PPro 8.1 Update causes EXTREME UI sluggishness. Don't do it.

I just updated to Premiere Pro 8.1, hoping performance would improve for my 4K timeline working on my New Mac Pro 6-core with Dual AMD FirePro D700's and 32GB RAM. On the contrary, the editing interface is now PAINFULLY sluggish. Like unusable. About a 2-3 second lag between dragging an end of a clip along the timeline and seeing the result of the drag on-screen. Remember Mac OS 7 running on like 8MB of RAM. Kinda like that.

I'm on chat with Adobe to find out if I can go back to 8.0.1... Will update with results.

Because of the issues I've had with the 8.1 update, I am going back to 8.0.1. I actually did this once before, early this week. But now when I follow the same steps, the 8.0 version is not available to me for install -- only 6.0 and 7.0.

I have the link to download the 8.0.1 update from Adobe's site... but no way to install 8.0.0.

Any thoughts out there? This is killing me. I tried EVERY step in the book -- every step recommended by Adobe experts on this board, and over the phone -- to get 8.1 to function without freezes and delays in the UI, and spinning beach balls. NONE of them worked, and it appears 8.1 was just not ready for heavy Red RAW users like myself with an existing 8.0.1 project file.
