Cannot Upload File via Send?

I have an .ai file at around 413 megs that I am trying to send through "Send", but keep getting Error: cannot upload file please try again. Been having the same issue for a few weeks. Anyone know file size limits or what might be happening?

I keep having to use wetransfer.com instead which is FREE.

Edit Color

I setup a document in CMYK with the intent to print. After the doc was made, we ended up needing an additional web or "email" version. My solution was to select everything in the document and go to Edit > Edit Colors > Convert to RGB. However, when I view the document on my iPhone (5S) it still appears "Neonish" as if it were still a CMYK doc being rendered digitally.

Is this an iPhone thing?

Is this an incorrect coloring thing?

Ok, admittedly Photoshop is homebase for me. However, I have been using Illustrator lately and am having trouble with something that seems quite simple.

When trying to move objects around with the arrow keys (pixel-by-pixel nudges in PS) they seem to move by much more than one "pixel" at a time. For example: If I have two diamond shaped objects, there are many times that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a corner of one diamond and a corner of the other diamond to touch exactly at their tips. They always are misaligned and have an apparent gap.

Specifically, I have an illustration of a leaf, with another illustration of the center vein of the leaf, but I cannot for the life of me figure out why I can't get the tip of the vein to match up exactly with the tip of the leaf (there is always a small gap between the two).

I thought Illustrator was supposed to be more accurate and practical for this kind of work, but I have none of these problems in Photoshop.

Exponential Blending?

Fig. A is a typical "Specified Steps" blend between the left and right-most diamonds.

I'm looking to do something like Fig. B, where the 'blend' steps are exponential in either direction. My actual use for this is more complicated than the example shown so I need to find a non-manual way to go about this.

Any ideas?

Lock Drop Down Selections?

We've created a Form within Acrobat Pro that contains numerous drop down menus. We've already enabled it for Acrobat Reader users. However, we're looking for a way to have selections "locked" upon saving.

Basically, we are trying to avoid accidental changes to a completed form once saved.

Ideally, a user would:

1) Open our form

2) Make selections

3A) Save completed form

3B) Fields "lock"

Workspace: Opaque Application Background?

I did this for CS6 but am at a loss for how to do it in CC.

I'm on a Mac and want my workspace to have a solid background instead of being able to see through it onto my desktop; similar to what you would see when first openning Illustrator on a Windows PC. Doing this also adds the minimize, close, etc. buttons to the header.

Resize a Group of Objects?

I'm looking for a way to select multiple objects (all identical) and resize them all at once without also changing their positions.

Said another way, I'd like to resize a group of identical objects but instead of there being a single center/anchor point in the middle of the bounding box, I'd like each object within the group to retain it's center/anchor point (so multiple anchor points) and resize based on those positions.

Can this be done?

Die Cut Printing?

I'm looking for a good resource to print custom sized bookmarks with two rounded corners (die cut). It's been surprisingly difficult find anyone that will do this. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Gradients & Objects

Hi all,

I have a pile of individual objects to which I'd like to apply a single gradient. The default effect is that the gradient gets applied to each object individually. I'm looking for a way to apply that gradient as if the pile of objects were a single object.

Is there an easy way to do this?

I'm looking for a way to draw a single, solid object and then divide that object into multiple objects using the pen tool; not other objects.

Ex: Draw a solid cirlce, use the pen tool to draw lines over said circle (visually creating different shapes), then [do something] with both the original circle and the pen-drawn lines to actually create the new shapes/objects.

I've done this before by placing other OBJECTS over the original object and then using the divide or trim pathfinder toggles, but using other shapes (even the line tool) has its limitations.

Any ideas?

Icon Size vs. Font Size

So, I am working on a large display wall for a tradeshow. There are several messages we, as a company, tend to convey to our clients over and over. I decided to "Brand" these messages by creating icons or "badges" that represent each. I have used them in several places (beyond this display wall).

The idea is that engagement flows in order of: Icon > Message >Description with the Icon being the larger element, the Message second-largest, then the description as the smallest piece.

This reiterates that visual queues can be used to prep a viewer for a more complex message, and increase the likelihood that viewer retains that message when he or she walks away. See below:

I feel this breaks both aesthetic and functional flow. Yes, the badges are "artistic" in that they create visual interest, but they serve a real function. The human brain has largely evolved to use visual queues to represent and encapsulate more complex or abstract information. An example is written language: messages are made of words, words are made of letters, letters are simply abstract shapes that, when assembled appropriately, create meaning.

