Strobe Media Playback pre-release is here!

Strobe Media Playback is our pre-built media player based on the Open Source Media Framework that allows you to display video on your web site quickly and easily with just a few lines of code. The beta comes as a compiled SWF, which you can download and run on your web server. In a future release, we will also be including the source code as well as adding new features. It is fully configurable through HTML embed tags and supports all the same video features as OSMF, including Progressive Download, RTMP Streaming and HTTP Dynamic Streaming.

These forums are a place to ask questions, pose suggestions, and discuss topics related to working with video on the web. Over the next few days, engineers from the Strobe Media Playback development team will be posting new discussion topics. We'll be sharing more details about where we are in development, and we'll be looking to get feedback on your use of Strobe Media Playback.

In the meantime, please download and install Strobe Media Playback and let us know what you think!

We are pleased to announce the 1.0 release of Strobe Media Playback (SMP)! SMP is Adobe’s open source turnkey player built on the Open Source Media Framework (OSMF). SMP is available as both a compiled SWF and as source code, which are now available at our new Open @ Adobe project site on Sourceforge. The player SWF can be hosted as is, or the source code can be used as a starting point for developing a custom OSMF video player.

Since the SMP pre-release in May, we have been busy adding new features and trying to incorporate all your feedback. Features include:

- Support for RTMP and HTTP dynamic streaming

- Support for Flash Access 2.0

- Built in buffering algorithm based on dual buffering and dynamic buffering methods

- Full screen optimizations

- Default chrome that can be customized

- Ability to display a play button overlay, poster frame, and animated buffering indicator

- Ability to configure the player through embed parameters and/or an external XML config file

- Debug console included in the download

The Open @ Adobe site also includes a wiki for SMP. There you will find more detailed information on the features listed above. In addition, you can find the user guide here.

We are really excited about SMP, and we hope that you will continue to provide feedback. Our next major release is slated for the end of the year, and some of the features we are thinking about including are a JavaScript API for creating player controls and a YouTube plug-in that will allow the user to specify a YouTube video URL as the player source. We’d love to hear any other suggestions you might have.

Welcome to the Flash Media Playback User Forum!

We are pleased to announce the inaugural release of Flash Media Playback (FMP). FMP is Adobe’s turnkey player built on the Open Source Media Framework (OSMF). It is hosted on Adobe’s servers so that anyone who wants to embed video on their website can use it to play their video by simply referencing it in the website’s HTML. All you need is the URL for your video content and your desired dimensions for your video player window, and you can have video playing on your site in no time. You can enter in these values into the FMP configurator, press the “Preview” button, and it will generate the embed code you need to copy and paste into your webpage’s HTML.

FMP is a fully featured player. Features include:

- Support for RTMP and HTTP dynamic streaming

- Support for Flash Access 2.0

- Default chrome that can be customized

- Ability to display a play button overlay, poster frame, and animated buffering indicator

In conjunction with the upcoming OSMF 1.0 release this Friday, we will be pre-releasing Strobe Media Playback, our production-ready OSMF media player. This player will include support for HTTP Dynamic Streaming, as well as all basic playback functionality, and will be available as a compiled SWF. Check back Friday for where to download the beta.
