Fonts are not embedding in CFRB10, and CFRB11 reports it is still version 10??

So, I have a report built using CFR Builder 10 with the fonts all marked as "embedded font" in order to make the report look as it should. However the fonts default to Helvetica when it generates.

So - I need to know why this is not working properly, since it should. All the HELP notes is that the PDF file will be larger with embedded fonts, which everyone should know already.

Second : I upgraded to CFRB11 to see if that issue was fixed, but when it opens it looks the same as CFRB10 and the HELP/ABOUT menu shows it is still version 10?? Is this just a bug or is Adobe pawning off version 10 as version 11. It should be a new version with the new CF version since it would need to include new functions etc, as well as have any issues fixed since version 10, of which there were a few.

Any ideas on either - or response from ADOBE?

I miss Macromedia, at least they always had staff members answering forum posts often.

Yet when it shows the text in the rendered PDF file, it is not Calibri (or anything close)

All Report Builder help tells me is that when we embed the font, the file size will be bigger - no duh! But it's not even doing it.

Creating a report that has specific sizes and looks in mind can't be done unless the font embeds, so how do I fix this??

It's really starting to piss me off!

SafariTECH

Missing Template handler w/o Admin Access?

general processing errors etc, but is there some type of magic
template that can be used to show if a CFM file is missing
altogether? or maybe an undocumented function to assign it?

I know we can do this inside CF Admin itself (missing
template handler), but we don't have access to that on the shared
server the client is using.

The standard/custom 404 files only get triggered by non-CFM
pages, so we can't use them either.

Can't install D11 on ANY Vista computers

trial will not run on any of them! (
Vista 32 Ultimate, Vista 64 Ultimate, and Vista 64 Premium
Home)

** The 32 bit version doesn't even have any other Adobe stuff on
it.

If I don't run it as Administrator I just get a message box
that says that Licensing has stopped.

If I run it as Administrator I get the splash screen that
asks for the serial or allows me to select to run as trial. When I
choose the trial selection it says it can not load the trial
information and takes me back to the screen asking for teh serial
number but the trial choice is greyed out.

This is ludicrous that Adobe would release a product that is
not even ready for production yet - I am not the only one seeing
this issue with Vista computers and Adobe seems to be sweeping the
problem under the rug.

CF8 on IIS7 (x64) Vista Home Premium

dumb of Adobe for a new product) but I do know that people
out there have been getting CF8 (
and CF7) to work on 64-bit versions - I just can't seem to
get it to work.

- I have installed IIS7 and made sure the ASAPI and CGI
modules are available (
they are not installed by default on non-server systems).

- I have configured the app Pools to run both 32-bit and
64-bit applications (
new in IIS 7) based on Microsoft's information.

- I manually set up a ScriptMap to the CF dll as noted in the
connector instructions, using *.cfm as the extension

- I configured the CF ASAPI extension to be allowed under CGI
& ASAPI configurations

When I try to load the CF Admin, I get what appears to be an
ASP/.NET error page that says it has a 500 error and something
about not being able to call some command against the CF ASAPI
extension

Is there a better guide out there for getting CF8 to run on the
64-bit version of IIS7??

In case it matters, I am installing the CF8 demo version.

Mac PPC vs Intel?

Just a quick inquiry to anyone who may have done hybrid
projects lately.

I develop on Windows and only have an Intel Mac Mini for
testing. In fact, everyone I know (
all 2 of them) with a Mac has an Intel machine and not a PPC
version. We are only concerned with OSX 10.3 and higher due to the
fact that one Xtra has that as a minimum requirement, so I only
need to know about that target. Even the city libraries and schools
all are running Windows it seems.

Our project runs properly, thus far, on Windows (all 32 &
64 bit bit flavours, including Vista) and it also runs on Intel
OSX.

My question is whether or not there would be any reason it
would not function on PPC?

All the Xtras we use are either native to Director MX 2004 or
are xtras that have been around since before the Intel platform
existed for Apple.

The 3rd party apps we are using are : BuddyAPI, OSControl,
INM Vizion DB, and Webviewer Xtra

As I said, we have no issues on the Intel side of the
equation, so I just want some assurance that the app should work on
PPC as well since it has to be sent off for duplication soon and I
seem to have nowhere available to test it.

Making [enter] work the same as [return]

but I need to continue on other areas to get this project done and
hope that maybe someone has figured this out before.

On our app we have a large text field (scrolling) that is
editable and the user enters criteria in it, 1 item per line.

The problem is that some people like using the enter key
[numpad] which places a strange return character in the field and
causes the function to fail when they submit the final field. For
the meantime I have simply captured the enter key [numpad] and
stopped it from entering,
BUT what I would like to do is have a script capture the
enter key [numpad] and have it enter a proper line return the same
way the return key [main keyboard] does.

