CFBuilder 2 Issue with Copy & Cut

I am running the standalone version of CFB2 on a Mac (10.6.7, 3.06 GHz, 8 GB of RAM). In several of my files, after working for a little bit (in said file), I lose the ability to use my Quick Keys for Cut and Copy (I can always paste). Additionally, these options are greyed out from the Edit drop-down menu.

However, if I select text in the editor and right click on it, I am able to use my mouse to select copy or cut. Obviously, this is a pain in the butt and not an efficient way to work. As of now, this behavior appears inconsistent, at best. After not working (cut or copy commands, that is) in the editor for a bit, I may suddenly be able to cut or copy once or twice and then it stops again.

Before I submit a bug report, I wanted to reach out and see if anyone else in the community was having any similar issues.

Thanks!

Craig

Free CF7 WACK Books

Apologies for the non-technical post. My wife is going
through her annual household purge and I have a copy of each of the
following, which she has deemed part of our 008 purge:
ColdFusionMX7 Web Application Construction Kit
Advanced ColdFusionMX7 Application Development (basically,
book two)
ColdFusion MX7 Certified Developer Study Guide

Please note these books are for version 7 of CF. They are in
good condition (read and used but well kept) and provide a nice
desktop reference and/or learning guide.

If no one wants them, I will donate them to a local thrift
store but I live in a very small mountain town (903 folks) and am
the only CF developer in the area. I didn't want the books to go to
waste because I don't think they will sell out here (and they'll
just find their way into a recycle bin, which I really don't want).

I would only ask for the recipient to pay shipping (no
handling, of course, and I will get an exact shipping price from my
post office before "billing"). I'd be happy to ship anywhere in
North America...actually, I do not mind shipping internationally
but I think it might get too pricey outside North America.

If you're interested, please drop me a line at imageaid [at]
gmail dot com.

Thanks,

Setting Color of ColorPicker

Hi,

I feel like I am missing something obvious (checked the
LIveDocs and Googled a ton). I have a Flex-based event management
site. When adding a new event, the event owner has the option to
select their link (and link hover) colors from a standard Flex
ColorPicker. This works without any issues. However, when an event
owner is editing an existing event's details, I need to set the
color picker to show the previously selected colors, which are
pulled from a database.

Colors are stored in the database as strings in the following
format: 0xFFFFFF, 0x537189, etc. If the colors are web-safe, I have
no problem setting the selected color of the ColorPicker:
myCP.selectedColor = uint('0xFFFFFF').

If the color is not web-safe, my code falls over in that the
correct color is not set (all non-web safe colors are set to
0xFFFF00 even though they are in the DB with the proper hex value).

If I manually type in the hexadecimal color value to the
ColorPicker's text field, the color is properly displayed and sent
to the DB correctly when the form is submitted. If I reload the
application, I then see the incorrect color I mentioned above.

Stumped on this one. I've thought about loading a massive
Array of hex values and set it as the DP of the ColorPicker but
that seems like more work than should be necessary. Of course, I
could force the client(s) to use web safe colors but then they'll
just whine about how limiting 216 colors are for links :).

If anyone has some thoughts on this or a solution, I would
really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Craig

Mac CF8 will not start with Java 1.6

I was reading a bit yesterday on problems with calling web
services on CF8 Mac using Java 1.5.x (in short, you can't use web
services). The proposed solution was to upgrade to Java 6/1.6 and
make that the default JDK on Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.4). I have Java
1.6 installed but when I make it the default JDK (I can verify this
is the correct JDK in Terminal), CF8 (8.0.1) will not start (from a
Terminal command or the CF Launcher). It says it cannot initialize
the JVM.

I understand that Java 1.6 will dramatically slow down CF8 on
a Mac but I do need to get web services going for local development
on an application. I'm thinking my 1.6 install is not good but
before going through the headaches to uninstall and install it
again, I wanted to check if anyone else has this issue and, if so,
how they got around it.

FB3/CF8 DataService Does Nothing

I have a "real" application that I, very much, need to use
data management (returning 10,000s of records from the DB to a data
grid) but cannot make it happen.

To get my head around LCDS and Flex 3, I setup a new project
(following the tips in CF8 WACK volume 2, chapter 36). I am using
FB 3 (Beta 3) and CF8 on Mac OS X 10.5.1. When I installed CF8 on
Leopard, I did tell it to install LCDS.

