the parallax example on edge docs web site, despite saying it works on mobile, doesn't. Is it just the way it has been placed within the browser window, i.e. if I create an full screen version for iPhone will it work. Just don't want to create something that is never going to work! Cheers Alistair

App Builder error with app icons

all the icon names are unique, I've always named then 29x29.png 512x512.png etc

Hi guys, been out of the DPS loop for a few months so just wanted to check min requirements. I see Apple now require apps to be submitted using xcode5 (from feb1) so does that mean v29 is the min or is v28 still OK?

it's a nice idea that the site "grows" when I bring new assists into the design, but irritating whan I want to add some graphics and everything else gets pushed down when I dont want it to, thought I could just lock the "background" image but that doesnt work. what am I doing wrong? Am I the first or last to hear about this very interesting news? Below is confirmation from a reseller about a new way to get a single app distributed through the Enterprise solution. Not seen this on the forum so far! "Yes, there is a new licence available, which is the ‘Agency Enterprise licence’ and is priced at £6,906. This is limited to a single app for a single client. It is valid for 12 months, and includes 5,000 .folio fulfilment tokens. It is full Enterprise functionality for the one app, so yes, you would be able to deliver your app outside of the App Store."

system tells me quicktime not installed when trying to update to CC

long page bounce disables scrolling text

I've created a long vertical page, and near tthe top of the page I have scrolling text. Quite often if a user drags the main page down, and they get the page bounce from the top, and then try to scroll the text, the scroll is disabled and the whole page continues bounce. Tapping on another MSO often unlocks the the full page bounce, so the user can then swipe the text to scroll again. A lot of times users never make the page "bounce"

and then others do, and their experience is very poor. I there any work around?

So to describe another way, if a user swipes the full page to reveal the bottom of the long page, then swipes back up to the top of the page again, the scrolling text is inactive. Tapping the page once so the folio navigation pops up, and then again to dismiss the navigation, clears the full page swipe action and the users can then swipe the text again. Trying to explain that procedure to a user would be very difficult,

Any Thoughts?

It's amazing to think I have been working with DPS since the early days of the Pre-release software, and now about to hit my 2 year anniversary of my Pro licence. I won't renew the pro licence this year, not because of the cost or any negative reason, it's just that I'm not a magazine publisher, and I have the single edition via Creative Cloud. So everything that I create for myself and others, can be done with single edition.

But ideally I would like gold support, and yes I would like a bit of analytics, but the highly interactive reports that I create, or the engaging "brochure apps" that clients love, or my kids education apps, etc dont need all the bells and whistle's that are included for big and small magazine publishers.

So I doubt I'm alone here in thinking there is a gap here for a "creative licence" a licence for the creative agencies that dont need or want to buy 10,000 downloads, that maybe want extra built in features that our friends at "HtmlStacker" are tying to bring to life (have a look at www.htmlstacker.com)

In theory Adobe have saved me a fortune, Creative Cloud is excellent, and now I dont need a pro licence, but I want to pay more :-) I want to be a "pro" I want to have a differentiator to anyone that has a Creative Cloud membership.

As we approach the 2 year anniversary of the official launch of the paid for licence, I salute Adobe and the team for the amazing work that you have put into the product. I look forward to many more years, and hope that most of the major ground work and functionality for publishers has been achieved, so that more attention can be focussed building in more stable "widgets" into DPS - being able to have html versions of the current flash animation would be a great start - the amount of times I'd like to have text swipe in, but dont just because or the time it takes to go out to Edge Animate etc, I can't tell you!

But HTMLStacker is where I'd like DPS to move to (although equally be happy to buy the functionality from them, if it gets stable)

So I hope lots of people take the time to read this, and more importantly comment, I like to think this is a very positive post, it's meant to be.

What better news to say, hey your product is great (most of the time :-)) you've saved me loads of money, but I want to pay you more, if there was a slightly different solution.

Any thoughts?

