New Installation - Download From Adobe Website or Use CD Installer? CF 8

Hi..

i need verification... I already manage to buy Coldfusion 8 and have an Installation CD included.

Since in the current situation there are many hotfixes and patches for the Coldfusion 8... if i want to install it in a new fresh server should I ?

1. Use the installer from the CD given and then download the hotfixes and manually update my app server?

2. or i just download a new Coldfusion 8 installer from Adobe website, hoping this new installer has included all the current hotfixes so i don;t have to do it manually ? is it really like i Hope or just i'm dreaming?

i'm a bit confuse about this... so please someone make me clear about this installation and hot fixes process? i don;t want to be left out for any hot fixes...

Built In Webserver or use IIS/Apache Webserver?

Hi,

Just want to ask if there are some feature that left behind if i use the

coldfusion builtin webserver to host my production site rather that using IIS or Apache webserver.

is there any pros and cons or limitation using built in webserver?

How about the security? more secure or the same?

i'm using Coldfusion 8 Enterprise and want to host my site in Red Hat Linux Enterprise 5.

Multiserver For Newbies - how to create website?

Hi...

before this i use stand alone svr coldfusion, this is the first time i install multiserver coldfusion in my server.

i already know how to create an instances ( instance name INS_STUDENT), but i'm stuck with the next step, that is configure my website from standalone to multiserver.

i have a folder name SYS_STUDENT with url is http://10.0.10.10/student in the stand alone environment.

how do i configure this folder in the multiserver?

do i have put it under WWWROOT? or in the JRUN? or under the folder JRUN/INS_STUDENT?

please guide me... maybe someone had the experience on implementing it?

CF Connet to Oracle Rac - what the official solution?

hi...

i already search the forum and google it to the web.... i have read many solution on CF connection to oracle RAC 10G.

since it is already 2010 and there are already coldfusion 8 ( i;m still using CF 7 and 8),

is there any new solution from the official Colfusion TEAM on the best way to connect to ORACLE RAC 10G.

I mean is the best and most efective way since there are some using the JDBC ( Drivers OTHERS ) then some using direct to ORACLE when creating the datasources...

like in my situation

i have 2 server ORACLE RAC

1. IP : 10.0.10.1 , SID : xdb1, port : 1125

1. IP : 10.0.10.2 , SID : xdb2, port : 1125

i have try using this in creating the Datasourse ,

Driver = ORACLE

SID Name : xdb1;AlternateServers=(10.0.10.2:1125);xdb2; ConnectionRetryCount=2;ConnectionRetryDelay=5

the solution is working, but the fail over is not so working... usually just 1 server is going to be use,

and the other server is just doing nothing...

how do i configure so i can fully maximize the 2 server capability to the maximum...

cfchart combine 3 data on single bar?

Hi guys,

i use to create chart using CFCHART, but in this case, i don't have any ideas on how to display this kind of chart.

this sample chart is generated from excel file, and i want to create the same chart using coldfusion.

the chart will combine 3 data on a single bar. if i could display just one bar with 3 different color is enough for an example...

any suggestion or example how to do this kind of chart? thank you very much...

i have a big big query in pageA.cfm ,for example

this query will return about 100,000 row.

i want to take the result in query "rsGetStudent" to page B. how do i do that?

using session?

using URL parameter?

i have a query like this

</cfquery>

my task is, i want to output the studentlist recordset to the excel template in that StudentList worksheet and write to that excel starting from row number 6.

how do i do that?

using cffile and append? i have try it and successfully if using new workbook and new sheet not updating an excel and predefined sheet.

How to Check Images File Exist? in different server

Hi,

I have 10 different coldfusion server.

for example 9 server is for the web application site - for example http://myserverone/studentweb

the other one is for images website, just for displaying student picture - for example http://myserverimage/studentpicture.
the purpose of this website is to display student picture that i store as gif files.

from my studentweb website i will call the images from studentpicture website as source for my image placeholder.
for example this is my code i'm calling form http://myserverone/studentweb website:

<img src=" http://myserverimage/studentpicture/#studentnumber#.gif" alt="" name="studentpicture" width="160" height="200">

my problem is, if there is no specific student picture in my studentpicture website, then the placeholder will display an X ( mean the images not found )

how do i prevent the X to display?
how do i using coldfusion or any kind of way to check if the images exist on that website ( different server ), so if the images is not found, i can display a default images? i can do this if i'm calling the website in the same server, but not using a different server.

this is like using other website images for your own personal website and sometimes the owner delete the images from their website, and i want to display my own images if that images been removed from the source website.

anyone have done this before?

hi guys,

how do i include a file outside my website?

for example i have 10 coldfusion webserver.
1 webserver has a website name "annoucement_only" hosting html files only.
i have a file in website annoucement_only name myannoucement.html

i can access this file from this address http://mydomain.com/annoucement_only/myannoucement.html

my problem is how i'm gonna include in my coldfusion files this files ?
i want to include the file in the middle just like i use cfinclude so if any anouuncement being update, i just update from 1 website only rather that uploading to that 10 webserver.
for this sample please ignore using table to store the annoucment.

Oracle Form VS Coldfusion - Database Oracle. Winner ?

Hi,

I'm currently using DB MSSQL Server and interface using Coldfusion 7.0 to run my web system application

we are upgrading our database to Oracle 10g.

since we're buying the whole package of oracle... that include Oracle Form ( for interface application development by oracle ), my department had a discussion on migrating the interface to oracle.

well since i don';t have the experinence on oracle form and i REALLY REALLY prefer coldfusion, is there any way that i can present my issues and prove that using coldfusion is the best way than oracle form?

please give me a suggestion on this issues?

1. is coldfusion is more better that oracle form when using oracle DB?
2. does anyone have the experience on migrating from coldfusion to oracle form? any performance issues?
3. the importtant thing? what should i tell my department on " why we should use coldfusion for interface"
4. if can, please gimme a link to articel or website that discuss these issues...

to macromedia/adobe employee please help me to clarify this thing, since we will not using any of your product anymore if i cannot convince my department on using coldfusion anymore... no coldfusion, no dreamweaver and then no macromedia studio anymore...

session variable - what is the limittation ?

hi guys,

i have this server

compaq ML570 , 3GB RAM, 2 CPU 700 Mzh , using SQL Server 2000 DB

i have a student information system, that will be access by usually 500 staf at one time or more.

i have my staf info in a table with many info regarding that staf like name, faculty, campuse, akses given and many more.

when staf login, i wanted to store that staf info in a variable so i don;t have to requery again. i'm considering to set all these variable in a session variable like this

<cfset session.staf.name = "joh">
<cfset session.staf.campus = "malaysia">
<cfset session.staf.akses= "london,malaysia,tokyo"> and many more ( about 10 more variable )

can i have your opinion if i set this variable using :

1. set all staf info in a session variable ( using 3 GB RAM ) so i don't have to requery to database until user logout.

2. create a cfc that call a store procedure for that table and set it to a variable. This process will call in an Application.cfm so each every open page will execute the query to set the staf info - everypage will requery database.

which one do you prefer?
which one is more better in performance ?
is RAM will be the issues for session variable?

or u have another suggesttion?

Performance using CFC and Stored Procedure!

hi guys,

i just want some opinion or suggestion on these thing ?

1. is there any different at the web server and database server performance if i'm calling a query using this method :

a. Using stored procedure SP_A to call a query Q_A
b. Using a CFC to call a Stored Procude SP_A that calling query Q_A

which one is better if i'm using two server, 1 Web Server and another a Database Server in a different location.