**Note the "Altered" image is just a quick mock to convey my colleague's idea. In some way, he wants the message title above both the icon and description, and larger than both.

The other difficulty here is that what you are seeing, from left to right, bends around a very narrow curve, narrow enough that you could not read text runing from extreme left to extreme right wihout physically walking around the curve - so it is is imperative that text runs from extreme left to center.

Can I get some designer / user feedback on this? What are your opnions between the two images? Any insights on this?

Drop Shadow; Performance

Every time I use the drop shadow effect on an object file size spikes and performance dramatically declines.

My main concern here is the drop in performance.

I have had no other performance issues building this large print document and my Mac easily keeps pace and is snappy. However, when I add the drop shadow, everything bogs down to just above completely frozen. It takes about 20 minutes just to save the Illustrator file (faster outputting a press quality PDF). Openning the file takes just as long. Both processes sap 6 GB of free RAM down to about 10 megs :'( and my Mac never quite recovers until I restart.

Are there performance optimizations hidden somewhere in Illy? These are found in Photoshop as tiling and cache optimizations that really help when working with small or very large documents.

Gaps Between Objects

So, when I have two closed-path objects resting against one another (say two squares, edge-to-edge) I see a very thin white line / gap at certain zoom levels, mostly when zoomed out or at 'fit art... to window'. However, when I zoom waaay in, the gap vanishes.

The question is, which zoom level do I trust? Application is for print.

Anchor Point of a selected Object?

In PS you can drag the center anchor point of an object anywhere within the object or canvas, allowing you to rotate around that custom location versus the dead-center of the object.

Effect on Res When Doubling for Print?

SCENARIO:

I'm building graphics for a large display wall, too large for Illustrator to handle in actual size.

So, I'm working at half the actual dimensions and at 150 ppi. I want the final file for print to be actual size (obviously) plus be 300 ppi.

A company will be doing this, and because I'm not sure what they do to double my file for print, I'm not sure what the effect will be.

QUESTIONS:

1) If I build vector graphics at half size, 150 ppi, when they double, will it actually be at 300 ppi?

2) If I add photos (raster) at 300 ppi to the 150 ppi artboard, will they retain 300 ppi when the final file is doubled on their end, or will it be bumped up to 600 ppi?

Dragging the guide, while zoomed in and using the info window, is helpful but still off.

Share PDF Save Presets

I'm looking for a simple way to share PDF save presets. Ideally, some kind of package I can email to both Mac and PC users for use in both Acrobat Pro XI and Illustrator CS6. Would likely be used mostly in saving .ai to PDFs in Illustrator.

Manually describing save settings through email always leads to user-inaccuracy. Would be great if there was a file type that, when opened, just plugs itself into relevant programs with PDF export or save options.

Would really appreciate some help on this!

Cannot Size Objects

The normal selection tool will no longer change to a resize cursor for objects (when close to that object's bounding box). Instead, it shows the arrow with a little square on the bottom and X, Y coordinates. When I hover over an object, the cursor changes to an arrow-tip only, with no "stem". Right now, the only way I can change the size of something is via the transform > scale option, which is not good.

What happened? please help!

Bleed Help (Exporting PDF)

I am attempting to setup my bleeds accurately. I am using an InDesign document set with 4mm bleeds and linked AI files also with 4mm bleeds. Everything seemed to be in place but after exporting as a PDF I am seeing something unexpected:

On any given spread with bleeds, the right edge of the left page shows up on the left edge of the right page, and conversely, the left edge of the right page shows up on the right edge of the left page.

When I export a PDF with the "Spread" setting instead of "Pages", the edges seem fine and match up from left to right.

Is this accurate or is something off?

Interface Performance - Premiere CS6

I am experiencing extremely sluggish interface performance using Premiere Pro CS6. As an example, moving from the sequence to the "effects" panel is a very laggy transition. Further, adjusting the X/Y coordinates of an object is a nightmare. Video playback (even when set to 1/2 playback res and 1/2 pause res) is also surprisingly slow. I have used Premiere Pro CS5 on a moderately beefy PC and have had less trouble. This is surprising, considering the machine I am on now:

8 GB RAM

512 Solid State Drive

AMD Radeon HD 6770M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory

Smart Object Selection Highlight

Anyone know how to disable border highlighting when selecting a smart object in the layers panel? Designing pixel-to-pixel is cumbersome when the highlight appears and temporarily extends the size of the shape by 1 px. It's just a bit of a nuissance.

