Font turning bold upon preview/publish...

I am using Helvetica Neue 24 Thin for the text. It is hardly a heavy-wrought font but when I preview and publish it comes out looking bold:

As you can see - given the settings shown for that text, not sure why that font is displaying like it is. I did just upgrade to 8.0.1 (Mac) today if that helps. Never noticed this happening before?

Independent Video Navigation

I've inserted an .mp4 file into my Cp7 (Mac) course and it looks great. I've had it set up to where it progressively downloads and streams over the length of one slide (not several slides). I want there to be a separate play bar for the video so that it doesn't affect the timeline of the course. Is this possible?

Everytime I pull the video onto the canvas it comes in with no nav options and the length of the video coincides with the main timeline.

Cannot crop an image...

I've been using Fireworks for years, I've been stubbornly refusing to migrate to Photoshop. But today it's acting up on me after working just fine the other day. I went to open up multiple images and crop them but instead of actually cropping the area, instead it just moves the selected area around or off the canvas. As you can see from the screenshot, I have the export tool selected, but the crop selected bitmap option is greyed out, while the selection tool is clearly visible on the image.

What is going on here? This is the latest version of Fireworks available (CS6, Version 12). I have closed/reopened the image. I have closed reopened Fw. I have rebooted my machine. No dice. Any advice you can give would be GREATLY appreciated.

Can the Tablet dimensions be set as same as Primary in Responsive View?

My dimensions I want to establish for Primary, as well as tablet, will be 1024 X 720. When I try to set these same measurements (1024X720) for the tablet view of CP8, it will not allow me to do so. It will always only show dimensions smaller. How is this not a problem when I export?

I know you're next question: "Why are you using responsive design if the primary and tablet dimensions will be the same?". Well - the powers that be have not ruled out future publishing to Android tablets or even iPhones. So I'd like to be able to keep all the formats in one file, see what I'm saying? This may just be a case where that isn't possible, is it?

Buttons not functioning in Cp8 preview mode

I've created a .cptx file and when I go to preview it, a white screen appears and "pauses". It's nothing I placed on my project.

Then once I hit the play button again, the project commences - but none of my buttons work. None of them.

Here's the clincher. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what I was doing wrong and then I turned to a contractor that just joined our shop and whom is a certified Cp 5,6, and 7 trainer. She looked at it and she couldn't see where I had done anything wrong and said that it should work. So I sent her the file and she opened it up on her machine and ...

...it works like a dream. She just opened it up, not even touching it. We are both using the version of Cp8 and both using Macs and Mavericks.

Could there be something on my settings that could have messed with this?

Editing X,Y Coordinates of an Animation

...but in order to do so, I need access to the XML file. I published the file (SCORM) and opened it and can't see any .xml file containing the material indicated. What would the name of the file be called? Am I using the correct Cp8 process?

Position Properties Option not displaying

When I was using the Windows version of Cp8, I never had a problem in opening the "Position Properties" option in the Windows panel, neither did my friends using their Macs. I just got a brand-spanking-new MacBook yesterday and that option is not being shown. It's not even greyed out. I've closed down and reopened Captivate, no luck. I thought, OK, maybe it was a borked file. So I closed that file and started a brand-new course with a default "blank" theme and still, no luck. Anybody else ever have this problem?

save .cptx as theme

Just a shot in the dark, but is it possible to convert a .cptx as a theme? I know you could do that with templates (replacing .cptx to .cptl). Can the same be true with themes? Converting them to .cptm or exporting them easily?

Quiz Master Slides in Responsive Design Courses?

Is it possible to create Quiz Master Slides in Responsive Design sites? If I am in the Master Slide Panel and then go to the main menu and select: Quiz > Quiz Master Slide > Matching Question - I just keep as the default look and feel. This way I know it should work. I then see the slide showing up in the Master Slide pane.

When I go to create a page based on that Master Slide, that Master Slide isn't listed (although I see it in the actual master slide panel itself). Not sure what the problem is. I had spent a lot of time formatting several other quiz master slides this was as well (as seen in the red box). This course is meant to be made so that the user can access via laptop or iPad and thus the need for a responsive design format.

