Send form data to Company data entry instead of Customer data entry

I have extended my CRM and I want the fields I have added to be appended to "Companies". When I create a web form with these extended fields and embed it on my website, the input is submited but is recorded for a Company data entry, but all my custom field inputs just get lost. Now, if I do the same thing with a "Customer" data entry (extend my CRM, create web form, embed it, and test), the inputs for the custom fields I have added are recorded to that entry. Why doesn't this work the same way for Companies? Is there something I can do to fix this problem? Please advise.