OAM issues again

Just to help people I'd like to make them aware that there are still 2 major issues with OAM'S in DPS. First the known bug that the OAM can not bundle an custom JS folder - and as I love to use OAM's this is a real pain, and secondly the retina size page in DPS can not render a retina size web view; the scaling just goes all over the place; so if you want to import edge animate you have to create at 1024x768

Was doing another test yesterday for iphone 4, which I keep forgetting is Retina!

So anyway, this has the same issue with ipad retina, any files taken into DPS that are created with the retina dimensions just dont work.

I think, no I'm sure this is a DPS issue, but just thought I'd remind everyone here again.

To clarify "what doesn't work" means that the scaling is all wrong.

js folder not included in OAM, or web folder when published

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I've check a few video tuts and don't appear to have my structure wrong. see attached.

But when I Publish the index.html for both web and OAM, the js folder and the fonts folder are not copied to the "web" folder in the "publish" folder.

Now that I know this it's not a problem for the web folder to import into DPS, as I can just create a copy and manually place the JS and Fonts folder into the web folder, but it seems to be a problem with the OAM, ie not JS script no interaction.

Anyway I hope you get what is happening, and I must be doing something wrong, so to sum up, the OAM file does not appear to be have my JS folder bundled into it.

Is my file structure wrong in the attached example?

any advice on web fonts..

I've encountered another project where my web fonts just stop working and revert to another random font.

I'm importing the project into DPS, and I'm getting the promlem with both the html file and the OAM.

I appreciate this is a very vague post, but are there any know issues, or workarounds, anyone else have issues with fonts defaulting to something else?

drag script fails after I animated the objects

I create a static page, with various objects, and made them draggable (with the help of resdesign)

I than decise to animate the obects coming into the screen - so initially they are off the stage, and then they animate in.

However once the brief animation has finished, and I try to drag the objects, they do all sorts of things, jump off the stage, or dissappear etc - horrible.

The draggable code is in composition ready, so is the code taking the position of the assest as they are at frame 0 (now off the stage) and not from their resting point at 1.5 seconds?

This is certainly a learning curve!

I know there is a load of excellent tutorials out there on EA, but I've not found anything that runs through the basics of writing code and where to place it, ie just the structure of setting up a variable like this; var Rectanglea1 = sym.$("Rectanglea1");

when to put stuff in compostion ready, and what the heck is yep nope :-) - I understand that I just "need" it to load the JS files, but why yep nope?? little bits like that would be very good. I for one would happily pay for a book or tutorial that gave the basics of coding and possibly more importantly, fully understanding where to place the code. Another example might be the pro's and cons of adding an action to buttons, versus putting the code into the main code panel. From a designers point of view it's easier to get your end around adding the code to a button, but if I have lots of buttons, then there are lots of places to change code, rather than the code all being in one nice neat place in the compostion ready? - Is that right?? examples of that stuuf would be good.

I loved flash, but never really got very good at coding; I just copied from others, and I really want to try and do better with EA, just need a little more help :-)

If anyone knows of a resource that expalins the above, I would really appreciate it.

P.S by the way I have now learned that sym.$ needs to be used in EA to "declare" the variable; (is that the correct expression, declare), but is sym.$ specific to EA? - As you can see the only coding I've ever done is early ActionScript and a bit of very basic html

Pretty sure it's not possible is it?

Had a big problem today with corrupt fonts that only occured on iPad1 (iOS5.1.1) Created a new folio based on .png format rather than PDF, and the font is fine.

However now the text is not so great on retina screens!