Setting Custom Backgrounds in Responsive Design

I am attempting to take a .jpg background from the primary view and have it convert proportionately into tablet view (see corresponding images attached below). As you can see, the primary image shows great, however with the tablet view, the background extends well past the far-right margin. I can see what is happening in that the settings for the tablet are showing as [100% height, Auto Width], so that essentially is saying the background image dimensions shouldn't change, thus extending past the margin.

But if I try to change it to say, [768 px width and 627 height], then the background image is disproportionately skewed. How can I work around this? Ideally, yes - I probably shouldn't use a photo background, but am trying to stay 100% true to earlier designs of courses created so it's a smooth transition. If I left the settings "as is", would this still work? I mean, it would just cut off the display, right? It's not like it would hurt anything - or is it just not that simple.

Absolute Positioning in Responsive Design

I am attempting to place an object on specific X,Y coordinates however Cp8 is not allowing me to do so. This screen is for the Primary view and as you can see, the blue image is highlited (it is a .png file). This same issue happens no matter what the image is within the project. Deleting a Caption Style that Just Won't Go Away...

I have created numerous custom caption styles and am using it no problem within my course. I have been able to delete other captions in the past without any issues however there seems to be a "ghosting" of some styles still on my course:

Everything above the transparent textbox style are styles which I have deleted from the Captivate 7 > Gallery > Captions directory (both the .bmp and .fcm files). I have removed those styles from all of my captions within the course slides (and edited the Object Style Editor accordingly). I have closed Captivate, and gone into the Captivate 7 > utils folder and used the CleanPreferencesMac file to clear out any files which may still be in my cache. Not sure what else I need to do here?

Jagged border on vector graphic

I am attempting to have a vector graphic span across two colors. On the left is dark blue and on the right is white. Here is a section:

Notice how the section of the image that touches on the blue doesn't exactly look clean? Just to be clear - this is a vector.png on top of a transparent background. So not sure what the issue is here. Using Fw CS6.

silhouette masking effect?

How do I go about splitting 1/2 of the graphic whereby one part is one color and the other 1/2 is a totally different color? Can I make it so that the image is not perfectly divided in 1/2 by color? Maybe divided diagonally by color?

For example. In the image above, I want the right half of the @ to be the color blue on the left side of the canvas. I would imagine this is done via masking?

Yes, I have Captivate 7 and realize that there is the Accordion Interaction available; however when I attempt to fit it on my screen (1024X610) - it is just illegible due to the small font as I shrink it proportionately and it gets distorted. Here is something that I had created:

...using tools from within Captivate and grouping elements from each section together. At first I thought to myself - "No problem, I will just click on a section and it'll just move the previously active section out of the way. Obviously I wasn't thinking that through because each section of text (in the grey box) may be longer than the next. How could I move them up and down without obstructing the view of the others? I'll have to do something involving changing the "y-coordinates" of each section grouping, am I right? If so, not sure how to go about that.

I thought the user would click on the colored band to get to the section, then click on the "X" (which are currently buttons) to close it. Make sense? Would really appreciate your input on this.

Apply Universal Shadow

I would like to allow my developers to apply a universal setting for a custom dropshadow for their object, or perhaps add a style to a dropdown like there is for text. Is this possible?
I know for captions this is very simple - edit in Object Style Editor.

I'm not thinking this is possible - just wanted to confirm. Thanks!

Needing rest of my custom caption to be transparent

I created 5 simple .bmps to be custom captions. They have a white background, however I placed a single yellow pixel in the top-left corner of each so that it would render anything outside of the caption that was white transparent, but inside of the caption that was white, - white.

I have read that by placing a color that would not be used in the course on the caption, and by placing it in the top-left corner, Captivate would do this. The captions are having the white background (which is great), but still showing the rest of the images background to show the full rectangle. I'm almost there - but not quite what I was going for.

Not sure what I am doing wrong here. I have tried inserting a 1px stroke around entire image, and this is what I got. It shows the image, but also the entire stroke.

When I insert just a white background without the odd-color pixel, the following is seen:

Hitting Back Button Changes Total

I've created an advanced action involving the following:

If I enter in the values in the respective TEBs (bob_cost1 thru bob_cost5), and then click on the next button - It gives me exactly the value I am looking for. Everything is great. But if the student wanted to go back and see what that value were again on the previous page, that value doubles. If they go forward and then back to the page yet again - the process repeats.

