RoboHelp for Word installed from RoboHelp 10 won't work with Word 2010

I have a Help project created in RoboHelp for Word 8. I recently upgraded from Word 2007 to Word 2010 and discovered that RH8 for Word won't work with Word 2010. So I purchased RoboHelp 10 and have installed RoboHelp for Word from it. Alas, RH for Word STILL won't work with Word 2010. When I try to open my project, I get this message:

Before I bought RH10, I live-chatted with an Adobe sales person who assured me it was compatible with Word 2010.

BTW, I tried to roll back to Word 2007, but I was getting weird behavior running Word, so I have reinstalled Word 2010 and want to stay there.

Any ideas?

Best approach to creating a new project that uses topics from an existing project

I use RoboHelp HTML 8 to maintain a WebHelp project with about 650 topics. I need to create a new WebHelp project (at least I think I do) that will include a subset of the topics from the existing WebHelp project (I'm not sure how many, but I'll guess 50 - 100) as well as perhaps 40-50 new topics. I would like to maintain in one place the topics that the two projects have in common. That way, if I need to make a change to any of these topics, I only need to make it once. I also would like to use the same skins and other formatting files from the existing project. What is the best approach to doing this? Thanks for your help!

Get "Printer Unavailable" error in FireFox, then topic prints

I've created a WebHelp Help system using RoboHelp 8.0 HTML. When I open a Help topic in FireFox 13 and click Print to print the topic, I get a "Printer Unavailable." error message. When I click OK to the message, the topic prints anyway. When I open a Help topic in IE and go through the same sequence, I don't see the "Printer Unavailable" message before the topic prints.

I know this may be a FireFox configuration issue rather than a RoboHelp HTML issue, but perhaps someone else out there has run into this behavior in FireFox and found a way to stop the "Printer Unavailable." error message from appearing.

Any way to resize Microsoft's HTML Help viewer for viewing HTML Help (.chm)

I am using RoboHelp for Word 8 and am switching from compiling in WinHelp format (.hlp) to HTML Help format (.chm). It all goes remarkably smoothly, overall, but the pane in the HTML Help Viewer where topics are displayed is quite narrow. I can expand it temporarily by dragging the sides outward with my mouse, but the next time I open Help the Viewer pane reverts to its previous narrow dimensions. Is there a way, either within RoboHelp or in Windows 7, to configure the size with which the HTML Help Viewer opens? In particular, is there a way to configure the width of the pane in which topics open?

Thank you for any light you can shed on my question.

Files missing in Project Manager pod

Yesterday, I installed RH8 HTML on my new Win 7 computer. I then copied over from my old Win XP machine all my files related to a specific help project. When I use Windows Explorer to review a list of all the .htm files I've copied over, they all are there. However, when I open the project in RH8 on my new computer and view a list of the .htm files that are in a particular folder in the Project Manager pod, some of the .htm files are missing. Curiously, if I open the TOC for the project and click a topic that references one of the "missing" files, RH8 opens the file and I can edit it in the usual way. That indicates to me that the file really is where it is supposed to be and RH8 can find it. Nonetheless, the filename is missing from the Project Manager pod. What's more, when I want to insert a hyperlink, the filename is missing from the list of .htm files to which I can link. This is a problem, obviously.

I should note that RH on my old computer is version 8.0.1.204 and RH on my new computer is 8.0.0.203. Hard to believe that would be the issue, but thought I should mention it. Also, the files that are missing have similar names to files that are not. For example, reportCheckDataMailmerge is missing but reportCheckDataMailmergeSee is not.

I would be grateful for any suggested fixes.

Can I set print margins when a Help topic is printed?

I have created a topic in RH8 for Word that contains a table that users of our software might want to print out as a reference. Currently, if I open this topic from within the compiled Help system and print it, the last couple lines of the table print out on a second page. The top and bottom margins of the printed pages are fairly generous. I would like to revised these margins so that the table fits on a single page when printed.

