Bulleted lists in a Custom Field for products

A customer wants products with a bulleted list separate of the product description (to be able to place it on another section of the Large Product Display.) My solution was to place the information in one of the 4 custom fields, like so:

<ul><li>Excellent performance and durability.</li><li> Top-quality design.</li><li> Made of 100% leather.</li></ul>

I know this to work in HTML, but the bullets do not display in BC. The items break into lines, but no bullets.

Can it be done in a custom field, or is placing the bullet list in the description the only way BC can read the HTML code?

Seeing noticeable lags in BC performance

Our office has been experiencing noticeable lags in the administrative area of BC. It has occurred across the board with all our websites. When clicking on SAVE or OKAY, or updating any of the modules, we are getting the spinning circle for at least 20 seconds or more, and a good many times, the only solution is to hit the page refresh and hope the changes made were kept. This problem has grown just in the past couple of weeks.

Any BC staff got any ideas? I know we're on the correct server, and the problem occurs in both Firefox and Chrome (both on Mac). Or, do you think it could be on our end?

Business Catalyst and Facebook problem

I have seen threads on this subject as well as the articles, but I am not certain the problem was answered. I have added a Facebook "like" button to my Large Product Display (and the button works). The large product display has several upsell/cross-sell items on it.

When I am testing it, I go to my FB page and look to see that it has indeed been posted. However, 2 problems show up.

1. The photo shown is not the main item, but one of the upsell/cross-sell items.

2. The descriptive text is using my footer text as the description.

Where did I go wrong?

I want to use the main photo and the product description (both of which are in the product's information). Is there a modifcation I can make to the module? Is something else needed?

Payment Options, Paypal Pro and it ain't working.....

Okay, we just got a site up and online (shopsweetsandtreats.com) and we are testing the catalog/shopping experience. Our client is using Paypal Pro as her payment gateway. Under payment options on the Registrartion-Buy form, I deleted all the unused options and left Paypal (option 5). This resulted in an error message, shown here.....

We submitted a Support request and were told that we needed to change the paypal option number from 5 to 1 in the HTML form. Which we did. Now, the error message is gone, but all we get is a receipt screen showing that payment has been made (even though it hasn't).

The form is supposed to redirect to Paypal to continue the transaction, but it does not.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Open a PDF in a browser - can BC be coded for this?

Hi All,

Just a quick question. We have a client who wants PDFs to open in reader's browser. All the PDFs are located in the Media Downloads and there are quite a few.

Given the number of different browsers as well as desktop versions, pad and mobile device versions, is there a code I can place on my page templates to force any PDF to open in the client's browser? Right now, a pop-up window asks if they would like to download the PDF. Our client would like to bypass that.

I recently found a post on the old forum (2009) that said that Web Apps and ECommerce cannot be integrated. Is this still the fact?

A client wants to display products in a chart (not in small product displays, as is the rest of the site). There would be a quantity field as well as an "Add to Cart" function. An example would be the following:

Image Product Code Product Name Color Size Quanity Add to Cart

If it can't be done, we can add a hyperlink to a Large Product Display and let the customer shop from there (although we would have to update the chart manually)

Ideally, if it CAN be done, we could use the appropriate tags to update the display information from the Products database.

Could someone let me know one way or the other?

Sorry for the title, but I really needed to get people's attention... we have a client website www.rocorescue.com.

If you click on TRAINING in the menu bar, it will take you to the training page and on the right hand side is a list of classes you can take. They all use the same template.... BUT, every OTHER item in that list does not load correctly. They are missing the photo at the top of the template. Not every item, mind you, every OTHER item in the list..... This just started today.

I really need some guidance here.

Custom Templates other than the standard ones in Online Shop Modules?

Large Product Display not printing properly in Firefox when using a Print CSS stylesheet

Okay, client wants their users to be able to print their web pages (articles, product descriptions, et al), without headers, footers, sidebars, etc... No problem. I set up a print.css stylesheet and with some online research and experimentation, was able to get a pretty good looking printed page.

Until that pesky Large Product Display....and Firefox.

If the product is less than one 8.5x11 page in length, no problem. It prints on one sheet.