Am I missing something?

Expressions across Slides

Hey there -

I could use somebody's help. I have 4 slides. On Slide A I have:

Several textboxes (assigned a specific variable) numbered 1 thru 5
User enters in a "grocery list" of items (which I have no waying of knowing beforehand to assign a value to)
Across from the grocery item is a guesstimate of the cost of that item

This same process is set up for Slide B.

On Slide C I want to be able to show all of the items from their shopping list on Slides A and B, as well as a grand total for both.

I am using Cp 7. Thanks to Lieve's help before, I know how to create a total of items on one page, but now a request has been done using scenario above. Is this doable?

Getting Accessiblity Error Message before Recording Software Simulation...

In Captivate 7, I go to start a brand new software simulation (chrome screen) in OSX and I get the following error message:

Before recording application applications, select 'Enable Access for Assistive devices' in 'System Preferences' > 'Accessibility'.

The pics below show the red screen capture box and the error I get when I try to capture when trying to capture the screen. Also included is a pic showing accessibility is enabled.

I have no idea where this is coming from.

Closed Caption Timeline filled with keyframes

I'm trying to add my markers for the timing of the video and these keyframes automatically appear as soon as I open up the video to edit the timing on it. I haven't even started to add in the closed caption text and they're already there. I've seen tutorials on how to add in the markers and I don't see any keyframes - just markers added by the user. Why are they there and can I (should I) get rid of them? I'm using Captivate 7 on a Mac.

Adding Three Variables using Standard Action?

I'm attempting to create an expression using a standard action. However I'm finding that it will only allow me to enter two variables (NOT 3) for the total. (total 1) + (total 2) = data_targetmonthly (as shown below). I need the expression to be: (total 1) + (total 2) + (total 3) x 1.3 = data_targetmonthly.

Please see attached. Should I be using an equation at this point instead?

Closed Captioning Repositioning

Short of a paid widget - is there a way to reposition placement of where CC is located? Right now it is on top of where I have branding for a client template. I'd love to just have it moved up like 50px. I don't see anything in CC Project Settings showing any x or y alignment options. Nor do I see anything in the Style Manager or Skin Editor.

Table Interaction cutting off Material

Using Cp7 for the Mac, I have attempted to use the table interaction. Directly above the settings, within the same screenshot - you can see my initial results. It seems to only show the header row followed by the first four rows of data - totally ommitting the final row. By the way - not sure I understand the folder for the red arrow. Is that if I import a powerpoint table? I tried to import an .xls file but it wouldn't accept it.

When I go to resize the table it did create, I still cannot see the final row.

Video Closed Captioning and Independent Control Bar

When I insert a video onto the canvas of Cp7 (7.0.1.237 on Mac) as a multi-slide progressive video, it won't have a control bar. When I import it as a video event - there will be a control bar. Now - with a progressive video, I can't seem to figure out how to insert closed captioning. What am I doing wrong?

Unable to Group Elements in Cp7

I'm attempting to group a selection of text boxes together in preparation for building a shared action and Captivate is not allowing me to do so. It is letting me group the Smart Shapes no problem (serving as buttons). What am I doing wrong here?

How can I change color palette options?

Whenever I attempt to select a color for the text, or shape - the bottom row of colors seems to choose the last colors I have used. Is there a way to add a custom palette within Cp7 (Mac) so that I can always just select my brand colors if I choose to? I know how to use the Object Style Manger - which is very handy. But maybe I don't want to create something as a style, just as a one-time only item. The picture below shows the line of colors that had been used recently. I'd like to add to that a line of colors of my own choosing similar to that found in Fireworks in the palette, and I could add/delete accordingly. I'm sure Photoshop has a similar function. Maybe add the "brand colors" and have recently used colors just appended to them?

How can I tweak the TOC to only have access to eligible modules?

Thanks to lilybiri's reusable actions template I was able to create my own branded template awhile back and it works great. It shows when a module has been completed by highlighting a button on my menu. All the modules they haven't been started yet are greyed out, and the user cannot access the final summary module until they have completed all of the other modules beforehand (in whatever order I want them to).

