BC Forum Module feedback?

Can anyone share their experience with using the BC forum module? Does it work and would you recommend it? Are there any known problems or issues with BC Forums that I should be aware of? Any honest input would be appreciated. Thank you!

Web Form Spam

I continue to have major issues with form spam on client sites. It appears the forms are being submitted with a URL inserted in the comments field. I've implemented captcha and recaptcha, yet the rate of spam submissions has not declined. I've contacted the BC help desk and they're not very helpful. Can anyone recommend any other solutions? 1) Remove the comments field so a URL cannot be submitted with the form? 2) Use the BC askimet for forms? (does it work or just overload the client with other duties?) 3) Use javascript to validate the comments field and prevent URLs form being submitted in this field? Is this even possible? Any help with other possible approaches would be appreciated. Thanks!

Form SPAM

We continue to have major complaints from clients about SPAM submissions via general inquiry forms on their BC sites. All forms have the difficult version of captcha (not recaptcha), but that does not seem to slow the SPAM down. All SPAM submissions seem to include a URL in the comments field, which appears to be their objective. Are their other creative solutions to block these bogus submissions? Can I restrict links or URLs from being added to the comments field? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Brian

Accessing BC mail server via a script?

We'd like to have a training course automatically email the instructor when a student successfully completes the course/quiz. I can embed javascript code into the course to do that, but it needs to interact with a script on the webserver that would actually send the email. I can code that script, but would need information on the BC mail server and what scripting language you use. Can any tell me if the BC mail server can be accessed to do this? Thanks!

Secure Zone Login Credentials in Cookie?

My client would like to integrate an online training course with an existing secure zone. Can we use javascript to pull the user's login information and validate a user's credentials. Once a user is logged into the secure zone, does BC store the user's data in the session, or in a cookie, or is there a database call that needs to be made to pull the user's data? Trying to determine where the BC login system is storing in the cookies. What variable names should we be looking for and what values can we get? Ideally, we'd like to get email address, full name of the user, and what company they work for, but knowing what fields are available will help me plan what information we need to ask for in the script we add to the training course. Web App or JavaScript for Savings Calculator?

Form confirmation page url

Upon form submit I'm redirecting to a confirmation page. I'd like to track this page in Google Analytics but BC adds a bunch of garbage to the end of the url upon submit. Therefore GA sees each page as a different page and I cannot track conversions. Can BC or Google Analytics be configured to not produce the garbage in the url or can GA be configured to ingnore it? HTML5 and jquery mobile with BC forms?

I'm building a mobile site with jquery mobile and html5. I'd like to take advantage of many of the nice form features in html5 and jquery mobile. However, I'm trying to determine what elements of BC forms are best removed and not used. The elements in question are: * Required fields? * CaptchaV2? * Form submit process Can anyway provide any suggestions or resources I can use? I've viewed very helpful jquery mobile tutorials on Kiyuko and Lynda.com, but neither provide insight about integrating with BC forms. Thanks!

Multi-Language content on BC

Can anyone share any experience with building multi-language sites on BC? I have a client in Eastern Canada that needs a site in French and English. Is the best approach to create two complete sites in different directories such as: www.mysite.com/fr/ www.mysite.com/en/ Can anyone provide sample sites where this has been done in BC? Are there other CMS's that are better equipped for multi-language sites? Thanks for your help!

BC tag for current year?

Does BC have a tag (ie {tag_year} ) that inserts the current year that can be used in a copyright footer added to pages via a content holder? I've searched through the tag reference docs and cannot find anything. Thanks!

Literature download analytics

Is there anyway to get a summary of Literature download frequency for x period (i.e. past month, past 6 months, past year)? Doing this item by items is a HUGE waste of time.

Mobile site pages "noindex" ?

I've built a separate mobile site just for use with smartphones. When a smartphone device is detected by java script it redirects the user to the mobile site. Compared to the desktop/tablet version, the mobile site has fewer pages, less content/images and is optimized to work on a smartphone. My question relates indexing of these mobile only pages? Should I restrict the search engines from indexing these mobile only pages using or using the admin panel checkbox to "exclude from Search Results"? Any thoughts on how to treat "mobile only pages" with regards to indexing? Thanks!

File sharing tool?

I have a client that needs to share large files that cannot be emailed. These are not downloads for the general public (i.e. literature), but file sharing with certain individuals or small groups. FTP is too complex and I'm thinking something like Dropbox would be best. Can anyone recommend other options that work well and are easy to use? Thanks.

Grainy text when saved for web

Why do graphics with text and/or images in Fireworks CS5 become more grainy or blury when saved/exported for web use? Compared to results in Photoshop, text, image and graphic rendering when saved for web in Fireworks is lower quality or poor (grainy and blurry). Why?! Should I not use Fireworks and only use Photoshop CS5? Isn't Fireworks designed for creating web graphics? If so, what am I missing? Any help would be appreciated.

Changing User Roles not working

I've changed a role to full "Admin" access, but the system is not presenting all the menu? How do I get the system to update the role/access for a given user? Any help would be appreciated.

I design wine labels and bottle capsules and need to wrap the finished flat artwork around a 3d shape (the wine bottle) for presentation to clients. I don't need the complexity of a full brown 3d program, but the ability to make a 2d label look like a 3d object, including having control over lighting and shadows. I currently use an old program called Adobe Dimensions, which Adobe has dropped and only runs on OS9. I need to learn a new tool that runs on OSX. My labels are created using illustrator and photoshop, primarily photoshop. Can anyone recommend a straight forward approach in Photoshop or other software for doing this? I've reviewed the 3d capability of CS4 Extended, but it seems far too complex for what I'm doing. I don't think this requires building a 3d model, but a more simple approach would be preferred. Any help would be appreciated.

Images on 3D objects

Does Photoshop CS3 or CS4 have a plugin that will allow me to lay an image on a 3d object (i.e. label on a wine bottle). This includes the ability to control lighting and shadows. I previously used Adobe Dimensions software, but that product only runs in OS9, which I no longer use. My understanind is that Vanishing Point will do some of this, but does not do lightning or shadows. Do I need a 3d program, or can it be done in Photoshop? Any help would be appreciated.

Manage Available CSS Classes...confused?

If I have a separate css file with the icestyles.css, should the included styles be removed from any other style sheet and only appear in this icestyles.css sheet? Are these "icestyles.css" only used by InContext Editing to control editor styles? I can't seem to get the class styles in the icestyles.css to appear in the advanced tab.

Also, when I use "Manage Available CSS Classes" in Dreamweaver to select the css file, should the options check boxes (Property Inspector) be checked or unchecked? It's unclear what to do with these options when I use "Manage Available CSS Classes." I'm trying to give the client editing capability, but limit them to only the styles I've defined in the "icestyles.css".

Admin Panel - Site Activity Updates?

I've created publishers for two different sites. On my Admin panel, I can see the activity for each site along with the invites being sent. Will the status be updated in the InContext Admin panel for each site when the invite is accepted? Will I also see editing/publishing activity for each site? So far, the system seems to work quite well, I'm not sure what information I should be seeing on the admin panel. Thanks.
