Photoshop CS6 Has Stopped Working (win7x64, Sept2013)

Same Problem for me. Just started after 6 months of no problems. (no changes to pc in that time)
Thanks for all the tips and tricks discussed in the cs5 thread.

I have one monitor. No graphics card, just onboard Intel HD 4000.
win7x64 ultimate fresh install, only Adobe software on this pc. 12GB Memory, Intel i5-3570k, updated drivers.

i tried opening with defaults
ctrl+alt+shift click on .exe "delete settings file"

=didnt work

i tried removing preferences
C:\Users\Jonny\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings\WorkSpaces (Modified)

=didnt work

i tried renaming (with ~) ScriptingSupport.8li
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Required\Plug-Ins\Extensions

+++++++THIS WORKED+++++++

but now of course i've lost various scripting abilities.

Any comments or discussion i missed about this? Any fixes?

My PC is due for a re-image so i'll update this discussion when that happens.

Is CS6 still supported / trouble with AAM

so i install a few adobe products, like PS, DW, Au (only cs6 versions) on a clean PC.
Adobe Application Manager also listed in my start menu, along with lots of other 'extras'.

i open AAM and wait ages and ages for some update to complete...

Now AAM disappears, and a window opens asking me to log in to the cloud =What?!?!?

i cancel this and discover AAM is missing from my start menu ?????

if i open PS and choose updates, and AAM opens.

In Add/Remove programs i see 187MB Creative Cloud Crap.
i remove this as i dont want, never wanted it, and will not want it in the future.

Now, i've download and install updates for my apps - only cs6 updates install.

But if i open AAM, it says there are 100s of MBs of more stuff -most of which i've already installed. And it says there's some cloud updates, like for DW. Odd, as i couldnt install those updates on my CS6. so will it fail in 4 hours when its finished downloading files?

Just what is going on - could this be more of a mess...

DW Pr Au Plugin updated, errors with PS, read log.
log says error with CC update for PS. =well duh!

and now AAM keeps insisting on the CC update for my PS CS6 v13.0.1

Some of us get no benefit from CC and will not pay more for it. Also i work in a secure location where open free-for-all with the WWW will never be permitted. Especially with a company of Acrobat Reader fame.

So is this mess of updates and extras and mis-identified programs the future of Adobe?

I cant seem to find an answer to this, so maybe someone here could through some light on it.

A bogstandard text box, and some simple text

"All profiles will contain..."

But when i type dot dot dot they move to the front, so it becomes "...All"

And i cant find anywhere a setting to toggle or set.

It does seen a bit odd that the default, out of the box, behaviour is non standard. I'll have a word with Adobe about that. I guess some technition forgot to set it back.

So where is the contol, and what would it be called?

so i have a problem with Adobe Media Encoder...

On the left i have a wmv file queued up a few times - i want to compare a few outputs.
On the right i have Preset Browser.
If i double click on any of the presets i get an error message:
adobe media encoder has encountered an error ...cpp-3157...

I have not found any info on cpp-3157.
I tried to report a bug, but Adobes own form does not have Media Encoder listed.

So now i am, again, going out of my way, spending time i shouldnt, doing Adobes job for them.
Reporting the failure and finding solutions.
Adobe, if you pay testers, get a refund.

Is there a solution to this bug ?

Cloud version vs Suite version

Other than pricing, ownership and support, is there any other differences?
I ask because i was reading about Fluid Grid Design, and many sites proceed to discuss the latest updates (to 12.2 for Cloud version) fix many of the issues users are encountering.
so i check my version and see i have 12.0.1 of Suite version, which i can update to 12.0.3 (at time of wrtiing).
Here's my confusion: will i run into problems, and have to wait for a new Suite Update, or are the latest versions the same (same bugs / same patches) with just different numbering systems ???

proxies

Using a proxy is a great help. But i ran into a problem of Premiere using the low-res proxy in the final render of my project. I assumed Premiere, or After Effects, would have the brains to not use low-res proxies when it comes to outputting a final render.