Is there a way to do this in a similar manner for the existing TOC built within Cp7? That is to say - the final module will be unable to be started from the TOC until the others have been completed? So for example - what if in the first scenario there were 5 modules plus the summary. Where would I start looking to build something like that? FYI - this will eventually be put in an LMS and scored and the TOC will be an overlay.

Continuation of numbered list...

In trying to create a numbered list, I get past the first 2 items and then when entering the 3rd line it starts at #1 again. I'm not doing a soft return (SHIFT+ENTER) but a standard return - so it should be continuing with the bulleted items. I looked for a "start list with this number" option figuring I could just continue this "new" list to make it appear as one - but no such feature apparently exists in Cp7 (Mac). Is this true - I thought for sure that this was in Cp5.

Multi-Click Interaction with Hidden Objects

Trying to create a multiple click interaction whereby one element closes when another opens. Best way I could describe would be like the following. If you had a map of the globe, and wanted to put a caption on each whereby the user could click on each country and the name of that nation would appear. Then, when they clicked on another country - the first caption would disappear and the new caption would show.

I know how to make the initial one show - that's no problem. Essentially I have the a transparent button over the US and labeled the button as btn_US and labeled the caption as text_united states and make sure I have the text disabled upon initial view. I have my button "show" text_US. My issue is with getting the others to disappear. Rollovers won't work as I'm wanting them to click and I feel there is more control for the user. Also, if I were to use a shape - it's easier for me to contour the outlines of said countries than a standard square in boxed button.

Placing a Grouped Object in Library

Is there a way to place a grouped object in the Library? For example, I have a smart object (0% opacity with 0 border) placed over a custom button grouped together. This grouped item will not always be placed in the same location, so it's not like I can just place them on a template slide. I realize I could just copy and paste from another page, but for a cleaner solution, I would like to just be able to pull it right from the asset library. Is this possible? I am using Cp7.

Listing of Conditional Actions

Is there a way in Captivate 5 where you can specifically list all of the Conditional Actions? For example - I know that if I go to create my actions, I can see them very clearly in the list of standard actions - with no delineation as to whether they are standard/conditional. The same is true if I go to the dropdown for Conditional Actions.It's only when you click on the action that the Action Type is revealed.

The Advanced Interaction Window doesn't seem to indicate what actions are standard or conditional either. Is this feature available in Cp5? Is this something available in latter versions of Captivate? Is there a workaround? Right now, the only way I'm seeing is to create a naming scheme easily identifying it as a standard or conditional action (e.g. - sa_gotosummary, ca_gotosummary).

Shifting Capture Area in Cp 5 (manual panning)

I am creating a manual panning of a demonstration with dimensions of 920X535. Even when recording at 1024X768 resolution on my high res monitors, I'm still not able to get everything I want on-screen. So I go to shift the red-capture window up-down, left-right but as you can imagine, this leaves capture trails during the simulations (you can see where I was moving the red capture box).

I swear I can remember awhile back whereby I could move the capture window in increments of 10px by holding down Shift+ Arrow UP/Down/Left/Right accordingly, and that did the trick - leaving no traces of movement. But that doesn't seem to be working. Am I mistaken in this?

Manual panning seems to be working the best for me as I don't want to be jumping all over the page - just a focused area.

Guide Color Preference in Fw 4

I want to change the color of my guide to red. So I go into Edit > Preferences, then select the "Guides and Grids" option. From There I select the same color as the Slice guides "ffa4a" and click "OK".
Now here's the rub. Everytime I go into a new file, it loses that preference. Every. Single. Time. I'm going insane.

Any ideas? Please don't tell me this is the default files causing the issue in the Application Data folder. I do not have access to that folder here at work (I have CS6 at home and have always been a big fan of the tool).

Can't find my arrowheads that I had configured for the Line tool

Yes, I know where the options to select the arrowheads are (ex: start/end, concavity...etc). But when I create my line, none of the arrowheads are displayed. Not sure what the problem is? Is there an option I may have inadvertently selected which may have turned these off? I am using in Windows Photoshop 5.5. I've used them on this desktop before, again - not sure what's going on here.

