if the user passes the quiz, they can continue to view the rest of the material in the application...but if they fail, they need to take another quiz, which will load in another frame...in either scenario, the parent Flash timeline MUST change play head position...

Greetings Advance Users,

I need help with a technical issue...I have to create a Captivate quiz that is to be distributed on CD-ROM...the client however insists on the user being able to use the CD...leave the session, and have the session resume when the CD is reinserted...

How can I acheive this? Is there a way to "store a cookie" on the users machine that can store the info? Or, maybe some utility that can reside on the CD and write to a temporary file on the users computer?

I really need a resolution to this issue and I'm hoping one of you can SAVE THE DAY for me...:-)

And really, thanks in advance to anyone who can help, point me in the right direction or at least spare some brain power to even consider it...

SPECs to consider: the product is going to be primarily for Windows users (very targeted audience)...and I have Captivate 5.5 on a Win7 64-bit PC.