However, if the product and its descriptions are LONGER than a single page, a blank page appears BEFORE the product AND the product description (now on page 2) is cut off, not jumping to the following page. Oh, and it prints a 3rd blank page. Yet, in Chrome, the blank first page is gone and the entire Large Product Display is shown and split between pages.

As I said, I am using a CSS stylesheet to format the printing, and I have added divs to the Overall Catalog layout to prevent the breadcrumbs and Cart Summary to print. All page templates contain the appropriate code for using a print.css stylesheet.

Printer View, CSS stylesheets, and tag_pagecontent... oh my....

Stupid or silly question time....

We are in the process of altering several of the websites we manage to include a print stylesheet, basically deleting header, sidebar and footer information from the printed version. In the tutorials I have visited, to hide these items, the following code is used:

#header, #nav, .noprint {display: none;}

Can this be simplified or altered to just say to print {tag_pagecontent}?

I'm just trying to simplify my workflow as I have many different page templates over different sites to alter, and my CSS knowledge isn't up to the challenge. I know just enough to know I ain't in Kansas anymore.

Transfer CRM from one BC site to another?

We have a client with a site on BC which has been operational and collecting CRM data for the better part of a year. Now the client has a SECOND BC site and wants to transfer the CRM to the new site. Not just the customer data but the CASE HISTORY as well. In fact, every interaction the customer has had with the old site.

Can this be done through reports?

Can I have multiple workflows in a single webform?

ALSO,

To those BC staff reading this, how do we as users access the OLD tutorials and forums?

I found (through Google) links to areas which may have had the answer to my question, but I cannot access them again, nor does typing a question in this new forum area get me to the correct area. It defaults to the main forum page or the main tutorial page. It's frustrating because I have to wait for an answer instead of finding it already answered and implementing it without bothering anyone.

Can y'all just make them accessible again? Please?

View an Interactive PDF, but print from a print PDF version....possible?

We are in the process of creating interactive PDF catalogs (basic stuff, product sheets, charts, etc...) for our clients. The catalog has a tab navigation on the outside edges (to the different sections) as well as a button navigation system across the bottom (zoom, home, next page, print, etc...). On the screen, it looks great, but to print it, well, isn't as great.

So, my question is... is it possible to have the INTERACTIVE PDF print function access a PRINT version of the same PDF, so that the client's customers can get a clean version that can be inserted into a binder, without all the navigation and tabs? The information needed is technical and accessed fairly often by the customers, usually without the benefit of having a computer or pad around to access the PDF.

I had seen this question earlier on the forums, but, I couldn't find it again, nor was the question answered.

New page not being opened in new window when using a dynamic menu

I have read an earlier post about this but I didn't really see a solution I could implement there. I have a dynamic menu, and I want one item on it to open a new frame. Here is the module code from the template.

{module_menu, version="2", menuId="901683", moduleTemplateGroup="Default"}

It is the main template menu from the Tribeca site template.

I have tried inserting (_blank) into the appropriate target frame, and still it opens in the same window. I gathered from the previous post that it was a version issue, but as you can see, the code says "version 2"... or am I mis-reading that?

I couldn't find where to make changes. The previous post suggested I look for the CSS on the home template, but I am not using a home template.

Any thoughts?

Is it possible to transfer a complete CRM from one BC site to another?

And I mean complete. Everything. All orders, cases, etc.... every bit of interaction that the customer has had. Let me be specific in this, I would like to move ALL customers, their case information, order information, every field at one time. I am dealing with about 1,200 customers and I cannot afford to make a mistake in the import by trying to combine customers and orders, customers and cases, etc...

I asked this about 3 months ago and no one responded. The company has created a new sales site and wants ALL the information from the old site of everyone who has purchased a product from them, and/or who has created a case or made a subscription.

I can easily move the customers themselves, but I need to know if I can move everything.

Can someone confirm a PayPal Payment Gateway issue for me?

Not really an issue, but a head-scratcher.

We have a client with a site that accepts PayPal. We had the site up and online and it worked. Due to other issues with the client, we had to bring the site down. Now, we are about to bring it back online. But when we test the shopping cart and checkout, (through PayPal Standard), the site redirects to PayPal Sandbox.

The Payment Gateway still has the correct information in it, and at this point, the site is NOT up.