Also, is there an option to add arrowheads automagically to the Pen tool in photoshop?

Captivate 4 Navigation Issue

I have 7 tabs across the top of my page, linking to several corresponding modules within my course. The learner is to go through the course sequentially, but still be able to review the sections they have completed.

For example, while in section 4, they should be able to, at any time within said section, be able to go to section 2 no problem, via the section 2 tab at the top. Only the sections they have completed will have a tab shown at the top of the page (to prevent them from jumping ahead in the course).

But here is the rub, using the example above, if I allow them to navigate to any one of the previous sections (let's say, Section 2), it loses their place in the course, and the navigation tab for sections 3 and 4 will not appear at the top of the course (only sections 1 and 2). The tabs are simply Click Boxes with "jump to slide" actions on them. So if they go to Section 2, they have to go through Sections 2 and 3, before they finally get to Section 4. It will only get worse the deeper they get through the course. So while it is great they get to review an earlier section, it would be a pain in the arse to have to get back to where they were.

I don't need to go to the exact page where they left off, just the beginning of the chapter would be great.

Can I do this with variables? Would this be a rdCmnd? If so, can someone walk me thru it or point me to a tutorial?

cpComndShowPlaybar Causing Timing Issues

This is driving me batty... Please picture in your mind 3 slides within Cp 5.5 for PC.

Slide 1 is a standard text slide with invisible captions and graphics.
Slide 2 is a Knowledge Object (True/False question which is not tracked)
Slide 3 is just a splash transition title screen into the next chapter with a huge graphic taking up the entire page.

Not sure what the problem is, but I have noticed that even though I have made the splash transition screens only 4 seconds long on the timeline, it is lasting as long as 15 seconds. Actually, I think I do know what the problem is.

An Advanced Action command is used to turn off the control bar on the quiz screens on Slide 2:

On Enter: Assign
Assign: cpCmndShowPlaybar

With: 1

On Exit: Go to the Next Slide

...and an Advanced Action command is used to turn the control bar back on on the splash screen on Slide 3:

On Enter: Assign

Assign: cpCmndShowPlaybar

With: 0

On Exit: Go to the Next Slide

I believe this is causing the problem, because on an earlier Splash page (which doesn't have a Quiz page before it) - has no problem in a delay of 15 seconds and no need to remove the control bar. It just lasts the 4.5 seconds as indicated on the timeline, and that's it.

Is there any way to prevent this delay from happening?

Moving the Recording Area within Captivate 5.5

I can be a little "OCD" when it comes to recording in Captivate (5.5) so I was wondering. If I remember correctly, one could move the recording area manuallly using the arrow keys on your keyboard in earlier versions on Captivate, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to do that now?

I don't want the screen to be jumping all over the place while I pan across the screen, and by being able to control the horizontal and vertical axis, so much the better. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Panning left-to-right on screen in Windows Captivate 5.5

I'm trying to get things moving a little smoother within Captivate and while I know how to cut a piece perfectly within Adobe Fireworks and import within Cp, not sure how to import those 2 images from the Cp library onto the screen as a seemless image onto one slide (example images below):

Typically I reset my monitor at 775 X 575 to accomodate the 800 X 600 popup window of the LMS within the company and import the backgrounds manually for greater control and clarity (no fuzziness). Then I go in and insert the mouse movements accordingly.

Do I just have the image roll off the slide like in Flash and then have it go onto the stage when it is time?

Trying to create .doc Transcript from Audio File using Audition CS5.5 or Captivate CS5.5

I have a huge audiofile that I need to import into a captivate screencapture, and also want to include text as slidenotes for closed captioning and for a storyboard export. Is there an easy way to do this using Audition CS5.5 (v 4.0 of Audition) or Captivate v5.5?

Many thanks. Only other option I know of would be to do a manual transcription and I really would rather not do that.

Aligning an image within Text

Is there a way to wrap an image within a Text Box? For example, in standard html I would just align an image to the "right" or "left" and insert padding accordingly. The text would then just wrap around and under. Is there an equivelent action in Captivate 5.0?

I've been just putting text boxes on the page and leaving room and saving space outside of the text box for the image, then put another text box underneath it to make it appear as if it is "wrapping"?