In my data-management-config.xml file I added the following
destination:
<destination id="SFA_Individual">
<adapter ref="coldfusion-dao" />
<channels>

</channels>
<properties>
<component>aems.com.cf.individual.IndividualAssembler</component>
<scope>application</scope>
<metadata>
<identity property="IND_ID" />
</metadata>
</properties>
</destination>

In my services-config.xml, I added the following (well,
uncommented it):
<channel-definition id="cf-dataservice-rtmp"
class="mx.messaging.channels.RTMPChannel">
<endpoint uri="rtmp://{server.name}:2048"
class="flex.messaging.endpoints.RTMPEndpoint"/>
<properties>
<idle-timeout-minutes>20</idle-timeout-minutes>
<serialization>
<instantiate-types>false</instantiate-types>
</serialization>
</properties>
</channel-definition>

I have one MXML file in my application:
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
layout="vertical">
<mx:Script>

import mx.collections.ArrayCollection;
[Bindable]
private var results:ArrayCollection;

</mx:Script>
<mx:DataService id="ds" destination="SFA_Individual"
autoCommit="false" autoMerge="true" />
<mx:DataGrid id="dg" dataProvider="{this.results}">
<mx:columns>
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="First Name"
dataField="IND_Fname" />
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Last Name"
dataField="IND_Lname" />
</mx:columns>
</mx:DataGrid>
<mx:Button id="btn" label="Get Individuals"
click="this.ds.fill(results)" />
</mx:Application>

When I click the button, nothing happens. No errors and no
response from the server. I also tried the same code on a PC (CF8,
FB3 Beta 3) with the same results.

Could someone please help me understand what I am missing? I
would really appreciate any help.

mismatch error (error code 1001). I've gone through the steps to
supposedly fix this but they do not work:
see:
http://www.duzengqiang.com/blog/article.asp?id=681
(steps on this post were taking from an Adobe Forum post in
December 2007).

When I go through the steps, everything works until I get to
step 4, the digest. This never works right and, as a result, my

events. When they enter an event, the select a start and end date
via two DateField components. The data is recorded correctly in the
database (SQL Server 2005). However, when reviewing the event for
editing, it always shows the date as 1 day earlier (really just a
couple hours earlier).

For example, a date in the system that shows 11/1/2007 in the
database (and that's the correct date of the event) comes out in
the Flex DateField (and the DataGrid listing all events) as
10/31/2007. The full date that displays in the Flex application is
Wed Oct 31 22:00:00 GMT-600 2007. The date in SQL Server is
2007-11-01 00:00:00.000.

I think this is timezone related. The server is in EST and
the events are MST and the difference showing appears to be 2
hours. However, I changed the server's (Win 2K3, IIS 6) date &
time in the control panel to match the Mountain Time Zone. Doing
this and reentering the date has not fixed it...

If anyone has any thoughts or experience with this issue, I
would really appreciate it. I'm kinda stumped!

Thanks,

CF/Flex Application Wizard Details Page

Hi,

Not sure if this is possible (seems like it should be). I
have the following data model in SQL Server (2005):
table name (relevant columns)
person (first name, last name)
member (member number)*
contact (email)*
location (state)*

Person is the base object/table and the other three tables
have foreign keys connecting them to the person table (all have a
personId column).

I setup a master page, no problem. I can grab the person's
first and last name, member number, email and state and display
them on the member-master page.

The issue comes when I go to create a member details page. I
can step through and create the necessary form fields from the
tables (connecting them all via their common personId column). When
I go to save the detail's page details, Eclipse (v3.2.x) crashes on
me. Every time. However, if I only create a form for the details
page with two tables (say member and person data), I can create the
details page and use it without any issues.

To get around this seeming two-table limitation, I edited the
Adobe/CF generated content to manually add the beans, DAOs,
gateways and AS files for the other tables. Doing this does create
the desired details page, however, Flex and CF are REALLY slow to
grab/return the requested data to the respective form fields (and
there is not that much to grab in any of these tables).

I'd like to know if this is just how I have to go about it.
Does the CF/Flex Application Wizard have a limit on how many tables
can be joined in a details page?

I have a project with a much more complex data model and
would love to generate a quick application for my client to check
out and I do not know if I've encountered a limit of the
application or if I am doing something wrong in the Query Builder
itself?

Also, any thoughts on why Flex and CF would be so slow to
return the data when I manually added the other tables to the
details page form? I'm on an intra-office network, connecting to a
computer via an ethernet router and the sample DB only has 2000
records in it...all with simple text and date columns?

Sorry for the long post and thanks, very much, in advance for
any thoughts or advice.

Best,

CFMail Relay Messages

I have an event management application that sends
registration confirmations and details to registrants via email.
Nothing big or unusual there. However, the client insists on
keeping their mail server with a separate company.

We have been sending our emails out via cfmail with few
issues. However, because the mail server is on a different
server/IP than that of the website, we occasionally have messages
that get tagged as "spam". The error that comes is returned is:
Remote host said: 553 Bogus helo H104151

I've checked various spam sites and our IP is clean. In fact,
this is the only site on this IP that sends emails out at all and I
know it's not spammy.