Alright, I was working in an RGB doc in PS and sloppily attempted to Command + Z. Instead of undoing my last step I somewhow converted my entire canvas to grey-scale colors. I checked and I'm still in RGB.

Text not Highlighting

UPDATE: It looks like the highlighting "Function" still works, as I am able to select text with an invisible highlight, copy, and then paste - but no color shows when highlighting.

Record to Desktop in Premiere / OnLocation MIA?

With the CS5 suite I was able to use OnLocation to capture video via a connected camcorder. And that was super. However, OnLocation seems to be missing in CS6. Has it been retired or is there a replacement or updated feature in Premiere that takes over OnLocation's utility?

If OnLocation has been nixed, Is there a way to do this same basic function (capture video and sound to the desktop via a connected camcorder) in Premiere CS6? What makes this more complicated is the fact that NO camcorders using flash / SD cards seem to have firewire ports and only come with USB connections - and video will not stream through USB.

The camcorder I happen to be using does have an HDMI-out port. If I connect the camcorded to my computer using an HDMI cable, will Premiere CS6 pick up the feed? And further, will "Capture" actually record the video feed? What about audio?

Any feedback would be helpful!

Image Masks?

I've always gotten this warning after saving a PDF containing JPEGs. What is it, how does it affect my final PDF, and how can I fix it?

My main concern here is whether or not I could be getting smaller file sizes out of my final PDFs if this warning were "fixed".

Editing JPEG images and PS

First, I am wondering if Illustrator (CS6) has the ability to manipulate JPEG or raster images in any way, namely erasing pixels with the erase tool.

I am jumping back and forth between Photoshop and Illustrator and would like to consolidate the process into Illustrator as much as possible. JPEG images are necessary for this project but the bulk of the work must be done in Illustrator.

Illustrator and/or PS to AI workflow suggestions are very much welcomed!

Merge All Layers?

Looking for a quick, one-step method for merging all layers.

Usually, I Select the top-most layer, then shift-click the bottom-most layer (selecting all layers between), then right click and hit "merge layers".

Simple enough - but I'm working on an "action" and recording the method above is limited because it relies on a file's specific layer names. I want to be able to use this action as a generic action for any project with multiple layers.

Is there a better way to do this or a File > Merge All option I'm missing?

Ideally, I'd like to be able to just say "extract pages: 9 & 10 save, 11 & 12 save, 19 & 20 save, etc.", and press "Go". Basically something similar to actions and batch processing in Photoshop. Rendering Gaussian Blur

When apply the "Drop Shadow" effect to an object, I get very, very long render times on Gaussian blur. Granted, this is being done on a relatively large document (3' x 5'), but when I monitor my processor and ram usage, I am below 50% on both during render time. I would assume that if something is taking that long to render, my processor at least should be running near 100%. Why is this process taking so long?

Any insight or suggestions?

I have never had trouble with this before.

For some reason whenever I create a new shape (square, cirlce, etc.) or draw a line, it is automatically added to the currently selected layer (as a rastered graphic?)

Before, no matter what layer was selected, drawing a shape automatically created a new (unrastered?) layer with a thumbnail that could be used to select its color and had to be rasterized to perform certain actions.

What happened?

I am wanting to throw a few small images and videos on top of a larger video. I want to bend and skew the images and videos so that they look like they are pulled away from the background video.

An analogy might be laying a small piece of paper on top of a large piece of paper (both planes parallel) and then curving the smaller one's two edges up a bit so that it is no longer flat against the larger paper.

Is there an effective way of doing this?

I have some experience in flash and actionscript, but not much beyond the classroom in a book tutorials, etc.

I am working on an idea and just need a little help figuring out where to begin.

I would like to create a simple 2D interactive grid. The user should be able to increase and decrease the number of axis (both X and Y simultaneously) that compose the grid, and also the scale of the grid itself (Zoom in and Out).

If this goes well enough, I would like to be able to plot graphical content on the grid that visually changes as the grid itself changes. They should, in some way, be linked to one another and correspondingly affected by the same two parameters. This, however, would be a second step. I am more concerned with the base grid model at this point.

ANY help would be very much appreciated!