So far, any attempts at this in my "on KeyDown" function has
failed.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
MIAW in OSX 10.4 Intel

is invisible. We do this so the window does not have to load each
time it is called, we never actually "forget the MIAW" we just
close it.

My problem is that on our OSX test machine (OSX 10.4 Intel
Mac Mini) the MIAW always shows up as a white square and never
disappears. When the MIAW is called and opened, it appears as
normal, but when it is closed it goes back to being a white square.

Admittedly we have only ever developed PC applications, as
there has been no request by any client to include mac users. This
is our first, and we only test on the Mac platforms - we develop on
PC.

Aside from the weird MIAW the software runs more-or-less
normally on the Mac.

Is this normal on Macs? is there a workaround?

be default?

I thought it was necessary to run this to use data
connections with CF, but it turns out all of our sites run 100-fold
faster and better with the darn thing turned off and there is no
issue connecting to data sources!?

So why is it there at all? Just curious more than anything.

specific CACHE-CONTROL abilities?

This may be more of an actual server setting, but I thought I
would check and see if anyone came up with a way to do this through
straight CF coding.

On sites that require time-sensitive updates, we always use
the CFHEADER and CACHE-CONTROL settings ... it works very well, but
I am hoping to make this even more dynamic.

When you use cache-control in its default format, it causes
EVERYTHING on the page to not be cached and therefore reloaded.
What I am wondering is if there is a way to code CACHE-CONTROL so
it will still allow images to be cached, but not the actual HTML
page code. Reloading images all the time is not always necessary
and it would be nice to save bandwidth wherever possible.

Since caching is done by the browser, I am surprised there is
no way to specify what objects can be cached and what cannot with
these tags; so I am hoping I am just overlooking something.

Thanks in Advance.

How to configure CF on a 64 bit server

I am trying to setup CF MX 7 on our new 64 bit Windows 2003
server (IIS 6). When we ran HTML and ASP pages prior to installing
CF, it worked fine. After installing CF we kept getting 500 errors
and even HTML/ASP wouldn't work.

After uninstalling CF, it went back to working fine.

I looked up the issue on MS's website, and their explanation
states that a 64 bit OS is pre-defined to only allow 64 bit
extensions to run; but you can run 32 bit extensions if you
configure certain settings to allow it.

Unfortunately, as per MS's usual finesse, they neglect to
tell you
how to adjust the server to allow 32 bit extensions.

Has anyone here set up their 64 bit server for CF yet? If so,
can you give me an idea on how to reconfigure the server so 32 bit
extensions will work?

Thx in advance.

Flash Grid in Director

In the past we have only created software for Windows using
Director, so we had a ton of options for grid controls.

Now, we have been asked to port one software to Mac as well.
This reduced our choices for grids (
that look and work decently in both OS) to pretty much the
Flash Grid control available in Director.

It looks pretty good and it works pretty well, but one thing
that happens all the time is the columns are always way too small
(width) and the text in them gets cramped or wrapped. The user
always has to manually drag the column widths so they can read
them.

If I search in the help files I can find nothing about the
Flash grid control ... are there Lingo commands that will allow me
to define the column widths??

Tables/Grids in Mac/OSX???

As a developer, I have never been required to create any apps
that run outside of Windows before.

I now have a client that wants something built to run on OSX
as well as Windows.

We usually use Macromedia Director as the choice because it
is cross-platform by design and we have never come across anything
it cannot do compared to any other development platform.

However, I have come across a puzzling discovery. There does
not appear to be an Xtra that will create scrollable tables/grids
in Director (that allows both text and images) for Mac/OSX!

There are many options (and I have used many of them with
great success) in Windows, but despite the fact that Director is
cross-platform nobody has been successful in creating a smooth
functioning grid of this nature for Mac/OSX ... in fact they (Xtra
devs) clearly state they cannot create one for Mac/OSX

So, I am hoping that somebody out there can explain what they
are using with Director to create nice looking scrollable
tables/grids that can contain both images and text for their
projects in Mac/OSX? There has to be a way to do it, since I really
can't see how many types of projects could be built without one.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

VISTA/Longhorn Server Beta 2 + CFMX 7

This is a long shot, since Vista Server is not yet a retail (
therefore supported) OS, but I was hoping that maybe some
fellow Beta Testers would be around to provide some insight.

I have installed Vista Server Beta 2 (
released May 23) and have setup IIS 7 as required.

I ran the CFMX 7 installer and it said it completed properly,
but there are no associations for the script engine or CFM files.

I manually setup a script reference for CFM and CFML pages,
similar to how it sets them up in IIS 6 on 2003, using a 2003
server as a reference and I also setup a MIME definition for the
files so the server will recognize them as valid server files.

However, when I try to load the Administration page, I get
either "page not found" or just some encrypted code (basically
showing the template's code as text).

Has anyone successfully gotten CFMX7 to run on the new Vista
Beta 2 server yet? If so, what are the tricks?