After reading some earlier posts, I suspect that we have to bring the site online to test the PayPal issue? And at that point, BC will redirect the browser to the correct PayPal screen?

Is this the case?

Google +1 questions

Since I haven't seen many posts on the subject, I need some guidance. Perhaps others can use this info as well.

My client wants a Google +1 button on a large product display. Easy enough. I went to the Google +1 page and got the following code....

I inserted it into my Large product display shopping module template and it works...mostly. However, the image it picks up for the display is one of the images in the background, NOT the image of the product. How do I modify this code to read the {tag_largeimage}?

Does American Express require any extra coding to work in BC?

last week, we took our client online with their shop and have experienced our first issue with the Registration Buy form. The client received a call from a customer that our form would not take American Express as a card. I checked the form and yes, Amex is listed as a card option. (I did not change that). I did not change the script at the bottom of the page either. The client is using Authorize.net (US only) as the gateway.

Any thoughts? Anybody? Beuller?

Captcha error message

We have a client who wants a newsletter submission form without a captcha field. We have tested the form, but recently, we are getting the following error message...

Multiple requests per IP address are rate-limited for forms without a CAPTCHA. Please contact the site owner or try again later.

My assumption is that it is a security measure to prevent spamming, etc...

Am I correct?

If not, does anyone have an idea of the reason that it is there and how do I correct it either way?

Product displays and Internet Explorer issues in new site

Okay, I'm flummoxed.

We just launched a redesign of a site (www.geniefilters.com) and I am getting a strange view of our products catalog when viewing in Internet Explorer on a PC. (The site was created on a Mac, through a BC template site).

The products SHOULD display in 3 columns, however in IE, only the left-hand column is showing....and no, the items are not forced down into a single line. Only the products that would normally appear in that column are showing. Item 1, item 4, 7, 10, etc...

The catalog was created from the shopping module templates in BC and looks fine when viewed on a Mac. It also works fine on a PC, using Google Chrome or Firefox.

Could I get someone else to look at the pages and let me know if they spot a problem? Or is there an IE issue I am not aware of?

Cannot access email accounts for a WebBasics+ client

I am trying to access email acounts for a client who is using a WebBasics + account. I am using the current BC interface and when I click on the email tab, nothing happens. However, I can switch back to the Old Interface and access it through there. Is this a BC issue, or did we miss something in the way Web Basics + Plans are being handled?

I am getting very frustrated. As of this afternoon, everytime I go to save changes in my CSS, my browser starts giving me the spinning ball of death. It has happened in both Firefox and Google Chrome. I have to reboot the program everytime.

Might need a BC Guru's help with catalog images

Ran into an issue I can't solve. In a nutshell...

I uploaded a series of images to a website for use as catalog images. I did not check to see if they were the correct size (and yes, I have learned my lesson there). Realizing the mistake, I group deleted the larger images from their folder via FTP, and replaced them with smaller images with the same name.

On the following web page, I hope you see what I'm seeing.

All the images are the same porportions and dpi (90x90px at 72dpi). The CSS and HTML are the same, and all are reading from the Catalog Display Module.

Yet, some of them seem to be reading from the larger images that I previously deleted. There were others that did the same yesterday, but they seem to have corrected themselves. I have quit my browser, emptied the cache, but no luck. I am using Firefox, but Google Chrome displays the same thing.

My only thought is that MAYBE B.C. is somehow using a cache image that should have been deleted? That's why I am asking for an employee's (or Guru's) thoughts.

Changing to North American Dates in Announcement Module

I am trying to switch the dating system in my announcements to a more traditional view. Instead of Day/Month/Year, I am needing Month Day, Year. I found the javascript code on the Knowledgebase as well as the repost here on the forums. To a certain extent, I have been successful in following it. I have managed to create the new date, but the OLD date still appears before it as well. I am uncertain how to get rid of it.

Is BC really slow or is it on my end?

We (our company) is having issues with the slowness of BC.

An example. Today, I am adjusting tax codes on BC. When I click on a state, I get a 3-4 second delay in the information appearing, then another 3-4 second delay when I save the information. I know 3 to 4 seconds is not a lot, but when you're deaiing with all the states, it gets cumbersome. The others in the office who also use BC are reporting slowdowns in different areas.