So just thinking rather than create a 2048x1536 and 1024x768, in this case it would be better to target the iOS for rendition

Any thoughts? Am I just a jibbering old fool? :-)

Font problem - ipad1

I have just released an App which has terrible font corruption on iPad1, the articles are PDF, but everything is perfect on iPad2+

Has anyone else had an issue like this?

scrolling text at an angle

OAM problems again

I've been creating an interactive animation for a DPS project today, and its been going fairly well, until just now. The OAM file has just corrupted. one of the images, has been "swapped" for a graphic that I had used at the start of the day, but not used on the stage for hours, it is a similar graphic but a completely different name, and another png that is in an animated symbol has mysteriously shrunk. This only happens in the OAM, if I use the HTML file the graphics are fine, although the performance isnt as good on the iPad.Can anyone suggest how I could perhaps "refresh" the edge animate file to "uncorrupt the OAM" - I've tried deleting the indesign page, creating a new one and placing the OAM in a fresh indesign page, but that didnt work either!

Any thoughts? OAM seem to be the real achilles heal of Edge Animate and DPS - sadly.

Update.

Even though I deleted the unused png file, (from the source folder) so it was no longer in the library, it STILL appears in the OAM, but not the HTML file - WHAT IS GOING ON :-(

If some one could look at my files that would be great, I'm quite sure it's the way I'm creating the project, so would love advice on how to avoid these issues as the OAM files do work better in DPS (why is that??)

What is the best way to attach a zip folder in here? I've got dropbox but not sure how to place a folder hat doesnt need to be shared!

Edge Commons - Parralax

I've been looking at the Edge Commons Parralax stuff (http://labs.edgedocks.com/#/#article_edgecommons )

Its very cool, but I don't really understand what the EdgeCommons.js is doing!

I'd like to do the kind of animation that the demo shows which seems a fairly straight forward timeline animation but on a large stage, so that as the user swipes up and down the animation progresses left to right.

what if I want the user to swipe left and right and my animation to go up and down (though I appreciate I just do that on the timeline)

Is the edgeCommons.js allowing the user to swipe to control the animation? in the adobe example there only seems to be the load edgeCommons.js in the compostionReady field, is that all thats required?

And then finally I tested out the demo my adding it to a DPS page and testing it on an iPad but the stage is huge at 1920x3200... Is there a tutorail to go with this? excuse me if I'm being dim or blind or both!!

OAM bug

when testing an OAM in indesign, I'm finding the often the animation wont't update, or the poster, and the only way to really refresh the problem is to delete the indesign file, then create a new one and re-import the OAM again.

This kind of relates to the ghost images too I think, where sometimes files that are edited outside of EA and update, dont actually update, and the only way to get the graphic to change is to amend the name of the graphic.

Sorry guys but this is a pain in the derriere :-(

Is there a bug report page, I appreciate I should post this there too!

Poster images being created automatically

In the last few test animations I've created, a poster image is being created without me wanting it! Have I inadvertantly checked something that creates a poster image for me? Coz I want to switch it off! It's a real pain as once the poster is created it's impossible to get a .OAM to start with a "blank/transparent" start with out actually creating a blank transparent .png file.

Or is this a glitch, any thoughts?

DPS causing indesign crashing

Gosh, this is taking me a long time! Can anyone help?

I've got my div container called "container" and trying to load it with the text at the url below.

This code is enetered in creationComplete, I saw this example below working with iFame code copied from a google map, that worked, so I thought I could replace the iFrame with the url where the copy is, but all that this code does is put the URL address in the container.

So clearly I'm missing a step!

Can't side load to iPad1

Just noticed, that since doing the update, I can'y side load on my iPad1 (iOS 5.1.1)

I've made sure it's properly connected, and ACV is open, but folio builder can't see it, can anyone confirm this, or maybe that they are OK with their iPad1?

the .OAM file is on my 3rd page, and it starts playing when the 1st page loads, I can see this if I quickly swipe to the 3rd page and I can see the animation finishing.

I guess this may be a DPS issue, but I thought I would ask her too.

I've just finished an App about Flags, the folio is split into 4 articles and each article has numerous pages, but when testing with the folio being set to PDF rendering, the performance of each page

is very poor, I mean 2 or 3 seconds for a page to get out of the PDF blur (and thats on iPad1-3), all my plags are .ai files. Anyway switching to png render cures the problem, and as the files are vector, there isn't too much of a problem viewing on the retina screen.