My next project will have numerous 'replace with ae' clips - do i have manually go back and forth turning off proxies when i want to do final render?

Startup Programs

I've seen this discussed in various forums, but always for a specific item. So sorry if i missed a thread or two.

What i'd like to know is, can i remove ALL adobe entries in my startup folder?

I've just built a nice clean windows 7 pc, and installed numerous adobe products, not the suite just various cs6 trials and non-trials. And as usual there is a mountain of extras. Not a big deal, maybe some are useful, but i really object to all the Startup entries - stuff that i dont want running in the background.

To name a few...

Yes HKCU:Run AdobeBridge

Yes HKLM:Run AdobeAAMUpdater-1.0 Adobe Systems Incorporated

Yes HKLM:Run AdobeCS6ServiceManager Adobe Systems Incorporated

Yes HKLM:Run SwitchBoard Adobe Systems Incorporated

Will i have any issues if i just remove all Adobe entries?

Maybe this should be in PPro forum - sorry if its wrong.

I've finished my PPro project and all is looking good. But there is one clip i'd like to work on it AE. So i did "replace with AE comp", worked on my AE project, saved and closed.

and all is good.

However, now i've tried more advanced work,

so i opened the AE project, did a few things, made a precomp, did a few more things, etc

saved and closed.

But PPro is still only getting the original comp.

All the subsequent work on the nested comps do not show up.

(the final comp is fine if i render it out, but i dont want that in PPro as i loose opacity)

How do i get PPro to see my final comp ?

(soory if any terminology is wrong)

Is this as good as it gets?

Sorry if you've heard this before, but i'm rather disappointed with my new pc...
i5-3570K overclocked 30%, 12 GBram T1 xmp, couple of 500GB Blue drives.

I'm trying to apply some stabilization to some old DV Type 1, Pal, 702x576, clips.

And a 4 minute clip is taking 15mins for analysis, and almost 3hours to render.

I also tried converting to Type 2, resaving as MS Uncompressed no codec, MS uncompresses Y210, Huffyuv before doing Warp Stabilizing.

I've fiddled with memory & multiprocessing settings.

I've even tried VirtualDub with numerous options, but the results are not as good as i originally thought.

Has anybody else ever needed to clean up old camera tape? What did you do?

(i've also tried older versions of PP, AE and AME as some found them better, but it didnt help here)

I've now got numerous avi files from camcorders. These files are typically DV Type 1, Pal, 720x576(1.4587), 25fps, Lower, 48kHz stereo. I need to do a batch job of stabilizing the footage, however my attempts using AE (warp stabilizer) took hours for 1 clip. (new high spec pc)

My attemtps using the free VirtualDub gave the same good looking results in just a few minutes. (i dont know why!)

My main question is should I convert my files to an uncompressed format first?

Again in VirtualDub i found i could save as uncompressed/huffyuv & deinterlace.

I'd like to convert to a sensible intermediate codec / deinterlace if necesary / and stabilize all within an Adobe batch. I do have lots of clips to tidyup BEFORE editing and making pretty movies.

Please, any tips?

I've been watching Adobe TV

And YES, Adobe now caters for, encourages, welcomes, and teaches non-commercial users to use their products.

For years I’ve complained that Adobe didn’t have the codec’s/tools/features for real people using real off-the-shelf equipment. i said its an oversight at best, a serious business flaw at worst. Their advertising was most definitely all-inclusive, not just to 'professionals'. But their products were most lacking.

And here in the forums i kept being told how Adobe was for professionals only with professional tools, and reading further I saw the solution to almost every question was 'first use 3rd party software' to convert/clean/edit/standardise/etc.

So to all you 'professionals' i say HA.

IN YOUR FACE.

