Using datefield, is there a way for the calendar to display multiple months?

I've got a couple of cfinput datefields that show the current month when you select the calendar icon. Because these fields are used to select the "From" and "To" dates for reports, I need the calendar to actually show dates in the past. It would be great if one click would show the previous three months.

Can that be done?

Client Variables not being updated

I have three working environments: a Development site on my PC (Windows 2007), a Testing site (Windows Server 2003), and a Production site (Windows Server 2003). All of them are running MySQL 5.1 and CF 7. The web site is an database-driven support site for some engineers. It is not internet facing.

I have two web pages that use client variables stored in a database to provide persistency between sessions for the clients. The status of five checkboxes is stored.

Both pages work fine on the Dev and Prod servers but do not retain the information on the Test server. In every other way, the application works correct for all the application data. The pages are the same because I am simply copying the page from server to server. The site was working correctly on the Test server up until about nine months ago. It's been that long since any pages were upgraded and needed testing.

CF Admin says the Data Source is OK. The Client Variable admin section does not complain when I select the datasource for storage. I've got the ODBC Admin settings set up the same way in Windows.

I am using CFPARAM to preset the five checkboxes as a means to have some selection done when an engineer logs in for the first time. But, after that, the status of the checkboxes is queried and pulled from the DB. At least that is the way it's supposed to happen.

As I said, on the Dev and Prod servers you can select 1 to 5 of the checkboxes, change pages or log out and, when you return to the page, the same boxes will be checked. But, on the Test server, when you select or deselect a box and hit the "Select" button, they always revert back to the default. It's as if the CPARAM is always read and the database is not.

Any ideas how to proceed? Might the permissions or ownership be an issue when I drag and drop the files from one server to the other?

Actually, that last question doesn't really appear to be the problem because dragging from the Dev server to the Prod server does not cause a problem.

Thank for any help you can give me.

Richard

Formatting for email sent to Outlook 2007 client

I'm sure you are aware of Microsoft's decision to start using
the html parser from Word 2007 to display html emails in Outlook
2007. As with so many other developers, this is causing the emails
I created with cfmail to fail.

The basic fix is to (pretty well) stop using CSS and go back
to tables. But, even at that, Word 2007 does not recognize many
common tags. In my case, the "wrap" command doesn't work for any
tag (such as "textarea") so all my fields will only stretch to the
right until all the data is displayed. This means the client can
not print out the form and see all the data.

Can someone give me an idea how to cause data to wrap in a
table or textarea field without the use of the "wrap" command? For
example, one field can hold 100 characters but the field is only 40
characters long on the web page. For printing, the data would wrap
and extend the field down the form to display all the data.

I hate it when companies "improve" there products by making
us take a step back in time.

Thank you.

ODBC Server hang up

In Sept. 2007, there was a thread (# 13016048) where some
comments were made about a bug in the installer that caused the
ODBC drivers not to be installed if the user deselected the option
to load documentation. This thread was specifically talking about
CF 8.

I am still not allowed to puchase the upgrade, so I recently
had to reinstall CFMX 7. To save a small amount of space, I
deselected the "Documents" option. The installation went fine and I
am able to connect to a MS Access database and two MySQL databases
(via ODBC).

Although, prior to the reinstallation, everything operated
fine; after the reinstallation, the ODBC Server service stops
working about every other day. When I try to shutdown the service,
it never gets past the "Stopping" message. I have to have the Sys
Admin reboot the server. They and the clients are not too happy
right now.

I'm wondering if the same problem that was talked about in
the other thread applied to CF 7? Will the problem go away if I
reinstall and allow "Documentation" (and therefore, the ODBC
drivers) to be reinstalled? Can I re-install the ODBC drivers
alone?

There are other threads that recommend not using ODBC and
start using JDBC. Is this a good recommendation? Should I first
just reinstall as is and set up the ODBC connections and then (in
my spare time) change to JBDC connections?

Thank you for any help your can give me.

Is my installaton of CF MX 7 using JVM or not?

I was recently directed to start using some "global logon"
software with my application on our company intranet. I don't know
if it is developed in-house or purchased.

