Grouping objects without changing their respective layers

Hi everyone.

I have an issue (using CS5) that really causes me a huge loss of time and makes my workflow sooooo not smooth.

Sometimes I need to group objects that are on different layers while keeping them in their respective layers. Here's my example: I'm working on a document where Titles (layer 1) are blue, Descriptions (layer 2) are green, Conditions (layer 3) are grey. They are also different in font and size. There are 4 sections in this document, each of which has all three areas, so Title, Description and Conditions areas, as follows:

---------

TITLE - DESCRIPTION blah blah blah

CONDITIONS blah blah blah

---------

I keep the areas in separate layers so I can select each by clicking once and change the colors while editing to find the best balance. So far so good.

The problem is when I also need to find the space balance and need to move each section (again, a set of Title-Description-Conditions). Grouping them makes this operation easy PLUS it is necessary to align the whole set to other objects, which I can't accomplish by "saving the selection" - but if I do group them I lose the layers separation, which causes me to have to select each area again when changing the color if my client is not happy - and where I live the client is NEVER happy at first, so I find myself changing colors, sizes and positions time and time again. If they're not grouped BUT on different layers, I waste lots of time just in selecting.

This is really annoying, so if anyone has ideas of any kind (like, dunno, a smart way to use sublayers?) I will be very very grateful.

Thanks in advance for your time.
