major performance difference - OS X vs. Windows (CC 2014)

I've built an Action-based auto-painter, using the Art History Brush Tool plus the Tool Recording option within the Actions themselves. The development work was done on an iMac machine. Recently I've also been testing the very same Actions on a Windows PC.

Even though the specs for the two machines are very similar - and both normally run Photoshop CC 2014 in a very comparble way speed wise - the auto-painting done on the Windows machine is very slow. Completing the painting of a full 3000 by 2000 pixel image takes between 8 and 35 minutes using Windows. The same image can be painted in between one and a half and three minutes using the iMac. The averaged time-to-completion is approximately ten times faster for the iMac.

The actual specifications for the machines and the software preferences set are:

iMac

3.4 GHz Intel i7 processor

16 GB RAM

conventional HDD 1 TB

ATI Technologies AMD Radeon HD6970M 2048 MB

OS X 10.9.4

Photoshop CC 2014

- set to 75% available RAM

- set to 20 History states

- set to 6 cache levels, tile size 1024 kB

no other primary application open

Windows PC

3.3 GHz Intel i5 processor

16 GB RAM

SSD Intel 120 GB

AMD Radeon HD 6950 1024 MB

Windows 7 Pro (SP1)

Photoshop CC 2014

- set to 75% available RAM

- set to 20 History states

- set to 6 cache levels, tile size 1024 kB

no other primary application open

Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be causing the performance difference?

hi,

Are the images required for the new add-ons site of the same size and formats as previously applied to the Extensions Exchange? If not, can the (neat) original Adobe Exchange Assets template (Photoshop file) be updated? And, how about animated gifs?

hi,

I found this new release on the new Adobe Add-ons site today. It can be auto-installed now in Photoshop CC (but with a small glitch).
However, it seems we are still stuck with the old version documentation: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/tutorialbuilder/tutorial_builder_installation.pdf - which goes back to v.1.0.1 … Is there any hope of getting something newer? Or, perchance, is Adobe looking for a volunteer …?

the External Panel Loader Widget - how?

hi,

I have one Extension now approved and available in the Exchange (for Photoshop). https://www.adobeexchange.com/store/products/525 Would like to use it, as a starting point, within another one. But cannot get the External Panel Loader to work.

My assumption was that this would only work if the first one was already installed and available. But, the User Manual says: "Specify the path or URL of the sub-panl in the Location (URL) attribute". Is it expected the the primary Extension panel will go looking for the sub-panel as a .zxp file ....? Would appreciate it if anyone could provide some more detailed information on this.

is AdobePopUpHTML Flash-compatible?

hi,

I am trying to use the HTML Widget in Configurator (3.1.1) to load a website. I get a message saying that a newer installation of Adobe Flash Player is required. The Player itself is fully up-to-date. So, as a test, I modified the HTML in the widget to load Adobe's own Flash Player web page.

The two screenshots here are the result - they indicate a problem. Does anyone know whether or how the HTML Widget will handle a website with Flash-based content?

the HTML Sample Panel (and PSCS6)

I'm hoping someone from Adobe can take a look at this post.

There are two sample Photoshop Extensions available directly from Configurator 3.1.1 (see the File menu).

One operates properly for me (in 64 bit CS6) - it is shown below:

As is shown there, I tried to simply reproduce the HTML widget which is described in the Panel (I renamed my panel to be Test Panel), exported it as a CS Extension, and it does not function correctly. (It seems to me that it would have been best to have included an actual .gpc format file in the Adobe download here ...)

I also tried to reproduce one of the other example cases included - Open Image from URL. This is shown below:

In this case there should be script files in the HTML/utils folder, but they are not there.

Then there is a second sample Extension which can be downloaded - PSCS6. It can be installed from Extension Manager:

but it does not show up in the Window > Extensions menu:

Any insights or help would be appreciated.

I don't believe getting and using Confiurator 3 requires any payment of anything. But what is the key to success with either registering for the Exchange or pursuing the benefits of a paid subscription there?

delete Photoshop CS6 beta

I just subscribed to Creative Cloud. The Adobe Application Manager (for Mac) refuses to download Photoshop CS6 because it finds a beta version of that application on the machine. This was originally so. But I have uninsalled and deleted that. How to get the application downloaded and installed?

code signing certification

It's a mystery to me exactly what's required here. There are companies in the listing provider in the documentation for the Exchange (https://www.adobeexchange.com/resources) which provide certificates for Adobe AIR software:

and there are others that do the same thing but are not listed:

http://www.digicert.com/code-signing/adobe-air.htm

Does anyone have any guidance on whether the certifcates provided by these companies are exactly what is needed for Configurator? Will such a certification be in the "p12" format?

(It might be quite expensive to make a mistake here!)

conditional removal of a specific Action Set

hi everyone,

I have created a CS6 Extension Panel which incorporates specific Actions. There is no problem with first loading the Actions that the Extension calls. Configurator makes is easy to do that, in an initialization step. But I have found that when I reopen Photoshop and restart the Panel, those same Actions are reloaded again. And this duplication can happen multiple times.

Is there script I can add so as to unload the Action Sets, conditionally, if they are present, so as to start out each time with a clean one-time load?

not all "reverse" actions can be scripted?

hi,

A new newbie question of the day. Is it the case that ScriptListener will log specific individual tasks performed in Photoshop, but not their reverse? For example, I can see a logging of opening an image and using it to create a Pattern (via the Edit menu item for that). No problem. But when I want to choose that Pattern for another task or I want to delete it, that is not captured in the log ... what gives?

Any feedback appreciated.

A newbie question - the documentation for Scripting in PSCS6 seems to be incorrect. There is in my PSCS6 installation (Windows, 64-bit) no \Scripting\Utilities folder as the document specifies. And there is no Plug-Ins/Automate folder either - in which to put the ScriptListener plug-in I have just downloaded as an alternative. So, what exactly is the procedure for getting it to work please?

I'd like to be able to construct some Actions which use third-party Plug-ins - can anyone point me to a tutorial on this? Is it even generally possible ....? The simpler the construction scheme the better. I'm working with CS5. Thanks for any assistance.
