Object positioning bug in Captivate 8.0.1

When positioning an object using percentages for top, left, height and width, the numbers often get automatically multiplied by 10 or 100.

The result is that objects become huge, often far outside the screen.

This is the case in Responsive Projects - I didn't check the situation in other types of projects.

Obviously this is a bug, introduced with the latest patch (8.0.1).

Is it possible to request a patch for this patch?

Text Captions incorrectly positioned on tablets in published Responsive Project

Using a Responsive Project (CP 8.1), Text Captions come out nicely on Primary, Tablet and Mobile platforms in Preview Mode..

Once the project is published, Text Captions are displayed correctly on Primary and Mobile platforms, but on tablets many Text Captions are positioned incorrectly.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Is there a known solution?

Speech and closed captions of some slides do not appear after publishing Captivate project

Hello,

Does anyone have the same problem?

I work on a responsive project in Captivate 8. All slides have text-to-speech and closed captions. When I watch the project in Preview mode, it works fine.

Then I publish the project, and copy the publication files to an FTP-server.

When I run the program in a web browser, on a laptop, on a tablet and on a smartphone, I get mixed results.

On a laptop and on a smartphone the project runs fine, except that certain slides contain no audio and no closed captions - identical slides on both platforms. After these slides the project continues to run normally, as if nothing happened, until this happens again, a few slides later.

When I run the same project in a browser on a tablet, there is no audio and there are no closed captions at all - the project runs from one slide to the next without making a sound and without showing any closed captions.

This is an unworkable situation.

Does anyone encounter the same problems? Is there a known solution for this situation?

Struggling with shadows

It would have been nice, in Adobe Captivvate 8, if button shadows could be applied automatically for the entire project in the Object Style Manager, so that they have a consistent look. This is not the case, so we have to apply the shadow each time we use a button in the project.

But that sounds easier than it is! I have a preference for an inner shadow along the right and along the bottom of the buttons. After clicking this choice, Captivate almost allways decides to assign a different shadow. Convincing it to accept the shadow of my choice takes a long struggle.

Does anyone have an easy solution for this?

Here is a solution for Captivate swallowing the first syllable of spoken text

It happens occasionaly to me, using Captivate 8, that text which was generated by the text-to-speech feature is not fully audible when the slide is displayed (even in a preview!).

I found the following solution for it:

Go to the problematic slide
In the top menu, click Audio | Edit | Slide
Position the red Playhead cursor at the audio's start
Click the "Insert silence" icon (the right-most icon under the Edit menu-item)
A small pop-up window shows "insert 1 sec. at Playhead position". Click OK.
Click Save.

Now when you replay the slide, there is a good chance that the first syllable of the text is audible.

Using captions in Captivate 8

Hi,

I am writing a project in Captivate 8, using Responsive Design. While doing this, I prepare screens in three formats: Primary, Tablet and Mobile.

After building a caption on the Primary screen the caption text is automatically copied to the Tablet screen - but not to the Mobile screen.

Do other users have the same experience? Any idea what I could be doing wrong?

Where is Button Action in Captivate 8?

I am working on a responsive project in Captivate 8.

In the Properties panel of the slides you can select Style, Action and Options. When you selct Action, you find 'on Enter' and 'on Exit'.

On some of my slides there are buttons. Properties for Buttons are Properties, Timing and Position. None of these show Action.

The Properties section contains Style Name, Fill, Stroke, Character and Shadow and Reflection, but according to the manual, this section should also contain an Action section. It doesn't.

Action is not to be found under Timing and Position either.

Obviously I am missing something. Where can I set actions for a button in a responsive project?

Skin editor in Captivate 8

In the Playback Control section of the Skin Editor in Captivate 8, the Position and Layout opions seem to be permanently greyed out, so that you cannot change their settings.

The same goes for the Show Borders option in the Borders section of the Skin Editor.

Does anyone know how to activate them?

I suggest the following experiment.

Open the Text-to-Speech tab in a Slide Note, and let one of the voices say: "This is slide number one". Generate the audio and close the Text-to-Speech tab.
In the Slide Note put a check mark in the middle box, so that a Closed Caption is created with this text.
Open the Closed Captioning tab and verify that this text is present. Close the Closed Captioning tab.
Duplicate the slide by pressing Ctrl+d.
In the second slide, open the Text-to-Speech tab in a Slide Note, and let one of the voices say: "This is slide number two". Generate the audio and close the Text-to-Speech tab.
In the Slide Note of the second slide put a check mark in the middle box, so that a Closed Caption is created with this text.
Open the Closed Captioning tab in the second slide and verify that this text is present. Close the Closed Captioning tab.
Now go back to the first slide.
You will find out that in the first slide the voice still says: "This is slide number one", but in the Closed Captioning tab you will now find "This is slide number two".

Closed Captioning disappears and reappears at random

In my current project, the value 1 is assigned to cpCmndCC on entering the first slide, and, to be on the safe side, this also happens on entering the second slide through an Advanced Action. These are the only locations in the project where the value of cpCmndCC is modified.

Closed captioning has been working well during the few I weeks since I started working on the project.

Now, when I run Project from Captivate, or when I run the project in a web browser, captioning suddenly disappears, and unexpecteldy reappears - seemingly at random.

What could be causing this?

VTML tag location

In Captivate 7, a tag like <vtml_pause time="1000"/> works only for me when it is placed on the same line in Text-to-Speech as some text to be spoken - before or after this text.

It does not work if the text is placed on a separate line in the Text-to-Speech part.

The result is that I have to delete the tag manually in the Closed Captioning tab, otherwise the user can see it.

If it would work I could in Slide Notes just put a check mark in Text-to-Speech, not in Closed Captionning.

Is this how it is supposed to work? Any ideas how to solve this?

Parenthesis in an URL

When trying to enter an internet link that contains parenthesis into a text field of FormsCentral, you receive an error, and it will not accept the URL.

However, when entering such a link in your internet browser (at least in Chrome), this works fine.

Example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guilt_(emotion) .