So just watch what your doing with PDF render, it's got it's pro's and con's for sure!!

Not sure what platform this BBC publication uses, but it's not DPS, maybe AppStudio. Anyway, I never seen such poor reviews for a magazine.

Go and take a look at the mag, and then think twice about complaining (As I do!!) about DPS.

Its good to do this to appreciate how good DPS actually is.

edit .OAM in indesign

I take it there is no way of editing the .OAM html code in indesign, ie through edit HTML.

I've tried a few things, but I'm pretty sure the HTML is not accesible when in Indesign.

Just for the record, I was hoping to edit a piec of text that is animated by changing the html code, rather than doing it in animate.

Hi Guys

Was just thinking it might me good to occasionally get information well in advance of changes to DPS releases. The new navigation is point in hand.

I've just done some updates for some folio's and if I'd known the navigation was going to change, then I could have told the clients and we could have held off so we could update the navigation instructions all at the same time.

ie now there isnt a top right button to bring up the thumbnails, I need to update my navigation instructions - (on all my apps!!)

P.S if this was announced in the webinar last year, and I missed it, then apologies. But generally future features that are announced on the webinars, are not always set in stone.

I also quite like the simplified navigation, and I'll get used to the library view :-)

I'm trying to insert a google map using the html insert, Everytime I do I get the white description box you can see here that crops off at the top and casts the shadow.

It wasn't there when I copied the html code. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of it?

Also by inserting the html, does this mean that the map is free to use in my App, and Apple is happy with it being there.

I think this is a daft question, but I have a large corporate client who does not yet allow html5 on their website, they are sticking with flash for animation for now.

However, I'm still keen to use Edge animate for a simple pop up html window with basic functions, is there a simple way to know what can be done with animate that is not HTML5?

I wonder whether I could gather opinion; I hope Adobe don't mind me asking, but with the monthly pro licence we get 250 folio downloads included. For me that will probably be too low, and could do with 500 per month, and happy to pay for the extra.

Does any one else think it would be good to have the flexibilty to have more than 250 downloads per month. I imagine if its a popular request then Adobe might offer it to us.

Did I read somewhere on here that .eps files caused problems with crashing, or am I just imagining it?

Am am using lots of .eps files some .ai files and a few PDF's lots to the graphs are being revealed by MSO's and the iPad1 is not liking it at the moment.

Any thoughts? Other than to save all the .eps/.ai files as .png

SD and HD single issue apps

Hi everyone

has anyone actually created separate single issue folios (but indentical content) for SD and HD devices?

I have an App which is onlt 20mb in total, but it is playing up on iPad1 as it has lots of MSO's set to vector, and thsi may be causing the problem. We cant go multi-issue on this one.

Just wondering if indeed Apple has rejected apps being submitted as SD and another for HD.

This question was raised a few times last year on the forums, but I've not seen any answers yet?

web view scaling - confirmed bug

Although it doesn't seem many people have experience this problem, Adobe have been able to replicate the issue I had with html content scaling unexpectably when the web view is created in a "retina" indesign file, ie creating a folio 1536x2048, or 640x960, the content in the web view scales up about 200%. Place the same web view, with the same content, in a std res folio, such as 768x1024, and the content in the web view is perfect. Strange but true!

swiping between articles

I've set a folio to release 23 and created a series of horizontal only articles, but the 2 finger swiping to jump to the start of each article seems incredibly hit and miss.

Is this just me, or has anyone else noticed this.

OAM files behaving badly

I reported an issue with OAM files bahaving very irratically on the first page of an article, Adobe has not responded yet, anyone else seen other OAM file issues?

For example if I place an OAM in a single page article it doesnt play, if I tack it on the the end of the previous article, and set it to horizontal scroll it plays OK.

and today another cracker; I created a small animation to play on (yes I know, 1st page of article) 1st article plays, next one doesnt, then the next one plays and so on.

So on every other article the OAM plays.

Neil, any thoughts??
