Triggering keyDown while commandDown in OSX

I use the keyDown event to trigger various conventional keyboard shortcuts such as ctrl-c to copy, ctrl-v to paste. The problem is that in OSX the command key blocks the keyDown event in Director so instead of the OSX convention of command-c I have to instead use control-c. I can test the key events in a frame script and verify the _key.commandDown flag but the normal keyDown event is never triggered while the command key is pressed. Is there some workaround or setting to get this to work as expected? Or perhaps a different event which will work the same as the keyDown?

What are some examples of current iOS apps created in Director?

Just wondering if anyone can give me the names of some current, downloadable apps in the app store for iPhone/ iPod touch that were created in Director? Just want to get an idea as far as stability, performance, interface etc. and whether it's a viable platform for app development.

BuddyAPI baGetFilename not opening in correct location in OSX Mavericks

I have an application built in Director 11.5 using BuddyAPI xtra file selection dialogue baGetFilename. In OSX Mavericks (10.9.4) the dialogue doesn't seem to open in the specified path any more. It seems to default to the path last accessed in the previous file open dialogue. This has worked reliably in previous versions so I assume something has been changed in 10.9 that is confusing it.

Has anyone else come across this issue? Can anyone suggest a workaround or alternative for the file selection dialogue. I basically need to specify the path for the file selection dialogue so I can open the appropriate folder for the type of file rather than relying on the end user to successfully navigate to the location every time. I also need to filter the dialogue to particular file types. Is there an alternative to the BuddyAPI xtra that is compatible with Director 11.5 and Mavericks? Is there a workaround to get BuddyAPI to work correctly?

So I haven't been frequenting this forum for a while but it would seem to be pretty dead these days. Has everyone abandoned Director or have they just migrated to a different forum?

Flash Sprite Convert #BitmapData Wrong Type Error

When using a flash sprite to convert an image to #BitmapData I get a "Wrong Type" error. Does this only work with specific image types? Any ideas on what might cause this error? The image I am trying to convert is from a bitmap member.

ie.

bmp_data = flash_sprite.convert( #BitmapData, member( "some bmp" ).image )

Adding Child to AS3 Flash Sprite in Director 11.5

To add a new movie clip to a Flash sprite using ActionScript 2 I do something like this

new_clip = flash_sprite.createEmptyMovieClip( "my clip", flash_sprite.getNextHighestDepth() )

Can someone tell the the ActionScript 3 equivalent? I tried this

new_clip = flash_sprite.newObject( "flash.display.MovieClip" )

flash_sprite.addChild( new_clip )

but I get an error saying #addChild handler not found in object.

8 Bit Color Fill Wrong paletteIndex

I am having an issue with creating a mask on the fly in Director 11 on Windows.

This is an abridged version of my routine just to highlight the problem;

on Test me, v_width, v_height

myMask = image( v_width, v_height, 8, #grayscale )

myMask.fill( myMask.rect, [#shapeType: #roundRect, #color: color( 255, 255, 255 )] )

put myMask.getPixel( 100, 100 )

end Test

Basically if I make an image of 127 x 127 it sets a paletteIndex of 0 as expected, if I go over that and create an image of 128 x 128 it sets a paletteIndex of 168. It seems to only happen with the #roundRect shape. Any thoughts or suggestions? Can other people confirm this as a bug?

Director 11.5 Script Editor in OSX - Delay While Editing

I have a fairly large MX 2004 project that I am trying to update in Director 11.5 in OSX. Every time I edit a word in the script editor there is a delay of between 30 to 60 seconds where the cursor spins and Director is unresponsive. I have turned off line numbering, auto-colouring and auto-formatting so I can only assume that it is compiling the script or something as I type. It is basically unworkable to face that sort of delay for every single edit. Is there something I can do to improve the performance? I have installed the latest hot fix.

ie.

In a script member named "Test"

In another routine;

scr_obj = script( "Test" ).new()

Director 11 OSX App Crashes Unless in a Window

I have published an app in Director 11 for OSX (OSX v10.5.8) and when I run it I get an alert saying too many errors have occurred and the app is closing. The same happens if I use a stub movie and go to the movie in the main stage window. However if I use the stub to open the movie in a new window it runs fine. What could possibly cause this? Has anyone had similar problems?

MIME Encoding Shell Routine for Windows?

I have been looking at MIME encoding of attachments for emailing with the MultiUser xtra. After deciding that Lingo is just way too slow for the job I managed to find a workable shell routine in OSX using Valentin's shell xtra. You still need to format the results into the email but this handles the grunt work for the encoding nicely. It was taking over 80 seconds to encode just 500kb in Lingo and this will do it in a couple of seconds.

Anyway my question is does anyone know of an equivalent Windows native routine that is present in any default Windows installation?

So I noticed that the

do javascript <path to script file>

I have used in versions 7-CS4 causes an error now.

"General Photoshop error occurred. This functionality may not be available in this version of Photoshop."

However adding "file"

do javascript file <path to script file>

allows it to work again.

Does anyone have a copy of PS7 that they could test this with to see if this form is backwards compatible? I can confirm that it works with CS3.

VBScript object to launch 32 bit Photoshop

When running in Vista 64 bit is there a Photoshop.Application object that will launch the 32 bit version of Photoshop?

As an aside are there some notes somewhere about what might cause a javascript to error in 64 bit?
