Illustrator (CS6) crashes when opening in Yosemite. Any fixes out there?

I've just jumped from Snow Leopard to Yosemite. I missed out Mavericks because I was too concerned about downtime while bugs got fixed and never got round to doing it. Stupidly I took the opposite approach this time and went straight for the jugular – downloading Yosemite as soon as I could.

Unfortunately Illustrator is not working now and I need a quick fix. As soon as it opens it crashes. It asked me to update Java so I did what I was told. Still nothing.

Please, any help is gratefully received...

Strange indent override

I'm setting a 330 page book in cs6. The text includes lots of reports, letters and other kinds of content and I've used right and left insets to highlight the difference between these and the narrative. However, I'm having problems with the first line of some pages, for some reason the insets are overridden.

Here's an example. http://www.owenjonesdesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Screen-Shot-2014-02-07-at-11.47. 50.png

The odd thing is that this can go away if I pull up the height of the text box from the top centre handle. If I then move it back down to the right height the problem is gone. BUT it might pop up somewhere else or come back later! It seems very buggy and not a normal problem.

If I make a pdf it shows up the problem still so it's obviously a problem with the formatting somewhere (although if I highlight the text and check the settings they are correct).

I seriously don't want to have to reset this book in a new document. Has anyone experienced something like this? Any suggestions?

Having difficulties using text threading

I'm laying out a book in InDesign CS6. I'm experienced in using the software and I've designed several books using the same method but for some reason there seems to be a bug.

I've set up my document and used facing pages, inserted identical text boxes on the master pages and linked them using the shift key to 'auto thread' the boxes. In my layout I've then selected the first master text box and pasted the book text all into it, assuming it will then flow and add pages/boxes as it goes along like usual.

But it hasn't. It's got a certain way through (like, 5-6 pages, the table of contents!) and stopped in the middle of a word. The rest of the text IS there somewhere but I can't get at it (if I select all and reduce the font size from 10pt to 7pt or so it adds a load more text in and adds the pages in properly. I don't understand why point size would affect the threading – really need to solve this one urgently and I don't mind looking a bit silly if it's something obvious – please help!!
