what am i doing wrong with data source?

Sorry, I've looked around to try to find the answer to this and I haven't been able to.

I have two web apps. One, "Locations," holds a list of addresses for several stores, with tags like {location_street_address}, {location_phone_number}. Another web app, "StoreGallery", holds items to be showcased at these stores, and in it i've defined Locations as a data source field. So that for each item, they can associate an item with a specific store.

So in the detail template for StoreGallery I added one of the tags from Locations, thinking that by having defined the data source, the tags from one would work in the other, but they don't. I was only able to find tutorials on how to create the data source field but not on how to actually apply them in templates.

I need to be able to flag whether a user is logged in, but specifically just as a wholesaler, so I can change prices on the page. The only thing i've ben able to find though is the module which says whether you're logged in or not.

second-based discount, expiry time and javascript countdown

So I have a client who wants to put occasional discounts on their stock, with a javascript countdown on the site so the discount is valid while the timer is running. This means having the discount run down at a pretedermined time to the second and also that the timer not be ridiculously exploitable.

Is it possible to set a discount to expire to the second, because from what I can see the option for setting discount expiry and release only works to the date and not also to a time.
- What exactly does the expiry time indicate, midnight at the datacenter?
Is there a server time tag I can have access to? I'm worried about users messing with their system clock and extending the discount time.

setting a default "no results found" for google map

A client is running the google maps search by proximity module. This works fine, except some selections don't generate a map, resulting in an empty div where the map should be (but isn't because there aren't any results.) So the client wanted to add "no results found" into the empty layer, which is easy enough with javascript. Except that now when there is a map, the js detects that that div is empty (because the map is added by javascript), and adds "no results found" until the map overwrites it.

And then I thought about maybe doing a callback on the google maps code except it doesn't even appear when there's no result.

So my question is, how can I set a textual default for the map layer when this happens?

This is my problem -- i'm taking an rss feed from another site (with permission) and parsing it for html. Now part of this rss feed is, itself, html, and part of this html is separated by line breaks -- not like " " but " ". I need to break this into an array and just take the first two lines.

I only have access to the file manager for the BC site i'm writing this code for, and I need to be able to take ttat string and split by " ". Which in any other platform or web-based console in the universe would be a non-issue... just use "string.split(" ") ... except BC's inline editor changes the line break into " ".

Even though this is in an external .js file, and not an html file, and even though " " is still valid html in any case which will render without issue in every browser in existence, it's especially out of bounds here where it's in the context of a string in code and not markup. This is not the first time i've run into BC's editor deciding there's really no difference between html and javascript. I could almost understand it if this were inline javascript but it isn't, and even then, the editor should be able to tell that the stuff between the script tags should be treated differently than the stuff outside.

Is there a way I can turn syntax 'validation' off for javascript files? If there is, this would be so much easier than having to hack around this by converting the string to hex or something like that.

managing/backing up with git

Would I be able to setup my site as a remote repository with git as a way to backup/update the templates and scripts and is there a way I can hide the actual .git file from public view?

I know there's no way to really run a local version of a site except with webbasics because I can't backup the database but I could at least do everything else.

forum css

My site's background style is dark, not white. I've been able to change the colors for everything else in the forum module to match this, except for the forum editor (which has the post form), which appears in an iframe and has the white background color added inline to the body. Where can I change the css for this? It doesn't appear to be in the module stylesheets css file that i could find.

weird cart issue

A client of mine has this problem -- customers adding items to their shopping cart (removing the stock) but then apparently leaving their browsers open, but not paying and not refreshing the page, leaving the items as out of stock even after the cart lifetime (set to 1 hour.) The result is that this shows an inaccurate picture of what's available and what isn't in the admin panel.

I'm not that familiar with the e-commerce modules or this particular issue so the only thing I could suggest was maybe sending an ajax request with caching turned off to re-get the page again on unload might work (since refreshing the page after an hour does have the desired effect) and maybe some kind of annoying alert. Has anyone else had issues like this and are there recommendations for solutions?

setting cookie domain

I need to set a cookie for the selected index of a webform, so it can carry across multiple posts and keep the state (in other words if they select option1, and submit, then option1 is still selected on the form again, etc.)

I've been checking it on the client site with greasemonkey and it works fine, but it doesn't work on the server. I figured the problem was the domain but I don't seem to be able to set the domain to match properly. What am I doing wrong here?

I built a login form for the forum into the dynamic menu for my site, so that when you select 'forum' from the menu, you can log in directly.

What I would like to do is be able to tell when they're logged in already and, if so, have that submenu show a topics list or something (currently it still shows the login even after they're already logged in.) Is there a way to get a forum logged in status that I can add to a template to do this? The only other idea I have would be to call the forum page by ajax and parse the html (which would be different for logged in users as not) but that would be ugly.

The editor for one of the sites i'm building has the options for building web apps, crm, email, everything -- all well and good. But for another site, there are only options for site manager, reports, site settings. They're both free sites so they should have the same options. I don't understand what's going on here.

The site I'm currently building will need to be transferred to the control of another Adobe accountholder.

Is there a better solution for this than dumping everything into the new account by FTP? In particular, I'm concerned about the webapps, since the modules have an id in them, and that those ids might need to be manually changed in the code?

can't log into partner portal

Every attempt i've made to log in to the Partner Portal has met with an error, and i've had to manually delete the modal window just to get to it. After that, everything seems to work.

I don't have a web design company. I'm a freelancer. And since the option exists (apparently) to change whatever fictitious name I come up with later, I don't know why 1) it even has to be there and 2) it never seems to work.

Where do I get rid of that js alert that says 'item successfully added' or something after posting to a forum? It's obtrusive and forces an unnecessary extra click for the user.

Also I just discovered it's entirely possible to register with a bogus email account (i did so with something along the lines of 'alskdja@'.) Since email is a required field, I think at the very least the email filter should make sure the address is valid.

I will go ahead and report this as a bug -- if I set a link as an optional field in a webapp, and a link isn't provided, the system renders the link html with no url (<a href="http://"></a>) where the expected behavior if no link is provided would be not to generate html at all, rather than invalid markup.

I have a number of fields in a webapp ('website','image','email') which are optional fields. When displaying data from this app I only want to display the html container divs and spans around elements for which data exists, and omit them if it doesn't. Currently if, for instance, the website isn't submitted, it renders the link container div with a blank link element inside it - which is even worse than what I was expecting (nothing inside the containers.)

So is there any workflow for this in business catalyst? In another templating engine you might just test the data and use an if statement but I am new to this cms and if there's an option for logic in the editor I haven't found it.