When I talked to the person providing the software, he asked
if I was running "Windows and Coldfusion without JVM" or
"Coldfusion on Windows (using JVM)". I wrote it this way because
that is the way he asked it. Unfortunately, I didn't know the
answer to the question. That's not my expertise. We talked for a
while and he decided I needed his version for "without JVM".

I've been working with the software for a couple of weeks now
and it works, but only partially. It uses a cookie to provide
security information back to the application, then the application
is supposed to decrypt the cookie and get various pieces of info
about the user. I'm only getting a small part of the information.

I'm trying to get more information to determine if he sent me
the wrong version. How would I find out if I'm using JVM or not?
When I look in the CF Admin module at the "Java and JVM" tab, I see
the installation path for JVM is "E:/CFusionMX7/runtime/jre" and
some "JVM arguments" in a lower box. When I look in the "jre"
subdirectory, I find subdirectories for bin, lib, and javaws plus a
bunch of "License" files.

I'm out of ideas to "fix" the software so I'm wondering if
they sent the wrong one. Before you ask, I've already been on the
phone with the provider and the tech support people with no help
(obviously).

The server is running Windows server 2003, IIS, MySQL, and CF
MX 7.
CFGRID displays on one server but not another

I have CF 7 running on Windows Server 2003 R2. I am migrating
the application from an older server to a new one. In reality, I
have put a copy of the application on a new "testing" server and on
a new "production" server.

The application works fine on the old server and the new
testing server, but not on the new production server.

Using a "select" statement, I present information about
company buildings that exist in various states. The information is
displayed using CFGRID. It's simple and straight forward. As I
said, the problem is that the data gets displayed on two of the
servers but not a third one. As far as I can see, the configuration
for the CF install is the same on all three servers.

I have all the folders that contain the web pages for the
various web sites in E:\inetpub. There is also a folder named
"ColdFusion MX Root" as a sub-directory on all three servers. The
folder on the new production server is empty. But, that same folder
on the other two servers contains folders labelled "CFIDE" and
"cache".

Might there have been a problem with the installation on that
one server? Would this allow everything to work except the
Java-based CFGRID grid?

Poor performance after altering tables to InnoDB

I have an application using CF MX, IIS, and MySQL 5.0.37
running on Microsoft Windows Server 2003.

When I originally built the application, access from login to
start page and page to page was very good. But, I started getting
errors because tables were sometimes getting records added or
deleted and sometimes not. I thought the "cftransaction" statements
were protecting my transactions. Then I found out about MyISAM (the
default) vs InnoDB.

So, using MySQLAdmin, I altered the tables to InnoDB. Now,
the transactions work correctly on commits and rollbacks, but the
performance of the application stinks. It now takes 20 seconds to
log in.

The first page involves a fairly involved select statement,
but it hasn't changed at all. It just runs very slowly. Updates
also run slowly.

Is there something else I was supposed to do in addition to
the "alter table" in this environment? The data tables used to be
in /data/saf_data. Now the ibdata file and log files are in /data
and only the ".frm" files are still in saf_data.

I realize I'm asking this question in a CF forum. But, people
here are usually very knowledgable and helpful and I'm desperate.
This is a CF application. Is there anything I need to do for a CF
app to work well with MySQL InnoDB tables? Any configuration or
location stuff to know about?

Help, and Thanks!

Doing transactions with MyISAM tables

On Feb. 24, a question was asked about using cftransaction
with MySQL. That person's answer was to convert the tables to
InnoDB.

I have three tables that must stay "in lockstep". When I add
a row to one table, I have to add rows to the other two. If they
get out of sync, one of the queries runs excruciatingly slow.

I tried wrapping them in a cftransaction, but now find out
that it didn't really do any good because the table format is still
MyISAM. Is there anything I can do (short of altering the tables)
to do transactions?

Is there a way to get MySQL to process the transactions
"manually". Do I have to do a series of "trys" and "catches" with a
commit or rollback for each one? Do you know of a place where I can
see code like that?

It would be nice if I were just missing something and someone
could tell me how to do transactions with MyISAM tables. But, I'll
do whatever is necessary to avoid having the tables get out of
sync.
How to use sql to get two pieces of data in one cfquery

OK, that was probably a bad title, but ...

I am building a new "report" page for an existing
application. In that application, I have three tables that hold
information about a "request".