Is there a way to specify the margins that will be imposed when a Help topic is printed from within compiled Help? I've found nothing in Project Settings or Window Properties for setting Print margins and revising page margins in the source Word doc. appears to have no effect. While I could make the table shorter by reducing the size of the font I'm using, I'd like to avoid that solution if possible.

How to add jump to location within same topic?

We are migrating a client-server application to being a SaaS application. In the process, we need to consolidate all of our 650+ context-sensitive topics into a much smaller number of what we're calling "page topics". Each page topic will document all of the data entry fields, drop-down menus, checkboxes, and radio buttons available in a single data entry window of the SaaS application. Since some of these windows contain dozens of data entry fields, etc., their page topics will be long. We'd like to simplify the user's task of finding a specific data entry item by including a list of links at the top of each page topic that jump to all of the respective data entry items covered in the topic.

While I've created countless jumps between topics, I haven't been able to find a way to create jumps within a topic. I currently use RH X5 on a Windows XP machine, but I am considering upgrading to RH 8. Also, while the Help system in question is currently compiled as Microsoft HTML Help (.chm), I plan to move to WebHelp format for our SaaS application. Is there a way to create intra-topic jumps in RH X5? How about RH 8?

Subkeywords not indented in .chm index

I have a longstanding help file that I have compiled as Win4 Help (.hlp) countless times. The Index formats nicely with keywords on the left margin and subkeywords indented beneath their respective keywords. When I compile this same help as Microsoft HTML Help (.chm), the keywords in the Index format as expected, but the subkeywords do not indent beneath their respective keywords. Instead, the keyword plus a colon appears before each subkeyword.

For example,

Reports
Detail
Summary

appears as

Reports
Reports: Detail
Reports: Summary

Yuck!

I hope someone out there can lead me to a solution. I'm using RoboHelp x5.0.

Topics missing when I compile for HTML Help or WebHelp

I write and maintain two Help systems using RoboHelp. One compiles fine for WinHelp 4, HTML Help, or WebHelp. When I compile the other system, however, I get all topics only when I compile for WinHelp 4. If I compile for HTML Help or WebHelp, most topics are missing. The only topics that appear are glossary topics and links to my company's web site. The one distinction I can make between the two systems in terms of features, not content, is that the one with problems compiling uses a "See Also" button in all the topics that aren't appearing (the glossary topics and web links don't include a "See Also" button). The system without any troubles compiling doesn't use a "See Also" button at all.

I will try removing some "See Also" buttons from a few topics to see if that makes a difference. Meanwhile, I will be eternally grateful for any other suggestions on how to resolve this issue!

RoboDemo (Captivate) file links don't work in HTML Help

I have about 20 Flash movies (one .swf and one .html file each) that I created using Captivate (formerly "RoboDemo"). They are stored in a subfolder named "Demos" below the application folder where my compiled Help file is stored. Each movie is referenced in a Help topic with a statement like the following:

{ewl RoboEx32.dll, WinHelp2000, HREF="demos\dc_gaprop.htm" ALTERNATE="Self_Running_Demo_Links”}

When I compile for WinHelp 4, the Flash movies run fine when I open the topics that reference them as above. When I compile for HTML Help, however, nothing happens when I open the topics that reference them. All plain text topics and web page links appear to work fine in the HTML Help version. I am running Help on my local drive. I have a Windows XP machine. I am using RoboHelp 5.0 (a little out of date, I know, could that be the issue???)

Topics missing when compile HTML Help

I have written and maintain Help systems for two products in RoboHelp 5.0. Each has compiled fine in WinHelp 4 format for years. When I compile either of them in HTML Help format (single .chm file), then double-click the resulting .chm file to open it, the Contents and Index appear to be populated properly, but I cannot open a topic when I double-click one in the Contents or Index. The topic window remains blank. I would think I should be able to open the .chm file independent of any application and open all topics contained within it, just as I can with a .hlp file.

Should I be able to have access to all of my topics (about 2,000 indexed and 650 context-sensitive) just by double-clicking the .chm file? Are there specific project settings I need to set a specific way to get HTML Help to include all topics? Anything else I might be overlooking?