1. We are on the North American Servers.

2. It seems the newer versions of BC have gotten progressively slower. Or is it just me?

transferring module templates from one BC site to another....

This may be a simple question with a simple answer.

I want to transfer module templates from one BC site to another (IE, shopping displays, carts, customized contact forms, etc...). Easy enough in practice...just cut and paste the HTML.

My question is, how does BC direct the templates? If I create a shopping cart in Site A and cut and paste it into Site B, does BC automatically tie it to the new site? The same with contact forms. Cutting and pasting cuts way down on recreating work already done.

Maybe a not-so-smart question...but it has nagged me.

Volume discount on the catalog, not the product...

Is that possible?

Our client wants a specific catalog on the web site to have a volume discount. You purchase 40 of any of the items in that catalog and the price drops.

1. There are several different catalogs on the site with different pricing structures, so this isn't something I want to implement site wide.

2. I have already considered volume discounts on the individual items, but one would have to purchase 40 of a single product to get the discount. She wants the customer to purchase different quantities of different products (5+10+3+7+15) totalling 40, at which point the volume discount would kick in.

Can this be implemented?

Can someone either answer my question or direct me to a tutorial on this subject?

Currently I have items in a catalog that are grouped together, and, I have placed the appropriate tag {tag_grouping} into my large product display and it works.

However, as ever, the client does not want a dropdown, but radio buttons.

How is this tag modified to show radio buttons, if possible?

Module Templates and issues with Paragraph Styles and CSS styles

I am having difficulties with styling text in my module templates in BC (especially the blog). The paragraph style dropdown in the editor does not reflect the H1, H2, etc... that was uploaded into the site when it was created in Muse. Nor, do I have the option of using CSS styles. What gives?

How do I change the paragraph styles to match the uploaded versions as CSS is not available?

Continue Shopping Button in the Shopping Cart

Once again I post.....

I am in need of "Continue Shopping" button in a shopping cart. Creating the button image is done, and I have tried to use the {module_goback}, however, this module does not work. (it does nothing when clicked). I assume that since the catalog does not exist as a page, that is why it does not work. There are no tags available to create this, so I am asking for guidance.

Tax Code and Attribute Pricing

I need some clarification.

A client has a catalog, in which, many of her problems are sold in 3 sizes, each with their own price AND quantities. To simplify matters, we have created the 3 product sizes as product attributes. I have linked the catalog below.

In addition to their price, we must charge Louisiana sales tax. However, after reading through many of the tutorials and forums here on BC, I discovered that we cannot have Sale Prices as well as Attribute Prices. (BC adds both prices together). This creates a problem. The tax code for the product (which should be 8.5%) does not show up in the shopping cart. My import file correctly lists the tax code for the items, but when I check BC under the products list, it tells me no tax is applied. Am I correct that a Sale Price must be present for BC to compute the tax?

How do I get the tax code to apply to the attribute price without having to go through all the items and select the proper tax code manully?

If we weren't on such a tight deadline, I would keep on searching, but our time is limited.

Bizarre Dashboard behavior

Okay, I have posted on this before, and I have gotten no answers.

The basics: We have several companies whose sites we manage on BC. On only ONE of them, the Dashboard is screwed up. (See photo). The Site Manager tab is NOT appearing at all. I have checked it on 2 Macs using the Firefox browser and a PC, using Internet Explorer as a browser. I get the same result on all three. All other sites in BC work fine. I have to use the old interface to access the pages, templates, etc...

Can someone give me an explanation on this? It's becoming annoying, as this client is making changes to get her on-line business up and running.

Would like to export data from PDF form as plain text for other applications.

If this has been answered, I apologize and hope that someone will point me to the right place to see the answer.

PROBLEM: I have created a PDF form to be filled out and returned via email to specific email addresses. I want that email to show the data being returned as plain or rich text (either will do) in a simple email. I need this because the information will be used in different applications (print, web, etc...). I just need text that can easily be cut and pasted by people not that sophisticated in their use of computers.

I understand this may be a javascript function in the Actions menu of the Submit button. But, I rarely do forms through Acrobat and this is new to me.

Any helpful response is as always, greatly appreciated.