One table (tblstatus) holds "status" values with "stat_id"
being the primary key and "status" being the value. So, stat_id
1=status "new", stat_id 2=status "denied", stat_id 3=status
"approved", etc.

A second table (tblcssp) has information put in by a person
with approval authority on this request. The table has a field
(cssp_stat_id) that gets a 2 or 3 based on that person's
determination.

The third table (tblcsfp) holds the same information by a
third person who also has approval authority. It too has a field
(csfp_stat_id) that holds a 2 or 3 based on that person's
determination.

I need to output one line of information for each request
that shows the status of each request with the approval or
disapproval of each of those two people. But, I can't figure out
how to do this without getting a conflict within my cfquery. If I
use:

<cfquery name=qGetSTAT>
select stat_id, status, cssp_stat_id, csfp_stat_id
from tblstatus, tblcssp, tblcsfp
where tblstatus.stat_id=tblcssp.cssp_stat_id and
tblstatus.stat_id=tblcsfp.csfp_stat_id
</cfquery>

the table only shows the translation of the determination
from the tblcssp table in both of the fields. Basically, the
translation of the data in the tblcsfp table never gets shown.

How can I take the data from two different tables and
translate it via the one "status" table and display them both on
one line of a table. I have not included all the html because
that's not an issue.

Do I need to do two different queries? If so, how do I
include the output in one cfoutput?

By the way, the tblcssp and tblcsfp tables always have the
same number of rows. They are currently up to 995 rows each.

Thank you.

Dynamically resizing a textarea

I have some textareas on a form that need to be a fixed
width. The database field is varchar(100) but the form field must
remain only 40 characters wide. The on-line version is no problem
because the field will be scrollable. But, you can't "scroll" the
printed version.

What can I do to allow the client to see the entire text of
the field on the printed version without affecting the width of the
field?

I could provide a separate "printer friendly version" where I
change the field from a textarea to a simple "text" field (like a
paragraph or something). But, I want to avoid creating a separate
file and, hopefully, be able to use CSS to present all the data in
the field.

Thanks in advance

Updating, Adding, or Deleting rows from a query

So, I've got this page that originally was made of four
different forms. It worked great. But, then the client asked that I
"idiot proof" the page.

Originally, I had a form that enclosed a one-line table (with
Add & Clear buttons on the end) that took seven fields and
"added" a new record to the "tbljob" table.

That was followed with another form that created a table from
the results of a cfquery and listed all the rows from tbljob (with
Update/Delete buttons on the end of each row).

This worked fine when it was two separate forms. Now, I'm
trying to use only one "form" while displaying the two tables. The
buttons are now done with Javascript (so there are dialog boxes).
The problem is that I am getting a CF error message because the
insert, update, and delete commands are trying to pass the contents
of the fields as comma-delimited lists rather than the single data
item that is actually in each field. I am passing a hidden field
with each row that contains the "job_id".

I know the problem is that I'm not identifying each row as
being unique. I guess it's like I'm passing an "array" of data
rather than just a "row".

Basically, I just want to be able to display a blank row for
adding records followed by multiple rows from a query. The blank
row needs to have "Add" and "Cancel" buttons at the end and the
multi-row part has to have "Update" and "Delete" buttons on the end
of each row and manage the appropriate records.

It's got me stumped. TIA.

Submit data from two forms with one button

I have a page with two forms.

If you fill in the fields (text, dates, checkboxes, radio
buttons) in the first form (form1) and select the Submit button in
that form, the data gets passed to it's action page
(form1_action.cfm) and a record in one table of the database gets
built/updated correctly.

But, if you fill in the fields in form1 and fill in the
fields in form2 and select the submit button in form2, the data
from form1 and form2 should be passed to form2_action.cfm and
records should be built in two different tables in the database.
But, instead I get an CF Admin error message about trying to use
null pointers.

The funny thing is that if you select the submit button in
form1, then the submit button in form2, it all works fine. But, of
course, the user doesn't want to have to have to push two different
buttons!

I've tried putting hidden fields in form2 right before the
Submit button, but cfdump keeps telling me I'm passing "emtpy
string".

So, how to I make form2 aware of the data in the fields in
form1 and pass it to form2_action.cfm?

Another question (maybe part of this one): if I put a name on
my forms (either form or cfform), how and where can I use that
name? Or does it have a use?

Thanks for your help.
