Why does InDesign ask to save a new Bookfile each time I save?

Whenever I choose Save Book from the Bookfile panel menu a dialog opens and prompts me to save a new copy. I expect it to simply save the Bookfile quietly, just like any other document.

This has been happening with versions as far back as I can remember, and I'm currently on the latest version of InDesign CC.

It's not a big problem, but a bit of a nuisance each time I want to save.

Updated apps break links with dock icons (Mac OS)

When apps are updated via the CC desktop app, they sometimes (not always) come down with a new name which causes the link in the dock to break.

This would be a nuisance with one or two apps, but when a CC user has (like I do) a dozen icons in their dock it means that every major update requires several broken dock icons to be replaced. And if (like me) the user has more than one login on their machine (for separate personal and business workspaces) then the nuisance is doubled.

For example, I have just downloaded "Adobe Edge Animate CC 2014.1", which has removed the earlier version leaving an orphaned dock icon ("Adobe Edge Animate CC 2014"), for the sake of adding ".1" to the file name.

As a general principle, version numbers do not belong in an application name; there is a perfectly good field in the file info window for version number which is where practically every other vendor puts theirs.

This comes on top of the muddle of versions which has meant there are three "current" versions of some apps, for instance Photoshop (CS6, CC and CC 2014).

The other problem with your system is that in a few short months "CC 2014" apps will be outdated, if not in practise, certainly in name.

Some creative brains need to be exercised on this, don’t leave it to the nerds.

Creative Cloud Desktop Behance tab log-in problem.

Creative Cloud Desktop has been working more or less fine since it was installed, until updated to 2.0.0.183 about half an hour ago.

Going to the Behance tab, I am now prompted to link my Behance Account, but my account was already linked, and the Home tab shows details from my Behance activity, so something thinks I'm logged in.

On attempted to relink my account, I am prompted to enter my "Behance Email" and "Behance password", which I presume are my normal Adobe log-in details. But the result is an alert saying, "There was a problem with your request, please try again later".

Below this is a notice saying "No projects match your filtering criteria".

I presume this is a bug of some sort. The web still works, of course, so not a huge problem.

Using shift key to constrain proportions while scaling

I notice that using the shift key doesn’t currently constrain proportions when scaling objects. This is pretty standard behaviour in graphics apps and it would be good to have this included in Muse. There seems to be nowhere to manually enter a scale factor either, which would be useful.

Text frames in form retain ghost of italic format after text changed to roman

This is quite repeatable here with the current version.

I made a new document and added a basic contact form widget. The I selected one text input field and changed the font to a web font and changed the text style to roman rather than italic. Now when previewing in browser there is an error for each frame in the form, e.g.:

“Text frame on page 'Home' (with text 'Enter name') uses an unsupported variation 'Italic' of web font named 'Nunito Regular'. 'Italic' will be simulated.”

The next time the document is previewed in browser there will be no error, but make a trivial change such as moving the form slightly, and the same error will return next time the document is previewed.

Why does Lightroom change the file creation date? (Mac OS)

I'm finding that Lightroom changes the file creation date when embedding metadata. I notice that this behaviour differs from Bridge, which manages to write metadata changes to the file without affecting the creation date, only touching the modified date.

I've read in other threads that it doesn't matter anyway because moving files between disks will write a new file and therefore a new creation date, but while this may be true in some systems (I don’t know) this is certainly not the case with Mac OS. For example, I have files going back to at least 1998 which have been moved from disk to disk to disk yet still retain their original creation date. Which is as it should be. For many of my older images there seems to be no recognisable embedded capture date anyway, so the file creation date is the only time stamp.

It seems perfectly logical that the modified date of a file should be updated to reflect that the file has been modified (e.g. though adding metadata), but it seems equally logical that the file creation date should be retained as the original date that file was created. Changing them both to the same date seems to be a needless loss of information.

Some might argue that the process of adding metadata to a file creates a new file, therefore the creation date needs to be updated to reflect that. But I would say that the creation date should be what a normal user would understand as the creation date. We don't expect the creation date to be changed simply because a file is rewritten to disk (for instance when defragging), however technically accurate it might be to say that it is a newly created file. And the difference in behaviour between Bridge and Lightroom shows that there is some confusion about this.

CC has been running fine, but suddenly the CC app is showing Download Error. Clicking the button to contact customer support just brings up the FAQ, which is next to useless. Plus there's a button to Download Creative Cloud, which is confusingly recursive. On the other hand, the apps I've tried seem to be working okay.

Meanwhile, I wonder if there will be some sort of benefit offered to those of us paying to be beta-testers?

Adobe took a payment from my account on 24 November, then again today (4 December) and the email included a note to say the payment would renew on 26 December. WTF?

I have a support case open on this but I wanted to warn people to check their payments. Something seems very wrong.

Behance links result in "page not found"

In the Behance tab of the Creative Cloud app there are two buttons, "Add work" and "View profile".

Whenever these are clicked a new browser opens with the message:

Unsaved state persists after Save as…

Anyone else seeing this?

Open a .jpg or .png, edit it, then save as a .psd file (Save as…). Make no changes to the open file, which will show as being the new .psd, then close it and an alert will appear asking, “Save changes to the Adobe Photoshop document “document.psd” before closing?”

This gives the confusing impression that there are unsaved changes, and the red close button in the window bar also shows a black dot indicating unsaved changes when there are none.

How can I warp an arch into a rectangle?

I have an arch-shaped illustration and want to morph/warp/distort/remap it to a rectangle.

The effect I'm after is the exact opposite of Envelope Distort > Arc.

I’d be grateful for suggestions, this has me stumped!

Flickr set description deleted when publishing

When publishing to an existing set on Flickr the entire set description is delted. Very frustrating. I hope Lightroom 5 will have a greatly improved publishing system, the present one is a disaster.

Anyway, I’d appreciate any suggestions regarding how to prevent this happening.

Constraining to a fixed width regardless of height?

Can Lightroom constrain images to a fixed pixel width regardless of height and orientation?

None of the options in the image sizing dialog seem to be suitable; for instance constraining the "long edge" would work for horizontal images but not for vertical ones.