So, I thought that I might be able to use the server,
username, and password attributes of the cfmail tag to set the
credentials for the client's mail server. I verified that my
credentials are correct and when I check the mail.log file, I see:
"Invalid Addresses; nested exception is: class
javax.mail.SendFailedException: 571 [Email:to address output here]
prohibited. We do not relay"

This VPS uses SmarterMail as its mail server and I went in
and told it to allow anyone to relay messages. I only made that
change this morning just to test and ensure this wasn't the
problem. After setting the relay to anyone, the same error appears
in the mail.log file.

Does anyone know if this is just not possible or if I'm
missing something in my settings, etc. to make it happen.

Thanks, very much,

labelFunction problems

I'm sure there is something really obviously wrong with my
labelFunction code but I'm stumped...and not-too-bright vis-a-vis
Flex yet! Everything works fine when I do not try and use the
labellFunction to format the date in the DattaGrid below.

AS Code:
private function formatDate(item:Object):String
{
return mmddyyyy.format(item.regDate);
Alert.show(item.regDate);
}
MXML Code:
<mx:DateFormatter id="mmddyyyy"
formatString="MM/DD/YYYY"/>
<mx:DataGrid id="dgOrgCoupons"
dataProvider="{acCouponUsers}" x="10" y="55" width="85%">
<mx:columns>
<mx:Array>
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Name"
dataField="fullName"/>

<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Registration Date"
labelFunction="formatDate"/>
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Event Name"
dataField="eventName"/>
</mx:Array>
</mx:columns>
</mx:DataGrid>

When I add the labeFunction, and this code gets called, it
starts to display the users but stops after showing the first
fullName entry. Everything else is blank in the grid (and
additional entries do not show up). Basically, it halts the
processing but throws no error.

Also, I've added (for testing to try and figure this out) an
Alert.show() statement to the formatDate function but it never even
gets called. It seems like the labelFunction just isn't getting
called when it's in the DataGridColumn tag.

Thanks for any thoughts or advice!

ComboBox - inconsistent Item Selection Across Users

Hello-
I have a Flex event management application I am wrapping up
but, in my testing, noticed an odd issue that I'm not even sure how
to go about checking out.

Issue: One two separate screens of the application our users
search for and select an individual or organization to manage
(i.e., edit their contact information or event registration
details) . When the user is selected (from a Data Grid), a form is
populated with their data. Nothing big there. However, I have two
Combo Boxes on the forms for State and Country.

On all the machines I've tested on, when you select the user,
the Combo Box displays his/her correct state and country. One of my
other testers, when selecting an individual or organization, sees
the prompts (Select Country, Select State) in the Combo Box and not
the correct state/country.

The correct state and country are displayed with the
following:
<mx:ComboBox id="ORGANIZATION_State"
dataProvider="{acStates}" labelField="name"
prompt="{dgOrganizations.selectedItem.ORGANIZATION_State}"/>

Both testers (myself and my associate) use the current
version of the Flash Player (9.*). I've tried in Firefox 1.5 (PC),
Firefox 2 (PC), IE 6 , IE 7, Firefox 2 (Mac), Camino 1.1 Beta,
Safari 2, and Opera 9 (both Mac and PC). He's tried in IE 7 and
Firefox 2 (PC). Once again, it works perfectly for me but he gets
the problem.

Thanks, so much, for any assistance or thoughts on this!

Dynamically Adding Form Fields to CF Flash Form

I think I know the answer to this but, after some failed
Googles, I wanted to double-check here.

I have a Flash-based event registration form I'm working on
in a CFMX application. The layout uses accordions.

If someone is going to register more than 1 person. A visitor
selects the total number of registrations in the first "step". If
they opt to register 2 or more people, I would like to add an
accordion panel for each additional person (this accordion would
have the personal information fields for the added individuals).

I've done this before in some Ajax-enabled forms but my sense
was that it's not possible since CFMX compiles the code for the
Flash form at runtime. Maybe this is something Flex does? I'm just
starting in on Flex but am not very knowledgeable about what it
offers vis-a-vis CF Flash forms.

I'm a long-time PC user and have been working with CFML since
about 2000...all on the PC. I do have a Mac for testing browsers,
etc. but have not done any real development work on it (it's pretty
much an iTunes/Media player for our office).

I recently migrated from Dreamweaver to Eclipse/CFEclipse for
my CFML work and most of my databases are MSSQL. I have a PC server
in my office that houses the SQL Server (2005) but also have a copy
of SQL Server 2005 on my laptop, for developing while on the road.
The database issue is, probably, my main concern migrating to Macs.

Can Mac users develop easily for SQL Server? Does anyone have
any general thoughts/advice on making such a migration? Issues I
should be aware of doing (almost exclusively) CFML development on a
Mac? I'm certainly not trying to start a Mac-PC war...I'm just a
little lost and couldn't find too much Googling on the subject.

Thanks, very much, for your thoughts.
