PSE 12 and GPS Data

Hi.

Have found only one other post about this and it seems that there may be some misunderstanding as to what some users are doing, so I will explain in some detail. Please note that I have only just moved to PSE 12.

I import the my photos directly from my Flash Cards into the Organiser Album (Ctrl+G). As my camera does not have an internal GPS, I take an external GPS with me and use GeoSetter to update the EXIF data on the imported images. GeoSetter not only provides the GPS coordinates it also provides the location names (country, state, city, etc.) and this is all populated into the EXIF file. This data is visible to the PSE 12 Organiser.

On an old versions of PSE (that had Yahoo maps) I would then refresh the images (have forgotten the command) and the GPS data would be used by the Organiser. I would then select the images and use "Show on Map" and all shot and location points would become visible on the map.

I assume that PSE 12 can accept GPS and Location data from the EXIF, if its imported from the card because it does seem to have this functionality.

I'm unable to find a way to get PSE 12 to refresh the Organiser so that it can now use the GPS and Location data that has been written to the EXIF file after its been imported.

Can anybody help?

EXIF Time changes when photos imported from cards

This must be the strangest problem I have ever had. After I updated from PSE 8 to PSE 9 I noticed that the time on the EXIF data was wrong. The time difference is exactly 10Hrs, which is the same as my time zone (UTC +10).

Now I have been through PSE & Windows and I cannot find any reason why this should happen. The following is the properties window from a shot I just took. Notice the difference between the EXIF and the file time & date. The camera time and date is correct as is the PC's.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

PSE 9 Organizer Bugs

Well PSE 9 has so far been my worst upgrade.

My Machine:

OS: Windows Home Premium (64-bit)

Hardware: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Processor 2.80GHz, 8GB RAM, 2x750GB SATA2 RAID 1.

I have two Catalogues one of about 10,000 images and the other is about 15,000, mostly 8MB raw.

Bugs:

Set Top Fail – When you select a photo within a stack to seen as the top photo you get a message Set Top Fail, but it does it anyway. This has been in Organizer for slow so long I forgotten when it started, but it’s still there , this is just annoying.

Backup Flaky– When I attempted to backup PSE9 after the upgrade it either wouldn't start or failed during the backup. I worked out that this seemed to be related to the PSE process ElementsAutoAnalyzer running (doesn't use much CPU or I/O on my machine). If I waited for this to finish (after many hours) the backup worked.

Slide Show Output– I attempted to output to a DVD, only to find out that it doesn't see my internal DVD or an external DVD writer. If I wait for ElementsAutoAnalyzer to finish and go to the Backup Menu, only as far as being able to select an output drive. I now see that I do in fact have a DVD drive. On returning to the Slide Show Output menu, the DVD drive has now returned.

Slide Show Creator – When using the Slide Show creator you have the ability to add Albums. If you do you will see all the images within the album, so If like me you have stacks and version sets, you have no way of knowing which image to import.

Raw Import time changeI have posted elsewhere so I won't repeat it here.

In general I find this version of organizer to be fat & slow. Could it be that I don't have enough CPU, RAM or Hard Disk?

PSE8 Card Reader Import Folder options

Have just moved from PSE7 (XP) to PSE8 (Win7) and going through the setup I noticed that I cannot setup the Card Reader Automatic Download location as I had previously. I had a Create Subfolder(s) Using: Shot Date (yyyy mm dd), this option doesn't seem to be available any more.

As my old PC died, I cannot check my old PSE7 installation, I have restored the data files from DVD backup. All of the restored directories are in yyyy mm dd format as I expected.

The reason I use this format is that it automatically groups my subdirectories in date order, ideal for archival purposes.

Has this been changed? is it a bug? or am I just going senile.

Yahoo Maps

Have been using PSE for many years to organize and edit my photos. One feature that helped a lot was the introduction of Yahoo Maps. I painstaking went back through all of my photos and where possible put a location on the map. This simple change made it very easy for me to find the right photo.

Last year I noticed that the map resolution available to my country (Australia) had been reduced to such an extent that it made this feature almost unusable. I have been waiting for some time for this to change, hoping it’s only an update problem.

Any idea when full resolution maps will be available?
