Yesterday I convered a 31 slide training simulation for a piece of software.

All captions and objects and movements converted cleanly AFTER I got an initial prompt telling me the .swf was not a valid CP .swf

Since I'm persistent, I went ahead and told it to load the .swf again. It then loaded and converted.

It would be useful to understand the output format but since I just dl the release notes, I hope to find more info there about the struture of the conversion

Manual CP5 Patch Installation Problem

Greetings,

We have several systems that due to Army requirements cannot go online. We have installed Captivate 5 but when attempting to install the patch from a thumb drive, we have gotten "Installation failed" errors.

The DL page for the patch has no manual install instrucitons. We are running Windows 7 on Dell 600 laptops.

Any suggestions?

Maximum # of Steps in Multilevel list

I am using a multi level list in the "Description Step" style.

After Step 10, the list revert to Step 1

Does anyone know:

If there is a parameter that I can set to expand this?
How do I find and edit said parameter?

Topic status changes under RHSC

Hi folks,

I have gotten RHSC up and running with some help from John Daigle and my network team. Thx John!

Now I am developing a new project from scratch, a RH toolkit for the other developers

I need to update the topic to do list, but when I click on "properties" (the files are checked out me)

,the system loads a the SC module and shows me the topic on the server.

I just want to update the to do statues as I go through my development cycle.

Help please!

AIR Printing partial topics

Hi folks,

Is anyone else finding that AIR printed ouput seems to cut off part of the topics when printed from the AIR module's print menu?

I am going to report this as a but as I have reproduced the error several times in the last few days. I just printed a topic from both webhelp and airhelp. Webhelp output is 7 pages, AIR only 3 pages

RH Source Control and MS SQL server 2008 Express Edition?

Hi Folks,

We are finall getting out virtual server for RHSC. the PM asked me a few Qs yesterday, to wit:

Can we use MSQL server 2008 instead of MSQL server 2005
How long might is take to configure the RH-SC package? (They give us the server to configure the app, then take it back for "hardening into production". I am assuming that 1 week would be more than adequate. Does that make sense?)

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Search NOT working in AIR

I just viewed Jaquez's video on how to create the AIR help the other day. The current project is reasonable sized, 150 topics. The Webhelp works quite well as a demo we just did yesterday got goor responses from a main marketing person and a VP. When I used the procedure I learned in the video to create the air help (dummy digital cert) RH generated the AIR help, but the search does not work? I just saw a sample of an AIR help that Peter G. put together and that search seemed to work. Any idea, folks?

Folks,

We are getting nioce comments from our Tech Support team. They all really like to AIR format and now we are going to build a master version in AIR format that will contain 4RH modules that I have merged for Webhelp into 1 AIR module that our internal team will use

The next task to find a mechanism to turn them into a report.

Been some time since I have done any xml parsing. What tool can I use to process the comments?

Incomplete TOC in Word output

I am working on making a small intro piece of the RH8.01 project to serve as a customer onboarding tool.

First rev I left the default TOC inplace but selected only those 12 tpoics I want to use. (FYI, I am building some small Cap4 sims to be inserted in the .pdf when this process works correctly.) The result worked except that only the Glassary and Index pages were in the TOC.

2nd rev I built one TOC book called "Intro: and then addeed my topics to it. The result was the same with only the Glassary and Index pages in the

TOC.

I could use the full TOC and simply remove the folders and topics I don't need, but that seems rather inefficient.

Any direction or thoughts folks?

I am building multiple projects that we will merge shortly. A team mate with minimal RH training is working on the last project. Her task was to index the topics I have imported and the make folders for the new imports that I have been preparing externally.

Now there are a number of new folders that correspond to the new tree we made for the material. This portion is a Knowledgebase.

I can see the folders in Explorer and in the Topic list, but not in the PM view. As A result I am unable to import any topics to their folders. The folders to all have the .fpi files in them so I know RH made them. I cannot delete them either from Explorer.

Perhaps someone knows where I need to tweak RH so the folders show in the PM Pod, allowiing imports?

Cleaning up multi- CSS files

Hi Folks!

I have build my first RH project (Webhelp and AIR) by importing topics from an existing system. Initially, Imported all my topics and THEN organized them into folders and build my TOC from the folders.

We need to cleanup the existing master .CSS. I just went through all my topics in an External Editor (Ultra Edit - hightly recommended) to make sure that all topics point to the top level .CSS which I just sent a team mate who is working on the "branding".

The other .CSSs are in the system, but I can only see their folders via Explorer. Can I delete them from explorer or is there another preferred way to remove them from the system. It seems silly to have to maintain multiple copies of the same .CSS

Suggestions please.

Do we need to have Robo Server to enable commenting?

I am sorting out the requirements re RoboAIR help. If we wish to have folks inside our firewall be able to enter comments, do we need to have RoboHelp server inplace? The help systems I am converting to Robo assist call center CSRs. A VP is looking for feedback and comments from those CSRs to help improve the quality of the help system. Has anyone implemented comments in an AIR help system? If so, it would be great for you to share your process!

Recording Dropdown Windows

We are recording a lot of software simulations for a client project. A number of them have windows style drop down menus. There is a problem taking manual screen captures that include the dropdowns since the capture key (or any key struck on the kb) causes the drop down to disappear.

Here is the workaround we have just developed. Run a MS netmeeting between 2 systems, one running the Captivate, the other running the application you are building the simulation for. Now when you access a drop down, your partner can take the shots.

Tip. You have to keep the mouse off the the right of the screen on the "application" system to avoid confusion and autohide the Windows toolbar for the same reason.

This technique obviously requires coordination between you and your partner via phone or netmeeting audio, but it does solve the problem of the disappearning drop downs!