With cs5.5 you can use any off-the-shelf cameras (yes, including the seriously low budget/disposable stuff). No need for HD, extra codec packs, 3rd party expensive software. You don’t even need extra plugins (unless you are going for some speciality, obviously!)

So welcome One And All.

network install - is it possible?

before i commit cs5 to my pc, i thought i'd try it out in a virtual space. i'm running Sun's VirtualBox on Win7x64.

I copied all the disks to my pc S:\Library\AdobeCS5 (combining folders like 'payloads')

In virtual box i mapped a drive Z: to \\vboxsvr\AdobeCS5

But setup keeps failing, and AdobeSupportAdvisor says nothing is wrong !!

This all worked with CS4

What am i missing?

PS. If i copy everything to virtual box c-drive it all installs ok.

Stutters, Jumps, Jerks & Hiccups

This is driving insane, so i'd really appreciate any help you can offer.

My Premiere Pro CS5 has a problem: all videos stutter. In preview(source), in the project window, in the sequence window - everywhere. Its happening to all files, of various formats & sources. After a few seconds the video pauses, then jumps forward (the sound continues normally). Often times it looks as thought the video jumps backwards a few frames, plays, then jumps forward to the correct point.

Everything was working perfectly for 6months - so i know the source files are ok, and my pc can cope.
But i dont know what, if any, changes in the last few weeks could have caused this problem.

i've tried...
not using Mercury Engine
reducing my pc to single monitor
installing latest hardware drivers, including video and sound
reinstalling the entire adobe cs5 suite
reinstalling all updates
checked space, defrags, data rates, cpu & memory loads
fiddled with ASIO settings

The videos play just fine in MPC & WMP, and even in WindowsLiveMovieMaker. So it does appear to be a Premiere problem.

My colleague has two new pc's (lucky him). One with CS3 the other with CS4. No other software, yet, just the default XP stuff...

His job is to process media clips that the general public send into us - so they arrive in a *wide* range of formats.

The most popular is, of course, divx, xvid, and the likes. And we have to prepare these things for TV and DVDs.

Our trouble concerns divx. Many videos we receive were easily edited in Premiere Pro 2. But the same vids have video but no sound in CS3, and sound and no video in cs3 - yes the reverse!

We tried reinstalling everything - which is a rant in itself (whats with this Checking System Profile aaahhhh).

I've tried a few things: like using gspot to see whats what. Adding codecs one by one.

Ideally we want CS4 to work as well as Pro2 - not unreasonable i say.

We have a solution of using other software: but does Adobe really want me to use other software?

Can anyone suggest a fix?

CS4 vs CS3 - a quick test

On my super high spec machine, running XPsp3, i tried running both CS4 and CS3 at the same time (yeah i know!)

CS3 = no problems at all.
CS4 = couldnt play videos properly (just flashes random? frames). Some audio tracks were messed up/missing. Exported vids all messed up. Occasional crash. (this was CS4s behaviour before i installed CS3 and tried this little experiment.)

I just started with lightroom - scanned the photos location - and got told theres 13 duplicates...
Where are the duplicates ??????
Its all very well saying photo27 is a duplicate, but where is the 'other' located ?????????

It looks like i am back to 'explorer' to sort out my photos !!!

This, and lack of network useability is really frustrating.

(yes i saw a similar post, but by the time i had logged in i couldnt find it again. And EVERY time i want to log in i have to get a new password - but thats a problem for another forum. Thanks Adobe.)

accent headache

Why wont the accents show up ?
i have a page (utf-8) that calls a list of spanish cities from a mysql table (utf8) via php.
The database table has the correct names (with accents)
The php page will show the correct names if i type them in. (also in source i see letters with accents)
But the php that grabs the names and displays it - will only show [squares] instead of accented letters.

Please anyone, whats going on ??

so i opened my psd and realized that a while back i had made a smart object from the wrong layers. (my point is that i dont have an 'undo' option in my history).
So how can i remove this smart object - i want my layers back.
(oh, and i do NOT want them rasterized!)
