How to create a non-accessible script?

I have to develop a script member that contains some procedures and functions.

Is there a way to produce some "hidden" script?

I think the first solution is to put this script in an external cast and protect it (AKA make it CXT).

But...

Is there a way to hide all variables so they cannot be seen as globals?

My next Director project

Hi community folks.

Don't know if you can be interested in this, but I'd like to show you our next project, a Mac (and in the next future Windows) application dedicated to podcasters to help them cleanup audio and auto-sync multiple recording tracks.

Pseudo-multithreaded Director App

Director can produce single-threaded apps.

But I found a (not so simple) way to parallelize processes.

Director stops after (a lot of) operation with large ByteArrays

I'm working with large ByteArrays (hundred of megabytes).

After some operations Director stops, just like stopping the square button: no warnings, non error codes, just stops.

I thought there is a upper limit to ByteArrays, so i developer a framework that subdivide a large ByteArray into many smaller ones, but still the problem persists.

Any idea?

Anyone ever used Tabulerio Audio Xtra? Converting stereo to mono

I got a "little" problem trying to convert an audio file from stereo to mono and I'm trying to use this abandonware Xtra to solve it.

This is the code:

put axSetEnvironmentInfo ("convertSampleRate", 44100)

put axSetEnvironmentInfo ("convertNumChannels", 1)

put axSetEnvironmentInfo ("convertSampleDepth", 16)

put axLoadSoundIntoRAM ("temp", sourceFilePath)

tempFilePath = tempFolderPath & getFileNameWithoutExtensionFromPath (sourceFilePath) & ".wav"

put axConvertToFile ("temp", tempFilePath, "WAVE")

put axRemoveSound ("temp")

But no luck: if the file is stereo it continues to be in stereo after this (and still no changes in sample rate).

Do you know if there's a way to convert an audio file from stereo to mono?

I already developed my own framework to develop a podcaster-tool application (Come funziona PodCleaner? | Video DiggaZ), but, for performance reasons, I'd like to not go through a sample-by-sample down mix...

iOS: displaying list and performance issues

I developed a middleware I called viewPort that can be used to display *very fast* list of items (text/graphics) using the iOS' 3D hardware and so having high performance.

Video on iOS: my 2 cents

Ok, I finally managed to produce an SWF video that plays on iPad using this software: http://www.macvide.com.

My target resolution is 1024x576, that is fullres letterboxed 16:9 on an iPad 1/2 and halfres letterboxed 16:9 on an iPad 3+.

I could reach 24 frames per second, but not above (I was targetting at 30 fps), and the quality is way beyond h.264 at the same datarate, but I can say I'm pretty satisfied with it.

I think I'll deliver a nev version for all my apps that will include a brief tutorial/discover-this-app.

But, most important, this add a new feature to what I can do.

And, for once, it's a good news, here, in the Director discussion group. :-)

iOS publishing: Invalid Binary

I just obtained this from iTunes after uploading the iOS app:

We have discovered one or more issues with your recent delivery for "IPNews". To process your delivery, the following issues must be corrected:

Invalid Launch Image - Your app contains a launch image with a size modifier that is only supported for apps built with the iOS 6.0 SDK or later.

So...

I modified Otto info.plist file to include all images requested by App Store (@2x launch images and 568 for iPhone 5) but it seems that something's wrong.

Does anyone of you successfully uploaded an iOS app to iTunes after may 1?
And so, he/she will be so kind to explain how he/se did it?

Suggestions for a future Director version...

Dear Director Development Team, I am writing this letter to give you a few tips to keep in mind for future versions of your (beloved) program.

First of all I would like to underline that, I think, now the majority of developers using Director is oriented to the use of this software to produce iOS apps. This is because now the development of real desktop applications has shifted to other platforms, because from version 11 to the current many years have passed. As a result I believe that Director 12 is essentially a new development tool for iOS, and nothing else.

Assuming that there is no longer any need to Director to develop other applications, why not make a "fork" and make a version 12.1 or 12.5 which develops exclusively iOS apps? I would advise you to focus your efforts on this platform: those who develop with Director is essentially a good programmer, those who are left are the ones really good. Why, then, do not create a version of Director to be in charge of all the limitations and essentially only works with iOS? Adding new grammars, new features and instead removing all those no longer needed.

To make sure that Director is a real development tool for iOS applications you need to add different things, for example the ability to display web pages, the ability to display videothe possibility to interact with the GPS, and many other tips that will have been given, right in this forum.

Personally, the biggest limitation I see in Director to iOS is that it does not properly handle the editable text fields. Then why not introduce a new one type of text field? A special text field that only works with iOS, one which respects the logic and enabling the development of actual applications, not just only some games ...