If not - any idea when this functionality will be appearing? Perhaps in 6.0?

Could use some help with a Collapsible Vertical Menu

I am looking to build a menu in Flash CS4 (AS2 or AS3) whereby there are 6 sections and some have subsections (example below). When I click on some of those sections, it opens and closes like an accordion to reveal it's inner chapters and when I click another section that first section closes and the new chapter opens.

Basically only one area opens at any one given time. Can anyone point me to a tutorial on this? I did find this tutorial:

But to be honest, while I was able to figure out how to change the text on the buttons and how to delete any extraneous buttons I didn't need, I didn't understand how to change it from connecting from external links to internal .swfs and also some of the code was in italian.

Any help someone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Placing Images in Illustrator CS4 causes them to appear 1/3 size

Whenever I try and place an image (whether it be simply placing an image or opening one) within Illustrator CS4 for Windows - for whatever reason, the images appear at about 1/3 the size they should be.

I go to View > Actual Size and it shows that the image is at 100% but it's obvious the images are nowhere near 100% (see attached ai.cs4.jpg). What could be causing this? I open up the same images (I know this because I am pulling from my desktop so I know I am pulling the same files to avoid confusion) in Fireworks CS4 and it pulls open correctly the right size, the same time - every time (see attached fw.cs4.jpg).

I'm really trying to come to grips with Illustrator, but this simple task is driving me nuts.

Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated -

Can I wrap a flattened .png? Can I attach it to a path in CS4?

I have a cylindrical graphic (.jpg) and I need to have another graphic (a flattened .png) wrap around the cylinder. How can I do this? I've searched and found how to wrap text around a path but that of course is not the case here. How can this be done?

I see the scale tool (which keeps everything proportional and doesn't distort) - and the "skew" tool which doesn't seem to produce the effect I'm looking for. It isn't pushing the graphic "down from the top" which I believe would provide the wrapping effect.

Is it possible to put a flattened graphic (such as this .png) on a path, such as you would to provide this effect with text?

Image Preview > Export automatically creates new "images" folder?

Whenever I create an image within Fireworks CS4, I do so by following this procedure:

Image Preview > Export (and then select either .jpg or .gif).

If I want to place the image (to be named filename.jpg) within the following local directory:
My Documents/Projects/acme/images/

...it will instead place it here:

My Documents/Projects/acme/images/images/filename.jpg

Why does it add an additional images folder?

Creating scrolling website in Flash Pro CS4

I am trying to create the mechanics for a flash-based site. But what happens is the menu buttons, rather than going directly past the other pages of the "site" and jumping to specific point, it scrolls past the other sections as well and THEN stops at the point you want it to.

So for example if you look in the sample .fla, if you are in section 1(satellite) and press the section 4 (employee) button, the window should scroll past (and be visible to the viewer) - screen 2 (painting), then screen 3 (oil drum) - and THEN stop on screen 4. Then if I'm on Screen 4, and pressed the Screen 2 button, Screen 3 should whiz by the screen, and THEN stop on Screen 2. Make sense?

How would this work?

List Issues in Firefox and Safari

Hello. I have a website I'm trying to work on whereby I have vertical menu in the sidebar on the left-hand side of the page. I've created it using the attached code.

I have that code enclosed within a div entitled simply "menu". Now - I also want to be able to insert bullets into my main content of the page (outside of the #menu div). But when I try to of course create bullets within the text, it applies the styling that I have on the menu. The main text is within a div called "contentMain".

I've attempted to bypass by putting in the contentMain and contentMain ul li css attached.

But the bullets refuse to line up correctly in any browser. Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated. I'm pulling my hair out here.

Applying commands to Flash CS4 element

I know in tools like Photoshop and Fireworks CS4 you can save commands (ex: series of filters) to an element and then always have it available in the future so you don't have to go through the whole process for each element you want to style the same way. For example, I create a rectangular item and then apply shadow, alignment, bevel, etc...?

Does Flash CS4 have this same type of functionality? I need to change the publish settings for dozens of .fla files and would just as soon as not have to go through the entire process again if I can just apply a command to the .fla instead. Know what I mean?
