Create box outside container / multiple containers

Is it possible to create an container outside the default container? I want to create an container Boostrap style (width: 1170px) but with an full width header and footer. What about designing one-page sites? Is this possible? Like:

[full width header with menu in container]

[fullscreen image]

[centered text]

[full width image]

[two columns]

[full width footer]