Director can be a very effective development platform for a lot of apps, things that today are done using HTML 5 wrappers, such as Phonegap. Director can go further and produce something much more interactive and much richer, while maintaining relatively low development time.

My advice, then, is to transform Director, and make it a new application, which develops only for iOS, so that they do this well, better, and in an ever more efficient way.

I understand that no one will ever read these lines, and if it does, probably this thing that has already been discussed in some meetings. I just wanted to you hear my voice and express my opinion, and possibly also ask the opinion of other participants of this forum.

iOS apps on retina devices

Dear Adobe Director developer folks...

I know it's hard for you, but please, collect some money and *buy* a retina device.

Please, please, please.

Texts in Director iOS apps sucks because it generate a lot of warnings for bad use of font names.

If you run your app with XCode console on you'll se tons of waring messages, let's say that it decrease the speed of the app by 80-90%. True.

If you try to use Flash to do text everything's fine...

But if you run your app on a retina device (>= iPhone 4 or >= iPad 3) all texts become crazy and they are drawn at 200%.

I don't know.

Dear Adobe Director developer folks...

Can you (please) try to have a look at your software on a retina device?

And make Director (with Flash) run smoothly even on a modern iPad/iPhone?

In iOS you can share a folder, this thing can be used to transfer files to e from the app via iTunes.

You can activate this with Director iOS app, but in this case, for the user, *all* the Adobe directory is visible.

Do you know if there's a way to make available only a little part of the sandbox?

Keyboard not shifting up interface in iOS

Simple question: i have a (Flash) text field.

I use Flash 'cause text crashes on iOS 7.

I tap with the finger on the field so I can edit it.

If the field is down in the interface the iOS keyboard covers it and I cannot see what I'm typing.

I can catch the tap on a field, and if it's doen in the interface i can shift everything up.

I shift everything down if the user taps elsewhere.

But...

What if the user hides the keyboard?

How can I catch this?

Director, iOS and the (real) apps development cul-de-sac

Hi there.

I was a long time Director developer and I tried D12 to give it a shot with iOS app development.

After 2.5 months of research, an app submitted to Apple (still "in review"), another in development and a 3D game in its first design I have to summarize my experience.

Developing simple apps and games seems very simple and easy.

Let's say that if the user don't have to interact with the keyboard, or use UI controls, app development is fluid.

If you have to develop something with (even) a little user interface, you get crazy.

You have to re-invent the wheel and in doing it you're doing it wrong.

I developed a simple app, an app that does only one thing, but it does it in a very good way.

I started developing this app because there is no an app that does this thing, today.

First prototype? 4 hours.

Now I'm stuck in handling UI and UX, and I'm going mad.

There's no way to re-produce iOS controls (like radio buttons, checkboxes and fields) without appearing "cheap".

If the user have to insert something with the keyboard you get mad.

If you have the crazy idea to create a scrollable list (with selection) the performances become as slow as hell and the user responsiveness goes away.

I'm so so so sad for this.

I know Director Team is doing something great to bring us Director developers the possibility to easly port games from Shockwave to iOS.

But if you want to develop a real application (or something like that) you actually have no chances to pass Apple quality control.

That's it.

I just wanted to share my feelings with you.

I know I can call a handler in a string using this syntax:

call ("myHandler", _movie)

Is there a way to execute a script command, like this (example, not real Lingo syntax):

execute ("myVariable = 10")

and having as a result the same as:

myvariable = 10

I'd like D12 apps to not-crash under iOS 7.

So...

I'd like to know when a new "hotfix" will be available for Director to solve this "little" problem (I have to put an app on iTunes App Store, and now I'm stuck, you know).

So...

When shall we expect a new hotfix?

And, more, is there a roadmap for Director?

I know Adobe won't answer my questions but I'd like to know if there still a product in development or D12 was only an experiment to test if there is stilla market for it...

Disrupting sound

The question is quite simple.

If I have a sound playing and I do semething like this:

repeat while true

end repeat

the sound disrupt after less than a second.

Obvuously I don't have an infinite loop but something like this:

sound (1).play ()

repeat with i = 1 to aList.count ()

aVeryIntensiveSetOfLingoInstruction

end

but my problem remains.

I tried to do something like this:

sound (1).play ()

repeat with i = 1 to aList.count ()

aVeryIntensiveSetOfLingoInstruction

updateStage

end

but it's not enough.

Is there a damn way to increase the size of the sound buffer?

I think Director has to learn a lot to produce real appealing iOS apps.

My app is just an exercise, not intended to be actually published (freely) on the App Store.

There are too many glitches and performance are too poor to consider Director as an usable development tool.

But for some kind of (very) simple task it can be ok.
